Screensaver for 20th Anniversary Mac

Hello, I'm looking for a screensaver for my old and bautyful 20th Anniversary Mac. Somebody knows where to find a screesaver (aquarium style...) and if it works with OS 7..6.1 ? Thanks

rmpostal,
After Dark was the most widely used screen saver.  A google search revealed several options.  Email if you need a disk copy.
Here is an OS-X version:

I did not spend a lot of time searching for the older downloads because it would be faster to walk upstairs and copy it off the TAM.

Hi to all you TAM-aficionados on this planet!
I'm looking for a spare side expansion panel for the TAM (cf. user manual chapter one page 2). This one serves to hold expansion PCI cards withe the deeper rear panel. Please check your spare parts and let me know asap.

  • Airport Express to play music through 20th Anniversary Mac?

I'd like to be able to play music through the Bose sound system in my G3-upgraded 20th Anniversary Mac.  I've used a very early version of iTunes but it annoyingly pauses fairly frequently while playing for some reason.  Since I have an early Airport Express and have an Ethernet adaptor in the TAM I wondered if it's possible to connect the TAM via cable to the Airport Express and stream music from an iMac connected wirelessly to the Airport.  It seems a shame not to utilize the Bose speaker system for music.  Thanks for any ideas and suggestions.

As far as I know this isn't possible. I might try some stuff using my TAM (although results may very, mine isn't a production model) to see about figuring something out. If the computers sit close enough together you might be able to run a 3.5mm(1/8") headphone cable between the iMac's audio out and the TAM's line in, that or make use of the FM tuner and listen to some awesome FM stations.
Now that I think of that you can invest in something like the link I'll add at the bottom of this, connect it to the speaker port of the iMac then use the tuner on the TAM to tune into the frequency of it. This would also allow the connecting of something such as an iPod.

  • 20th anniversary mac service parts

I'm curious if anyone has ideas on how I might find a CD-ROM to replace the CD-ROM in a 20th Anniversary Mac.
I have a TAM a friend used, and I'm trying to ready it for sale.  If you put in a CD, you hear the CD clicking, but the CD doesn't spin.  I've tried manually moving the spindle (as some older CD-Drives of that nature would sometimes have lubrication problems), but no luck.
I've searched the web all over and cannot find if the service parts may even exist.  The drive is unique in that it opens to reveal the disc in place (rather than having a slot, a caddy, or a door that holds the disc). So even though that machine has a lot in common with the Powerbook 3400, the CD-ROM drive is different.
    Ideas?

I don't know if you still need help on fixing your TAM CD device. I had the same problem.
As you know, CD devices for the TAM are rarely available on eBay and cost a fortune (last auction I saw maybe went for 200 bucks or more). The Apple 600i SCSI CD-ROM (tray-loading) internally is very similar to the design of the TAM CD.. They regularly pop up on eBay for $10 to $20. Model CR-504-C appears to be the closest match.
I bought one for $10, opened it up and discarded the casing. The circuit board is identical except for a couple wires controlling opening/closing the loading tray, and an IC chip. The motor mechanism is an identical match. I swapped the motor assemblies (carriage and all) after transferring over the rubber grommets for the TAM. Put my TAM back together, and the CD works flawlessly!
If your problem is not with the motor carriage, then you can try using the circuit board after swapping the IC chip. If it's a problem with the chip, this solution may not work. Seems to me, there is a much higher possiblity of the motor assembly going bad than with the chip.
There is currently an auction on eBay for several of these devices for $15 with free shipping. Can't hurt, only $15. Search eBay for AppleCD 600i CR-504-C. - Fred

  • 20th Anniversary Mac and Networking

I have a 20th Anniversary Mac running OS 7.6.1. Our internal network is based on Windows 2003 servers. How can I get the 20th Mac on the internet? I have a NIC card installed. I have tried letting it use DHCP, manually setting the IP, etc., but nothing seems to work.
    Any ideas?

  • 20th Anniversary Mac and iTunes

I read somewhere that it might be possible to use the TAM Bose sound system with streamed iTunes music. I have a 350 MHz TAM with a 10/100 ethernet card. Is it possible to stream from my G5 iMac to the TAM with Airport Express and Airtunes? I have iTunes V.2 on the TAM but I'm sure no one was thinking of this capability in those days. The Bose sound system is so good that I'd really like to utilize it if possible. Any help or pointers would be much appreciated to keep this computer going.

Well, in this case, you have two options. With the iMac G5, the AirPort Express, and the TAM, you can use the AirPort Express for streaming. You can either have the AirPort Express hooked up to the Bose Speakers alone, and you could control the songs from the iMac, or you could hook up the Bose system to the AirPort Express, and hook up the TAM to the AirPort Express with ethernet. Now you could turn on sharing in both iTunes on both computers, (if iTunes 2.x supports sharing) and control the shared songs from ur iMac to be played through the bose speakers.

  • After Effects 20th Anniversary celebration!

I wanted to let you all know that we are now celebrating After Effects 20th Anniversary! Over the next month, you'll see some cool events, blogs, articles, videos, and more. Check out the AE & Me blog here: http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/category/ae-me
How did After Effects affect your career?

Tim Wilson at the Creative COW got with me in mid-December on this very same topic.   The nice folks at The COW now have my story and selected screen grabs; I expect my tale to grace its pages in a short time.
Long story short: in the mid to late '90's, After Effects was the gateway to looking really good if you were in broadcast TV.
With a small investment of money, a bigger investment in learning & experimentation and possibly an even bigger investment in render times, work done by Little Guys like us at a TV station in market 80-something in Iowa could look just as good as work coming out of the network in New York or LA.
The competitors in our market wondered how we did it, and we had ABSOLUTELY no intention of telling them.  When pressed, we'd mention anything BUT After Effects.  Were you aware that 90's-era NLE's, once you got to know them well, could work miracles?  Didn't think so.
So, I guess you can blame me for a half-dozen or more copies of AE versions 3, 4 and 5 not being sold in Eastern Iowa.  Feel free to take it out of my Adobe paycheck... ha!

  • 20th Anniversary Macintosh (TAM) Static/Buzzing Sound

    Hello There,
I have a 20th Anniversary Macintosh which is buzzing.
I know there are other posts about this but i just wanted to confirm the best solution.
The TAM switches on but takes about a minute for the light to come on and the screen to light up, at which point the buzzing starts but only sometimes.
If, once the buzzing has started, you press the TAM in the correct spot (Not on the subwoofer) the buzzing will stop for a short time, however this spot constantly moves . How should i fix this? Is it still a problem with the subwoofer joints?
The computer has OS 8.5 and has a Sonnet Crescendo Upgrade (If you need the details i will post them).
All Drivers are installed for this Upgrade.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Regards Toby Herbert.

Update: I have tried cleaning the connectors in the subwoofer but to no joy . What should i do now?

I am a new mac user and I switch to mac due to the graphics that it brings. I do website in pc and I heard iweb is the best.NOW i heard that iweb will be discontinue. so what is the best application there for website using MAC OSX lion?

It is now confirmed  that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.
This might be of some interest to you at this time: Life After MobileMe.

The Mac uses a highly-parameterized universal Driver for every display. The parameters are set at certain times when a query is sent to your display. The display MUST answer with its name and capabilities, or the screen stays dark. A TV set that is off or "not paying attention" because it is set to a different port when the query occurs will rarely answer, and so will often remain dark.
You can use tools in the System Report to see whether your display has been detected at all. If it has, the report will look something like this, but its name will appear:
The times when the query is sent are:
    • at Startup
    • at wake from sleep
    • when the Mac-end of the cable is inserted
    • when using the Option ( Detect Displays ) button in displays preferences

Your MacBook Air is an Intel-based system. To download the current version (11.2.202.228),  go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and download it from there.
If there is still a Flash issue, you can try the Google Chrome browser, which has the current Flash built into it, to see if it works any differently with the videos. It's available from https://www.google.com/chrome

  • Can we have a BE-ALL, END-ALL thread for your BEST Mac solutions for video?

Sorry if this already exists. But I am trying to find the sweet spot for encoding my videos (existing files, like AVI, not from DVD - I get Handbrake).
There are SO many programs and SO many options. But the discussions of these seem to be far-flung and unorganized.
    So.
If you have spent hours experimenting, what have you found? I'm looking for the best Mac-based programs, and the best settings in those programs.
    - I want videos that will look good on TV, but not have a crazy file size.
    - I want it to be relatively fast (QuickTIme Pro is horribly slow).
    - I want it to have a queue.
    - I REALLY want it to be free of audio/video sync problems.
    I want, I want, I want.
So far I have tried iSquint, Podner, QT Pro, FFMPEG, MPEG Streamclip...
All of them work, but they all have problems to some degree. However, one of them may be your favorite.
Have you found ONE program and ONE set of settings that you use all the time now? Share!

    Justin,
I hate to stomp on your post, but unfortunately what you're asking here is against the Terms of Use for these discussions boards. Polls, petitions, surveys, etc... are not allowed.
If you have a specific question or problem regarding your iPod , you can feel free to ask it and someone here will try to help.
Otherwise, a forum such as those on iLounge might be a better place to post non-technical topics.
