Script disappeared

I've been running the desktop mode of Adobe Story on two separate systems - my laptop and my desktop PC, primarily the former, on which I created two separate scripts. This evening, I started a new project on the desktop machine, and put a couple of hours' work into a two-page script. I then saved my progress, switched off my desktop machine, moved back to my laptop and logged in. All that appeared were the two scripts I'd created on that. Panic rising, I hurried back to my desktop machine and logged into it. The same two scripts that I'd created on the laptop were all that appeared. The script I created on the desktop machine has vanished into thin air.
I suppose I have no-one but myself to blame for working on a project in a beta product without creating a backup, but it's still extremely frustrating and rather worrying if Story simply throws out data during the syncing process without checking first. I don't really understand how it happened as I was working online on both systems, and yet it's as if the script created on my desktop machine ever existed.
I guess I have two questions: (1) is there any way I can reclaim my lost script? and (2) is this normal behaviour when using the same account on two separate systems? Kinda makes me yearn for the good old USB stick method file sharing.

Script Disappearing in Acrobat 9

Hi,
I am having the problem that my Javascript keeps disappearing from the
Properties window randomly.
If I click "Add or Edit Form" and add some script to an Event, many
times it disappears. Totally random.
If I close the PDF file and open the file again, the script comes back.
If I save the PDF file after the script disappears, the script is gone
for good.
Do you guys have this problem?

Great. Thanks. I just changed it on my computer and it worked. I'll change it back now to my address. If my client wants to do it in future though, would they would need a copy of Acrobat Pro, not just Acrobat Reader? Or can you 'distribute' from Reader too? That would be great if you can, then the client can track the responses.

Some init scripts disappeared?

I upgraded using pacman -Syu yesterday, then I found some init scripts(/etc/rc.d/nginx /etc/rc.d/postgresql) disappeared.
I searched about it but found nothing.

Scripts disappearing from Illustrator 3 action palette

I'm starting to write some javascripts for Illustrator 3, Version 13.0.0.0. (It's part of CS3, if I understand right). I'm then turning the script into an action so I can assign a hotkey to it and because I wanted to deselect everything after the script runs, but the textFrame I changed selects itself after the script finishes. Once I close illustrator and reopen it, the parts of the Actions that were scripts are gone, the rest is there. If I save and load the actions, I get 'Some event has not been registered for action' errors, and the actions load without the scripts present.
How can I keep the scripts from disappearing or easily replace them?
If you feel up to it, how can I keep textFrames from selecting themselves after the script finishes running if I change their .contents, and is there a non-action way to hotkey a javascript?

Scripts can't be inseted into actions permanently.
On WIndows try and use system tools to assign shortcuts to scripts. Onthe Mac OS use Software like Spark.

Ical alert to run script disappears from the event

A few seconds after I set an alert for an event to run a script, the Run Script designation disappears and defaults to alert Message. I cannot make the Run Script designation stick. So, when the alert triggers, no script is run.

Are you syncing the calendars? Run Script alarms only work on local calendars, those under "On My Mac" in iCal.

Scripts Disappeared!

I've got a user who all of a sudden lost his scripts. They are still in the Scripts folder in the InDesign app folder. If I log in as another user, they show up fine, so it's something local to that account.
I've trashed the InDesign preferences and the com.adobe.InDesign.plist but that hasn't brought them back.
Anyone seen this before or have an idea how to get the scripts back?

Neal,
When you export an application, scripts are not part of the export file. On the scripts page in the SQL Workshop, please make sure you're looking at scripts for "All Users" by choosing the appropriate option from the select list. I think what may be happening is that the scrpts were created by someone other than who's currently logged in to the workspace.

HTMLEditorKit SCRIPT content disappears after read

I am trying to read and display an HTML Document using JEditorPane and HTMLEdiorKit. I am overridding javax.swing.text.html.HTMLDocument.HTMLReader class to read HTML document. My javascript content(functions) disappers when I read the html document. It only displays

</script>
All the content of the script disappears.
I tried to register script tag with a tag action class, still I can't see content.
I tried to use the orginal HTMLReder. It didn't help.
Any help is appreciated.

If your script code is wrapped by a comment the HTMLEditorKit is going to throw away the script - it doesn't understand any scripting language. If you take out the comment tags that wrap the script content, you'll probably see the script content as plain text. I'm not sure if there's a way to tell the HTMLEditorKit not to throw away comments.

Any easy to way to use custom scripts?

Is there any plug-in or whatever that gives me a separate window where i can just click to use custom script? Any other easy ways are fine.

You should be able to use the Actions palette for this. You can record the selection of a Script as an Insert Menu Item step in an Action. But this has been broken almost since the scripting functionality was added, in that the steps which invoke the scripts disappear from your stored Actions after Illustrator is quit and relaunched.
It would be a hugely useful thing if Adobe ever bothered to fix this. You could automate things that are a combination of operations that can be performed by Actions but not by scripts, and vice-versa. But people have been after Adobe to fix this for something like seven versions now.
You can organize the Scirpts menu into folders. And you can organize the Actions palette into Sets. It's just idiotic that Illustrator provides no mechanism for easy access to that organization, as does InDesign. Typical half-baked feature implementation.
But it's a moot point now, anyway. I really no longer care whether Adobe gets around to fixing the many, many things that Illustrator has so long needed, because I'm not going to pay monthly rent for Illustrator, even if they do. ;-)

IPCC Prompts disappeared

Unified CCX Premium 5.0(2).
Recently added a new Script with new prompts. Working fine till I rebooted server. The Prompts for the script Disappeared.
So when a call goes into script you get canned voice "are you there, are you there?". The Prompts for all the other scripts are still working fine...just the ones I added 3 weeks ago.
I can't locate the prompts in C:\Program Files\wfavvid\Prinots\user\en_US This is the location of all the other prompts.
My Question: Is thier another location that the prompts are stored in? And, what causes this to happen and what to do to prevent it from happening again?

Hi Derek,
The same response applies. Is your prompt recording step using the Write prompt or Upload prompt step? If it was the Write step only, then the same issue will appy. I have a sample script with the upload step if you are interested.

Kdm disappeared after 3.4 upgrade

It is still there on my machine using the new KDE 3.4 version, so there is probably something wrong.

An upgrade window appears when Mozilla is opened When this is clicked on Mozilla Firefox becomes redundant

When I open MF a script saying to install upgrade appears. When I click for the upgrade the script disappears and all icons for mozilla firefox become inoperable
Meaning that when clicking on the icon a message appears saying that the MF has been removed or shifted rendering the MF icons inoperable.
I have had to use the [restore to an earlier time] twice to reinstate the program to an operable state

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version of the Firefox installer.
Uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Is there a way to perform a saved Action from the Action Pallette using a JavaScript script? I know there is a way to do it with Visual Basic.
Is there a way to run a Visual Basic script from a JavaScript script?(which could be a potential workaround if JavaScript CANNOT call on an Action)
Is there a way to call on a JavaScript from an Action?
Here's specific information on my problem:
I am using Illustrator CS2 on a PC
I have written all of the JavaScript scripts that I need to perform various layer selection procedures and they all work perfectly. I have placed them in the Presets > Scripts folder so that they appear in my file menu.
I wrote a very long action that called on these scripts (using Insert Menu Item > then selecting the script by going File > Scripts) sequentially and did some selecting and copy-pasting and applying graphic styles in between scripts. The Action worked PERFECTLY and ran all the scripts I needed to an automated a process that usually takes me an hour in less than five minutes!
I saved the actions and saved the file.
After closing Illustrator all of the lines of the action that called on scripts disappeared! It seems this is a known bug...I currently know of no workaround.
Can anyone help with any of the following things:
1. Getting actions to SAVE the commands to run javascripts
2. Writing a JavaScript that runs an Illustrator Action
3. Writing a JavaScript that runs a Visual Basic script that runs an Illustrator Action.
I spent three days learning the basics of JavaScript (mostly by trial and error) and successfully wrote all the scripts I needed...I was overjoyed! But now that I've closed illustrator my actions to run said scripts do not work. PLEASE ADVISE!!!

Backup solutions for Mac environment

What are people using to backup their Xserves? I manage four Xserves and one IBM server. We have about 600GB of storage. I've been using an Exabyte 1U 1x10 library with the 320 drive. The software is Retrospect running off one of the Xserves.
I back up five times a week using two tapes per session but I'm omitting about 250GB of data. I'd prefer something that would also work with the IBM server.
I am NOT a trained IT person.

Although I would steer you clear of Restrospect unless it's on the Windows platform. I think most of the veteran users of this site would probably agree? Having said that there are some who have no problems with it. Who knows for you it might be the 'ideal' solution? However I have to ask: "If your data is precious to you do you want to risk it?" For me it's too unreliable when it comes to a restore. Something any Backup Strategy should include. Additionally there have problems with it since Roxio took it over - Scripts disappearing and media being lost etc.
I've not tried all of the ones listed and no doubt there may well be others. The ones I have tried I've had no problems with - NetVault and BRU. In some environments and depending on the circumstances I've had no problems with TimeMachine.

You could look at this another way? Purchase or Install BackupExec or Veritas or any one of the myriad backup software available for the platform and install on your Windows Server. Backup your Mac-based data either as a mapped network drive or by using the applications client utility - assuming there's one available for the software you eventually decide on?
