Screensaver never starting when iTunes plays music

Hi,
I have recently bought a Mac mini that I've put in my living room, connected to my flat screen. The Mac mini is connected by HDMI to my Audio/Video amplifier (Denon) which connects by HDMI to my flat screen. This is fantastic to sit in the sofa to surf the Web and get iTunes playing music in the room.
My problem is that despite the screen saver is turned On in the settings, it never pops up/starts if iTunes is running and playing Music. The impact is that my flat screen is left with static image which is not good. So I can start the visualization in full screen, but I would prefer something automatic to save my flat screen
All my software are up to date (did check a few seconds ago).
This seems somehow something specific to the Mac Mini.
I am wondering if there would be an hidden setting, somewhere, to ensure the screensaver is not blocked or disabled by iTunes?
Thanks,
Matthieu

  • Screensaver not starting when iTunes is running. Works otherwise...

    Hi everyone,
My screensaver will not start when iTunes is running (also Spotify). When the app is closed, the screensaver starts when it's supposed to (5 min. in my case, but have tried other time limits). I've tried changing mouse settings and even shutting it off to see if that's the cause but it didn't help. I use the MacMini as a home theater computer hooked up to my plasma so I need the screensaver to work. In the meantime, I've been using hot corners to force screensaver, but I would love for it to start automatically when music is playing. I've tried rebooting, resetting, but to no avail.
Has anyone else had this issue or know what the problem is?
I'm running MacMini brand new. Mavericks 10.9.1. Latest iTunes.
    Thanks.

I don't normally use the screensaver. However when I tested it, I get the same results while iTunes is running.
I encourage you to report it using > Apple - Mac OS X - Feedback

  • When itunes plays music speakers crackle

Whenever I play music with iTunes the sound crackles immensely. But when I play music through any other audio player, sound quality is perfect. Can anyone help me solve this problem? Future responses much appreciated.

  • My mac gets slow when I play music from my iTunes library

Hi, aproximately six months ago I noticed that everytime I play music from my iTunes library that its stored in my 27" iMac's hard drive, the computer gets slow, the images start to flicker, the animatios on the dock and the one when u minimize or maximaze the windows, also flicker. As soon as I close iTunes the computer works fine again. When I play music from a CD this doesn't happen.
I've taken the iMac to two service providers along theese 6 months and neighther have been able to fix the issue. What they have diagnozed is an issue with the hard drive which has been changed 4 times already.
    What could be the issue?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Has anyone else experienced the stopping and starting again while  playing music in iTunes.  It was fixed but with the last update it has started skipping again.

Has anyone else experienced the stopping and starting again whil playing music in itunes.  It was working fine wit the prior fix, but after the last update
    it started skipping again.

Try it in another vehicle see if it still happens, at least you can narrow it down to your  phone or the car. My 4s play totally fine, I have never had any of those issues. Maybe its time to restore your phone and start over. I would also have someone else play their Iphone in your car, see if it happens to them. Or try yours in someone elses car. Good Luck!

One weird thing: the drive never mounts on the desktop, the only way I can see it is to click on the TC in 'shared devices' in finder sidebar.
That's normal. A network drive won't mount by itself. You may want to add the drive to your login items and/or the login items of your boy's account.
He came over to update his iPod tonight. Now the library is inaccessible. It says that his account is not authorized for the folder.
Is that a USB drive? How have you defined access to that drive in AirPort Utility? If you set it to "Secure Shared Disks" "With accounts", you'll have to add his account.

  • How do I prevent itunes from moving my music from its original place ie folders in an external drive when I play music from itunes. I have all my music in artist folders and separated by MPG3/MPG4 and FLAC folder within the artist folder.

How do I prevent itunes from moving my music from its original place ie folders in an external drive when I play music from itunes. I have all my music in artist folders and separated by MPG3/MPG4 and FLAC folders within the artist folder and itunes moves the track/s whenever i try and load selected music to my ipod/iphone. I've tried to find some sort of preference to prevent this, but no joy? What am I missing?

Try opening iTunes preferences. Then click on advanced tab. Then uncheck "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library." By default, iTunes copies music to its own media folder when you use iTunes to play the music.

  • Hi, Im having trouble with my Iphones sounds, it wont let me listen to music, watch videos, notify me if i get a text, basically everything that makes a sound is no longer working. The volume level you get when you play music isnt there, HELP?!

Hi, basically i have no sound at all on my Iphone, it doent notify me when i get a text, when someone rings, when i play music or watch videos, the volume slider that is usually present while watching videos or listening to music is no longer there at all, ive turned my phone on and off a couple of times now ive put headphones in and out to see if i had a sticky jack but still no luck Someone help??

And to clarify, these are all iTunes movie and music downloads, so there should not be a compatability issue. And no, the iPod did not come damaged from Apple, it was a hand-me-down from a friend who busted the internal speaker. But it's never done anything like this before. It just had crappy sound. And yes, the timing of the movies and music having issues is the same as the speaker dying. And no, this has NOTHING To do with music videos. I don't have any on any of our devices.

  • How do I turn off  all those visual effects when I play music?

I dont really want or need those special effects when I play music.(All that panning in or mirroring of the album artwork, sometimes it even switches sides!) I would even prefer to see the Artwork of the music being played, but perhaps just smaller and static on the moniter screen... All this beautifull technology is just wasted on me! How can I deactivate this feature?

Sorry to say you can't disable it.
The swinging artwork gets tedious after a few minutes - more relaxing to turn the TV off!
I generally set the album artwork screensaver to kick in after a few minutes - it's a more relaxed screensaver than the currently playing album effect, but some more options during playback would not go amiss, particularly an iTunes like visualiser.
I think on balance that's better than only having a static image option as there are risks of screen burn especially for plasma owners with static images (my LG LCD TV even gets image retention issues with satellite channel logos!)

  • HI I have an Iphone 3GS and the microphone jack works when I play music but not when making phone calls.   please help as I use it for conference calls

Hi   I use my phone for conference calls and use the microphone jack to connect to speakers.      It doesnt work when making phone calls but when i play music on the phone the jack works with the external speaker.

Happy to have been of help. Hope all goes smoothly.
BTW, for the sake of others who may help you here, it's usually most polite if you mark the post that answered your question as being the one that "solves" it, not your own post. That's how people get points here, if a questioner marks their post as either "helpful" or "solving". It's not an issue for me, but for those just starting out in the forums it may be important to them. See:

    Beer,
is that when you want to play music over the air (airplay) like BT headset or something?
because i am facing the below issue in my car.
the phone minimizes the volume of airplay and the ringing to 0 when connecting to a device (BT headset or car kit)
upon disconnecting, the ringing tone remains 0 and i miss all or most of my calls.

  • Static when I play music

I set my Ipod mini to only update certain playlists when I plug it in and synchronize. Now when I play music (either through headphones or with my JBL speakers) I get static. I downloaded the updater and it didn't work. Why am I getting static and what can I do to make it stop?

"I downloaded the updater and it didn't work."
Simply downloading the updater to your computer will do nothing. You should use the updater to restore the iPod then reload the playlists etc from iTunes.
