Screenshots iBooks

iTunes Producer has a section where you can insert up to 5 screenshots of your book. I searched the iBook Store and I haven't seen one single book that has screenshots on the book page. Why is that?
Secondly when creating a eBook for iPhone and iPad (not using iBooks Author), should the screenshots be taken on a iPhone or iPad?

Because you're using a computer? View a book in the store on your iPad. Screenshots are showing there for me...
I'm seeing screeshots on my laptop with Safari as well as when I browse the store on the iPad:

I took the screenshots on my iPad and simply added them to the book assets with iTunes Producer.

  • Screenshots from iBooks made by iBooks Author

    Hi everyone,
is it possible to disable screenshots in a book made by ibooks author?
    Thanks a lot.
    Arie

You can't disable the ability, but devs have a way to obfuscate the screen at a given time, making it a waste of time for the user if all they do is hit the buttons.
In the end, tho,, there are ways to capture the data that are still trivial enough, so the rule that is most quoted is - if you have something you don't want captured like that, don't put it on any mobile device

  • What are the allowable dimensions of screenshots for ibooks?

What are the allowable dimensions of screenshots for ibookes?  I know the requirement is very specific.
And what is the best tool to do so?  I tried to use the native screenshot tool but it is hard to make the size precise.

Minimum size is 600 pixels in the shorter dimension. Maximum size is 2048 pixels in the longer dimension. That's what you get when you take a screenshot on a new iPad. (There is no point in having something larger than this.) Screenshots taken with an older iPad are 1024x768.
For my book, I just took screenshots on an iPad 2 (1024x768) and used those. They were accepted without complaint.

  • HT4059 Can I ad screenshots to my iBook after it has been published to the iBookstore as I didn't include them in the original publication.

Can I ad screenshots to my iBook after it has been published to the iBookstore as I didn't include them in the original publication.

Try to use "Lightbox Display" in "Widget Library->Compositions". "Widget Library->Slideshows" can only contain images.

  • Strangest screenshot ever. Please help decipher on my iBook G4 Mac 10.4.11

When I tried to install a new hard drive on my iBook G4, I got this crazy image. When I then tried to boot up from the 10.4 DVD, I got the same image. Please help me identify what the heck it is and why I'm getting it. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks. Randy

I had a similar occurrence recently when I booted from a G4 cloned drive on my G5, and I'd not had a Wireless mouse ever installed on either.
I think it happens when it doesn't find a USB Mouse or the ABD/USB Trackpad right off.
I think I fixed mine by unplugging/pluggin the USB Mouse, but there may have been other steps that I've forgotten.

  • Blurry Photos in Photo gallery and Interactive image widget--(iBooks Author)

The pictures that I put in my photogallery and in my interactive image widget were at first clear and would get bigger when I tapped on them (in preview mode on my iPad), and then all of the sudden, they all are blurry, and now when I tap on them, they don't get bigger/zoom! How do I fix this??

The iBook is about 80 pages, and there is an average of one widget per page, sometimes 2. There are a few galleries in which there are more than one picture, but many of them are simply with one picture (because this is the only way to make it get bigger when you tap on it when on the iPad). For the Interactive Image widgets, I took a screenshot of a google maps route, and then focused on different stops to show directions on my iBook. I just redid all of the photo galleries that were blurry, and they are fixed now (no longer blurry). BUT the interactive images are still blurry....maybe I just need to go back and redo them?

  • Adding animation to iBook Author

I hope someone can help me.
I am creating a children's picture book in iBook Author.  I want to add animation which I created in Hype 2.5.1 and converted it into a widget.  I can add the widget OK and the animation works but the background is white so my page layout does not show.
    1.  Is there anyway to make the background transparent?
    2.  Do I have to create the entire page in Hype and import the whole thing into iBooks Author as a widget?
    3.  Is there a way I can add the animation as an animated .gif.
This animation part is new to me and I am having difficulty sorting it out.  I know it can be done because I've purchased some other books to see how other people are handling it and their animation works without the white background.  I just don't know how to do it.
    Please - any suggestions???

Widgets are displayed in their own view so transparency is not possible (to the best of my experiential knowledge). I suspect what you thought was transparency was a screenshot of that page used as the widget's background image. (Painful to update, sure, but it works!) Alternatively, a "page" could be simulated by the HTML widget. A recent title I was reading skinned the widget to look like the book so the widget's simulation felt like it was inline.
Many folks have successfully used Hype to create HTML widgets for iBooks Author titles, so I don't see why you couldn't use Hype for what you need.
Finally, recommended image types are JPEG and PNG. I don't know why GIF wouldn't work, but a simple experiment would tell you whether it would work for you.

  • "open in ibooks" button doesn't open pdf on iPhone 6, click it several times and nothing happens

The "open in ibooks" button doesn't open pdf on new iPhone 6. I'll click it several times and nothing happens. Is there a way to uninstall ibooks and reinstall?

there is no share button in preview
I am seeing a Share button in Preview's toolbar, Larry:  Can you see the screenshot?
The content of the Share menu will depend on the file format. For PDFs the menu will be nearly empty and iPhoto and aperture are missing.

  • Some images won't load in Safari, iTunes, iBooks and App Store

Since my upgrade to Mavericks, some images on Safari, iTunes, iBooks and App Store wont load some times. I can't figure out the source of problem, but I've tested all four apps and the same problem exists across all of them; I've also tested Chrome, Firefox and Opera to see if they are suffering from the same problem, and surprisingly enough I've found that they are not; They load images perfectly well, and I've never encountered one to not load images. I'm totally confused and frustrated, what is preventing Apple products to load images? Here are some screenshots:

Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items.  Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History and Web Site Data. The down side is it clears all cookies.Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site.

  • Screenshots no longer working (only grey) in 10.6

I had a look at some other posts about this but did not find anybody with this problem.
I recently upgraded to 10.6 and since than screenshots are a bit of a pain. The old keyboard commands still work but if I try to open the screenshot it is grey. If I open it with the ‘Quick Look’ function it is all there and when I paste it to somewhere it is there, but if I open it with Preview it is grey. Any tips tricks or ideas?

I would suggest turning off one of the interfaces to test.  Always leave DNS on!
We ran into this when we were running Xsan.  Our way around this was to stop Xsan, deactivate the metadata LAN, launch AST to allow it to bind to primary LAN.  Then once it acquired the connection, enable your secondary LAN.

  • I cannot open iBooks on my iMac.

When I try to open iBooks on my iMac I get the following message.  I have never been able to open iBooks from day one.  Since I haven't had a need to use it on  my iMac I just let it go, but now I would like to start using it.  What might be wrong?
The last time you opened iBooks, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?
If you choose not to reopen windows, you may have to open and position the windows yourself.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Ibooks will not sync

I did a restore on my iPad since it was crashing very frequently. Now, I can't get my books (PDF files) to sync. I have sync all books selected, and it shows they are supposed to sync, but nothing happens. This screenshot is after several "succesful" sync's.

Thanks Carolyn, but it is turned on like you said. In the first post, I tried to post a screenshot from iTunes, >devices, >iPad, >Books. All my PDF's are showing up in iTunes, and my Iphone 4S synced with the same computer. They are listed under the iPad, but "greyed out" and have the grey "syncing" circle nedt to each one. Restarted computer and iPad multiple times. Reinstalled iBooks, unchecked sync books, synced iPad, and then rechecked sync books. Tried everything I can think of with no luck.
    Thanks for helping!!
    Joel.

  • "Open In" functionality with .ibooks file does not work

I am using the latest iBooksAuthor v2.2 and exporting an iBook to the .ibooks file format.  I have tried with and without a version number.  When I import the .ibooks file using the "Open In" functionality on the iPad it opens in the iBooks app.  However, if the book is already in iBooks it does not overwrite the existing iBook with the new file that has the changes I have made.  Am I missing a setting somewhere to ensure this works?

    Hello kbbean,
The resource below will explain how to publish and update to your previously published book in the iBooks Store:
iBooks Author: How to update your published book in the iBooks Store - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202443
Learn how to update a book that you published to the iBooks Store.
Before you can publish an update to your book:
You must have a Paid Books Account or Free Books Account.
You must have submitted your book to the iBooks Store at least one time.
You must install iTunes Producer on your Mac.
You must install iBooks Author 2.0 or later. We recommend the latest version of iBooks Author.
Your book’s file size can't be larger than 2 GB.
If you want to update your screenshots, use Contact Us in iTunes Connect. You can't update the screenshots that appear with your book in the iBooks Store via a redelivery. You can add screenshots to iTunes Producer only the first time you publish your book.
When you're ready to publish an update to your book:
Open the book (.iba file) that you'd like to update in iBooks Author.
Make the desired changes to your book.
Click Publish in the iBooks Author toolbar, or choose it in the File menu.
Follow the prompts until you reach the Add Version Info screen.
Select "This is an update to a previously submitted book."
    Click Continue.
Choose which of your previously published books you'd like to update.
Enter a new version number. The new version number must be higher than the version number that currently appears on the iBooks Store.
Click Continue and follow the prompts.
iBooks Author will export your updated book to iTunes Producer. Follow the onscreen instructions in iTunes Producer to publish your updated book to the iBooks Store. Most of the required fields will be filled in for you, but you'll need to include text in the What's New field to update your book.
