Screensaver won't work

i downloaded a free james dean screensaver that is supposed to work with macs. it goes on my desktop, but when i go under screensavers, it wont open. when i open the desktop folder it says that there is nothing in there in terms of pictures. help!
its .exe, if that helps at all.

In regards to screensavers, not sure where you've looked, but because I don't own a Mac to try things out with myself, here's a list of sites that'll hopefully find you something.

Album Art screensaver won't work w/iTunes 9

I just updated to iTunes 9 and now my screensaver won't work. I use the standard Apple iTunes artwork screensaver. It say "You're iTunes library does not contain any songs with artwork". Any ideas? I closed iTunes, reopened it, restarted it. Obviously all my songs and artwork are still here.

I was having the same problem and think I have a solution. Our iTunes folder is in our shared folder not in the original music folder.
My wife was charging her iPod and left the computer running when I noticed the album artwork screensaver displaying proudly. On a hunch I compared our iTunes folders in our Music Folder (~/music/itunes) and noticed I had an extra "iTunes music" folder within. Since my music is stored elsewhere it was empty. I believe the screen saver was searching this empty folder for artwork. I moved it to the trash and started the screen saver preference and lo and behold it now works.
Please check the folder for content before deleting it. For me it was empty. My daughter had the same issues also and trashing this file worked.

Slideshow screensaver won't work/locks system

When I try to make a slideshow screensaver it locks up System Preferences and then the whole computer. I have to use the on/off button to force quit it. It won't show the option to use subfolders to make a screensaver slideshow like it did before I updated from Snow Leopard. It worked then but since I updated to Mountain Lion 10.8.3 it's stopped working. Ironically this is one of the bugs 10.8.3 is supposed to fix. It's very frustrating and I can't find anything on the web to help me. Any ideas?

Screensaver won't work in windows 8

I have tried to get any screensaver to work in windows 8 and don't know what the problem is. I select any one of them, preview them, set time and turn each on but none of them respond and screen just goes blank when screensaver should kick in. I
am using IE 10. I have tried all maintenance troubleshooting options but nothing comes up. Has anyone had this problem and know what is causing the problem and know how I can get this feature working properly again?

IE 10 should not affect the screensaver.
I suggest to boot with Clean Boot for test:

If the issue persists, try to create another administrator account and login to see if the same issue occurs.

I installed iTunes and now my screensaver won't work. Windows 7. I have uninstalled iTunes and all the extras that came with it.

You could try this...
Triple click anywhere in the line below to select it and press Ctrl+C to copy it.
cmd /k assoc .scr scrfile
Press the WinLogoKey+R to open the run dialog, then Ctrl+V to paste, then press enter/return.
In principle that should restore the correct file association for screensaver files.

Display on new MBP goes dim and screensaver won't work

Hi Folks-
I just got a new MBP and I'm having a couple of problems with the display.
1. The display goes to a dim condition when the MPB is idle. The slider under displays is all the way up and I turned the ambient light setting off. I get brightness back when Igo into displays and clickon the slider, but that is difficult to navigate on a dark screen and time consuming.
2. The screen saver just plain doesn't work. The computer starts the screen saver and then it jumps back with a flash and strange grid pattern, eventually settling on the screen where it had been. Then it will flash the grid pattern about every 30 seconds. It is very irritating to have this flash out of the corner of my eye.
Any suggestions folks?

Dock spaces desktop picture screensaver all crashed and won't work

The Dock doesn't appear.
Spaces is greyed out and won't stay enabled.
Desktop picture cannot be selected (stays standard blue screen).
Screensaver does not work and cannot set hot corner.
I have deleted the dock plists, restarted, repaired permissions, updated to 10.6.8, restarted again. Still no dock, no Spaces, no desktop picture change, no screensaver.
How did this begin? I had lots of large-memory apps running (eg. Photoshop, Garageband, Pages, Audacity, etc) and then there was a freeze, I can't remember which app – probably Photoshop) and I had to shutdown using the on/off button.
After that startup, all the problems were present. :-(
(I've looked at related Dock-crash posts here: I do not have installed: Parallels; Fusion.)
How do I fix these problems?

Hello, try this...
First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

Screensaver won't automatically bring up picture from my iphoto since I switched to Mountain Lion. Any suggestions on how to get it to work. My photos are located on an external hard drive that I keep connected to my laptop.

I do use an external hard drive to save all my pictures and music on that is always connected to my MacBookPro. Any suggestions what I may be doing wrong. I find it frustrating to have to set it daily as I close my computer down every night.

Back up all data.
Quit System Preferences if it's open.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/Library/Preferences/ByHost
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder should open. Inside it there should be one or more files with a long name beginning with "com.apple.screensaver." Move those files to the Trash. Set your screensaver preferences and see whether they stick.

Desktop Image and Screensaver: doesn't work

I can not change my desktop image, and my screensaver won't start.
I was playing around in Desktop Preferences tonight, setting different speeds for the iTunes Artwork screensaver to see how it'd look, and suddenly, System Preferences just crashed on me. I wasn't doing ANYTHING strange, just playing with the options of the original screensavers that came with my computer, which is brand new. I don't have any third party screensavers loaded on my machine. The desktop image was one I made myself, with Photoshop. I have absolutely no idea why it's acting this way.
Even stranger, out of curiosity, I created a second user account and tried the screen saver while logged in the second account. The screensaver worked just fine. But still nothing in my main account. Any ideas?
When I try Desktop Images and Screensaver now (within System Preferences), it CRASHES on me. I get this error message:
"The application System Preferences quit unexpectantly.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple."
If I reopen it again, I get the same thing. The second error dialog will always have the option to "try again." If I try again, I can actually open the Desktop Images and Screensavers window. I can't change anything, however. If I try changing something, I get the following message:
"System Preferences -- New Settings
New settings have been created for this application. Do you wish to use these settings from now on?"
With two buttons for yes or no. However, no matter which button I select, I get the same results.
I've run OSX through Jaguar and Panther, so it's not like I'm a new user who just clicked the wrong thing. I'm seriously stumped here. Can anyone help? I'm a little worried about this.... Thanks.

THANK YOU!!!! Yes, it was the preferences in my library causing the problems. I just deleted the screensaver preferences, and that fixed all the problems, including the desktop image problem.
I also think that maybe an alarm clock program I downloaded called Aurora may have been partly to blame. I had Aurora authorized to wake my computer from sleep, even though I had password protection enabled. This might have conflicted with the screensaver somehow, dunno.... Let me know if any of you are successfully using Aurora without any problems, and I will reinstall it. But for now, that program is off my system.

An important app won't work , just shows a black screen

Ok so I've got this app called "speedbit" , which happened to be important to me @_@
anyway , it won't work , whenever I open it , it just shows the program's Logo and then directly shows a black screen

1- I did restroe my Ipod touch (3g)
2- I did reset it -.-
3- I did delete the app and re-installed it
4- I did update my Ipod (5.0)

Mosaic screensaver: Does it work through Finder?

Only just discovered the Mosaic feature. Tried setting the screensaver to that option, with my Pictures folder selected. It lets me make that selection, but then gives me a message saying my library must have 100 items. (Pictures folder has 126 items).
So question: Is it designed to work with images contained in Finder folders, or strictly for iPhoto libraries? (If the latter, it would be sensible if that was made clear in the prefpane, which it's not.)

it mostly works with iphoto. it won't work if you have less than 100 pictures in your iphoto library. if you try to run it on a folder of pictures in finder it will basically combine them with the iphoto library as follows. it will start on a picture in this folder in finder and do a mosaic using only images from iphoto ending on another picture from this folder and so on. that's how it works for me at any rate.

Front Row won't work at all

Before the latest update of "Keychain and Login" my Front Row app would work partially
with blanking out in the slideshows and movies, However now it won't work at all.
Is there a fix in the works for this problem?

Figured it out...
The "Front Row" settings were set for a screensaver, That's why the monitor kept blanking out,
I've turned off the screensaver in the settings and "Front Row" works fine now.
There is no screensaver image chosen, That's why the screen kept going blank or even off.

HP LaserJet Pro C1415fn color MFP - fax won't work

I have a LaserJet Pro CM1415fn color MFP on a Windows 7 64-bit laptop. I've been using the printer for two years now.
At the moment the fax function only works if I use it manually (i.e. if I place a sheet of paper on the scanner, select the "Fax" button on the printer touch pad and dial the number). However, if I want to send a fax via the PC interface, it won't work.
For example, if I open a PDF, click on "Print" and select "HP LaserJet Professional CM 1410 Series Fax", nothing happens -- no window/interface will open. If I select "HP Send Fax" or "HP Fax Setup Wizard" from the program menu, nothing happens.
I've always been sending faxes this way and I just don't know what happened... Can anyone please help?

I see that you can't fax from the PC anymore. I can help you with this.
If this just recently happened, I would do a System Restore back to when everything was working properly.
System Restore for Windows 7.
If you would prefer not to do the System Restore, uninstall and reinstall the printer software. It might become corrupted.
Here are the steps to run the uninstall from the computer or the CD.
To uninstall from program files:
Touch the Windows key and the E key to access the computer window.
Select the C drive.
Select program files or program files x86.
Open the HP and printer name folder.
Select uninstall.
Uninstall the software from the CD:
Touch the Windows key and the E key to access the computer window. Right click on the CD for the printer, left click open in a new window, double click on uninstall.
Disable all the start up programs and temporarily turn off the Antivirus Software. How to use MSCONFIG .
Click on the start up tab and click disable all.
Download, save and install the latest drivers.
HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fnw Color Multifunction Printer Drivers.
Test the printer and try sending a fax again from the PC.
Then you will need to go back in and enable the start up programs and turn the Antivirus Software back on again.

I have not had wifi since November when I upgraded to the newest IOS version. I called the Apple help line and they told me some things to do and I tried them all and they worked for a few hours and then wifi shut off again. I kept doing what they told me and it worked for a couple more days and then I could never turn it on again. My blue tooth doesn't work either. I had to actually increase my data usage with AT&T becuase of this. When I did that in December I went to the Apple store and was told that it is a hardware issue and since my phone is out of warranty I would have to pay for a new phone because they could not fix the issue. My upgrade isn't up until June 2014 so not only do I have to wait for the upgrade and I am not paying for a new phone but I have to pay $10 plus extra a month on my cell phone bill because I was going over on my Data!!! I have been beyond upset about this and Apple is not doing anything about this nor did they offer up some way to resolve the issue because obviously it is not just some rare incident if several people are having this issue. Who knows how many people out there have had this issue and have not said anything about it. Now there is a newer update that I can't do because it requires wifi in order to download.
June can not get here fast enough and I may not go back to Iphone after dealing with this for so long with no help from Apple.

IPhoto and Apple ID won't work after system update

I've recently updated my MacBook Air to OS X v10.9.4. iPhoto won't work as i am currently using v9.2. I've tried downloading a later version but have been advised that my Apple ID will not work on this computer. NB. I have an iPhone but have not used the Apple ID on this - to my knowledge, or another Apple ID on my system. I'm a basic level user so any advice on this would be great.
