Any idea how to solve this if I haven't activated the 3GS service? I've been doing fine on wireless only.

Same problem here. After upgrading to iOS 4.2.1 a couple of weeks ago I'm getting the same error as the OP in the first post. I've never activated the 3G service.
I tried turning the cellular service on and checking for updates, pulled and replaced the SIM card, rebooted, nothing helps. I'm still getting the error when I click on the "Check for Update" button in iTunes (v10.1) when my iPad 64GB 3G is connected to my iMac. Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

  • Error 80072EE6 when checking for updates

Hi, I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 box that shows an error when Checking for updates.
When I go to Windows update and push "Check for updates" I get a message saying:
    Error(s) found: Code 80072EE6
I checked that download.windowsuodate.com is reachable
    Any ideas?

I tried installing MSXML 4.0 SP1 on the machine. But it didn't solve the issue.
Below you can find the log from today after I checked for update? I did a check for updates at 13:39. Below that I added a few other log lines before that as well.

    Is this what you meant?

  • Mail 2.1 and password error message when checking for incoming mail

I get a "password rejection" error message when Mail 2.1 tries to check for incoming messages and there are no messages to retrieve (I have an Earthlink account). I don't have any problems sending messages. When I send a test message to myself, Mail can retrieve it. When I check mail a few minutes later, I get the "password rejection" message from Earthlink. This also happens when I use MS Entourage (v10.1.6). I have been using Entourage for years and just recently started using Mail and this password problems seemed to appear recently (last few weeks).
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Since this happens in both Mail and Entourage, I don't know if it is Mac OS 10.4.10 or Earthlink. I tried Earthlink tech support and they were not much help.
    Thanks,
    Kenny

Problem resolved by itself. I think it was a problem with my ISP.

This is very very annoying and I can't download the latest software update (2.1)

Come on Apple - sort this out

Do you have any information about iTunes and iPhone software versions, whether you're running Microsoft'Anything' or Apple'Anything' as your operating system, your hardware platform and USB version, to name but a few missing details?
Come on now: "Come on Apple - sort this out!!!" might be on a wish-list somewhere, but which version 'crystal-ball' do you suggest is used to assist?
It is very very annoying, you're right, all round, but it is much easier to provide assistance and helpful suggestions if the combinations surrounding one specific area of the Universe that is affected can be minimised.....

  • Error message upon Check for Updates

When I checked for updates on Itunes it came up as up to date with version 8.0.2 but then a window with "The Ipod software server could not be contacted. An unknown error occurred (1453)."
Anyone know what it means? I have a 80gig Ipod Classic and I am trying find out if the firmware is up to date.

    Hiya,
an ipod CAN get corrupt just like any other harddrive disk (HDD). In essence, the ipod is a beautifully presented external HDD. Now, also, ipod is in essence comparable to a CD-RW (you can write, read and rewrite). The actual modifyable software, like games, mp3's and movies are on your mac / itunes.
So never bother with trying to "back up" your ipod (as this is not easily completely done) but instead ensure diligent backup of itunes.
You can do that to disk periodically via itunes, time machine or "backup".
As your ipod has been restored already, the above is for future reference.
    All you can do is, (and that what I would do), let itunes do the "dirty" work;
maybe refuse the firmware update 1.1.2 if offered. Mine runs perfectly after restoring to factory settings and running firmware 1.1.1.
A great movie guide to syncing here: http://www.expertvillage.com/video/27946_itunes-store-ipod.htm
    Good luck.

  • Error message after checking for updates says I do not have permission to install and to contact administrator. I am the only user/owner of this computer so I AM the administrator. How do I install the update? I am using a MacBook Pro.

MAC OS X 10.6.8. I can download and install a new version, but I'd rather just update. I can only assume this has to do with computer settings but I could not find anything settings that seemed related to this issue.
I currently have Firefox 3.6.3. I don't use it all that often.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    * Firefox 6.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

  • HT1338 when I click on software update it says ''An error occurred while checking for updates.'' Why does it say that?

So I bought a Powerbook G4 from a pawn shop and yes, I did check to see if it was still good. everything works fine but I need an update because I have OS X 10.3. So I connect to the internet and then I click on ''Software Update'' and I wait. But then a message opens saying ''An error occurred while checking for updates'' And I don't know why. HELP!!!

Something temporarily wrong with your internet connection?
Be aware that this is a very large file to download, it needs a strong consistent internet connection.
Have the iPhone on the charger cable too.
In the meantime read the threads in this forum about the visibility item and some other possible issues on the 4 and 4S (although a large number of people have these issues, it is still a minor percentage, but anyhow, be aware).

macbook pro - iPhoto keep prompting to update after Yosemite update. Error message when trying to update -This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.

I only have 1 apple ID and the same was used to set up this early 2011 macbook pro and iPhoto app. I don't want to loose out on any photos. I tried logging out of app store and back in but no luck. PLEEAASEE HELPP!!!
This problem has been reported by quite a few forum members, who skipped the update to iPhoto 9.5.1 while running Mavericks. In that case try to purchase iPhoto again instead of updating.
After making your backup try the following:
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the applications folder, but do not empty the Trash.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your AppleID.
Open the main page of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.
If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support, as Niel pointed out: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/

It sounds as if your browser and some of your apps are not color-managed.  This is pretty typical.  Even IE9 is only partially color-managed.
You can expect color-managed and non-color-managed applications to show you different things with the same images.  How different will depend upon how different your monitor color profile is from the image's color profile.
For web publication and most general use, experts usually advise saving images with the sRGB profile.  If such images, saved through the Save for Web & Devices function, look different to you than you expect, it may be that your input images have previously been saved in another color space.
You should really try to get your head around color-management by reading more on it.  It can seem baffling and it's difficult to understand without some background.  A quick web search turns up many overviews.  Beware, though, even people writing articles sometimes don't fully understand it.

  • "software update"  "An error occurred while checking for updates"

When I click on "Software Update", an error results, "An error occurred while checking for updates".  It is definitely connected to the internet.  I was gifted a G5 and I installed a new hard drive and loaded the OS, OS X 10.3.5.  That version of Safari does not display pages correctly.  E.g., support.apple.com/downloads just clocks on the righthand side of the page.
Because cannot access that link, cannot manually update the OS - I was thinking this version is "old" and as a result, unable to connect to apple's update server.  Thanks.

Thanks,  I upgraded with your info.
Ultimately, I am trying to access mail.google.com but receiving  the following error with opera v9.5.x: Some important features may not work in this version of your browser, so you have been redirected to the Basic HTML version.
Safari gives the following: Some important features may not work in this version of your browser, so you have been redirected to the Basic HTML version.
I can access ask.com and using opera to type this response.

I receive an error message when trying to update any of my applications.  Example  facebook, my world..etc...
    Error 40820 try later

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
While normally it is much more accurate to search with the accurate and complete error message, including all punctuation and error codes, in your case here is a KB that discusses that error:
KB28188"BlackBerry App World is having trouble connecting to the BlackBerry App World server. Verify your network connections and try again. (Error id: 40820) " error is displayed when opening App World on the BlackBerry smartphone
Hopefully it contains something useful! There also are multiple existing threads on this site that discuss that exact error...your review of those might prove useful, and a search of this site, using the error message, error code, or symptom, should reveal all applicable existing threads to you.
Good luck and let us know!

On My Mac Pro Getting an unknown error message when trying to update apps To Perchase Mountain Lion

Try signing out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again and see if that works for you.
Settings>Store>Apple ID - tap your ID and sign out.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Sign in again -Settings>Store>Apple ID - sign in.
If that doesn't work either, reset your iPad and see if that helps.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

Unable to update older ipad (model MB292LL) to ios 6 - when checking for update msg says ios 5.1.1 and is already up to date.

    That is correct.
    You have an original iPad.
iOS 5.1.1 is the end of the line - that is the latest iOS that model can use.
