Screws fell out of HP Envy TS Notebook PC

The screws that connect the screen to the keyboard have become loose several times over the last few months and even though I've tightened them as soon as I could after I realized there was a problem, I've lost the one on the left-hand side.
Where could I get a replacement for this? I was trying to look on ebay but I wouldn't even know what to look for as I know there's a lot of different kinds of laptop screws but don't know what kind these are.
Thank you!

  • Yoga 2 Pro screw fell out again - THANKS LENOVO

OK, so I've been an owner of the Best Buy Special (the Yoga 2 Pro with 256 GB SSD, 8 GB RAM, and i7 CPU) since last November, and the system died on me once a few months back.  Fine, I send into Lenovo for repair and they got it back to me pretty quickly.  Soon after getting it back, one, then two screws on the bottom side of the laptop fall out, and others look like they're precariously close to doing the same.  At the time I didn't even have an idea of what screwhead these were (now I know they're Torx), but I was missing 1 out of the 2 that fell out.  I called Lenovo to ask if they had an extra screw to send me and unbelievably, they told me the only way this could be resolved was to send it back to them.  I went to my local Best Buy's Geek Squad, and they said they didn't have any screws or means of screwing in the one I still had (so what do they do exactly?)
Finally, I gave in and sent it back to Lenovo for another week's turnaround time to replace two lousy little screws.  Well, it's happened again in the last week, and I do not know when or where it fell out, but I sure as hell don't plan on losing my computer for another week's time over a screw.  So does anyone know where I can locate the world's smallest Torx screw?  The service manual is of little help in identifying it, in fact I think it's completely off because it says it's a Philips or flathead (can't remember, but it was wrong) and nylon-coated; and even if I did know how to ID this screw by measurement, etc., all the screw stores I've seen online tend to sell their wares in bulk.  I just want one, and Lenovo can't even give one to me.  This is ridiculous.
So... has anyone been through this frustration and was able to locate what apparently is the smallest Torx screw in the world?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I was able to find the size of the screw and went into a TrueValue store and purchase them. Its M2 5mm screw. they had a M2 6mm that was flat head. it worked and it really dosent matter what type of head it has, just as long as it fits.

  • Hard drive screw fell out and doesn't load half the times. (t41)

I have a T41 thinkpad and i saw the screw on the bottom holding the hard-drive is gone.  When i turn off/on computer it sometimes loads, sometimes is very touchy where if i bump lower right side it turns off hard-drive.  What should i do?

Pull the hard drive out entirely, then push it back in as far as it will go...and make a trip to the local hardware store. I'm sure that $1 or less will resolve this issue.

  • How do I disable the Symantics TouchPad on my HP Envy 14t notebook?

I have tried to modify the sensitivity of the touchpad on my laptop, but it's still so touchy it's driving me crazy. The other issues I looked at here in the Community forum don't pertain to the machine or utilities I have.
I want to COMPLETELY DISABLE it and use a plug-in mouse.  Where is the option to disable the touchpad?
I have uninstalled the Symantic TouchPad driver, but the touchpad still shows up as a device as "PS/2 Compatible Mouse." When I open its Mouse Properties dialog, on the Driver tab, the Disable button is grayed out.
How do I COMPELTELY DISABLE the touchpad and just use a plug-in mouse on the HP Envy 14t notebook?
    This question was solved.

    @kiltinshire,
Thanks for posting back.  As you may be aware there are multiple versions of HP notebooks, most control functions are found in the user guide.  If you can not find it there then you would have to go to how to disable hard ware in windows.  That is a microsoft topic.
You normally have 2 choices to physically shut it off.  First the touchpad has a little button in a corner depending on model.  Use a function key it will have a diagram of a square and a finger.  These methods have been used for years for turning your touchpad off.
Next is just google how to turn off touchpad in windows 8.  Here is a couple links that you may find useful that I found using that search.
    TouchPad and Keyboard
How to Enable and Disable Touch Pad on HP ENVY
Disable Laptop Touchpad in Windows 8 / 7
How to disable laptop touch pad in windows 8
Now if you are actually trying to find a way of permanently shutting off the touchpad so that it does not come on again you will have to dig into Windows help for that.  If Windows sees the hardware at start up it will by default try and load the base driver for it and most likely turn it on when you reboot.
The only other way is to open up your notebook and disconnect the cable that goes from the touch pad to the motherboard so that does not happen.
    I am hoping that helps.

  • HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC Cannot Install Cyberlink PowerDirector on Fresh Install Windows 8.1

    HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC
    Product number: F5D54EA#ABU
    Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
I replaced the original system drive with a SSD, fresh install of wndows 8.1 (not recovery disk), now I canot install Cyberlink PowerDirector downloaded from HP sp69386. During installation it fails with "This is not a valid HP drive, Setup will now abort" It obviously requires something to be available on the drive but I don't know what.
    PowerDVD will install just fine.
Please don't mention a Recovery Install it's taken too long to arrive at this stage.
The question is what is the software looking for during installation to satisfy itself that this is a genuine HP laptop and can I replicate that on the SSD.

    Hi @Darren104
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I saw your post regarding the problem installing the Cyberlink PowerDirector software. As the PowerDirector software is DVD software I can't see how a new SSD would cause the “not a valid HP driver” if you had changed out your optical drive then maybe. I would recommend that you give us a call at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or start here if you live outside of North America.

  • Re: Satellite A200 - Metal fin part fell out of my laptop. Where does it go?

    Hello all, My 1st post.
I have a A200 Satellite. I stupidly dropped it a few weeks ago and a thin metal strip with L shaped fins fell out. Approx 6cm long by 2cm high.
I have asked 2 laptop people but they are not really sure where it is from, they have suggested maybe "This looks like either part of the cooling vent ( check the laptop is not overheating as it might be part of the heat sink), or a grounding plate from the base cover, used to help prevent damage to the components in the event of a short circuit"
The laptop is working fine, no cracks in the casing etc, and does not appear to be overheating, fan working great. 100%.....
I have a photo of the part (that i could email)if anyone needs to see it, to help me. I just dont understand how it fell out!
Any help from anyone, on where it is from and if it is easy for me to replace it back in its correct location, would be gratefully appreciated.
    Regards
    Craig

This part probably belongs to cooling system and I can imagine it is heat pipe holder or something like this. To put it in place again is not so easy and notebook must be disassembled.
So my advice is to put this part on secure place and maybe one day you will bring it to service for cleaning. Then this part can be inserted in the place.
Continue to use your notebook and be happy. ;)

  • Resored envy dv6 notebook and windows 8 won't load i dont have the discs

I bought an HP envy dv6 notebook used with Windows 8.  The person I bought it from did not remove her password or fingerprint scan, I was unable to reach them (i bought it out of state).  I did some research and found the best thing to do was a complete system restore - which i followed the directions and did.  I do not have the original driver disc.
I am now in a contant loop where it comes up with the first password which I successfully changed but would like to remove.  When it starts to load the administrator it goes into a constant loop of Windows did not load properly. Restart the computer.  And I fo around and around,  I have tried everything I have found on here and many other sires and still I am unable to get it to work.
I have a Windows 7 disc but I am afraid to even try it since I was told that the reset to factory settings would work and it doesn't I do not want to do anymore damage.
I did notice that the born on date say 00/00/0000  I am not sure if that is part of the problem or not

  • Airport cord fell out, Where does it go?

I upgraded my ram and the airport cable that is connected to the computer fell out inside. I have no clue where it goes. I was wondering if anyone had a picture where it goes or could describe it pretty clearly. I would really appreciate it.
    It's a minimac by the way/

What's copper? If you have viewed the second site posted above, when the tech is putting in the RAM you can see the mini PCI express Airport card between his fingers and the back of the Mini ( it's silver and rectangular in shape). This card is secured to the mainboard with two screws, located near the heat sink for the processor (just to the right of the Airport Card viewing from the front of the Mini). On either side of the mounting screws are two tiny round antenna plug in receptacles - one is labeled main and the other aux for auxiliary. Plug the little round tab at the end of the antenna wire into the main receptacle, thread the wire around the air outlet of the drive tray so you can put the drive tray back into its position. Seat the interconnect board, the front fan control (drive sensor) cable by the battery in front. Start the mini up to make sure everything is attached properly, then shut it back down and put the top back on.

  • Satellite Portege R705 Screws falling out from inside computer

I've had two screws fall out of the INTERIOR of my Satellite Protege R705.  The first one hit my right hand as I picked up the laptop off my lap.  The second one fell off today when I picked the laptop up by the top of the screen (while it was open).  I did not see this one fall but heard it hit the floor & it was exactly the same type of screw as the first one.  Again, there are not screws missing from the exterior of my computer, or the opened DVD player.
Has anyone else had this happen and what do I do?  My computer is physically functioning OK other than it keeps saying one of my USB ports is not working even though both USB ports do work so I've ignored that warning.

    Kathy,
A couple things.  First, this post is a bit dated, so probably better for you to start your own thread instead of posting to an old one.
Also, when posting, please provide the entire model number (which the OP did not).  It is provided on the bottom of the computer and looks something like Portege R705-P40.
Check the bottom of the computer and look in each one of the holes to see if you can find which one is missing a screw.  If you find it, just replace the screw using a jeweler's screwdriver.  If not, it likely is not going to be an issue as the case is held together with many screws.
Finally, as has been posted already, never pick up your computer from the screen, as you could break one of the hinges, and they are difficult to repair.
If your computer is working then don't wory about it losing a screw.

  • HP Envy m6 Notebook - How to Turn On Touchscreen?

I just bought an HP Envy TouchSmart Notebook yesterday and I can't figure out how to get the touchscreen to work. The touchpad works fine, but touching the screen does nothing. The box says that it's the m6-n010dx model.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Support Forums!   I understand that your Touch Screen is not working on your new HP Envy TouchSmart Notebook. I will try my best to help you with this. The Touch screen should be on by default. But, just in case it was disabled inadvertently, try the steps in this document for Troubleshooting Touch Screen Issues in Windows 8. You can also try these steps to make sure that the Touch screen is enabled.1. Press the Windows logo key + X.
    2. Select Device Manager from the list.

  • Bottom 2 screws fallen out of Macbook..could this cause a kernel panic?

Ive had my macbook black since november 2006... havent moved it around a lot... except for when it has needed to go back in for repairs.
Ive had the LCD and logic board replaced (the LCD had some weird vertical lines going across it) and the logic board went above 103 degrees celsius.
About 2 weeks after I got my beloved mac back from repairs, I noticed that 1 of the screws (towards the back) had just fallen out. I didnt give it much thought at the time, until the corresponding screw on the right also fell out.
Both of these screws would simply not go back in. Gravity pulled them out like an ejector seat of a fighter plane.. just gone.
Only now I'm thinking that this may have been the cause of the recent kernel panics ive been having. They happen almost always when the machine is moved (up, down, left, right.......)
After running the latest Techtool Pro and Apple Service Diagnostic CD, both of which reporting that every part of the machine is working 100%, I'm guessing that these 2 screws hold (held) the logic board to another component, and therefore, will give problems if not in place.
Has anyone else had this sort of problem?

    Hi
This sounds plausible to me, esp if you get the KP after moving the computer. I suggest you take it back to the repairer.

  • HP ENVY m6 Notebook PC trackpad issue even after HP repair

2 weeks ago i sent my HP ENVY m6 Notebook to the HP Repair center because i was having major issues with the trackpad. It would not move fluidly, and click, and move on its own.
I received my laptop back today anticipating that everything would work perfectly but some of these same issues are still occuring. The touchpad and the cable that connects it were both replace and the laptop was wiped clean.
The toucpad will work for sometime then all of a sudden become glitchy. This is really effecting my usage of the computer. It is a huge inconvenience to pay for a laptop and have a major component malfunctioning. I'm currently using a wireless mouse again.
Since the hardware was replace is there a software problem. This sems to be occuring to so many people.

My ipod nano 6th gen fell out of my pocket and the screen cracked badly, is there any coverage for this under warranty? I just bought it a month ago. If not what are the options for getting it fixed? It is pretty frustrating, it fell from about 3 feet out of my pocket and now looks like it was beaten by a hammer.

That's where I would begin, too, with
    Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.TStatus of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it saysanything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need touse autility like TechTool Pro,Drive Geniusor DiskWarrior
First we need to determine if the issue you are experiencing with the computer is software or hardware based. Once we have gotten things sorted out there should be time enough to make you decision about keeping or returning it.

I got my ipod touch (4th generation) on March 20, 2012, and it fell out of my pocket when I jumped. Unfortunantly, the screen cracked very badly, and it has become a hazard, not only for the many cuts I have gotton on my fingers from the ipod screen's broken glass, but for what I type (because the screen is cracked so badly, I cannot see what I am doing). The ipod has become pointless to own in its condition. I would like to know how much the repair would be, where the best place to get it done is located, and how much future insurance would cost in the United States. Thank you for you time.

    See "Repair Pricing."
No clue where you can purchase insurance but it's probably not worth the price.
