Screensaver comes on, even when set to 'Never'

On my TiBook 550MHz, 512MB RAM, running 10.4.11, I have this issue recently: screensaver is set to 'Never', but it does come on after a few minutes of inactivity. Hot Corners are disabled, so it's not that. Screensaver.plist file deleted, permissions repaired, safe-booted, then back to normal boot, problem persists.
Any ideas, people? Thanks.

Ah ,yes, sorry about my confusing the sleep thing, but those are the 2 pref files that hold ScreenSaver settings info, that may or may not be the problem, it can also be held in PRAM, or NVRAM.
Does it boot into Open Firmware with CMDOption+of ?

Have you done a PRAM reset...

  • Cookies appearing even when set to "Never"

    Hi,
Ever since the new Safari update, I constantly get cookies from Google, even though I have NEVER set in preferences under "accept cookies". This happens many times during the day, and I am constantly deleting it, but soon after it's there again.
Can someone tell me how to stop this from happening?
    Thanks
    Stu

I constantly get cookies from Google, even though I have NEVER set in preferences under "accept cookies".
But are you using a Google service, such as Google Desktop or Google Reader, etc. Those can set cookies, too. It doesn't have to be cookies from browsing.
You don't need to constantly delete cookies. You can do that at the end of a browsing session; anything more frequent is wasting your time.

  • Maverick's Screensaver Comes on Even if Video is Playing... Why / How to Stop?

    Hi,
Maverick's screensaver comes on even if video is playing...
Why is that, and how can we stop this behaviour?
We tried EyeTV, VLC, UMPlayer, it is the same for all three... I guess the problem is with the screensaver?
But the screensaver is Maverick's default (clean Mavericks installation on a new iMac)... I don't think this is supposed behaviour.
    Thank you for any idea!

    *bump*
Still not working, at the moment I use energy safe set to 3 hours as a work around... However, a working screensaver would be better!

  • IPod continuously flashes "Do not Disconnect" even when set to automatic.

iPod continuously flashes "Do not Disconnect" even though iTunes says "Update is Complete" and even when set to automatic update. It mounts both in iTunes and on the Desktop.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
I have alredy tried rebooting both the iPod and computer.
    Thanks.

    Patrick,
    Welcome to the discussions.
Sounds like you've got Disk Use enabled. Try unchecking the Box "Enable Disk Use" under iTunes>Preferences>iPod Tab.

  • Screensaver Turns ON even when I have it set to OFF!

Okay, so I have had my screensaver set to Never for months now. Last month, I got a new hard drive and had to reset everything back to the way it used to be. So, I once again set the screensaver to NEVER turn on. Unfortunately, it doesn't NOT turn on... instead... it turns on every time I leave my laptop idle for 5 minutes!
How do I get this to stop?!

Move the com.apple.screensaver.plist and any other com.apple.screensaver.XXXXX.plist files in your /Library/Preferences/ folder and its ByHost subfolder to the Desktop, restart, and reset your ScreenSaver prefs.

  • I still get cookies even when I select "never" under preferences, why?

Using Safari, when I select "never" under preferences, I still recieve many cookies. I understand that if I am signed in to yahoo for example, the cookie will be replaced. However, if I am not signed in, but just connected to the net, I still get these cookies.
If anybody can give me a little insight, that would be just great
    Thanks

Many sites have come up with all sorts of ways around the cookie blocks in web browsers, tricks such as Flash cookies, "evercookies" and others. Those can be saved on your system even if you have a browser set to supposedly to block cookies. As with spam and junkmail-filter developers, it's sort of a war between the web sites and the people developing cookie blocks/filters. And note that you don't need to be signed into a site to get a cookie; all you need do is load any web page from the site and it may attempt to put one or more cookies on your browser.
You may want to look into a more sophisticated cookie cleaner from a third-party developer. I use Cookies from SweetP Productions and it seems to clean out unwanted cookies quite well, but there are other similar products available.

  • Mac book pro screensaver comes on even with option off, how do I stop it

I have the screensaver set to never come on, batter or plugged in, but it still comes on.  Is there a way to make sure it doesn't?

I've already gone through the steps are disabling the screensaver, for both battery power and ac power and still the screensaver comes on.
Still need help; trying to transfer files to dropbox and the screensaver keeps stopping the sync.  Thanks!

  • Screen Saver in 10.6.1 Activates When Set To Never Activate

    Anyone else having this issue?
I have the screen saver set to never activate in the System Preferences, having opted to use a hot corner instead, and still, after fifteen minutes, if I haven't moved the mouse cursor or hit a key, lo and behold, the screen saver comes on! It's the most annoying thing, especially if I'm compiling code which takes longer than that, or trying to watch a movie or Hulu or some such.
Add this to the other issue I'm having, whereby Mail in Snow Leopard often doesn't want to send outgoing email through my server at work. These seem like things which shouldn't be occurring in a commercial operating system, especially now that it's at a .1 release, meaning there's been time to recognize and fix bugs, and I know the Mail bug is a big one lots of people have complained about.

    delete the file homedirectory/library/preferences/byhost/com.apple.screensaver....
and log out/in. set your screensaver preferences again and see if they stick.

  • Hdmi cable sound wont come out even when the settings say that the sound is coming from tv

    Macbook pro, new last August.
The weird part about this is that it worked about an hour before this happened and then I unplugged it and it stopped. The HDMI cable is plugged into the side of the laptop and the screen duplicator works fine but the sound doesn't come out. When I go to my settings, the sound is selected for the tv but nothing is coming out... the volume is up on the tv.

i have managed to fix this issue in a way that im not even sure how..

  • Intel mac mini falling asleep when set to never...

Do you have the mini connected via ethernet?

  • TS1574 I have a MacBook in which the in speaker mutes automatically for few seconds and the sound comes back. even when I am not playing any kind of video or audio the speaker icon on the on the dock shows the speaker muting and coming back. how can I res

the speaker of my macbook mutes all at a sudden for few seconds automatically and comes back even the speaker icon which is on top right side of the computer also shows mute at this point. and when the volume of the speaker is pressed at this moment it shows locked symbol of the speaker. Kindly help how to resolve this. I am not sure but recently I did install leopard to upgrade my computer does this effect the problem with my speaker.

This is all most unfortunate...from what I read in your post you have covered everything that can be done at your end....something is damaged on the Logic Board it sounds like...as to how much it would cost only the people that end repairing will know after it is diagnosed....take it in...tell them what you have found and tried so far...maybe that will help narrow down the problem...
    Good Luck....

  • Is it a known but that the outgoing SMTP user ID is always set to the same as the incoming even when set differently?

I'm trying to figure out where to report this: I keep noticing that when I setup a new account and I set the incoming and outgoing user names differently, the outgoing one never is honoured; it always sets it the same as the incoming one and I have to manually go into the outgoing settings to change it. Just wondered if this was known, thought it might be worth reporting.

please file a bug in [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ Bugzilla].
I can not see this one listed, but it looks to me like the behavior may well have been introduced with [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=883670 Bug 8396652]

  • Photoshop CS5 - Leading is suddenly massive, even when set to auto

Using Photoshop CS5 on HP laptop with Windows 7. I've never had an issue with this before, but today when I opened up PS, this happened:
No matter what I set the leading to, there's always this humongous gap when I hit enter. Shift + enter makes no difference. Changing the font size also makes no difference.

Look in the Paragraph panel, and see if there's a non-zero value in Space Before or Space After.
