Screensaver/power saver not functioning...

I've noticed recently that my screensaver/power saver is not staying on.  It will go into power saver mode and immediately come out of it without me or anyone else pressing a keyboard button or moving the mouse.  I thought this might be a keyboard malfunction, so I powered off the keyboard.  This worked for a while, but then the power saver went off again; this time, since the keyboard was off, the bluetooth function was searching for a keyboard.  I'm guessing this whole issue is somehow related to the keyboard.  Anyone with any advice on how to proceed?

I have been having similar issues with the power button on my powerbook as well. When I press the power button (or any of the function keys) I get a blue screen for a few seconds and all open applications quit running. Nothing works when I use the apple drop down menu either.
Have you been able to solve the problem yet? If so, please post your advice. Do you think it is a short, or maybe an overheating problem?

  • 6233 - Power Saver not working

    Hi
I've just upgraded to the 6233. Most things seem to be fine apart from the fact that the power save function doesn't seem to work.
I have turned power save on, but when I leave the phone alone for a while all it does is dim the screen. I don't get the normal blank screen with just the clock on it.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello
I noticed exactly the same problem: Some times the screensaver (not animated) would come on, followed by a completely blank screen - this is what I want to see. Other times, the screensaver would not come on and the screen would not blank out (only the backlight switches off), resulting in quicker battery draining. The only way that I could find so far to work around this problem is to reboot the phone.
I have firmware version 3.70 and will upgrade to 4.52 later today. I really like this phone in terms of build quality and general features, and imho it would be a real winner if these little niggly problems are sorted out.

  • Tecra M5 - Toshiba Power Saver not doing its job properly

    Hi,
After looking for some time for a tool to silence my Tecra M5 I found a seemingly nice app called Toshiba Power Saver. Unfortunately this tool doesn't seem to be working properly. I played with the [Cooling Method slider|http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/8008/powersaver.jpg] (click to see an image) and here is how it works.
The Cooling Method can be set to one of four options: Battery Optimized, Performance, Maximum Performance, and Cooling Optimized, where the first one is supposed to be the quietest, and the other ones more and more noisy.
Let's assume that the cpu fan is initially spinning at a high speed and I'm not doing anything on my laptop. I move the slider to Battery Optimized setting, click on Apply and the fan (instantaneously) slows down (yay!). Then I need to do something power hungry for a moment and eventually the fan spins up to the noisy level. I then do nothing at all again but the fan stays like that *forever*. The cpu is as cold as ice, the air being blown out could freeze your fingers, but the fan is spinning like crazy waking up my neighbours across the road.
Am I really sure the cpu is cool? Yes. Why?
Because when I move the slider to Performance setting now and click Apply the fan slows down (right away) and stays like that until I start working on something again. Then I stop doing what I was doing and the fan keeps spinning *forever* again.
So then I change the Cooling Method to Battery Optimized setting back again, click on Apply and the fan slows down.... and so on and so on, stuck in the vicious circle.
The key to the success here is keeping pressing the Apply button, which the Power Saver application should be doing from time to time and not me, and not forgetting what it's here for.
What's wrong with that app? Is there any fix available (or an alternative)?
The version I have is 7.11 and runs under XP Pro SP3.

    Hi Feliks,
Thank you for your reply. I have a Tecra M5 notebook not a Portege, though.
Unfortunately I cannot agree with most of what you have said. Either there is something wrong or this software is just useless. It is quite unlikely that there is something wrong as I had exactly the same laptop before and it was as noisy. That to me would be too much of a coincidence.
Before then I had a dual core notebook with Philips sticker on it (and that was all Philips's input) in even smaller enclosure (12") and no fancy software in it. In that laptop the fan was running once every several minutes while idle and as soon as it cooled down the cpu it stopped - a complete silence. And this is how it should be. I've just read a review of one HP laptop: "During normal use I almost never hear the hard drive or the fan. In fact the fan really only comes on when playing games." I'd like mine to be like that too.
Here I play music in Winamp at the processor speed set to 1 (out of 6, lower means slower) and cooling set to a quiet setting (after help: "The system is cooled by slowing CPU speed, and the fan is started only when neccesary."), and after the fan starts it then never (I don't exaggerate here) stops spinning and eventually keeps blowing out cool air. The CPU usage varies between 0 and 5%. I mean, that's not normal to me. My phone can do the same job and it doesn't have a fan at all. Not to mention that Intel CPUs will not let themselve get fried. So why?
I sold the mentioned Philips laptop to move on to some decent brand and I am *very* disappointed. It's a shame, as this particualar model would be perfect for me, I like everything about it, but the noise is just unbearable, it's embarassing to take this machine to a library. And the software... well, I will stop here and wait for some other Tecra M5 users to share their experience.
In the meantime I'll try with Toshiba support, as you advised.
    Thanks!

  • E5 Screensaver / Power saver mode

I recently got a e5 and was browsing the Ovi store and download a screen saver to see what it looked liked. After about 10sec I realized it was dumb and removed it. After a few seconds of inactivity my phone would go black and the screen saver would show. I looked all around and couldn't give a "screen saver" setting, just something called "power saver mode". Adjusting this I found out it was tied to when the screen saver would turn on. Still unable to remove this, I thought I might still be in the memory and turn the phone off and back on. Bingo, it worked. The screen saver didn't pop up. I now noticed that when the screen goes black, It now shows me the date and time for a few seconds, in random spots. Is there settings for this somewhere, static location, redisplay when you press a key, turn off, etc. ?

Some machines have the option to turn energy save mode off and others don't.
What model of printer do you have?
I do work for HP Printer Support, however my comments/advice are mine alone.

  • Power button not functioning well

van any one give solution tothis problem.  my laptop show blank screen although led lights are on in batery. with external power also fisrt pres same thning happen but upon hard reset and putting on again it starts normally. waht is the problem and solution to this problem. nay on please help me

Amazing how people areover reacting... think guys for god sake! Why do you think the button doesnt click? yeah right!!! because there is rubber under it! Why? to make the device waterproof.
Offcourse it doesnt make the sound or give the same feedback a button gives on a not waterproof smartphone.
One advise if you really hate it. and i do too because it feals like the button will stop working any minute. you enable the double tap function on the screen to wake the device. If you install Lock screen by Go launcher EX you can put a button on the homescreen to shutdown the screen. This way you wil never have to press the power button except when you need to reboot or power down the device.

  • Photo Screen Saver not functioning with Yosemite Upgrade

Recently I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Yosemite. I have always used a folder in iPhoto for my screen saver via system preferences. Ever since the upgrade this folder will no longer function as the screen saver.  The screen saver option in System Preferences always defaults to Apples National Geographic photos that is installed with Yosemite. After I select the folder I want I "preview" the screen saver and my photos are there. Once the screen saver kicks itself in, the NG photos are there and the system settings are back to NG photos and not my photos. Now, I will admit the NG photos are far above my photos, but I really prefer my photos. Is Apple evaluating photo quality on the screen savers? Kidding - any ideas?
    Scott

    I have the same issue.
Try this. I think this has worked for me. Only time will tell.

Close all windows and quit all applications.
Hold the option key down and click the "Go" menu in the Finder menubar.
Select "Library" from the dropdown, then "Preferences" folder.
    Look for these two files.
    com.apple.desktop.plist
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Right click each  one of those and select " Move To Trash" from the contextual menu.
    Restart the computer.

  • Power button not functioning

My power button doesn't respond whenever I click it. Instead, the volume up button does so.

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
Are there not any reaction at all if you press and/or hold the ON/OFF button down? If not, it sounds more related to a hardware problem that a technician at an authorized service center needs to examine and fix.
Thereby, I suggest that you visit nearest service center to have the phone examined by a technician. You can contact your local support team for further information about nearest service center and/or how to proceed with this in the best possible way:

  • Bbz10 power button not function

I own bbz10 nearly 2 months now, but since last week power button started not responsed, I tried to restore about 3 times already, same things keep occured. Need solution desperately. Thx

If you tried to restore your phone, and by that I assume you mean either battery pulls and/or factory reset, and it still doesn't work, it sounds like a hardware issue for which you would have to talk to T-Mobile.  We can only advise on software issues here, we can't fix anything related to hardware.
    I hope that helps you.

  • Cinema Display Power Button Not Functional

The power button on my cinema display does nothing when pressed. The other button on the display (display preferences button) does work as expected. I have confirmed that the 'Disable power button' is not selected in the display settings panel.
The button glows brighter when I press it, but nothing else happens.
I would like to be able to start up and shut down my computer with this button since my bluetooth keyboard cannot do it, and I keep my laptop shut when it is connected to the external display.
I was just given this display, so I do not know if has ever worked.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Ron,
Possibly a daft question but do have either of the Cinema Display's USB or firewire cables plugged into your G4 as well as the DVI connection? This may sound obvious but I couldn't get the buttons on my 20" ACD to work until I plugged the USB connection into my Macbook.

  • Toshiba Power Saver fatal error 0x51A on Satellite M115-S3094

    Hello,
By the subject, the problem is there. Unfortunately, my computer which is the Toshiba M115-S3094, just recently had a Fatal Error with the Toshiba Power Saver program like 3 days ago. The Toshiba Power Saver not only does not want to work, but it no longer even shows on the taskbar.First, I went to the Power Properties to restore the proram, but to no avail.
Then, I tried uninstalling and subsequently re-installing the program and it still gave me the same problem with the Error: The program will be terminated. Fatal Error 0x51A. So right now, my laptop is not running on the Toshiba Power Scheme but on the common Windows scheme, like Presentation or Portable Laptop.
So I need help to restore the Toshiba Power Saver. I run the Toshiba M115-S3094 with Windows Media Center Edition.

    Hi
The Satellite M115 seems to be a Toshiba US notebook because of the 5 at the end of the number.
In this case you should use the Toshiba power saver from the Toshiba US site. Did you???
Maybe you have used the right Power saver utility, so possibly some registry or any system files keys are damage in such case the new OS installation from the Toshiba recovery CD would be advisable.

  • My Andoid Devices wil not wake up my printer from Power Save Mode

I have an HP LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276nw istalled as a wireless network printer. I have various computers with XP and Windows 8 operating systems that wake up  the printer from Power Save mode without problems. I also can print wirelessly from my Windows 8 phone. The problem arises when I try to print from my Android devices. I have installed the HP All-In-One Remote App from the Android Store and they seem to have installed correctly. They recognise the network printer, tell me that it is Power Save mode but are unable to wake it up. Can anyone help with this one please?
The Andoid version on the Tablet is 4.2.2
    This question was solved.

Hello Jerends and thank you for your attention to my printer problem. My printer already has a fixed IP address so no need to go down that road. I managed to get around the problem by deleting the HP All in One App from my Android devices and replacing it with the HPePrint App. It's not perfect but does the job.
    Thanks again.

  • Save AS Function Not working properly

    Hi,
I have a weird problem in Adobe Acrobat 7.1. under Windows 7 (64 bit version).
When i open a document i often want to Save it with the SAVE AS  function as a different name. To simplify the explenation , this is what i  do :
    1) Open pdf (either from local drive or internet)
    2) Click SAVE AS
    3) Browse to the location where you want to save the file.
    3) Then i click an existing Filename and change e.g. the last digit. e.g. if TEST.pdf exists i click it, edit it and change it to TEXT2.pdf.
Now i always get the answer : Do you want to overwrite TEST.pdf. It never shows TEST2.pdf.
I tried this for locally stored pdf, internet downloaded pdf's.... It always wants to overwrite the original file.
ANYBODY any clue what this problem could be and how to solve it ?
    Greetings,

    Hi,
Yes, typing a new name works. But, not selecting first an old name and then
retyping to a new name. That will not work.
    Greetings,

  • Aspire V3-571 not providing connected signal to monitor in power save

I recently reconfigured a number of my systems, and ended up with an Acer monitor on my Acer Aspire - the monitor had previously been used with a Dell laptop. You would think two Acer products would work better together, but it's actually slightly worse. When an external monitor is used with VGA, there are three states: the computer is driving video down the wire, the cable is connected but the computer is not sending video, and cable disconnected. The monitor can recognize these states and behave accordingly. The middle state, when the computer is either in power save mode or turned off, is the problem. In such a case, the monitor should simply blank the screen and go into its own power save mode - which it did with my Dell. With the Aspire, the monitor goes into disconnected cable mode (where it displays a moving error message forever) as soon as power save kicks in and the laptop stops sending video. This is no big deal when the laptop is off, since I can just turn off the monitor and save some electricity. But it's really annoying when the computer is on. This is especially true since this same monitor worked perfectly well with the Dell laptop. So the Acer machine is not providing a "proper" signal for some reason. My question is - does anyone know of some configuration option on the Aspire that will cause it to send a signal that the monitor will recognize as power save when the laptop is in that state - or off? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Good suggestion about checking for new drivers - always useful. Alas, there were none, but it did give me a chance to revisit the VESA DPMS spec that governs such things. Described well here:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VESA_Display_Power_Management_Signaling I had forgotten that there were two intermediate levels (HSYNC on VSYNC off and the opposite). Obviously On and Off are seen by the monitor, with the latter interpreted as cable disconnect. I just don't seem to get one of the other states from the Aspire like I did from the Dell. The Intel HD4000 chipset in the Aspire claims to support DPMS, it just isn't working the way it worked with the Dell. That machine uses an older Intel graphics chipset. Once I had an oscilloscope in my garage and I could have looked at the pins to see what is being sent to the connector. No longer. I guess I just live with this unless a new driver shows up, or someone comes up with another solution.
