Screensaver from slideshow Pictures folder has bad resolution

Since Leopard, I have noticed that almost every other picture in the screensaver slideshow (from the "pictures Folder") has a very low resolution resulting in blocky slides.

Had chosen wrong file for pictures.

  • Pictures folder has turned into a package!

I'm hoping someone may be able to help with a strange problem. My Pictures folder has transformed itself into a 'package' and wants an application to open it, but there isn't an option to select the finder! I can open it by right clicking and everything is there, but it isn't accessible from 'Image Capture' or for iphoto, which appears to have started a new library for itself, perhaps mistaking the 'picture' package for the library as there are files in there which are usually in the iphoto package. Is there any way to tell the folder not to be a package any more??? It seems to have happened after I restarted the computer (which I did because there were some photo files in the trash which I couldn't empty, and restarting sorted that!!)

Thank you. I tried deleting the plist as you suggested but no change unfortunately. I also tried repairing permissions, and there are some items it says cannot be repaired but no idea what they are?

  • I am new to Mac and am having trouble with uploading images from my pictures folder to Facebook and other share sites- some of my images are accessible while others are seemingly locked....

I am new to Mac and am having trouble up loafing images from my pictures folder to photography sites and Facebook. Some of the saved images are accessible, while others are not, ( they are light colored and cannot be uploaded) I am not saving them any differently.

    Hi Robodisko,
    Thanks for your prompt reply......
I often proof my work in preview then edit images in photoshop and rename from there.  The dsc images are renamed to correlate the name of the class etc.  i.e. dcs_001 is saved as the file name required 7A.jpeg etc.
The file names are required to correlate what is what and so on..........

  • Iphoto 9.5.1 will not import videos with .mpg extension from my pictures folder and keep getting a OSStatus error-54. Is there a way I can import such videos to the iphone library?

iphoto 9.5.1 will not import videos with .mpg extension from my pictures folder and keep getting a OSStatus error-54. Is there a way I can import such videos to the iphone library? Pls help.

This is what that error means:
    -54
    permErr
Software lock on file; Not a subscriber [permissions error on file open]
Download and launch  BatChmod.  Put the videos into a subfolder and drag that folder containing the video files into the Batchmod window.  Make sure you are the owner and have R,W, X access as well as the group.  Everyone will have R only.
Check the Change ownership and privileges, Unlock and Apply to enclosed boxes and then click on the Apply button.  When done try importing the files again.

I have been opening up my photos from My Pictures folder and Elements 12 opens up but the photo doesn't appear in the image screen.  Over the weekend it was working fine.  I tried the other photo software I have and they open up in those but not in the elements 12.

Which operating system are you running on?
How are you trying to open the photos?
    - from windows explorer? - double licking or right clicking and selecting Open with?
    - by loading the editor and go to File -> Open?
Looking back at your other threads you seem to have had this problem before - what keeps changing?

  • Duplicate photos from root Picture folder

As a result of upgrading versions of LR from 1.0 to now, and not knowing how to do that properly, I've got nested Lightroom and Pictures sub folders in my root Pictures on my Mac system.  Is there a way to illiminate duplicate photos, without breaking the LR catalog?  There are no duplicates in my catalog.

I have LR pointing, on my iMac, to the "Pictures" folder.  Under that, I have sub folders called "Lightroom->Pictures", etc.  I have many more pictures and folders under root->Pictures, than I have in my LR catalog.  I think upgrading since 1.0 has duplicated on import and created new folders.  I want to clean this up now and delete duplicate raw images on disk.  I can't do it manually.  Too onerous. Hope that makes this simple situation clearer.
Update: Turns out i only have 2k extra images than what appears in the catalog, so maybe not as bad as I thought.  Would still like to reorganize the folders so that they make more sense, like illiminating the lightroom->pictures sub-folders.
Update: Found the easiest way to reorganize is to global highlight photos in a sub folder and drag to the higher level folder.  LR does all the work and updates the catalog.  Solved.

  • My iphoto library folder with files of my pictures is missing from the pictures folder, only the application icon remains.  I have read through similar discussions but have not managed to fix the problem with the recommended solutions.  Can anyone help?

I have a Macbook Pro with iphoto '08 running on Mac OS X version 10.5.8.  I used to be able to go to my pictures folder on my HD and access my pictures via that iphoto library folder.  There used to be a small arrow next to the iphoto icon with all the albums then listed within the folder (to the right).  That arrow is now gone and all I have is the iphoto application icon which just reopens iphoto when I click on it, but I want to be able to access the data files.  Somehow I do have files btwn 2008 and 2009 but it hasn't created these since then...Could someone please help me to restore this ability?  I have read other similar posts but they seem to be related to lost data all together and I do luckily have all my pictures in iphoto still. I just can't access them in the pictures folder which means I can't access them on my external hard drive.  I am now out of start up disc space somehow so I figured I had to delete some albums (I have 12,090 pictures) and do have them backed up but want to make sure I can go back for them when I need them.  I did export all the pictures to a folder on the hard drive but it is all 12,090 in one long list with only numbers as names and not in any order, this will be a nightmare to access later!  Please help!  Thank you!

You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto.
That indicates that that is your library.  Put it in your Pictures folder if it already isn't there and make sure it's named "iPhoto Library".  It should look like this:
    Now launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select that library to open.  If you get that same message close iPhoto and try the following;
Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Does running iPhoto screensaver from an external HD decrease pic resolution?

Ok..so, I've managed to move all my iPhoto library from the main Mac Mini HD to an external HD.  I also managed to accomplish what I haven't before in that I was able to run the screensaver from the external HD with no flow problems...before, the pics would stop after a few minutes and the screensaver would restart.
The only thing is...now, it seems there is a resolution issue with some of the pics....some of them seem fine, but others are blurry....the resolution seems off...and there seems to be loss of color/lighting in them.....
So, my question is...what would running my iPhoto library from the external HD have to do with the apparent loss of resolution in the pics?

Why do I have to use an Airport Extreme Base Station? Why can't I use my legacy equipment which is a Netgear 4 Port 802.11g Wireless Router and plug a USB ( or preferably Firewire 800) Hub into one of the open ports on this router and then connect my external HD to the hub? Wouldn't that solve my issue. I know my speed might be slow, but would it really not be worth it to do it this way?
What am I gaining by going to the Airport Extreme other than 802.11n technology. I have two external HD's I would need to connect. One is Firewire 400/USB 2.0 and the other is Firewire 800/400 and USB 2.0. I also would want to run Time Machine in conjunction with one of these HD's.
There's got to be a less expensive solution than buying the Airport Extreme Base Station and/or setting up a NAS.

  • Trouble creating album  from My Pictures Folder

I'm trying to create an album from the My Pictures folder under the My Documents folder.  Within MyPictures I have several years worth of pictures organized into different folders.  I would like to basically import the folder structure into an Album.  I can import all of the pictures but they're not organized in any useful way. I don't want to have to reoganize 5 years worth of pictures.  I've been using Picassa and thought Photoshop Elements would be nice to have.  Picassa easily organizes the pictures according to the folder structure I already have.  Is there any practical way to import my folder structure into the album?  If not I think I wasted my money on Photoshop.  Thanks, I'll keep trying but for now I've gone back to Picassa to edit my pictures.

If you have PSE7 or later (not sure about PSE6), you can set the album name when you import photos from a folder. Its in the photo downloader, under advanced options.
An even simpler way to "recreate" your folder structure is to use Folder Location View (Alt-Ctrl-3), although there are some bugs that affect the operations of Folder Location View on occasion.
But ... the point of the Organizer is not to duplicate your folder structure as albums, or to organize by folders. If that's all you're going to do in the Organizer, I wouldn't bother, as it seems like a waste of time to me -- import, set the album name, and when you're all done, you have the same structure and have no benefits that you didn't have before in the folder structure. The Organizer is not a file browser, as Picasa is.
However, if you plan to create these albums, plus use the more powerful tools in the Organizer: (tags, captions, notes) you will have a much more powerful organization of your photos. These tools allow you to organize your photos in non-hierarchical ways (folder organization must be hierarchical). If you want all of your pictures of Churches, regardless of which folder they are in, you click on the Church tag, and you've got them all. You really can't do that in Windows, or with your folders duplicated into albums. If you are going to use these tools (along with your albums), or use the Organizer to make creations, then great, its probably worth your time.

  • Automatically import photos from Desktop Pictures folder

I've already seen that the "Auto Import" requires an empty folder in order to work. This doubles the amount of work required to add photos. Photos have to be moved from the camera to the empty folder, then after Lightroom autoimports, the images have to be moved to the appropriate folder in Lightroom and on the desktop. Boy, that's a great timesaver Adobe.
I have nearly 20,000 photos in my Pictures folders. These are obviously organized into folders. The largest of my folders is my Travel Photos folder, because I'm a travel writer. In the Travel subfolder, I have subfolders for each county, state/province, and city I've visited. When I return from a trip, I move the photos into the appropriate subfolder.
How to I get Lightroom to automatically find these new photos without going through the manual import process -- which is far more efficient than the Auto Import?

I want autoimport to monitor my Pictures folder (E:\Pictures). When I try to modify the settings, it tells me that I can only direct autoimport to an empty folder. With 19,000+ images, my Pictures folder is far from empty.
There appears to be no workarounds according to the Lightroom user manual from Adobe. The manual says that autoimport cannot read subfolders.
This is definitely an upgrade that's needed. I can't imagine how any photographer would want to go through all the extra work for the autoimport.

  • 10.7.2 pictures folder has become a package: is there a fix?

    Hi,
When I click on it in the sidebar I get terminus window with the current login date/time; when I click it on the list next to the sidebar I get a picture of a folder, saying it's got 6 g of pics in it, and that it is a package.
Is there a fix for this, eg via terminal?
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi  - SUCCESS !  It suddenly (after much searching) dawned that : 'if it thinks it's a package, treat it like a package' and did right click - open package contents,  and blimey, there it all is! I have several libraries in the pictures folder, and had to do the same for each library.   It may work in Snow Leopard too, saving having to deal with terminal commands.

  • All the pictures are in bad resolution

I updated the OS to the latest one and now all the pictures that I took with other cameras and download to teh iPhone are in BAD low resolution. Can I fix that or do I need to download all of them again?
    I have iPhone 3Gs.
    Thanks

Uncheck the photo sync option in iTunes and sync
    Re-check it and sync again.
That should sort it all out

  • Can some please provide instructions on how to import an iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Mac without getting a bunch of duplicates?  I tried transferring my pictures using an external hard drive and then copying it to the Pictures folder on my Mac

Can someone please provide instructions on how to import an iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Mac without getting a bunch of duplicates?  I tried transferring my pictures using an external hard drive and then copying it to the Pictures folder on my new Mac.  I ended up getting a bunch of duplicates. My old Mac has an older version of iPhoto while the new Mac has iPhoto '11.  Is that the cause of the problem?  Please advise.  Thanks.

Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
    Regards

  • Can you sync photos to an iPad from both Aperture and Pictures Folder?  I know there are options for both but I have photos on both Aperture and Pictures Folder that I want to put on my iPad.

If I select Aperture as the option to sync for photos I can't select photos from the Pictures folder.  Currently I have my photos synced to Aperture but I want to add photos from Pictures Folder.  It doesn't really look like it's possible to add stuff as it would delete my photos from Aperture if I resync with the Pictures Folder.  Really frustrating because I don't want to have to add those photos to my Aperture library as I'm currently moving away from using Aperture to Lightroom.  So all my older photos are in Aperture but most of my newer images are saved in my Pictures Folder.  Thanks for any help with this.

    Hi Lawrence,
Thanks for that... I thought of that, of adding my iPad Pix as a subfolder of Pictures and syncing to Pictures but I remember many versions of iTunes' ago that I could add folders. Can I still do that or has that option gone? If the option doesn't exist then I suppose I will have to use folders and subfolders.
The thing is, I have iPad Pix as one folder then another folder of Pictures with various subfolders within it. It's a couple of those different subfolders I want to sync as well as iPad Pix and I don't want the hassle of moving and syncing specific folders etc... it really would be easier if I could sync more than one folder at the same time. Hope it's possible...
    Thanks,
    Maz

  • Why won't pictures imported from hard drive Pictures folder show full size in iPhoto?

I imported the photos from my Mac's "Pictures" folder into iPhoto. Some of the pictures I imported just appear in iPhoto as a tiny photo about an inch tall, surrounded by black. If I open them directly from the Pictures folder on my Mac, I can make them full screen. Is there a way to do that in iPhoto? I expect this is happening because of the low resolution of the photo, but I still would like to be able to see it full screen in iPhoto.

iPhoto shows you the image at full resolution. If the image is tiny then it's tiny.
You can magnify an image by 300%. In edit mode hold the option key and tap the 2 or 3 button.
