Script parses, but some drives don't mount?

I have Kanaka 2.7 working and mounting volumes from one server, but it won't mount the drive located on another server. I can go to the Mac and mount the drive manually, so I know the login and AFP protocols are working correctly.
Any ideas?

See anything interesting in the Kanaka engine logs? Have you tried more
than one user? Have any other (dev/test/qa/prod) environments that work
differently? What are these two servers running, OS, SPs, services, etc.?
Good luck.

  • Installed a new Deskstar 7k1000 on a Mac Pro but the drive wouldn't mount

    Hi Everybody
I have recently purchased a new Mac Pro 8-core 2.8GHz computer from Apple UK, then I also purchased a Deskstar 7K1000 1TB SATAII hard drive from the internet. I tried to install the drive into the computer on Friday nite, soon I switched on the power the drive has started making some 'ticking' noise. Anyway, this is not the main reason why I decided to post a thread.
I have noticed the Deskstar didn't mount or appear on the desktop. I thought I might need to reformat the drive first, so I went to Disk Utility and again the drive did not show on the left navi panel. I had a search on the internet and knew that this drive is compatible with Mac Pro, so why my deskstar drive wouldn't appear/mount on the desktop? Is it something I have missed or done wrong here? Or the drive itself is faulty?
I have already tried to contact the manufacturer (Hitachi) but they only answer half of my question (the noise issue), they never explain or tell me why the drive wouldn't mount, and how to make it appear on the desktop. I seriously need some help here!!!
    Cheers, Everyone!

Just received a replacement hard drive, same model and spec as the previous one, but it works perfectly, so yes the other drive was DOA.

  • Firewire drives don't mount after 10.4.3 update

    G3 B&W
    OS 10.4.2
Everything working fine with 10.4.2. Two 3rd party external firewire drives mounted and working. Had not installed any 3rd party drivers. Updated to 10.4.3 and neither will mount. Don't show in System Profiler either. Is fix to "back up" to 10.4.2? Help?
    Bill Bevan
    Offline: [email protected]

    Matthew,
Thanks for the tip but the disconnect/power down didn't work. I also zapped the PRAM. Additional information: Firewire drives do mount when running OS 9.2.2 alone. Under OS 10.4.3 System Profiler does not show any Firewire devices. Of course, I could boot up Classic in 10.4.3 but that seems like the long way around, and I am in the process of weaning myself off of OS 9.
I noticed from some recent posts that a lot of people are losing device connectivity when updating to OS 10.4.3.

  • External Firewire Drives Don't Mount.... i need a guru.

    Warning!!!!!
    i'm going to ramble....
2 much sake .. heh heh
i just got a brand butt spanking new iBook G4 14" 1.42 GHz
    Tiger pre-installed.
I ran Software Update. As you can tell by my info, i'm at 10.4.2 now.
In a minute i'll tell ya how i got BACK to 10.4.2 from 10.4.5
When i got my iBook I didn't plug my external firewire drives in until (about 2 days) after my update. So when i did get around to building my iTunes library, well, no luck.
My firewire drives would and do NOT mount!
By the way these particular peripherals are Western Digital firewire
    http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/stdadp.php?p_faqid=694&pcreated=1036793224
    and AcomData Combo USB 2.0/Firewire
    http://www.acomdata.com/hdp/fs.html
    drives.
With a little exploration you'll find (at least i did) that they do not have firmware or driver updates for Mac. ( if you find them i'll give ya praise!)
The AcomData drive mounts with USB but not with firewire. The thing that
creeps me out is that my 3rd Gen firewire enabled iPod mounts right up no prob!
Another thing that ties me in knots is that these drives WILL MOUNT on my iBook12" running 10.3.9, as well as my old 5cH00L iMac DV 10.3.9!!!!
I thought it might be the Update so i did a clean install with the dvd provided by Apple and now i'm back to 10.4.2 but still no luck.
I've tried repairing permissions, starting, restarting, rebooting, plugging, unplugging, Updating, Downgrading, standing on my bloody head, looking all over the dotcom.
i swear i did all this with my peripherals unplugged.
i caught wind that though these companies may not provide updates for Mac, if i were to find out the companies that make the "chipsets?" within these drives that i might have luck.
i can't figure out what kind of "chipsets" (Oxford?) are in these drives or what to do if i knew anyway!
    exhale
i still believe i have the best machine on the planet right now but .......
    i need a guru.
    help.
    much obliged,
    Clive
 G4 iBooks. iMac DV (graphite). gen 2,3,5 iPods Linux on the Pod too!   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    Hi, Clive.
Here is some general troubleshooting advice that may help:
    (1) Review the AppleCare Knowledge Base document "What to do if your computer won't recognize a FireWire device".
    (2) If this problem occurred after installing a recent Mac OS X Update, and you are also unable to mount CDs, DVDs, or disk images perform the steps in this Mac OS X Hints article.
    (3) The following additional steps will often help resolve problems with FireWire devices, particularly hard drives:(a) Power-on the FireWire drive before starting up (booting) your Mac.
    (b) Reset PRAM and NVRAM.
    (c) Reset the PMU or SMU: In the case of your iBook, I believe the article you want is "Resetting PowerBook and iBook Power Management Unit (PMU)." You can also check the manual that came with your new iBook.
    (d) Try a different FireWire port. James Wiebe, CEO of WiebeTech, has published FireWire Port Failures in Host Computers and Peripheral Devices, a white paper providing backgroud information and technical analysis concerning the causes of failure for FireWire ports. This may provide additional diagnostic information.Note that some of the information above is from the "FireWire Problems" chapter of my book, Troubleshooting Mac® OS X.

  • FireWire drives don't mount

    Hello everybody,
my trusted LaCie 500GB and 250GB drives worked flawlessly since I bought them. Since two days they are not mounting. About a monthe ago I upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.4.7. Everything worked fine.
I very frequently repair permissions and use Onyx for maintenance of my computer. I reset PRAM and VRAM. I did the power cycle suggestion, turning ewverything off, unplugging all devices, unplugging all power supplies etc.
    All to no avail.
My system.log in console reads every second over and over again:
    ... -Computer kernel[0]: AppleFWOHCI_AsyncTransmit::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
    My console.log continuously repeats:
...-Computer root[175]: [MAFL] attempt to make FSSpec for "121-210.cypress" failed -120\n
...-Computer root[175]: [MAFL] attempt to make FSSpec for "210.cypress" failed -120\n
...-Computer root[175]: [MAFL] found no firmware to load for 210\n
Is there anyone who can help me, please?
I am at the end of my knowledge.
    Thank you!

Thank you again for your reply.
I did try the HD on my friends older PB and all was fine.
Resetting the PMU did not solve the problem.
All other applications (but Logic, because I could not access my files) were running smooth.
Going back to 10 a.m. yesterday, basically starting over, there was one thing I missed checking: the AC to DC converters supplied by LaCie for their drives.
Voilá! Individual testing revealed, that the AC/DC converter for the first LaCie drive in my chain did not spin up any of my other six LaCie drives (which I never run all at the same time).
Changed power supply and now I am back to the fast speed and glitch free system I love. Back to enjoying work as well
Thanks for your suggestions. I appreciate them very much.

  • Internal working Drives Don't Mount

    My Machine;
Model Identifier: MacPro4,1 (Nehalem).Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 3,32 GHz,Number Of Processors: 1, Total Number Of Cores: 4, Memory: 8 GB
I inserted 3 additional Hard disk in the various slots.
System Profiler and Finder only display 3.
Each drives works and each slot works, however the machine seems to be unable to mount them all.
I moved the drives to every slot and each mounted but only showing 3. All other HD Utiities did nothing (Disk Worrior, and so  on). Which Drives mount s Random.
    What can cause this problem?
My machine was made in Ireland, I wanted more power: the Apple store assemblet it accortding to my needs.
The disk Iwnat to insert are 1 t or 2T. I t seems as if the Nehalem does not care about the capacity of the drives. I can mount 3 for a total of 5 tb, or still 3 GHD for a total of 5TB. In other words the capacity of the drives makes no difference, only the number.
The Apple Store doesn't understand this problem and suggest asking this community as my Mac Pro works perfectly and uses his original System Snow Lepard which is ok to me (I dislike Leos as they Killed Rosetta for mysterious reasons)

I'm sorry but probably I was unable to write my question: I will try again.
If I added 3 drives to my Mac in the 3 empty drivew slots available in my configuration.
Once booting, one of them RANDOMLY does not mount.
I have a Western DIgital Original with 10.6.8 System in it which came with the Machine. I never wanted nor attempted to initialize it.
    I purchased
    disk A (Western DIgital 1TB)
    disk B (Western DIgital 2TB)
    )disk C (Western DIgital 2TB)
All drived initiaiized with GUID, none of them hss more than one partition.
Not mounting RANDOMLY means at times with the original system the Mac mounts disk I get Disk B and Disk C
other times  mounts disks A and disk C
other times  mounts disks A and disk B
This suggest that the capacity of the disk is irrelevant.
Each drive functions perfectly according to every available tests, Systme Profiler, Disk Warrior and othe Utilities
They all display Make, Model, capacity and free space.
To perform the test I removed one drive so the machine had only 3 drives to mount. The drives mounted quickly and went through the Verify disk and Replace Directory (in DISK WORRIOR)without  any problem.
After swtiching off I moved the drives arounf in the 4 slots and gotthe same succesuful result.
I repeated the testwith every drive in every slot..
I also instlled each drive in every of the  four available slots in my MACPRO to make sure each slot hardware they worked
Every time rebooting the Mac with 3 Hard Drives in any of the slots was succesful
Every time I attempr rebootimg with 4 drives (one in every slot) the Mac only Mounts 3 drives.
YOur reply tells me you did not read my post attentively enough
My Local Apple store thinks is a Power Problem, as if the power is unable to mount the machines ... but this is only a guess -

  • Upgraded to the EA3500 from the E2000, but some webpage don't load

I recently upgraded from the E2000 to the EA3500 to get simultaneous 5Ghz for my computers and 2.4 for my mobile devices that don't support 5Ghz. My only problem now is that for some reason, I'm getting alot of webpages that refuse to load, or that a very long time, while others are fine or even faster then they used to be. for example, facebook is fine, can't connect to Vimeo at all, even this cisco forum, in order to come and post I had to switch back to my E2000. There has to be something I'm doing wrong somewhere...  I compared my setting from both devices and they all seem to match... I've tried to troubleshoot a bit to pin point where the problem might be, but no success. I tried for instance to disable the 5Ghz network, (the primary diference between the two devices) and even when I connect to the 3500 only on the 2.4Ghz network the problem persists!
any help solving this issue would be great, for now I'll just have to stay on my E2000...

so this issue is experienced only on the wireless devices? how many wireless devices are experiencing the same issue? have you checked whether a wired connection also has restricted access? please do and post the results.
also, disable any firewall running on your system. look out for AVG, norton, mcafee and the like. it might be preventing you from accessing those websites!

  • USB drives don't mount

I have a problem with my brand new macbook. When connecting usb thumb drive or external usb hard drive to the computer nothing happens. There isn't disk image on the desktop or in the finder sidebar. The drive doesn't show on disk utility.
With thumb drive there isn't any system messages at /var/log/system.log or any events with dmesg.
With the external usb drive there is following message at /var/log/system.log
USBF: 29698.842 AppleUSBEHCI[0x557e800]::Found a transaction past the completion deadline on bus 253, timing out!
How ever, if I connect usb universal card reader to my macbook and insert memory card from my digital camera is is recognised. So the port is functioning fine with that.
What should I do to get the system working with my usb drives?
I've updated my system to the latest with software update.
    murkus

    Hi Murkus,
try to reset your PRAM to "refresh" your usb port.
Check the thumbdrive and external HD web site for firmware updater / patch on their sites.
And if you have power adapter for the external. try to use that too, or use Y usb cable to connect both end on one side to macbook to get more power and the other single end to your external.
Also try to leave those connected and restart your macbook, hopefully it will mount during start up process.
    Good Luck.

  • How to keep an internal drive from being mounted on startup?

Other than opening the box and disconnecting them physically, how do I keep an internal drive from being mounted at startup? I have two problems:
    1) despite having an SSD drive marked as the startup drive, I think one of my other drives is being considered first - startup takes a long time and it shows the gray circle with a line through it, before acquiescing into booting (rapidly and nicely) from the SSD drive. How do I make it ignore the other drives and go right for this?
    2) when the system boots up, if I don't immediately dismount the internal drives (which I don't need most of the time), Time Machine and Spotlight begin going over them.
other than physically removing them, anything I can do in some OS X boot script to keep those drives from being mounted?

Ok, I followed your directions (including de-seleccting and re-selecting the SSD as boot disk from System Preferences). Console: there was nothing under System Diagnostic Reports, but here's what the All Messages logs said after the Boot_Time that demonstrated my issue (3 min wait, then gray circle with a line through it, then finally rapid boot off the SSD). Is there anything here that shows what the heck it's doing before it actually boots off the SSD?

  • Ipod on Xbox 360, some songs don't show up

I recently bought an Xbox 360, I have been using my Ipod to listen to music but some songs don't show up in Xbox playlist, particularly the music I have bought and downloaded from Itunes music store, Is it some kind of protected format, what can I do to fix it, any help would be great, thanks

This isn't foolproof but there are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song has no album name associated with it or 2) the song is marked as part of a compilation.
If tracks are missing an Album name (as mentioned above) in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances but the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod
Also if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder which may be why this happens.

  • Flash drive/discs don't mount

I have a flash drive and three flash discs that mount in OSX on an iBook, but not on a Titanium with OS9. System Profiler shows them all plugged into the USB port, but they do not appear on the desktop. File Sharing and Foreign File Access are enabled. I've tried several different things but cannot get them to mount. They are all supposed to be OSX and OS9 compatible. Any thoughts, please?
    Thank you,

In some cases there is a conflict with Apple's USB
Extensions The major conflict I found is named
something like- USB Mass Storage ...
You see from Mac OS 9.1 and above (to 9.2.2) all the
USB Mass Storage stuff was to be built into the MAC
OS. However the installer seems to add that Extension
anyway. I trashed mine, as you can tell, I already
forgot the full name of the Extension. For yourself I
recomend in pulling it out of the Extensions (folder)
and reboot your computer. Otherwise post back if you
    were not successful.
It is USB Mass Storage, and the cards don't seem to work with or without it. They do show up in ASP, though; they just don't mount.
They not require (or have) drivers.
    I'm flummoxed.

  • I have an iPod Touch but I currently don't have a PC.  I found an app that would allow me to connect to my network drive and I was able to transfer music files to it.  These files do not show under the Music app and I can't find any way to do it.

I need help from some Apple people. I have an iPod Touch and I wanted to load it up with some fresh music but I currently don't have a PC. I found an app that would allow me to connect to my 2TB network drive directly and I was able to transfer a bunch of music files to the iPod. Unfortunately, these new files do not show under the Music app and I can't seem to find any way to convince the iPod that they are music. I can play them through the file manager only. Android doesn't have this problem, any music I put on my phone is recognized as music and can be played through any of the music apps. Am I missing something or is Apple to inflexible to handle this?

You can't. The only way to get songs in the Music app is to sync from a computer or to download from iTunes.

  • I have iTunes Match, but some of the music I loaded from CDs and I can see in the iTunes store won't play. It recognizes the album but is playing literally the only 3 songs I don't want to listen to.

have iTunes Match, but some of the music I loaded from CDs and I can see in the iTunes store won't play. It recognizes the album but is playing literally the only 3 songs I don't want to listen to.
How do I get to play all of my music that should be stored either on the computer or in the cloud?

    Hi,
Initially your music should be in your iTunes library on your computer. Once match completes its scan, your music will have been matched or uploaded. I suggest that you add iCloud status column to song view. This will tell you what has been matched, uploaded, purchased, inelligible, duplicate or waiting. What is the status of your tracks that are not playing.
If space is not an issue, I suggest that you keep the music on the internal hard drive otherwise you can delete the tracks and play from cloud. In both instances, you should maintain a back up of all your music on a separate hard drive.

  • Some NTFS drives will not mount - PLEASE HELP

For years I have heard "Apple fan-boys" preaching about how MAC is much better than PC.  I am one of the idiots that bought into the hype, and I am regretting it tremendously.  I spent over $4000 this month converting my family's computers from PC to Mac, and I am finding it to be one of the biggest mistakes of my life.  I have had nothing but problems.
My latest and greatest problem is getting my Mac(s) to mount and read some NTFS drives.  I know NTFS does write on MAC without external software, but I am not trying to write NTFS with my Macs.  I bought a Glyph 8TB external hard drive that is formatted for Mac.  I am simply trying to take five different NTFS external hard drives, and drag their data onto my new 8TB Glyph drive that is formatted to Mac.  Here is where it gets weird.  I have 2 Samsung 500GB drives (NTFS) that mounted automatically, read and data transferred to my new Mac formatted drive (HTP+) without any problems.  But I have 2 Glyph 6TB (NTFS) drives, and a Toshiba 2TB (NTFS) drive - none of which will mount.  They didn't mount automatically, like the Samsung drives.  They do all show up in disk utility, but when you click "mount" is gives you the "mount failed" error (with the "repair" option grayed out, and unavailable).  When plugged back into a PC, all three of the drives function perfectly - so clearly the drives are fine.  I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can help.  I have spent an entire day of my life searching forums for resolutions on this one simple issue.  I see a ton of people are having similar issues.  Unlike PC forums that have always been easily able to resolve my major issues with a quick search, it seems that these NTFS mounting issues have Apple, and the entire Apple community, stumped.
To anyone considering the Mac vs. PC conversion, think long and hard before you convert to Mac.  The Macs are more fun for video, music and photo editing.  But for every other practical application I find that PC was much better.  I am regretting giving Apple over $4000 of business.  I wish that I could return all 4 Macs that I purchased.
    My relevant system info:
    Macbook Pro 13"
    Intel i7, 8GB memory, 750GB HD
    OS X 10.9.4

I can't seem to find a way to edit my initial post (stupidly, it only shows the edit tab on replies).  I just want to correct the 6th sentence of my original post.  It was meant to read:
"I know NTFS does NOT write on MAC without external software, but I am not trying to write NTFS with my Macs."
