how?using terminal?what line command?
thanks for the help

Hi, christian.
Quartz Desktop will enable you to use the Apple-provided screen savers that are Quartz Compositions as a desktop. That page also has links to other Quartz Composition screen savers.
Some of these applications will let you use a movie as your desktop.
Some of these applications will let you use movies as screen savers. In particular, Movie Screen Saver appears both popular and highly-rated.
I've not tried any of them, so let the user-submitted reviews be your guide.
When looking for new applications, I recommend searching MacUpdate or Version Tracker. The user-submitted reviews accompanying the listings are helpful in sorting the wheat from the chaff.
Good luck!

  • Desktop background changes when I change the user

The background changes from solid dark grey to solid dark aqua blue, when I make a quick user change. It happens automatically. Even when both desktops have the same (dark grey) background. This is a mess. Is it a bug?

that usuall happens when you are not connected to the internet. if you were running wifi your connection could have been lost for a moment and then recovered.

  • Screensaver and desktop background preference will not open at all???????

My preference wont open what do I do to fix this issue???

Firefox keeps that info in a separate folder called your "profile". It's possible that a new profile was created. But does your original still exist? Try starting Firefox in the profile manager to see if there are other profiles listed. See [[Managing profiles]]

  • Desktop & Screensaver - Secondary desktop window freezes

I recently connected my macbook air to an external monitor and everything was running fine, until I tried to change the background on the external display. Before it first happened, I was able to browse through the pre-installed apple desktop backgrounds, but when I chose a folder containing my photos, the window froze. Now every time I reopen the secondary display window, it freezes as soon as it opens. If i unplug the monitor and reopen Desktop & Screensaver, it works just fine.

I hope that is not your
    solution.
    Shut down and reboot?
Its ok , Thanks for trying .
I found the solution on another website.
The answer is going to FInder
    then GO TO
and going to the library and deleting

    restart and issue will dissapear

  • Desktop Background on a per Desktop basis?

Anyone else seeing this since 10.7.3.
I went into System Preferences->Desktop & Screen Saver and chnaged the desktop background. When I looked at all my desktops only the desktop I was in when I made the change was actually changed.
I'm sure prior to 10.7.3 the change affected all desktops.  Or am I having a senior moment?

    Hi John,
    Sorry, but I don't believe that's possible.

  • Desktop background disappears, Mission Control doesn't work correctly

Sometimes it happens that my desktop background completely dissappears, and Mission Control stops working as well.
It seems to happen when I open a new window in a fullscreen app (like Safari), and while it's opening I switch to another space.
Whenever this happens, my desktop changes to the Dashboard background, and Mission Control doesn't show the other spaces anymore (but you can see active windows in your main space). I've added pictures below.
I can still swipe between spaces, my dock still works and all apps still work in all spaces.
Any way to fix this without rebooting? To avoid this happening (apart from me being more patient)?
This is my desktop at the moment:
    And this is Mission Control:
I am using: Macbook Pro 5,4
    OS X 10.7.1
2,53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

I am experiencing the same thing as most of us, exactly as explained by - Acid_Raccoon.
UK-Max - This is not just a specific problem involving external screens. The dissappearing wallpaper, and loss of function of mission control (do not show spaces, but you can click in empty area where it should be located and it actually works as normal) occurs also when there is no
external screen input involved - You have to restart computer for it to return to normal. As a matter of fact, I am experiencing it right now for the 10th time in 1 week period, and it´s quite annoying. I would guess more than just a few people are experiencing this, and as postmechanical mentioned about having a brand new computer - this shouldn´t occur, and if so should get a fix immediately.
Over time, I have experiencing other system problems produced from installing OS lion. Sure it deliver a few smart, and smooth features, but since more and more bugs are discovered (and not fixed by apple), I am considering returning to snow leopard. For instance, sometimes when my computer goes into screensaver, it can shift to a picture of pixels (black&white) in 4:3 screen ration. This has never occurred before installing Lion. Another thing which is extremely annoying is that since installing lion, my computer refuses to go to sleep when I close my lid. Nothing happens, and it just stays on. I have to manually select in apple-menu to sleep.
I really hope Apple take these notes people have mentioned in this forum (and others) seriously, and fix them. I really hope Apple show more custumer service-spirits, than Apple´s lack of hardware-quality. (I have owned 4 apple computers(1 powerbook G4, 1 macbook & 2 macbook pro), brand new, and 3 of them have experienced hardware-failure on more than one occasion in less than a year. The one that didnt required service was my powerbook G4 titanium, released in 2001, and kept going for 4 years straight without any problems.) (Actually, the last one experienced 3 times in-a-row mother-card failure). I only go for Apple´s products due to its smart and clean features (and seriously PC is not an alternative if you want to stay mentally healthy), but what I´ve been reading on multiple forums over the web, more than a few, experience occuring hardware problems with their Apple computer.
I guess this is the result of Apple trying to push for higher revenues. If Apple keep go in the same directions as it has been doing in the last 4-5 years it will be its doom, and loose the customers that once caught the Apple-wave due to it´s innovative and personal aspect, but most important - it´s superiour quality it once had! Apple´s products is quite expensive, and thus should be combined with its smart and innovative system, along with lasting quality. But if $ revenue is the only thing that keep Apple going nowdays, and produce smart product that is meant to last for only 2-3 years maximum, it is deeply disturbing and the company will loose track of what stevie was initially producing - clean, smooth system (just works, no migraine), with everlasting quality far seen in PC-world. Apple - please consider !

  • Desktop background shuffle stops working

Desktop background shuffle stops working after a while. I had the same problem with 7 preview and now with 7 Ultimate RTM 64bit clean install the same issues and I can't figure it out why. If I use the same set of photos on my Mac shuffle works fine.

    Hi Dariusz Stochmal,
Before moving on, could you please help to clarify the following factors?
    -       Is the issue that the background slide show works, however, the slide show shuffle stops working which displays the background pictures in order?
    -       Could you please let me know when the issue occurs? Does it occur after using certain software, changing some settings or installing something?
In the meantime, let's try the following suggestions to check the result.
First, if there is any the Desktop or wallpaper software installed, please remove it.
Second, please test the issue in Clean Boot. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue.
However, if the issue persists, you can also test the issue in a new user account. To do this, please go to Control Panel -> View by: Category -> Add or remove user accounts -> Create a new account. Please see if the issue occurs in this user account. If not, we can transfer the personal files to this account to resolve the issue.
    Hope it helps.
    Regards,
    Linda

Application "FINDER"not responding,Desktop files disappeared & " also "Trash" not working svn after relaunching several times.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process (Finder) in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Desktop background stops functioning when switchiing monitors

Thanks, apple forums - you archived my thread before it was solved!
I have an original Core Duo Macbook Pro 17" with 10.6.2, and an external Samsung 1600x1200 LCD.
When at home, I use the built-in 1680x1050 LCD for working. When at work, I keep the lid closed and plug in my 1600x1200 LCD using DVI.
There are three problems that occur when switching monitors:
    1. All desktop icons disappear. No context menu appears with right click. No selection rectangle appears when dragging. This occurs 20% of the time.
    2. Desktop icons move approx 200 pixels right and/or down from their original locations. The selection rectangle does not appear under the mouse cursor but is also shifted by around 200 pixels right and/or down. I can double click on icons but I have to click 200 pixels up/left from where they appear on the screen. This occurs the other 80% of the time.
    3. Mouse cursor is heavily corrupted - it shows up as a random block of pixels approx 100 pixels wide and 20 pixels high. Mouse pointer will come back if I hover over an area of text, for example in Mail. This occurs randomly, around 50% of the time.
To fix 1 and 2, I can do a "killall Finder" from a Terminal.
If I have a web browser open when I switch monitors, the mouse location is incorrectly read and I have to close the window to correct this (i.e. when moving the mouse cursor down a drop-down box, the highlighted item is about 200 pixels down from the cursor location).
It seems to me that there is some code in OS X that is broken when switching between primary monitors that are different resolutions. I'm looking to buy a new Mac but I won't be interested until this problem is fixed since this affects my daily work.
    Thanks.

The problem occurs with any monitor a different native resolution to the MacBook Pro's built-in 1680x1050 panel.
The problem does not show up if the externel panel is connected before cold-booting the computer because the nature of the problem is that the problem occurs when changing monitors. I will connect the externel panel before coming out of sleep, or disconnect after going to sleep.

  • Desktop Backgrounds not working properly in Aperture/Mountain Lion

If I set my desktops with the default Apple backgrounds, all works well.  I can log out and back in and the backgrounds are retained.
If I use the "change desktop background" dialogue box and set the backgrounds to photos from the Aperture library, when I log out and back in, all the backgrounds have reverted to the standard Mountain Lion background.
If I open Aperture (in Desktop 2) and select a photo, I can do File/Share/Set desktop and that will change Desktop 2 (but none of the other desktops) to the current image.  THEN if I restart, desktop 2 will have retained the background I've chosen.
I've spoken to the Apple tech support, but only the Mountain Lion people can help me.  They tried repairing permissions, terminal commands and all sorts but it didn't work.
The guy on Aperture support sent me some standard articles but nothing specific, and as my copy of Aperture is more than 90 days old he can't help any further.  I am running the latest version, 3.3.2.  I've done all the basics like rebuilding the library and repairing permissions etc... I've deleted the aperture preference file, and the desktop preference file.  All to no avail.
    Anyone help?  Please!
    Thanks,
    Mark

Success!  Well sort of.  I went into Mission Control Preference Pane (in System Preferences) and fiddled about with a few ticks. The one that seemed to make the difference was the one called Show Dashboard As A Space.  Make sure it's ticked.  This is a bit of a bummer if you want multiple desktops with different personalised photo backgrounds but you don't want the dashboard as a space.  It's still a fault Apple! So if someone finds this solved their issues then please don't mark the post as "this solved my problem", maybe just "this helped".
Because the issue is not resolved for those who don't want the dashboard as a space - those people can only have Apple's own backgrounds on their desktops!  And it is worth point out that without the Show Desktop As Space box ticked, even with Mission Control set to just one background, the Aperture photo would not be reatained through log out and restart etc. AND the actual Desktop/Screen Saver preference dialogue box didn't work properly, taking ages to select a picture and the picture not changing on the background itself until the user threatens to exit the box.  As I say though it all went swimmingly with the Show desktop as space box ticked.
Dear oh dear Apple, with every step "forward" you take there's always the odd lurch backwards into the murky days of Windows 1.0!

  • Video Desktop Background or Screensaver?

    Hello,
Can I put a video (such as something from iMovie) and set it as a desktop background, and just loop the video? Is this also achievable as a screensaver? There is a widget that will make your screensaver as a desktop background, so either option would get the job done.
    Thanks.
    C h r i s t o p h

I think it is possible, but VERY tricky.
First, you would have to find a screensaver online that is a video (it would have to contain a ".qtz" animation), then you would replace the .qtz animation with a file YOU create, and convert to .qtz (which I'm not sure can be done). Apart from that, there is no other way that I know of.
    Good luck!

Drag applications from your main desktop off the right side of the screen and they will appear on the TV.  This is the extended desktop mode.

  • I have just clicked on my iTunes desktop icon and got the following message "The file iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Why has this occurred when it working fine?

I have just clicked on my iTunes desktop icon and got the following message "The file iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Why has this occurred when it working fine? Is it best to update iTunes to 10.2 to attempt to resolve? Initially I got the prompt Quicktime was out of date so I updated that successfully in all programs. I do not want to lose my iTunes library.

Sorted problem updated and reinsatlled and restarted computer.

  • When I create an album and then try to watch it in slideshow, I get only a black screen with a white title.  No photos come up.  Also when I click on an individual photo in the album, I get a white exclamation point on a black background but no big photo.

When I create an album of photos and then open the album and try to watch it by selecting "slideshow" I get only a black screen.  The white title comes up briefly but then no photos, only a black screen.  Also when I go back to the album and click on a thumbnail, up comes a big white exclamation point on a black background instead of the enlarged photo.  Any idea what's going on?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
