Screensaver of WWDC 07
Hi, does anyone remember that demo of Core Animation at WWDC 07 in January where Steve presented the animation of those buildings wrapping up with iTunes cover arts? That seemed like a screensaver to me and it would be a very cool one.
It doesn´t seem to be part of the final system, has anyone seen that somewhere 3rd party?
If I remember correctly that would be a sore topic for Apple. Apple was sued by an artist who said it was his/her original work and was ripped off.

ITunes Screensaver with building
In the WWDC of Leopard, one of the features shown with CoreAnimation was the iTunes screensaver using the album art that made the buildings that you could zoom around, etc. Does anyone know how to do this?
Here's an image of the artwork in the demo:

Thanks! It was just a demo shown by Apple. It doesn't exist in the OS. Sorry to disappoint you.

Is there a way to create a custom screensaver with pics/slides that display for different amounts of time? Or even add a "video slide" into the screensaver?
My business has 3 TVs displayed in our lobby, each with its own apple TV and they are all linked to the same photo stream. Currently the Atv screensaver displays the photostream pictures of our products for the default 3 seconds. We just added pics/slides that now display messages and useful info for our customers but I want that info to be displayed for a longer period of time than the pictures to give people a chance to read it.
I tried using flickr and powerpoint as a work around but no luck. I created a slide in powerpoint with play length of 15 secs and saved it as a wmv file. I added that file to a "screensaver" set in flickr and pointed the Atv screensaver to that flickr set. It still displays everything, pics and the wmv file at the default 3 sec.
I know I can increase the duration of all pics in the screensaver to display for longer but the goal is to have the pics display at 3 secs and the info slides to display at 15 secs.Welcome to the Apple Community.
No that's not possible.
If you have any suggestions that you think might enhance the Apple TV you can send Apple your feedback here -
Can not get out of screensaver
Hello,
I have a Lenovo R500 with Windows 7. When i leave my computer on for a while without using it gets into a screensaver state where i can not get out of, only by restarting abruptly the computer and so all open programs that are still running. How can i solve this?
Thanks!
JohanHi Johan1974,
Here are a few more details:
Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
In the list of device categories, expand Mice and other pointing devices.
Right-click the entry for your mouse, and then click Properties.
In the Mouse Properties dialog box, click the Power Management tab, check the Allow this device to wake the computer check box, and then click OK.
There are some screenshots here although the instructions are to remove the check because it is advising how to disable it. You will be doing the opposite.:

Old screensaver bug still present in Snow Leopard
This bug has driven me mad in the past (since Tiger!) and I am still getting it on Snow Leopard.
Scenario:
1. Invoke screensaver
2. Wake computer
3. Get password prompt for a split second - (it disappears, like a focus issue).
4. left with a blank screen and cursor. No means of logging in.
5. try to re-invoke screensaver by either putting to sleep via power button or closing lid.
6. Awaken computer - same thing happens.
This doesn't happen 100% of the time but it does require a hard reboot to get out of.
This is one of those bugs that i've managed to live with for a few years but i'm starting to go mad when its still present in the Snowleopard! (pls excuse my venting!)
Obviously the easy issue is to disable the screensaver password - but you'd think this would be fixed by now - Or am I just being stupid and missing something obvious?
Cheers,
Steve </vent>I am experiencing both your size issue and a different bug concurrently.
I also get the 'white' image bug if scrolling through images and then quickly backtracking to a previous one. Then that image will remain white until I close quicklook and reopen it on a different file. Reopening on the same file still results in a white image. Happened under 10.9 and is happening to me under 10.9.2 on a Macbook Pro, 2010 iMac and non-apple branded um, mac. Size and file type don't matter.
I get a similar log entries once in a while but the backtracking white image thing doesn't cause quicklookd to spam any console info that is searchable in the console.
Removing quicklook plugins, clearing it's cache and whatnot didn't do anything.
*EDIT*
http://support.cocoatech.com/discussions/announcements/6-quicklook-issues-pf-652
Apparently my 'snap back' issue is was caused by the version of Path Finder 6 I was running on those machines.
It would seem that there are a number of other issues with the 10.9 quicklook API. I guess I'm going to wait and hope it gets fixed. -
How do I use my own photos for screensaver in Mountain Lion
How do I use my own photos for screensaver in Mountain Lion. I cannot see how to use my photos. It seems that the screensaver is set with factory settings. There appears to be no alternative.

Is there a way to keep the screensaver on?
I have Macbook Pro from around 2008, not sure of the exact model, running 10.5.8. I have it hooked up to a large Apple Display. We're having a party tomorrow night and I'd like to leave the screensaver on a photo album of a trip to Italy that we took, but I can't figure out a way to set it so that the screensaver stays on continuously. Is there a way to do that? Or, do I need to run it as a continuous slideshow in iPhoto instead? Thanks
Hi Jayfram
You could configure the computer to stay on:
apple menu, system preferences, energy saver, power adapter tab
set computer to sleep never
display sleep to never
uncheck automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep
this will allow your computer to stay on while it's plugged in.
The advantage of the screen saver is you can password protect the computer. this way no one can stop the slide show; and start messing around with your computer. The down side is people can still disrupt the slide show by accidentally bumping into the computer; but after a bit it will resume again.
If you want to use the screen saver:
apple menu system preferences, security, check require password x minutes after sleep or screen saver begins. in this case you might want to set the computer to require password quickly.
You may also want to make it easy to quickly enable the screen saver:
apple menu, system preferences, desktop & screen saver tab, hot corners button, set a hot corner.
while your there you can of corse configure the setting for the screen saver slide show.
If you chose to do an iphoto slide show. bumping the mouse wouldn't stop the slide show. iPhoto gives better control over slide shows. but you can't lock the computer like you can with a screen saver. -
I changed my screensaver to the itunes album art slideshow the day I got my macbook pro. I have been unable to change it since then.
Going through system preferences, then clicking "desktop and screensaver" will bring me to the window where I should be able to change the screensaver. However, ther preview window is empty and the list of available screen savers in not populated. Within second the window closes itself and the following message appears: "The applicatio System Preferences quit unexpectadly."
Choosing any of the options "close," "report," or "reopen" and trying again yeilds the same results.Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and enter ~/Library/Preferences/ as the folder's location. When this folder has appeared, move the item named com.apple.desktop.plist to the desktop. Next, open the ByHost folder inside and move anything which has a name containing screensaver inside to the desktop as well. If everything works properly after moving those files, throw them away.

Iphoto library lost but still in screensaver??!!
Hello all. Not sure what kind of issue this is.. The other day I left the room for 45 min and when I returned my computer mysteriously defaulted back to settings it had by the previous owner.. My bookmarks were gone, screensaver, wallpaper, itunes, and iphoto library were wiped out!! However now when the new default screensaver kicks in (photo slideshow), it shows all the old photos I had before. My photo library is still empty, but there they are. I can't open the 2008 folder in the screensaver options list to access those old photos individually. Is there any way to access these? They are on my ipod as well, but I can't view them on the monitor for some reason when it's hooked up.. only on the ipod screen itself. This totally ***** and I have no idea what caused this to happen.
Thanks for responding. No, everything is the same. It was as though there was some sort of "restore settings" option of some kind that was initiated. I had to re-register for yahoo msgr. for example and had to click the option for opening iphoto every time I connected a digital camera, etc.. like I was using these apps for the first time and setting preferences. There was no power failure at the house or anything like that. I have all those old photos on my ipod too but I cant look at them on my monitor when I connect it and I don't know why. I wish i could just upload all my ipod content into my itunes again but it doesn't let you do that even though I'm the registered user. I can only sync with current photo library which i don't want since there is nothing in it after the "crash". AARGHH!!

Problem with iTunes and Screensaver
Since a little while i can't maximize iTunse when it is minimized. When i click the green maximize button iTunes stops playing and quits. (At this moment i have it running minimized)
I can maximize it when i use the button "store" - "show my account", but when i want to go to my music iTunes freezes and quits.
At the same time, i can't use my screensaver anymore, if have selected in the past "flurry" as screensaver. When i want to start my screensaver via a interactive corner the screensaver starts but inmediatly freezes and quits.
I tried to select a new screensaver in "Preferences" - "desktop/screensaver" but i can't get into the "screensaver" field to change it. Than the preference pane freezes and quits.
Does anyone have an idea what to do?In addition to the post above.
Time Machine isn't working either. I have configured Time Machine and it does back-up my system as it should, but when i want to start Time Machine to take a look at my back-up it freezes and causes the Finder to restart. -
Screensaver is not working in OSX Yosemite
Hi,
My screensaver is not working in OSX Yosemite on my macbook pro late 2008
Can't solve it by my self..I had noticed I was having this issue too, and my screensaver never kicking in, and just going to sleep with it never kicking in.
I had gone in and checked to see if any of the settings had got changed or deleted in the system upgrade, but they were all still set at what I had them at prior... so, did as some attempted above also, and adjusted the times for it to kick in, and still nothing. Worked when I would hit 'Preview', but still not kick in at the interval time.
What I just did to get it to work, was just to simply go into System Preferences>Desktop & Screensaver, and just reselected the folder of images that I want to be used, in my case, a folder of images in my iPhoto. And it now works.
Apparently, it wasn't working, because, even though it was still selected to use that folder in iPhoto, something must have changed in the upgrades, which might of had something to to with the iPhoto update too, where it had to update my iPhoto library upon relaunch... and my screensaver settings were set to access that older directed to folder within Library, that was updated in the new release... and so, just repointing it to that folder now in iPhoto, got it to work.
At least, that is my figurin', and I'm stickin' to it! -
Desktop Image and Screensaver: doesn't work
I can not change my desktop image, and my screensaver won't start.
I was playing around in Desktop Preferences tonight, setting different speeds for the iTunes Artwork screensaver to see how it'd look, and suddenly, System Preferences just crashed on me. I wasn't doing ANYTHING strange, just playing with the options of the original screensavers that came with my computer, which is brand new. I don't have any third party screensavers loaded on my machine. The desktop image was one I made myself, with Photoshop. I have absolutely no idea why it's acting this way.
Even stranger, out of curiosity, I created a second user account and tried the screen saver while logged in the second account. The screensaver worked just fine. But still nothing in my main account. Any ideas?
When I try Desktop Images and Screensaver now (within System Preferences), it CRASHES on me. I get this error message:
"The application System Preferences quit unexpectantly.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple."
If I reopen it again, I get the same thing. The second error dialog will always have the option to "try again." If I try again, I can actually open the Desktop Images and Screensavers window. I can't change anything, however. If I try changing something, I get the following message:
"System Preferences -- New Settings
New settings have been created for this application. Do you wish to use these settings from now on?"
With two buttons for yes or no. However, no matter which button I select, I get the same results.
I've run OSX through Jaguar and Panther, so it's not like I'm a new user who just clicked the wrong thing. I'm seriously stumped here. Can anyone help? I'm a little worried about this.... Thanks.
Dual Core Intel Mac Mini Mac OS X (10.4.6)THANK YOU!!!! Yes, it was the preferences in my library causing the problems. I just deleted the screensaver preferences, and that fixed all the problems, including the desktop image problem.
I also think that maybe an alarm clock program I downloaded called Aurora may have been partly to blame. I had Aurora authorized to wake my computer from sleep, even though I had password protection enabled. This might have conflicted with the screensaver somehow, dunno.... Let me know if any of you are successfully using Aurora without any problems, and I will reinstall it. But for now, that program is off my system.
Anyways, thanks a load. You guys are all very helpful. -- Dean -

10.5.2, Screensaver Security, and Disk Utility
After installing the 10.5.2 software update, it is appropriate to use Disk Utility (DU) to repair permissions. I learned this from the fact that I had somehow lost the protection I had previously set up by requiring my password to wake up the computer from its screensaver mode. I checked my preferences and found them to continue to call for that form of security with the use of my screensaver. Because my preferred security settings were being ignored, I assumed I needed to repair permissions on my system files. When something isn't working as it should, then it's my understanding that in all likelihood permissions are out of kilter. The Software Update process somehow managed to alter some of my permissions, and again, as I understand it, this is a matter that should be suspected after any software installation.
So I ran Disk Utility to repair permissions.
With Leopard, Disk Utility's repair process runs differently from the way it did in Tiger.
Under Leopard, Disk Utility's repair permissions routine presents a funny user interface. At the outset of the repair process, it ain't exactly clear that anything is really happening even though the repairs are indeed underway.
First thing DU does when the repair process starts is show you a blue progress bar and words to the effect that the process will require about 1 minute more. Then that blue bar sits there doing nothing whatsoever in terms of measuring progress - until about five minutes have passed. During this 5 minute hiatus, DU is building its own permissions data base which it will subsequently use to do its repair work.
Once the permissions data base is constructed, DU's progress bar will suddenly come alive again to show about fifteen minutes longer to complete the repair process. That fifteen minute item changes rapidly from then on, with all repairs being completed in just about five minutes more. (DU took altogether about ten minutes to do its repair thing under Leopard on my computer.)
DU will show you a list of permission faults that it finds, with the ones it can fix, repaired. You may, according to Apple, safely ignore faults listed involving "SUID" or "ACL". (With 10.5.2, the "SUID" faults appear to have stopped showing up but the "ACL" faults continue to be presented on my computer.)
If you have any wonderment about Disk Utility being at work when it appears that it is hung up for about five minutes, then open your Activity Monitor (AM) and select the CPU column. You'll be able to watch DU's use of the CPU while it is building the permissions data base. When DU's CPU usage ceases, you'll find that your permissions have been repaired. You can keep both DU and AM windows open on your monitor if you wish to suffer along with this sort of discombobulation.
After repairing permissions, I rebooted to find my screensaver password once again being called for as it should.Okay, just a little update.
I added the replica server to the "Authentication" search in the Directory Utility, right after the OD Master.
I have also added it to the search path in the Workgroup Manager on my 10.4.11 server, and authenticated. Sees it just fine.
Now, when I fake a failure of the Master, (IE, shut it down), it just hangs forever, and doesn't timeout and move on to the replica.
Am I missing something? Isn't this the point of a replica?
Help?
Thanks!
