Screensaver named Random not compatible with Snow Leopard

Hello
When I run my iMac under 10.6.1, it defaults to a tool which lup among intalled screensavers.
So, from time to time it try to display a screensaver entitled Random.
When it did, it displays a black screen and a white sentence: the screensaver named "Random" is not compatible with the operating system, contact the developer.
Fine, it's an Apple product
I moved it on the desktop so I was able to pack it in a zip archive (one never knows), trashed the true file emptied the trash and rebooted.
I was sure that I would be free of the message.
I was wrong, the message continue to appear.
How may I really get rid of this beast ?
Now, I assume that the app is using a list of items.
Where is this list to get rid of it?
There is no "Random" available in the ScreenSaver PrefPane.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks,
it just changed the error message.
Now it no longer display "Random" but "Aléatoire".
I found a workaround:
I selected "Mélange",
and disabled Plages which I dislike.
Now I no longer get the black screen
One more time I'm bored because I don't know the true explanation

  • Leopard TM backups are NOT compatible with Snow Leopard

I just discovered while upgrading to Snow Leopard that Time Machine backups made in Leopard are not compatible with Snow Leopard at this time. So, for those of you who are considering upgrading to Snow Leopard using your TM backups to restore your data, the TM backup will not be recognised by Snow Leopard.
I called Apple Care to check this when I went to restore my data as I had done an Erase and Install, and they confirmed that I would have to either:
    a) use the data on my TM drive as any other data only backup, or
    b) re-inslall Leopard, restore the TM backup, then upgrade to Snow Leopard rather than erase and install.
    For info

    Scott in MD wrote:
Incidentally, yes, the "package" file is the in.Progress file. It seems to have the incremental updates, since it's a real big file, and has very recent entries. Again the last set of timestamped folders (i.e. a full backup) was over a year ago.
No, something's very wrong. All (completed) TM backups are the same.
Inside the Backups.backupdb folder should be a single folder with your computer name; inside that should be a series of folders with the date & time of each remaining backup, plus the Latest folder which is an alias to the most recent of the date & time folders, except an "in.Progress" folder.
The "in.Progress" folder is an incomplete (failed or cancelled) backup, and is ignored in all TM displays, since it's unusable.
In any event I have not deleted or changed any of the files. Also the stuff in the "Latest" folder is over a year old. But I've had TM running the whole time.
So does that mean (I'm hoping) that my recent stuff will be recovered from the inProgress file if I can ever get this working? Or does it mean I'm screwed anyways, because the best I can get is the files from the Latest or most recent timestamped folder (again, both a year back).
First, run +*Repair Disk+* again (and again) until it either fixes all the errors or can't fix any more. If it can't fix any more, it's barely possible a heavy-duty 3rd-party app such as +DiskWarrior 4.2+ can (it's about $100).
Let's see if DU can fix it on a second pass. Hopefully it will, and the problem was preventing the more recent backups from appearing.

  • Epson 1280 not compatible with Snow Leopard

Well, I guess I'm one of the many who installed Snow Leopard, only to find out my printer is not supported. I read stuff on this forum, went to the Epson site and I am out of luck. I guess my questions are these:
I don't know if I should try to uninstall Gutenprint or not. Do you think my printer will work properly then?
Do you think Epson will come out fairly soon with updated drivers? I contacted them, but don't expect to hear anything back.
Should I just uninstall Snow Leopard?
It's the only time in all these years of using a Mac I've ever had any printer problems with an upgrade. I could use some advice. Thanks!

I followed the instructions on the Epson Snow Leopard faq page. I downloaded and installed the 10.4.x driver for the printer. Then I deleted the Epson 1280 Gutenprint printer using System Preferences and immediately added back the Epson 1280 using the Epson driver. I now have the "Utility" option back in the printer driver window, including the ability to use the head cleaning and print head check page tools. All is well with me, although I'm going to have to recalibrate because things are printing too dark. Good luck.

  • Is Microsoft Office 2004 compatible with Snow Leopard?

I am just about to buy a new MacBook Pro and would like to transfer the Microsoft Office 2004 programme & all my Word/powerPoint/Excel files from my old MacBook (OS 10.4.11). One local vendor tells me MS2004 is not compatible with Snow Leopard and I have to spend c$250 to buy the Office 2008 version. Another says they are compatible and I can easily transfer. It is important to me as I need to use the Office for my work.
    1.Which is correct?
    2. And are there an significant advantages to the new 2008 Office version which would encourage me to upgrade and spend $250?

    Hi a:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I have been running Microsoft Office 2004 for quite awhile. On my system, it runs just fine. I use both Word and Excel and it does read PowerPoint presentations.
I have read the posts on the Apple Store part of this site and have shied away from Office 2008 because of some negative feedback. Functionally, I could not see any difference from the written material. Since Office 2004 was working just fine, I did not buy the 2008 product.

    Hi..
here can I get a version of Safari 5.1 that is compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6.3?
Not possible. You need to update to v10.6.8
Click your Apple menu > Software Update
Or update using the this download > Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
    Then restart your Mac.

  • FC Studio 2 compatible with Snow Leopard?

    H there,
I am in the process of buying a new computer, upgrading from a G4. I use Final Cot Studio 2 (with FCP6) and wonder, if this is compatible with snow leopard. I tired to find an answer on this, but a lot of people seemed to have problems when they install snow leopard. In my case, it would be installing Final Cut from the CD's and them upgrading to the latest version. Ideally, I would like to wait and not buy FCP7 yet. Can anyone advice me on the compatibility?
    Many thanks,
    Anita

From what I've read, it is important to install FCP 6 and all updates from the original install discs over a clean install of SL.
Problems seem to arise with upgrade installs.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is adobe photoshop lightroom 2.0 compatible with snow leopard (10.6) ?

adobe photoshop lightroom 2.0 compatible with snow leopard (10.6) ?

The official line is yes. However, some users have experienced some problems. Whether these are due to incompatibility or problems resulting from the upgrade process is not yet clear.
The only acknowledge issue relates to Edit in Photoshop command not transferring images for Photomerge or as Smart Objects.
Note: Except for above, I'm running Lr 2.4 on a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard without issue.

  • Is DVD Studio Pro 4 compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6.8?

Is DVD Studio Pro 4 compatible with Snow Leopard? Project burns fine, simulates fine, works on my two macs (mac pro & macbook pro networked) but when I put the dvd in to a dvd played hooked to a tv it doesn't recoginize it and says "this disc connot be played"!

It's your set top DVD player that won't play the disk...  That or it's the type of disk that you're using.
    Make sure it's a DVD-R.  That's a MINUS.
They pretty much work in all set top DVD players.
The reason your computers play the dvd's is simply because your computer knows what to do with all types of media.  Something else to consider could be the optical read capability on your computer is better than that of your DVD player.  Perhaps the DVD is a poor quality disk.  You computer can read it because it has a higher quality optical pickup unit.
First things first, take your DVD to a place that sells DVD players and try it in a new player.  That'll tell you whether or not the disk actually works.

  • Where can I get a version of Aperture compatible with Snow Leopard?

I have Snow Leopard (10.6) on my iMAC and I did not upgrade to Lion as it is good enough for what I do with my iMAC.
Unfortunately, the Aperture version available in the App Store recommends MAC OS 1.7 or later.
Is there a previous version of Aperture, which is compatible with Snow Leopard (10.6), still available?
If so, where can I get it?
Thank you in advance to the Apple community.
    Philippe

As keith alluded to if you stay with SL and get a version of Aperture that runs on it you will be locked into that. There will be no more updates for Aperture or the Raw Camera bundle.
So if that version of Aperture supports your camera and you have no plans to change cameras to something that is not supported in that version then you will be fine.
If you think you might be getting a new camera at some point then you might just want to bit the bullet and do the upgrades now.
    regards

  • Is my Imac compatible with Snow Leopard?

Hi, I have been reading through the posts trying to find a solution for the strange things my computer is doing (or rather, NOT doing) since I installed Snow Leopard.
I read that SL is not compatible with all machines... Could anyone tell me if my machine DOES qualify? Could an "incompatability" be the source of my computer strangeness?
When I click on "About this Mac" I am told I have "Mac OS X Version 10.6" (but it does not specify which version of 10.6). Is that normal?
    My Hardware Overview is :
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac6,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2,16 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM61.0093.B07
    SMC Version (system): 1.10f3
    Hardware UUID: 00000000-0000-1000-8000-0017F2C4F6F8
    THANK YOU FOR YOUR INPUT!!!

Could an "incompatability" be the source of my computer strangeness?
Most definitely. Quite a few applications & other kinds of software are compatible with one version of an OS but not with the next. Without a clue about what kind of "strangeness" you are experiencing, it is hard to make specific recommendations, but you should make sure everything you have installed that did not come from Apple is the most up-to-date version offered & known to be compatible with Snow Leopard.

  • Is mountain lion compatible with snow leopard?

is mountain lion compatible with snow leopard? can you use the same version of iTunes

VMware and Toaster can be upgraded to versions that will run on Mountain Lion.
I was not able to find anything on PalmPilot for Mountain Lion. Of course seeing as how it is at least 15 years old that doesn't surprise me.
As I see you want to run two operating systems which means rebooting to use them just for PalmPilot. IMHO that is a lot of effort on your part for a very small gain.

  • Is iMovie '06 compatible with Snow Leopard?

I've read too many posts indicating difficulties with an upgrade to Snow Leopard but probably just as many from people who have had success. I'm always slow to update operating systems however it seems like more and more applications require Leopard (or SL) to run. I'm still on Tiger, love it, but am forced to upgrade in order to run current apps. My biggest concern is for iMovie 6.03 which I will never give up for the lame versions of imovie that succeeded it. So my question is, is iMovie 6.03HD compatible with Snow Leopard or would I be better served just to go to Leopard in order to run these newer apps?

I see you have not yet marked your topic "Answered", so perhaps you are hoping for other input.

It works fine on both my Snow Leopard (SL) Macs.

As concerned as you are, and as important as iMovie6 seems to be to you, unless you must use some of the new apps or OS features that require upgrading, you might be better served by continuing to use your existing and proven reliable Tiger OS.
Your next Mac will come with the OS that maximizes its performance. Until then, you save at least $169(US), and keeping the Tiger OS that you KNOW works eliminates all of you worries.

  • FCE version 3.5 compatible with Snow Leopard?

I have a new Mac Pro running OS 10.6.2. Does anyone know whether Final Cut Express (version 3.5) is compatible with Snow Leopard? I really like that this version has Live Type and Soundtrack, which is why I want to install it, instead of upgrading to version 4. Thanks.

I believe FCE4 is technically the only version supported by Apple for use with Snow Leopard. (I'm sure Tom will correct me if I'm wrong!) That being said, many people have found that it still works.
If you upgrade to FCE4, the projects from the old version will work fine. However, you will not be able to open any FCE4 projects in your old FCE3.5 (you probably wouldn't want to anyway).

  • Is VMWare Fusion 2.0.5 compatible with Snow Leopard?

Anyone knows if VMWare Fusion 2.0.5 is compatible with Snow Leopard?

I was able to get mine to boot by
    1) loading my backup 10.5.8 onto an external disk as a bootable version
    2) boot my MBP from the external
    3) run vmware and do a shut down on the XP
    4) copy the instance of XP from my external to my internal
    5) I don't remember if I had to delete preferences or not... but I don't think so
We had to downgrade a couple of Mac Mini's to 10.5.8 to get them to run VMWare without having the system hang up with the black screen of restart death after between a few hours and 2 days of running. We are pretty rough with our code and have 2 instances of VMWare running 2 different XP's at the same time.
