Screwed up itunes

hi...
Long and short: I had an external hard drive with all my music on it, it died. I was able to pull a few things off of it including my itunes folder with my itunes music library and a folder containing a the few tunes I could salvage. Anyhow, I opened my itunes, redirected the link to the new location of the itunes folders, and all was right with the world. I could play the few tunes I salvaged and began building the library again. Today I got a new external drive to put my music on it again, and I copied the itunes folder over to it and dumped the original folder, and tried opening itunes, finding it wouldn't open. The program acts as if it's going to open, and shows a menu bar for a few seconds, but then ball spin and when I look at the finder window, its says the program is active, but yet I can't seem to access it in any way. I have to force quit it from the forece quit menu to get it to stop, then with out doing anything, the program, turns itself back on, but yet is unaccessible. YIKES!!!! DANG program. Is there some preference file I can throw out or something to make the program open so I can direct it to the new location of the itunes folder?

Another thing you can try is starting from scratch. When you open iTunes, hold down the option key. A littlel dialog box will pop up asking if you want to select a different itunes library or start a new one. Start a new one (it will walk you through the process), go to preferences and make sure that under the Advanced menu that you have "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" checked, and then manually drag all your song files into the main iTunes window. You will lose any playlists you have, as well as any ratings or playcounts, but all the music will be there and work fine. After iTunes finishes importing all of your music, delete where it was stored (it will be in the new library folder) and you will be fine.

  • Pre-order album via iPhone screws up iTunes navigation

This is a very specific bug, so I'm not holding my breath for any fixes soon. But here it goes:
I pre-ordered an album through the iPhone.
Now, whenever I launch the iTunes App, it will momentarily open the correct page, and then suddenly jump over unannounced to my pre-order purchases -- presumably iTunes is checking if my preorders have been released.
This isn't that big of a deal, but it's especially annoying when using the "Get More Episodes" buttons in the iPod player. Clicking "Get More Episodes" takes me automatically to the appropriate Podcast directory, but only momentarily. It quickly automatically switches to the pre-order list. There is no direct BACK button, forcing me to start from the main Podcast screen and search my way back to my specific Podcast directory again.
I assume this will go away once my purchased album is released and I can download it, but this is making Podcast streaming a headache.
Any fixes, "me too"s, or suggestions?

    Hi
If history is anything to go by the pre-orders go live at midnight PST on the 12th. So 3am EST and 8am GMT.

  • Yes I screwed up iTunes, iPhone and iPad, but I'm sure you guys can fix it, right?

Ok, so I re-formatted my hard drive and re-installed osx without realizing that I hadn't saved my songs and my aperture library file.  At least i have my 10,000+photos on my external drives in a nice folder structure!
Here's the catch - I had all songs and apps on my iphone and ipad - when i upgraded to iOS5 on the phone, I lost it all becuase i had to re-sync the phone wiht the computer -
now i have all my songs and apps on the ipad, but I am still missing my purchased music content.  I have a record of my purchases in the itunes store account section, but how can i get this stuff off the ipad and then sync to my computer/phone?  Anyone? Bueller, Bueller, Bueller?
Okay mac geniuses and work-arounders, I need some good ideas -
I did download and use a program called Senuti to get my songs off the ipad, but for some reason it wouldn't copy the purchased content and woudln't copy the apps.
Good luck!  I'm ready and waiting for all ideas, and A HUGE thank you in advance for all your help!
    Sincerely,
    Mr. Should-have-backed-up-better-but-it-was-3-in-the-morning-and-i-don't-function-w ell-without-sleep

never-mind- i was able to use file- transfer purchases-
only weird thing - when i called applecare, they didn't mention this little tid-bit.

hey guys and gals, i really need help. i've been trying to fix my iTunes software for months now. Without further ado, here's what happened:

the details of the error report are:

    uhh, okay
these wernt present in my add/remove programs list. but itunes was.
    "Uninstall iPod Updater
    5) In Add/Remove Programs, select iPod Updater. Click Change/Remove.
    6) A Confirm Uninstall window appears. Select OK to remove iPod Updater.
    7) Repeat for any and all iPod Updaters.
    Uninstall QuickTime

    9) The QuickTime Uninstall window appears. Select the Uninstall Everything.
    10) The Uninstall Successful window appears. Select OK.

    also,
    12) Open My Computer. Open your hard drive. Open Program Files.
    13) Delete iPod, iTunes and QuickTime folders if present.
it wont let me delete quicktime folder, but i deleted ipod and itunes folder with ease. and with that,i deleted quicktime AND itunes in "apple computer folder" i did this entire process several times, and the same message popped up. however, i think it's those missing componets that's screwing my itunes up. it gets really fustrating after awhile.
    thanks,

  • ITunes showing albums out of order iOS 7 - iTunes showing nothing not on iPad but have to download by each album

I really didn't think they could screw up iTunes more but it seems they have. It seems that iTunes is the one branch of the Apple tree that has been left to run ragged and alienate customers at will. Design, Marketing, Support and Stores still seem to be the same Apple and functioning in a way to grow as well as retain customer base. iTunes - not so much.
All albums showing out of track order on iPad now - this is a real treat for live concert albums especially. I will note that this is the case for both albums purchased from iTunes as well as copies of CDs I had already purchased and ripped but fixed their titles to sync with iTunes versions (that's another bone to pick that there should be a simple way to tell iTunes yes this is that album - so the in the store function works and album art is simply facilitated - they loose sales daily from the inability to hit in the store for CDs that you ripped from your purchased copies but that impulsive purchase that iTunes makes millions from is lost because most people do not spend the sometimes hours to link them back in)
    How do I fix this?
iTunes Store shows no purchases not on the iPad but I have to download album by album because they aren't there.
    How do I fix this?
    iTunes regularly forgetting album art?
    How do I fix this?
I get the aesthetic that they were going with for iOS 7, and in most cases I think it works. iTunes is a mess. While yes I did like the visual album flip that has now been removed completely (but used in other ways or at least the style is now your safari pages on mobile) but the white is way too much most especially in the case of "currently playing" changing that mode from a great visual leaving the iPad playing playlists to an incredibly nasty stark light fixture. I do understand the design decision to make album covers appear smaller so that their retina screens are looking their best but I am hoping there is a way to chance the background in this mode. If not it has become completely useless to me and I am sure many others.
How do I fix this? Can I fix this?

I ended up fixing my issue. The problem was the fact that some of the songs in an album were marked as part of a compilation, but some were not. iTunes seems to be less strict about grouping things in albums, so I never really noticed it.
However, this, combined with the fact that I could not update the metadata after the song is added to iCloud resulted in me changing the metadata on the computer, only to have it reset when I updated Match. I solved the problem by deleted everything from iCloud and rematching it, but only after I had corrected the compilation issue.
So, if you are havng the same issue, delete and readd everything to iCloud. I deleted everything from a second PC (that had no locally stored files) and then rematched from my laptop (where iTunes asked whether I wanted to add to iCloud, keep the song, or delete it. Choose "Add to iCloud" to rematch).

  • How can I copy songs in my iTunes library on my Macbook Pro to a new MacBook?

I bought a Macbook Pro 13-inch a few weeks ago.
    Version: Mac OS X 10.7.1
Processor: 2.7 GHz Intel core i7
    Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
I go to school now, but anyways, the school gave me a MacBook to study, play, and listen to music with, but I do not know how to copy songs from my MacBook Pro to my MacBook.
    Version: Mac OS X 10.6.8
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
I looked around and tried all these different things, but no luck at all. When I connect the Macbook Pro and Macbook with an Ethernet Cable, it says Error Code (-3150). So does this mean I have to purchase EVERY SINGLE SONG AGAIN?!?!? If that is so, I will not do it, could anyone please help me? Thanks!!!

No, you should not have to purchase everything again. The whole point of what Apple is doing now with iTunes Match and iCloud is "purchase only once, use on all your devices."
As far as moving between machines, I have often done what sig described there, across my network instead of with a flash drive. Just copy the contents of the iTunes folder to the exact same location on the second computer. I have even copied between iTunes folders on a PC and Mac.
The Error Code (-3150) is something probably completely unrelated to iTunes, like a network error. You must troubleshoot that separately. Instead of panicking, when you get an error you should Google it. I found this note:
    http://www.pc-library.com/errors/error-code/3150-0xC4E/
It sounds like the error code is related to a problem with your network. Are you running any Internet filtering software like ad blockers or virus protection? I have seen those screw up iTunes access to the iTunes store before.

  • Itunes opening extremely slow on PC.  Using windows 7 64 bit.  Have re installed itunes several times and tunes not recognizing ipod touch 3rd gen

have this  issue since 10.6 update can't down grade to earlier version...  I tunes drag painly slow to open ever after be re-installed several time.  Any thought out there?

I had the same problem with my iPhone 4. I use Avast as my virus scanner, and the incoming mail filter in Avast screws with iTunes/iPhone and stops the computer recognising the phone. Disabled the mail filter and the iPhone syncs fine. You should give that a go. Possible that it is the same issue with the iPod too.

  • Figuring out podcasts in iTunes 11.1 and iOS 7.

Like many here, I'm dismayed by some of the ways that iTunes 11.1 now handles podcasts: that appalling view of "SHOW ME EVERYTHING" in the List pane in particular.
What I'm providing here are a few tips and suggestions for things that seem to be working for me.
In iTunes: List view is now basically useless, so lots of us are moving to the previously-disliked My Podcasts pane. (I don't like it either, but it currently seems the best option.) Your podcasts are probably in no order whatsoever, BUT you can drag and drop them to your preferred order. Yeah, this takes a while and is annoying, but a good part of the (improved?) syncing with iOS: the same order will also appear in your Podcasts app on the iPhone! And vice versa: I actually reordered them on my iPhone (hey, I was bored on the subway), and to my surprise the new order appeared on iTunes when I got home.
Deleting podcast episodes: in iTunes, don't delete them. If you delete them, they'll download again the next time you sync. Instead, mark them as played, and then re-sync - that's the only way I've found to get rid of them in iTunes. On the other hand, you CAN still delete in the Podcasts app, and then, once iTunes is synced again, those deleted episodes will also disappear from iTunes (which I believe is actually an improvement). (They'll still appear in that stupid List view, but now with a cloud icon.)
In iTunes, you can choose the podcast subscription settings: the option that seems to work best for me is Download ALL. That sounds scary - like you're going to get all 400 episodes of Stuff You Should Know - but as best I can tell it doesn't mean Download All; it means Download ALL NEW (big difference!). This is especially useful for podcasts that often put out a few episodes at a time (Fresh Air, Bill Maher): if you just Download Most Recent, you'll be missing some.
Note that podcast subscription settings seem to automatically sync across iTunes and the Podcasts app. If you unsubscribe in Podcasts, then you also unsubscribe in iTunes. (I suspect this lies behind how many people suddenly found themselves unsubscribed to their Podcasts.)
For those with a big collection of podcast episodes that they want to keep: change the Media Kind! Spoken, I change to Audiobooks, and Music, to, well, Music. I've done this for years, and this is probably the only reason I didn't lose massive collections of podcasts with 11.1. It makes managing your library a lot easier. EDITTED ADDITIONAL NOTE: Unfortunately any epsidodes that are changed like this will then be re-downloaded, because, well, because iTunes wants to make your life miserable, I guess. Mark the re-downloaded episodes as played (because deleting doesn't work ), and they'll disappear again.
Use smart playlists. "Media Kind = Podcast", and "Plays = 0". Such a playlist is more useful for viewing than anything left in the Podcasts section in iTunes, although unfortunately you can't refresh from that playlist - you still have to go to the now-appalling Podcasts section.
Using the Podcasts iOS app isn't actually that bad. "My Stations" is the foolish name for what is called "Playlists" everywhere else, and your iTunes podcast playlists should appear there (with the usual too-complicated syncing nonsense for setup). You can play podcasts quite well in "My Stations", although unfortunately you can't mix it with audiobooks or music.
    Good luck.

So, yesterday I downloaded three episodes of a podcast that I used to subscribe to. (Months ago I had subscribed and had listened to these podcasts, but they were all removed from iTunes.)
I listened to one of them partway through.
Shut off the computer last night. Started up today, and started up iTunes. The three episodes are gone.
The podcast is still listed on the left hand side, but there are no episodes. They are not in the trash. They are not in my library in the folder Podcasts.
Other podcasts are there and seem to be complete (but I have so many podcasts that I'm not sure). They seem to play just fine.
I did not listen to this podcast on any other device that I used last night (iPhone, iPad). I believe I opened the Podcasts app on the iPhone, but I didn't play anything.
The only thing I did was turn on iTunes Match, which should have no effect as it only affects music.
I do not trust my iTunes library any longer.
Clearly, things are screwed up. When I was looking on my disk for the files, I discovered that the podcast still has a folder there, complete with episodes that I deleted long ago. It's totally out of sync with what iTunes is reporting.
Maybe it's time to "nuke and pave" my iTunes library. I wish I had a spare few hours to research how to do this safely and without screwing up iTunes match and my saved podcasts. Given the problems people are reporting with podcasts, however, maybe it's not possible to do this without risking podcasts. Grrr.
    Edited to add:
    The podcast settings are:
    Subscribed unchecked
    Keep: All
    Download: All
I just closed iTunes and reopened it. The three episodes have disappeared again.

  • Windows Vista Aero theme - incompatible with iTunes?

Whenever I boot up my laptop I get an error saying iTunes is stopping my Vista Aero theme from showing. When I go to task manager and end the ituneshelper.exe module process, the Aero theme is then accessible.
I know the ituneshelper.exe is an important module to allow to run, but I really don't want it interfering with my Vista theme. Does anyone know of a fix for this? Help would be so much appreciated.

OK I figured out the problem:
I had installed Quicktime Alternative which screwed up iTunes since it requires the very newest version of Quicktime to be installed.
Moral of this story: Don't install Quicktime Alternative

  • Updating IPOD after downloading itunes 7

Since downloading Itunes 7, my ipod wont update, its says its updated, but its not. I tried calling the unhelpful helpdesk (25mins waiting)and also tried resetting warnings. Help!!! it was fine until itunes 7. Any suggestions appreciated

I am having the same problem. It was definitely
easier using 6.5 version. I can't see how songs are
listed on my ipod while it is attached to my
computer. All the artists were organized, song names
organized...all undone by version 7!! If I can find
my previous version, I will definitely recover it and
use that instead...anyone know how to apply changes
to just a song or one artist category? I have to
manually change all my songs now, like "blink 182,
Blink 182, Blink-182..etc" Make sure all your file
names in your computer are right, it will load it
however it is listed in your computer...**** IT!!
Hey, im having this same problem, did you ever find a fix or are we all just screwed by itunes 7?
      Windows XP

  • Podcasts not showing up in iTunes or in Podcast folder in iPod

What is happening, is that my iPod is full of podcasts, yet I can only find them on my iPod if I look under artists, they are no longer under podcasts.
This is also screwing with iTunes as when I try and delete these podcasts to make room...they do not appear in iTunes at all.
Also when I look in iTunes under the "devices - my ipod" it says the total space for songs is a bunch of random letters and numbers.
This started happening after I realized that most of my album art turned all black in most of my songs.
Anyone have any advice besides a reformat (do not have copies of photos and songs that are on my iPod and do not want to lose them.)?

Well considering no one replied. What I had to do was this.
Go under iPod in My Computer (as a device plugged in). Then make sure hidden folders are visible. Then search under the Ipod_Control folders for the titles of all the podcasts that were missing. I then deleted them and now have room back on my Ipod...thank you Itunes.

  • Installed iTunes into New Computer and it doesnt function

hey I was wondering if anyone could help me:
I recently purchased a new computer and when I installed iTunes+Quicktime onto the computer, the program doesn't want to open up.
When I click on it, I see the hourglass cursor, then it goes away.
Is it possibly because I also have a program called iPod Access which helps ne to backtrack the songs?
I have tried uninstalling and installing it...no help.
Please advise me as to what is wrong! Thanks very much.
      Windows XP

Is it possibly because I also have a program called iPod Access which helps ne to backtrack the songs?
Yes, it's possible this is screwing up iTunes.
What does "backtrack the songs" mean?

  • Itunes match. says error 4010

I have been trying to get my itunes match to work for a really long time.  there was a time that it was on and then i got a window saying to long out and then log back in.  after I logged back in, I have been getting the error 4010. and that it cannot connect to store.

Yes, but does it work the next time you add to your library?
If I do all the steps (sign in, turn off, sign out, reset, sign out, quit, open, shake, repeat) I can sometimes get iTunes Match to work ONCE, I think. But then it fails with some random error message (4001, 4002, 4010, 3132, etc) the next time it runs. It basically makes it useless, and sometimes it seems to screw up iTunes as well, with things I've bought downloading a second time, or the program hanging.
This need to work. Why hasn't Apple addressed this problem? It's obvious a lot of people are having it.

  • Problems w/ iTunes

After so many problems with iTunes 7 series it was absurd the iTunes 8 sounded like a blessing.
Download, install, restart-- then start iTunes.
Screen comes up, tells me it is making thumbnails.
    Keeps doing it.
    Keeps doing it.
    Keeps doing it.
Fine-- if it is finding the "lost" twenty thousand songs on the hard drive and filing them, GREAT.
    Keeps doing it.
    Keeps doing it.
Stops 1/3 of the way through the bar.
Cursor no longer moves, iTunes and clock are both frozen.
Outside of holding down the power switch to kill the machine--
AND MAYBE SCREWING UP ITUNES EVEN WORSE THAN IT WAS
is there any way out of this mess?
This, btw, is only on the desktop machine-- I took the laptop into another room to post this.

Hi did you note the minimum system requirements to use iTunes 8 and to play the HD versions of shows? In an earlier post you had your system software listed as 10.4.8 and as 10.4.11 so make sure your software is up to date and meets minimum requirements. Also regarding the HD versions of the show "Playing HD-quality videos purchased on the iTunes Store requires a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or faster processor". If you can't find it on your computer it may be because you can't play it.
    check this page: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    System Requirements for iTunes 8
    Mac OS 10.4.9 or later
Mac OS X 10.5 or later
    QuickTime 7.5.5 or later
    Macintosh Hardware
Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, G4, or G3 processor
Playing videos purchased on the iTunes Store requires a Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5 or 1.0GHz PowerPC G4 or faster processor
Playing HD-quality videos purchased on the iTunes Store requires a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or faster processor
512MB of RAM; 1GB is required to play HD-quality videos
Playing videos also requires at least 16MB of video RAM
A broadband Internet connection is required to use the iTunes Store

  • Confusing error message from iTunes when trying to use AirTunes

    Hello everyone,
I figured since other folks might run into this issue that it's worth posting about, since it's both annoying, irritating, and none of the Apple support hints address it properly ...
If you're one of those folk like me who has to deal with corporate proxies for pretty much everything while at work, but don't have any local proxy issues at home, you might use something called Proxifier.
Be aware that the way it works (as a kernel module, intercepting socket calls and transparently mapping them through your defined proxy) will screw up iTunes unless you explicitly unproxy it (it implicitly proxies everything except what you tell it to).
The error message I kept getting was "The remote speaker is not compatible with your version of iTunes", and after spending 20 minutes or so with ktrace, watching socket calls, I gave Proxifier a poke and told it to stop proxying iTunes. Lo, and behold, AirTunes magic returned.
So if you use both of these applications, be wary of the interaction between the two, as it can be confusing and produce undescriptive and unhelpful error messages!
    cheers,
    Klaus

    Hi Mars-
It sounds like your NI-DAQ installation may have become corrupted. I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the DAQmx 7.4 driver to correct this problem and ensure that you're up to date. This download is available here: NI-DAQ 7.4
If the problem persists you may want to uninstall and reinstall LabVIEW and then NI-DAQ in that order. The error message will usually give an indication as to which VI the error occurred in. Please let us know which VI is failing if you're unable to avoid the error with these suggestions.
    Have a good day-
