Screensaver is stuck on

I tried to boot-up my powerbook tonight and it looks like the screensaver is on. When I hit a button to wake it up it does nothing. When I restart it I hear the startup sound but the screen just looks like a screensaver. I spoke to apple and they tell my I have to send it in for repair but when I tried to get that done they tell me I have to show proof of the purchase date before they will warranty it. Even though I purchased it from Apple's website. Only problem is the department is closed until Monday.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Mike

Apple just sent me a new powerbook.

  • Screensaver Slideshow Stuck on 2 photos

When we run our screensaver slideshow, it will run fine for a little while and then always gets stuck on just two photos (not the same every time). It will slideshow just these two photos from that point on, unless you restart the slideshow. Any ideas?

I also have the same problem. It only seems to happen in conjunction with an iPhoto slideshow, if you just point to a folder of images and have it randomly cycle through them there's no problem, but consistently when I point the screensaver slideshow at my iPhoto library, it eventually gets stuck on two photos. Very irritating and I found at least two threads regarding this. C'mon Apple, step it up!?!

  • My Desktop/screensaver is stuck. What can I do to correct it?

After entering syatem preferences and clicking on Desktop/Screensaver button, my mac gets stuck and has done so for the longest time. What can Idoto correct this? I'm at my wits end. Can anyone help??

Boot into recovery mode, ⌘R, and restore the OS.

  • How to resize iPad screensaver

iOS7 iPad screensaver is stuck at one size, how do I get my photo screensaver to fit to screen. If this is a bug, it is hard to believe apple did not see this problem.

It seems to be a bug. Or just an oversight. If you look at the rest of board you will see many posts about this issue. I'm hoping that the next update addresses it. *Fingers crossed* But there may be more important issues, like people getting nauseous.

  • My Experience of Apple TV

    Hi,
I need to get this off my chest, as I've had it with Apple TV. And I need a rant.
I've owned Apple TV for at least three years now, and have had no end of issues with it.
The first issue is the well-document Samsung issue, whereby my TV and Apple TV do not comunicate very well when both are turned on. So every time I want to change channel to Apple TV, I have to unplug it, plug it in, quickly turn to the PC channel when it appears, and hope for the best. Apple don't know much about this, so they just replaced my unit when I pointed it out. To no avail.
Sometimes this trick works fine. Other times (50% of the time) I get a picture but absolutely no sound. So I have to reboot it again.
I've had remotes suddenly stop working with it, and have been forced to re-pair them.
After about half an hour of playing music with my pics as a screensaver, the screensaver gets stuck on one image. Every time.
Sometimes the music stops playing entirely, although I still have sound.
When it works, it works well. It's just a shame it takes me up to 30 minutes to get there, when it should take no more than 5 seconds. And then screws up anyway.
    Thanks for letting me rant.

The trouble is we don't know if it's a problem with the HDMI implementation on AppleTV or the TV - while many argue other devices don't cause issues on the same TV, I don't think we know for certain that this is an AppleTV fault or AppleTV rigidly adhering to some HDMI spec that the other devices are more relaxed about.
I would have to concede it's more likely AppleTv is at fault if other big brand players devices are ok with Tvs, but there are reports of Samsung firmware updates solving the problem for some sets.

    Whatever the cause, incredibly frustrating.

    Never had that.

I assume this is 'one image' not a particular image - do you use artwork with very large dimensions, I suspect many of mine are 500x500 or so, and I don't have problems though have noticed in earlier software that theer was a stutter when cover art flipped - some had noted this seemed to happen with tracks where the name/info had to scroll to be fully seen.
Sometimes the music stops playing entirely, although I still have sound.
    Synced/streamed content? Both?
Some of my units have experienced brief audio only dropouts, then continue - something is not 100% robust about AppleTV playback, but I think some of my issues were router related.
When it works, it works well.
Absolutley - it all depends if it works well 5% or 99% of the time.
For me I'd say it's 95% fine for most things.

Your experience, as Capaho's, clearly borders on the bad experience most of the time.
Sadly as appleTv is tied at the hip with iTunes, there are far too many variables between iTunes/software, network, and AppleTv itself to categorically point to it being AppleTV.
Sometimes the AppleTV's are plain faulty, sometimes in a particular configuration there'll be minor issues (me), sometimes major issues (Capaho, you), sometimes no issues at all (or so infrequent the user's forget them as they resolve after a reboot of one component or another).
Contrary to what some suggest, I do not regard AppleTV as perfect and will criticise/comment on bad aspects when I experience them personally, but will equally try to be honest when praising it - most of the time it works extremely well, within the confines of what it can do.
Most consumers are probably far more fickle (and why not?), and quite rightly expect an AppleTV or other consumer device to behave virtually flawlessly all the time. In terms of media players I've tried though, none so far have performed perfectly or will just play anything you throw at them.
Unless you use a full blown customizable computer for your media device you are always likely to run into format issues, and even then some platforms may be incompatible or have poorer interfaces than dedicated media devices.

  • My Intel iMac won't boot!!!

I was recording a TV show with my Elgato EyeTV. It wasn't finished but I had to go out of the house so I just left it recording. When I came back my screensaver was stuck. Completely frozen. So of course I just decided to restart it. The Apple logo showed up and the spinning wheel started spinning, like it always does. But it didn't stop. The hard drive must have been full!
I saw [this thread|http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/os-x-operating-system/124471-hard-disk- full-mac-wont-boot-up-cannot-install-leopard.html] about someone that had the same problem. He was told that he should reinstall Leopard, which would wipe out all the data on the hard drive. I do not want that!! I've got some really valuable things there!
Another guy said that by connecting another computer to it with a FireWire and boot up while pressing "T" I would be able to manage the files in the other computer. I did that, connected via FireWire, pressed T on startup and the disk "Macintosh HD" showed up as an external FW drive. But it seems to me that I only have a very limited time to do anything! After that it just shows up in "Devices" but I cant do anything! Once I was quick enough and I moved to the trash my EyeTV recordings. So I went to the Trash and hit the "Empty" button. The progress bar "Emptying trash" came up, but it didn't move! I wasn't quick enough.
So, what? Will I really have to reinstall MacOSX? Could I maybe be able to take it to an Apple Store and let them take a look at it?

If you are not afraid of using terminal.app, then you can boot from the install DVD and use terminal
to remove some files using the "rm" command.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/Command_Line_Adminv10.5.pdf
If you do not have your install disks handy, you can boot into single user mode:
To start up in single-user mode:
Choose Apple menu > Restart, or press the power button if the computer is turned off.
Press Command-S as the computer starts up.
The computer screen is black with standard white text. You can now run the UNIX commands that you want.
    /sbin/mount -uw / #mounts the boot volume#
    rm /path/to/file #removes file#
    example: rm /users/me/videofiles/bigfatvideofile.mov
    #this will remove the "bigfatvideofile.mov" file#
Be careful with the rm command, if you are new to using it, I suggest you stay away
from using it with the -R (file hierarchy) switch and the wildcard "*".
Using those subcommands inadvertantly could quickly give you a lot more room than you bargained
    for!
Oh, almost forgot, If using single user mode, "reboot" is the command to leave SUM when you are done.

  • Prevent Remote Desktop 2008R2 session from locking after 10 mins of inactivity

Do you have a screensaver setup?
GPEDIT -> User configuration -> Administrative templates -> control panel -> display
Change screen saver to disabled, and screen saver timeout to a high value just in case.
Sometimes there are issues with screensaver settings stuck there is a reg fix for it as well:[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop] "ScreenSaverIsSecure"="0"

Can someone direct me where to prevent the session from locking after 10 mins.  I have read that this is a default behavior of 2008R2.
    Thanks

  • Very minor but weird annoyance

Hey all, I'm suffering a weird little issue since I had to reinstall Arch a few weeks back
If I close the laptop lid and open it back up, everything works perfectly, the screen lights up everything's fine.
But gradually, and almost imperceptibly, the screens gets darker!
It's equivalent to when I turn the screen brightness down in a dark room or whatever, but it actually seems more subtle - and it's not until you realise you're squinting that it becomes clear that the brightness has gone right down to the bottom.
But like I say, it doesn't happen straight away, but over what seems maybe 60 seconds, until it reaches the darkest setting.
Any ideas what could be going on?

Sounds like a screensaver is stuck in "fading to black" mode. Disable/remove your screensavers?
    Or maybe power-saving

  • Home folder stuck in screensaver list in system preferences.

Help! I inadvertently put my home folder in the screensaver list in system preferences. When I access the screensaver list in system preferences, it causes an immediate spinning ball that I have to force quit. I cannot use a screensaver and I cannot create a guest user. How do I get my home folder out of the screensaver list in system preferences? Thanks.

I have a document stuck in my finder sidebar, and it will not delete using the command/drag approach.  I cannot even highlight it without it opening.  Nothing is working.  Why is such a simple thing taking so much time?  Apple is supposed to be intuitive and easy, that is why I paid 3x as much for this MacBook as I could have for a pc.  Please help!

  • Stuck in ScreenSaver Limbo

Every now and then, ever since 10.9.1 beta and now 10.9.2, the screen saver will be "stuck", and I won't be able to enter my password in the login window.  It's like the login box cannot "grab" focus.  Command-Tab, Alt-Tab, etc does not bring the login prompt to the front or allow me to type in it.  Pressing any key gives me a beep, indicating that I'm typing in a window that doesn't take keystrokes.
I do run my 15" Retina macbook at 2560 x 1600, but the problem still exists when I'm using normal Retina resolutions.

Evreytime i go to change my setting(for the screensaver) my system perfences quits, then i try to reopen it again and it quits again and asks me to report it to apple. i have and i even call them with my apple care but it still does it.( this all started after i change my scrrensaver to ituens artwork) Has anyone seen or heard of anything like this??
ANY feedback would be awesome. thanks
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Yep sure have. It seems like when this comes up it usually is associated to using the iTunes screensaver. Try running a Spotlight search for a .plist file that contains both screensaver and iTunes. I don't have one since I've never ran the iTunes screensaver so I can't say specifically what it would be called. But it should be something like com.apple.iTunesscreensaver.plist
If you find something along those lines Trash that .plist file and try going to your screensaver system preferences again.

  • Why is the screensaver stuck at "loading pictures" forever?

I have Aperture (latest version), with 80,000 photos, and Iphoto (latest version), with only 26 photos.  I've checked permissions and repaired my drives from the repair partition.  I've run Repair Permission, Repair Database, and Rebuild Database on Aperture, and Iphoto.  I've deleted the screensaver plist file via
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.screensaver.plist
No luck - screensaver still takes forever to start, and I can't even change the screensaver settings - it's just hung at "loading photos".  I'm on Mavericks now, but this has been happening since Mountain Lion I believe.
    Anything else I can try?

If that does not work try here:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

  • My Iphone Off/On push button is apparently stuck. I am unable to turn it off or push for the black screensaver. Is there a mechanical fix or am I sunk with a defective phone now?

question: Is my IPhone 4S now defective/defunct for use with a bad push button for on/off and screensaver, or is there a mechanical fix that an Apple Store Genius can do to pop that button out again?

Oh, yes, the Apple store will either install that cheesy, annoying screen app, or tell me I can replace my phone - only 1 1/2 years old - come on, Apple! - for a hefty price since the warranty is over and my cell contract still has months to go. Oh, and I've purchased AppleCare several times on other products and never needed it because I am careful with my electronics! Apple has gotten enough money from me for AppleCare in the past, and why would I have expected Apple to have a shoddy product (well, I might now). Thanks for responding, though.

  • Apple TV Screensaver stuck on Iphoto Album

I made an IPhoto album of friends pictures and set Apple TV screensaver to it. Worked fine. Now I'd like to change the screensaver's library back to IPhoto Events or Photos and can't find those libraries on Apple TV screensaver. All I get is the "friends" album. How do I get the IPhot "Events" and "Photos" libraries back?

Ok. If you just wanted to view your library manually then you would just make sure all pictures have been selected in iTunes (file - home sharing - choose photos to share). You can then view them under the Computers icon on Apple TV.
If you want to mirror, native use will require a Mac from 2011 or later, running OSX 10.8 or later. Older hardware can use 3rd party software like Airparrot. You would then just create the slideshow on your Mac and activate mirroring to display on your HDTV via Apple TV.
Note: both methods require the computer to be on. Home sharing will need iTunes to be open as well.

  • When i go to System Preferences and click on Desktop and Screensaver the computer goes to that screen but gets stuck and does not respond no matter how many times i try. Any suggestions?

When i go to System Preferences and choose Desktop & Screensaver the system locks up and will not show any options. All i get is the circle of color and have to do a force quit. Any suggestions?

First follow the instructions in this support article.
If an iPhoto or Aperture library is the source of your desktop pictures, it may need to be rebuilt, or you may need to update the application to the latest version.
    Otherwise, continue as below.
    Back up all data.
In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists:
    Caches/com.apple.systempreferences
and move the following items to the Desktop, if they exist:
    Application Support/Dock/desktoppicture.db
    Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Launch System Preferences and test. If you still have the issue, put the items you moved to the Desktop back where they came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the items.
