Script saving .png
For Photoshop CS5:
Hi,
I need a script, which allows me to take the .png file i am working on, and save and replace it in the existing location with the exact same name:
Without creating the "copy.png" string and preferebly without have to choose "Interlaced" or "None".
That would be a huge time saver!
So why not ask over in the Scripting Forum?

Photoshop CC 2014 Crashes When Opening or Saving PNG Files
I'm having an issue where opening or saving PNG files causes my copy of Photoshop CC 2014 to crash.
I've updated to the latest version, restarted my computer and have no plugins installed. I have also re-installed the program from the Creative Cloud application, although I haven't tried a full uninstall/reinstall sequence.
I'm running an x64 version of Windows and have tried both the 64 and 32 bit versions of Photoshop - neither works.
Other file formats don't appear to cause any issue - the problem is specific to PNG files (does Adobe Photoshop depend on any PNG library like LibPNG? Perhaps an older version has been installed by a different application?)
This issue seems to have occured in the past on the Adobe forums, but there is no clear resolution.Part of the information is missing but your running CC 14.1.2 not CC 2014, and14.1.2 needs to be updated to 14.2.1. I also can not see the date of you video drivers. Here is what my CC 2014 and my 14.2.1 looks like

Photoshop not saving pngs properly
My team and I have been having issues with generate image assets not saving png files correctly. Photoshop has been saving them with the png extension, but the file has a white background like a jpg. Has there been in recent updates that may be causing this? Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
I think the default with Generator is 24 bit, but I tried an 8 bit one and I was able to get transparency. Can you post a screen shot of you layer pallet to see what you've got? Here's a sample with a layer forcing an 8 bit png and the result - pretty bad quality - png 24 is much better!

Photoshop stopped saving "PNG" files
Hi All...
My photoshop stopped saving PNG files today. Weird!
I reinstalled my software, all disc's, and it still won't save. It says there is a 'program error".
Any one have any thoughts?
Thanks. Please describe the process in more detail (including OS etc.).
Boilerplate-text:
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)? -
Is there way to make a script that says: open the save dialog box,
but with the png format already selected ? or with the last format saved selected.. ?
Because I need to save a lot of png's one after another with diffrent names,
but all png's and it's always set to psd...
Thank's!Do you need to make it an interactive save why not just save the png file without a dialog at all if you know the file name you want.
Beeing lazy I just did a save as PNG and captured the scriptlistener code here is an interactive save as you could make a funcrion out of it. Replace the hard coded path for my desktop with a path var.

Saving png with Cut Countour in illustrator as .eps = Gigantic file size
Hi
When saving a png (size= 32mb) in illustrator, with a layer on top with a vector-path (Cut contour for a roland cutter) the .eps file ends up being 800 mb??
I tried saving only the layer with med vector path as an eps. The vector .eps ends up being 5,5 mb.
When adding the .png (32mb) on a seperate layer, and then saving as an eps. This eps (png+vector) ends up 800mb.
It is a big print ( 125cmx218cm)
Anyway to make this file-size a bit smaller?
/RikkeYou'll need to outline the text and provide the mask image.
Apart from that: looks to me like a problem with resolution. There's a structure in your exported file, but it's smoothed.
Without knowing what exactly you did step by step it's difficult to solve this problem. -
When opening a previously saved png. file how do you show its layers?
I was trying to save a large file as a Photoshop PDF and my program crashed. I was lucky enough to have saved this file in both a JPEG and PNG format onto my desktop but now once I move the files back into Elements, I have no history and no layers?
No, that's right. History is only for the current session--any time you close a file its history gets cleared. And neither jpeg nor png files can have layers. If you want layers you need to save as tiff or psd. (PDFs can be layered, but not the basic pdfs that PSE can create, and PSE can't deal with a layered pdf file as a layered file, either.)

Problems opening and saving PNG over network with CS2 and CS3
using os10.4.11
photoshop CS2 or CS3
I've recently tried to save images in PNG format, small (no more than a couple hundred kilobytes) and found that whenever I tried to save to the server it would hang photoshop and require a force-quit. Saving the same file to the desktop works fine. Copying said file to the network and then trying to open that PNG from the server results in a photoshop hang, while opening that same file from the desktop works fine. I know all about the fact that Adobe doesn't support working over a server, but that's never been an issue at my workplace in all the years I've worked with (never had problems saving/opening any format, no corrupted files ever). If I try to open that same PNG from the server with CS2, same result. If I try to open it over the server using Photoshop CS, or version 7, however, it opens just fine. If I copy the Photoshop CS version of the PNG plugin and replace the PNG plugin installed with CS3 by default, then it seems to work and I can now open and save PNGs anywhere with no problems. Has anyone else had this problem? I can see that the file size of the PNG plugin has changed version to version, so something about it has changed. It seems as though there is something defective about the ones installed with CS2/3, and just copying the CS version into my CS3 folder clears up the problem.
Also, the problem is not limited to my computer. Other macs that try to open PNG files from the server using CS3 or 2 also hang.Yes, we're a prepress company moving around probably a few dozen gb of data per day, saving PSD, TIFF, EPS, JPEG, all kinds of formats. It's the first time I've had a client requesting PNG files, and so the issue has come to light. This is the first time I've ever seen any kind of issue opening/saving across our network in 8 years. (the only time I've ever seen a corrupt file was a 1.6gb image that didn't copy correctly, and that wasn't a photoshop-related corruption, but an OS drag/copy of the file)
I'm not sure if I'll be able to find someone with OS 10.5 or some other version to see if they cause problems. If anyone else reading this who works over a network can test a PNG open/save over their network and list their OS and Photoshop version it may help. I'm going to see if I can find some other computers to try it out on in the meantime and mention it to IT. -
Colour loss when saving PNGs.
Hi there,
I'm fairly new to photoshop and am having a few difficulties when saving a PNG.
I'm using a Mac Book Pro.
I'm using Photoshop CS6.
The problem I'm encountering is when I save a PNG file I'm losing a lot of colour saturation. It goes from a vibrant red to a dull red colour.
The workspace is RGB 8bit.
I'm using the SAVE AS function because I don't want it for web I need it for print and I need the transparent background too.
The only way I've managed to get the full colour is by using the save for web option and selecting PNG-24.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.I'm using the SAVE AS function because I don't want it for web I need it for print and I need the transparent background too.
Then I see no reason for using png but think you should use psd.
The workspace is RGB 8bit.
Workspaces are something completely different in Photoshop (and concern Panels, Menus etc,) and RGB is not a Color Space but a Color Mode.
What is the image’s Color Space or if it isn’t embedded what is your RGB Working Space (Edit > Color Settings)? -
Saving png photos with different names..
Hello guys,
I am not not so familiar with Labview so i would like some help. I have a Vi which is actually controlling 32 RBG lights. We use DMX protocol..everytime one led is on then we take a picture and then the led goes off..Then the second goes on end so on..we have 8leds in 4corners..So we have corner1_led1,corner1_led2 untill corner4_led8 .So in the end we have 32 png photos saved. What i want is to save the photos with different names and the numbers to start from 1 instead of 0.. For example if we select white light and save the images as "new" the images are going to be named "new_white_0_0" instead of "new_white_1_1" . Do you have any idea how i can change it?
Attached current photos names and Vi.
Any comment would be helpful.
Thank you.

I noticed from your VI that you do a lot of string concatenation to build the file name/path, you can use the format into string and build path VIs to make the block diagram look a little simpler. You could also update the deprecated functions (e.g. the open file) with the modern equivalents.

Saving png w/transparent background and blend mode
I have a logo that I want to layer on top of a background image that will together act as the header for the webpage.
The easy thing to do would be to create an image on photoshop layering the background image and the logo, with the logo blend effect, and then save and upload. Problem is that I want the background image to resize with the browser window - without resizing the logo.
Therefore, I figured I could save the background image and logo files separately, and then layer them using HTML and CSS. For it to look comparable therefore, I want to keep the background of the logo transparent. I would also like to set the blend mode of the logo to linear dodge (add) - so that whatever size the background image is scaled to, the logo remains the same size, with the same blend mode. The problem is that when I save the logo as a transparent png file (24-bit), it is not maintaining the blend mode.
What am I doing wrong?
(Photoshop CS4)Blending modes are algorithms in the rendering device/ application (Photoshop, other image editors, browsers), not data. there is no way to retain them just by saving to a specific format. if you dumbed down PS and removed all belnding modes, it would behave just the same as your browser.

Problem - Photoshop Saving PNG files too large
An issue has recently cropped up with Photoshop for me.
Whenever I try to create a png-24 object using "Save for Web", in the program it will tell me that the file should be only around 1kb, it will end up in the folder 10-15kb, much more than I had intended.
This has only started happening recently, and when I have asked co-workers to try and export the same psd files using the same method, the exported pngs are the correct 1kb sizes. So the problem is only with my copy of Photoshop.
Currently I'm running Photoshop 10.0.1 on Windows XP Professional.
Has anyone else come across this problem, or know how to fix it? I've tried deleting my Preference file, but that didn't correct the issue. Please describe the process in more detail (including OS etc.).

Serious problem with saving pngs and transparent bgs!
I just started using Fireworks CS6 and I'm having trouble with pngs. I did the function a million times in CS5. I'm simly doing an image preview and savings as a png32 with a transparent background and no matte color. But it keeps saving with a white background. Has something changed from CS5 to CS6 in the way pngs save? I use this funtiin quite often and it's really irritating that's it's not working right in CS6. I hope it's my error but I would appreciate any help or insight. For now I'm going back to CS5 because it's works correctly.
Thanks!
BCSo does this problem exist in the editing, layout, or publishing stages of your workflow?
The reason I ask is that there are some situations where I don't necessarily expect to see transparency rendered accurately. For example, in Mac OS 10.6.8, files with transparency are given a white background by the Finder. But those same files will look fine in Preview or when viewed using the Quick Look feature:
I'd be really concerned, for example, if the transparency was not rendering in Dreamweaver's Design view, as that could interfere with the creative layout process. But I'd be less concerned if it doesn't appear in Bridge.
That said, if it's been rendered correctly by Bridge in previous versions, I understand your concern. If the problem is localized to Bridge, I'd scour its preferences and interface for any relevant settings. I'd also consider whether your operating system has been updated recently.
FOLLOW-UP: You could also take a look at the Bridge forum. Apparently, others have had concerns about this.

Saving png images at 72 pixels resolution
Hi,
I have been creating images for our Flash designer, saving them in Fireworks as png images. We recently discovered that they are being saved at 71.89 pixles resolution, while in the Flash they need to be 72 pixels. To solve this problem the designer has to open the pngs in Photoshop and resave them as a png, which is a problem.
Is this difference in resolution due to both PhotoShop and Fireworks being different products and originally from different companys, or due to me working on a PC and our Flash designer working on a Mac.
Can I set Fireworks to save pngs by default at 72 pixles resolution so any further images I create work in our Flash movie?
StephenHi,
I've just found out that the Flash designer is using Virtual Desktop on their mac, and doing their development in the virtual pc enviroment. Not sure if the Mac way of interpreting image resolutions is 'passed' to the virtual PC? My Fireworks is set up as 72 pixels/inches as the resolution so I think the mac/pc differences is still the cause of the problems.
Thanks
Stephen
