Screensaver starts while its already running

Okay heres the situation, when I need to lock my macbook because I'm leaving or whatever I like to set the screensaver to start because It looks nice and it has the password protection screen, What I did to start it up from a hotkey is have Quicksilver startup the .app in the frameworks at cmd+L, but in my screensaver settings the screensaver is setup to start at 5 minutes inactivity, what happens is that when i start up the screen saver from the hotkey, after 5 minutes the screensaver starts again and they both keep flickering trying to get on top of each other, Can I keep both settings but make it so that the screensaver knows its already started and thus won't start again, This might be a bug or something with leopard

I sort of figured out a better way to phrase this, whats the best way to invoke the screensaver from quicksilver?

    <u>'''Safe Mode'''</u>
You may need to use '''[[Safe Mode]]''' (click on "Safe Mode" and read) to localize the problem. Firefox SafeMode is a diagnostic mode that disables extensions and some other features of Firefox. If you are using a theme, switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes before starting Safe Mode. When entering Safe Mode, do not check any items on the entry window, just click "Continue in Safe Mode". Test to see if the problem you are experiencing is corrected.
    See:
    '''[[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]'''
    '''[[Troubleshooting plugins]]'''
    '''[[Basic Troubleshooting]]'''
If the problem does not occur in Safe-mode then disable all of your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears. You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via File > Restart Firefox (on Mac: Firefox > Quit). You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window.

  • Screensaver starts while while watching Quicktime Movies

We've got kind of aproblem with my friend's eMac 1.25:
The screensaver starts while while watching Quicktime movies.
Does anyone know why this happens (without putting the mouse in the "screensaver-corner"!)?

I didn't try it with iMovie, but this must be the same problem. And it is only a problem with the eMac, not with my iMac (G4 or G5 doesn't matter).
Changing the perfs for the screensaver to 2 hours or never isn't really the solution, because I'd like the screensaver to do his job, when the Mac is not in use (but don't like him when the Mac is in use)...

It would appear that the corrupted script files are sessionstore.js or prefs.js.

  • Mac Mini - Screensaver starting on its own and clock is fast ...

    Hi there experts ....
I've got a 4 month old Mac mini
    Model Identifier: Macmini3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.53 GHz
I've noticed for the past couple of months the clock is 4 minutes fast ....
And the screeensaver is coming on by itself out of nowhere ...
I/ve run disk repair ... Maintenance ... put screensaver to never and even disabled front row screensaver
I've reset pram and nvram ... ANy clues ....?

So even if you put the screensaver to never it still starts on its own?
Also you clock runs faster by 4mins?
I smell an OS issue. Partition your drive and install a fresh OS onto it. If it works(no problem there) then restore the partition into 1 drive. Zero out the drive and put a fresh OS in it
    **back it up first
If the fresh OS on the new partition still fails. it could be a hardware failure.

  • Firefox will not open and states that its already running. But is not?

After several opening and closing of Firefox several time it will not open when I click on the desk top icon. A screen will come up that Firefox is already running and that I will have to close it before I can start Firefox. To correct this I have to restart the computer. It will then work ok for a few time but will then not start again.

  • Screensaver starts while watching a DVD!

Is there any way to stop the screensaver activating while watching a DVD in DVD Player... besides disabling the screensaver altogether?
I wouldn't normally use a screensaver at all, but my Mac MIni is connected to a plasma TV, and I just want to make sure I don't get any burned in images if I accidentally left it on for a while.

    Virgule wrote:
I do not know a solution to the DVD Player issue but I may have a workaround for you.
Disable screen saver altogether and use Energy Saver's "Put the display(s) to sleep..." instead.
It will have the side effect of saving on your power bills
The last time I checked (on Tiger) this doesn't work very well for Plasma TVs (the screen goes to sleep fine, but doesn't wake up), but I'll give it another go.

Sounds like Firefox is "hanging at exit". That problem is frequently caused by an Extension or a Plugin. Read all of the following articles.<br /><br />

  • When trying to open an external link like updating a program firefox says its already running but is not responding how do I fix this?

Basically when I try to update Ccleaner or any other program tries to open a link it shows this error message. Like when I try to start BF3 from origin It shows the error message so I have to open battlelog by typing it into the browser. I dont recall me having this issue on my windows 7 64 bit laptop, but on my windows 7 32 bit desktop I have the problem. Any and all help is appreciated.

Make sure that you do not start Firefox with the -no-remote switch or have set the environment variable MOZ_NO_REMOTE=1 (Control Panel > System > Advanced > Environment variables).

  • Why won't my screensaver start?

    I'm running Yosemite 10.10.2 on an iMac Retina 5K 27-inch, Late 2014.
I have my screensaver set to start after 5 minutes. The library of photos is a folder 10Gb in size with 5500 photos in it.
I have energy saver set to turn the screen off at 20 minutes.
The screen goes off at 20 minutes but the screensaver never starts at 5 minutes. I've timed it to 10+ minutes making sure I do not touch the keyboard or the trackpad and the screensaver never starts. The system preference previews just fine. It does take a while to load but that's understandable. I have a hot corner set for the screensaver. If I move the pointer to that corner, the screensaver starts just fine and runs until the screen turns off.
    Am I missing something?

  • "installation already running" error

i have just got a iphone, and to get it to wrk i have to upgrade my itunes/quicktime and safari to the latest versions. but when i click to update i get errors coming up saying its already running somewhere else and i have to close it down to continue with the current install but i can t see anywhere where this is running. on the itunes update screen i get a little red error icon nxt to each of the updates and at the end says i have to manually download it but again i get the same error message........ im tearing my hair out over this.it must be a simple fix that im not seeing as i can install other programs fine. please has anyone had this problem and found a solution?

Look in the event viewer - does it tell you what is trying to install?
You could also make sure the installer is set to manual, not automatic.
    go to start > run
type in services.msc and hit enter
scroll down to Windows Installer Service
Right click on it and go to properties
    Then set it to Manual
I'd tell you to download and run the microsoft uninstaller utility, but you'd just get the same error that another install is in progress ; (
