"Script: chrome://searchshield/content/avgls-active.js:70" scrip running on page error message keeps popping up

I keep getting messages that a scrip is running on the page. It used to be once every couple of days, then every day, now every couple of minutes. An example of the message:
"Script: chrome://searchshield/content/avgls-active.js:70"
How do I fix this?

The problem is caused by a malfunctioning AVG add-on. Try disabling the AVG search shield add-on.
# In the Tools menu select Add-ons
# In the list of Extensions click on the AVG extension to select it
# Click on the Disable button, then re-start Firefox
This should stop the error.

I keep getting a pop up window telling me that the script: chrome://messenger/content/mailWindow.js:180 is taking a long time to complete, and would I like to stop it. If I do stop it, Thunderbird sometime speeds up for a minute or so and then the problem starts again.

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

  • Can anyone tell me why Firefox "freezes" as a result of Script: chrome://fctoolbar840a9155ba174c8f8c94bbb4f37f9413/content/dca/core/dca/utils/DCAPostDataParser.js:1

Often Firefox will 'freeze' operations in mail, Facebook, Twitter, and other web pages. Normally takes 30 seconds to 2-4 minutes (sometimes more) to run its course and return control and activity to me. It seems there is a script in Firefox which over-rides normal operation until it has concluded it full course.
Here is the link to the script:

  • My BetterPrivacy addon now Freezes firefox, causing a "Script: chrome//bp/content/bp.js:847" unresponsive notification. I'm still running Ff 3.6, and want to keep BetterPrivacy, but I have to disable it now. It worked just fine until recently.

I have to click on "Stop unresponsive script" to get Firefox to load, and then have to disable BetterPrivacy in order to use Ff normally. I haven't changed Ff or BetterPrivacy lately, to the best of my knowledge, but I can't use the BP add-on any longer.
Just in case, I also deleted my Chrome browser, which I had as a stand-by, but it didn't help. I still get "A script on this page is unresponsive: Script: chrome//bp/content/bp.js:847". Any ideas?
I'm not certain which version of BP I had when this problem started, but today I tried adding the latest version, 1.49, but still had same trouble.
Your "educated guess" is correct - Ff 3.616 and Vista.

I turned off the accelrator months ago. That was the first thing I did. It helped some. The problem is getting progressively worse, so it seems like every upgrade in the past 3-4 months is causing the problem.

  • Why do I get a continued msg that a script is not completing. It seems to be slowing my Mac: "Script: chrome://forecastfox/content/observers.js:1

A pop-up window keeps appearing with the message that a script is not completing correctly - " "Script: chrome://forecastfox/content/observers.js:1" I'm given the choice to a) let it continue in the hopes it will complete or b) cancel. No matter which choice I make, the little window persists up in the corner of my screen and then sometimes brings itself to the front again, so I get to make the choice all over again. Most annoying also because I can't close the little pop-up...it hides itself in the top left and appears as a small blank there. I have the distinct impression that it's making my Mac run slower... and I would love to get rid of it. It's not related to Firefox 5...it was there before with the previous version, too...and is one of the reasons I upgraded. I don't want Chrome, by the way...so it's also annoying to see its name in the offending script-name. I took a screen shot but can't figure out how to attach it to this description. It happens every time I open Firefox...not immediately but after a while.

Disable or uninstall the ForecastFox extension.

    Hi,
Please try couple of probable solutions as mentioned below:
    Solution 1:
    1. Close Elements.
    2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down Cmnd+ alt + shift as you click Editor.
    3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
Solution 2: In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall or make different printer as default.
Now launch PSE and check if it works.

  • Script: chrome://browser/content/places/browserPlacesViews.js:229

    Greetings!
I run Firefox on Windows XP3 Home, and I would appreciate your advice on some problems I have.
    When I click on Bookmarks, nothing happens for about 30 secs, then the following message appears;
"Script: chrome://browser/content/places/browserPlacesViews.js:229", and I can access my Bookmarks, but only once before the above is repeated. How can I solve this problem?
Also, I had previously imported my bookmarks, but they now show as two separate blocks, each in alphabetical listing. How can I combine them into a single listing?
Finally, I have a listing of ten Most Recently Bookmarked items where the tenth item vanishes when I enter a new bookmark, and none of these new items appears on the permanent list of bookmarks. How can I solve these issues?
Thank you very much for your help!
    With best wishes
    Aileks

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

jqs is the Java Quick Starter. If you disable it the issue should be resolved. For details of how to do that see http://www.java.com/en/download/help/quickstarter.xml
Also check Firefox add-ons and disable the Java QuickStart add-on. In the menu select Tools, then Add-ons to open the add-ons manager. Go to the Extensions panel, click on the Java QuickStart add-on to select it, then click on the Disable button.

  • Firefox Version 36.0 Hanging with odd Script: chrome://browser/content/places/browserPlacesViews.js Errors / Lost all bookmarks including Sync.

Hello - Yesterday 4 different PC's updated automatically to Firefox Version 36.0, they are all Windows 7 x64 Systems with the latest patches, one of them is a work / corporate PC running a slightly older version (34 I believe).
Since the update all of my bookmarks have been lost and seems that sync got wiped out as well. I had a few thousand bookmarks all organized in folders and they are all gone. Whenever I click on the bookmark menu item firefox will hang and eventually give me the following error with different numbers at the end of the line (varies on each system as well as the same system). See attached for an example.
    Script: chrome://browser/content/places/browserPlacesViews.js
Even if I start Firefox in Safemode I get the same results / behavior (the hanging) I can't even access the bookmarks menu to try and restore them from a backup. When I do that Firefox will hang and never come back, I have to go in to task manager and end the task.
I've tried "Refreshing" at work I tried uninstalling / installing the newest as well as a version 35 version of firefox and have the same exact issue. I removed all of the plugins, I've even tried a full on reset of firefox and have had no luck whatsoever .
It appears that I have lost about 10 years of various bookmarks but seem to have a somewhat up to date copy on one system with Chrome but Firefox won't even allow me to import the bookmarks as it will just hang.
I have Malwarebytes running on 3 of the systems, it hasn't found anything, I also have Microsoft Security essentials running and did full scans of each system and haven't found anything, there isn't any kind of add on / plug in that I can see that is causing this
Please help as I am now in a huge bind at work without all of my bookmarks!!!

Ok this did not resolve the issue, I downloaded the Places Maintenance Add on and ran it with all of the options selected, I also verified that this is not a permissions issue and ran chkdsk on the disk.
I am unable to make a backup of the bookmarks it just hangs and never makes the backup, I can't even export them either.
I went to the next step and renamed the places.sqlite file and restarted firefox which did restore my bookmarks from a previous backup but I still can't click on the bookmark menu option without firefox locking up .
How do I resolve this and how do I get my data back in to Sync?
If this file is corrupted does that mean that all of my linked browsers downloaded the same corrupt file from Sync? How do I resolve that, is there anyway to recover my history from any of my other PCs?
All that I did was when I was logged out of sync but want to know how I go about getting the info back in to Sync.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the ''Safe mode'' start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")
