  • IMac screensavers wakes up to frozen photo

    Hi,
Impossible to get back to my desktop as the screensavers wakes up the screen to a static photo.
Important work still going on in the backgroun.
Is rebooting my only way out or is there anything I can do to get my desktop back to the finder?
Using OS 10.6 snow leopard with 24" iMac 4 GB.
    Thanks

    Hi Linc
So, another week of troubleshooting hasn't got me too far, except that now I've confirmed that this can happen with only one user logged in, although it seems to take a lot longer before it does.
Anyway, I did try to follow the steps in those discussions you referred me to, but the instructions re starting my iMac in Safe Mode don't work for me. What I mean by this is that the computer starts to reboot in Safe Mode but after the progress bar finishes, I am always presented with my usual login screen. In other words, I never get a black screen with a cursor, but my menubar does have 'Safe Mode' displayed in red text on it.
I have also tried the Command-S startup combination to force a restart in single user mode and entered in the commands as described in the discussions. This works okay, but doesn't resolve my original 'black screen' problem.
So here I am seeking other suggestions?
    Any help is most appreciated!
    Joe.

  • Scrapbook and Snapshots screensavers no longer work after Yosemite upgrade

Upgraded to Yosemite and discovered that the Scrapbook and Snapshots screensaver modules don't work now. Here's how they appear in my screensaver preference pane:
The Scrapbook screensaver doesn't work at all; the Snapshots screensaver will load but isn't fully functional - it only displays a single photo at a time, it doesn't show the background photos any more. Snapshots was my preferred screensaver too. Any thoughts besides a clean reinstallation of Yosemite?
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)
    2.6 GHz Intel Core i5
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    500 GB Flash storage
    Intel Iris 1536 MB

I saw, from a clean install of Yosemite of a friend, that these two screensavers are not there.
Probably I have brought them back from Snow Leopard.
I would like to remove them from the list of screensaver (or recharge the list of default screensaver), you know if it is possible and how?
I thought I would delete the file screensaver.plist, but I would not combine damage.
    Thank you and hello

  • Can not resume from blanking or screensavers

    Hello,
I have filed Bug #21395, with no response or assignment of the bug since I've filed it.
    My hardware goes as follows:
Intel P4 Pro, 2.4-Ghz processor desktop PC
    1 Gb RAM
    Nvidia 7300 GT card
    Audigy 2 sound card
The issue with the bug has not decreased, but only increased with updates of xset, Xorg, Nvidia driver, etc. since I filed the bug, and it is next to impossible to resume from the blanking (that is turned completely off btw), and with dpms turned off.
I have no clue where the issue is with this; whether it is an upstream issue, or an Arch one. I am out of ideas on where to look.
If anyone has any kind of feedback on this that might help, I'd really appreciate it.
Current drivers and Xorg software installed:
    pacman -Q nvidia
    nvidia 260.19.21-1
    pacman -Q xorg-server
    xorg-server 1.9.2-1
    pacman -Q xorg-server-common

I really don't know what else I can do, other than what I've already done.
I'm sorry if this is posted in the wrong section, but I really couldn't tell where else to put it. I did search the forum, but found nothing similar. If you need any more information to help troubleshoot this, please feel free to ask. This thread may be helpful:  http://bjoernvold.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=838 - I posted it after I had turned off all screensavers.
Thank you in advance for any help that you can give, or light shed on this subject.

I've just successfully downgraded, with the exception of xorg-server-utils - it said it was tied to too many other packages to be able to downgrade. I did it in init 3, to be sure that X wasn't running as I did.

  • Can't install 3rd party screensavers

    G'day Gang,
Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I've downloaded the below trial screensavers and installed them on three different machines: My Macbook Pro (specs in signature), my iBook G4 and my parents Intel Mac Mini running Tiger. They work on the iBook and Intel Mac Mini great! But not at all on the MBP...
My MBP is running the current Leopard build and neither of the savers show up in the screensaver list in system prefs - even though they've installed correctly (and can be found in the appropriate screensaver folder in the library). I didn't try to install them prior to the 10.5.1 update so I'm not sure if that's the problem.
Fancy giving them a try and letting me know if they work? I've emailed the respective companies and they say the savers should work under Leopard. Curious.

I am a new comer to Macs and this is my first post
on this subject. I have a Mac Mini and I am trying to
install Move2Mac on this machine. I can't install
this software on this machine. The system doesn't
recognize the format and won't go any further.
Move2Mac is written for a PC, not a Mac; it needs to
be run on a PC to migrate the data.
I am also getting "can't create this file" message
when I am trying to update some of the Mac supplied
software (Comic Life). thanks for the help.
Click on the desktop and choose Get Info from the
File menu; under Ownership & Permissions, change the
settings so that you're the owner of that folder and
you have Read & Write access to it.
    (20089)
OK Niel, I did that and it says that I do have the read and write permissions. Any other things that I can check?

  • Blue desktop screen, no screensavers or desktop pix after 10.5.8 update

Immediately after updating to 10.5.8 - using the Combo updater and yes, fixing permissions before and after the update - I was brought to my familiar desktop with the standard issue blue background. I tried accessing the Desktop/Screensaver preference pane via both System Preferences and right-clicking the desktop, but selected desktop pics won't load, and screensavers fail with an error message saying:
    Can't load screen saver.
Screen saver “Cosmos” did not load properly. Please select another screen saver.
    Error: Can’t load bundle
And yes, I tried all the screensavers...
    What gives?

There's no such thing as garbage on the screen. Try to be a little bit more specific. Are you stuck at blue screen?apple and spinning gear?does it load the desktop? You can't expect an accurate answer if your explanation is VAGUE. anyway, follow the steps below as it may fix your "issue" I am not even sure what it is.
    1. Boot into safe mode (pressing shift while turning on the machine)wait until you see the Apple with spinning gear. Then let go.
    2. Once you have safe boot. Login normally. Download the 10.5.8 combo update
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
    3. Apply the update once more.
    If this fails,
    1. Boot to the install disc. Select the language
    2. Ignore the welcome screen. Choose utilities on the top
    3. Repair disc and permission DO BOTH

  • How to cancel screensavers ?? thanks a lot!

    anybody help me pls,
how to cancel "screensavers" --- this application program in solaris 2.6 open windows environment?
    thanks a lot!!

    Hi
Your question is very clear. What do you mean by "Screensavers" ? Are you referring to the Solaris screen savers that appear on the screen when you leave the system with no activity for a while or are you referring to some program called screensavers ?
In case of the first, it is very simple.
    Assuming you have Openwindow desktop,
    1. DO a click on the right mouse button in an empty area of the workapce.
    2. Select Properties
    3. Click the Category section drop down window.
    4. Select Miscellaneous
You will see that a Screen Saver On/Off button which can
be put to off or put in on "auto" with timeout minutes specified.
    Change it as you please.
If you have a CDE environment,
Just run /usr/dt/bin/dtstyle and select Screen icon.
It will show you the details of the screen saver settings.

  • Screensavers don't work after upgrade from 10.3.9

After upgrading from 10.3.9 my screensavers have not been working. Apple screensavers say looking for slides, and computer name is showing a folder icon and when selected an open file window pops up. All installed 3rd party savers working fine-

Search for "com.apple.screencapture.plist", and toss it. Restart.
In the same folder, if the above fails, look for the "ByHost" folder. Look for all the files similar to "com.apple.screensaver.000a27ae9f06.plist" that do not mention any other application. Toss those. Restart

  • A fix for screensavers that don't work with Snow Leopard?

is there a fix for the screensavers that no longer work with Snow Leopard? some of the developers have came out with new versions, but a few of them have been abandoned by their authors. Is there a way to run those screensavers in 32 bit mode?

Is there a way to run those screensavers in 32 bit mode?
Not without action by the original authors, sorry.
I know it doesn't help right now, but like all other OSs in the past, these types of things need to catch up since the bar has been raised once again...give it time and there will tons of entertaining s'savers out to pick from.

  • Some opengl screensavers not working (maybe rss-glx)

I am having a problem with some of my opengl screensavers.  The screensaver preview appears black, and when I try to test them they do not appear at all.  I think they are the rss-glx screensavers, but a couple of what I think are rss-glx screensavers work (kind of, they are very choppy).  It shouldn't be a problem, I am using the latest beta nvidia driver (190.18) and the 3D-rendered screensavers (like the ant and gear ones) work just fine, smooth even with high frame rate and lots of objects.  I am using the latest kdemod release.  My graphics card is a quadro nvs 140m.  Here is my xorg.conf (I am trying to use autodetection as much as possible, that may be the problem):
    # nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings
    # nvidia-settings: version 1.0 (buildmeister@builder62) Wed Jul 22 16:46:47 PDT 2009
    Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "X.org Configured"
    Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
    EndSection
    Section "Files"
    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/"
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device0"
    Driver "nvidia"
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen0"
    Device "Device0"
    DefaultDepth 24
    Option "TwinView" "1"
    Option "metamodes" "DFP-0: 1680x1050 +1440+0, DFP-1: 1440x900 +0+150"
    SubSection "Display"
    Depth 24
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
And my output from glxinfo | grep rendering is "direct rendering: Yes"
I have tried it both before and after running rss-glx_install.pl as both user and root.
    Anyone have any ideas?

I did some more testing.  Two examples of specific screensavers that do not work are cyclone and euphoria (I have two copies of this one, neither work), both in the opengl group.  When the screensaver is started by running its executable, such as running /usr/bin/euphoria, it works fine.  However, the preview in the screensaver system settings area only shows a black box, pushing the "test" button does not do anything, and letting the screensaver start results in a black screen.  So the binary works, and it displays just fine, but for some reason KDE cannot seem to use it.  Also, disabling compositing has no effect.

  • How to make cross platform screensavers

I work on an Imac on os X. I need to make screensavers for
cross platform (win/mac) distribution. I have flash 8 pro. Is there
any viable solution cheaper than the $200 for "Iscreensaver" or
$300 for "screentime" softwares? Failing that, does anyone have a
preference between the two? do you know if they allow flash
    interactivity or just animation?
    thanks in advance

Unfortunately there is no choices for you when comes to MAC.
    Windows has over
30 really good screensaver tools, some of which very capable
    and totally free.
Myself do not use Mac but friends who do, use the
    "screentime" as preferred tool.
Check the features, see what you need and which tools deliver
    what you looking
for than pick the winner :)

  • What happened to my screensavers?

Mid 2010 17" MacBook Pro, upgraded to 10.7.1.  I was using the Apple Hot News screensaver since day one, but today I noticed it came up as Computer Name.  I went to System Preferences to set it back, and all the screensavers are gone except Computer Name and Flurry.  Does anyone have an idea as to what happened to them, and how I can recover them?
    Many thanks in advance!

Okay, final update.  In case anyone else runs into this: I ran a disk permissions repair, powered down, and then brought the system back up and the screen saver choices have been restored.
    Hope that helps someone.

  • Is there a way to have multiple iPhoto screensavers?

In Mountain Lion, I usually have the "sliding panels" screensaver as my default iPhoto screensaver. However,if I use shuffle feature to switch between all the different screensavers, it only lets me use the "sliding panels" photos screensaver, but I'd like to use the "Origami" version as well.  Is there a way to do this? I apologize if this doesn't make sense :)

    Anyone?

  • Functional server screensavers

Anyone know of any screensavers that are fun, but also provide useful server status information?

actually, i searched this forum a bit and found that my problem had been discussed a lot in jan. seems it is a known problem with the DNS, although there was no problem in OS 10.3.9 and i'd like to know what changed. last time it happened i tried one suggested solution, 'dscacheutil -flushcache' and it worked.
maybe it's been fixed in an update i haven't installed yet? hope so!
