Scripting and using Acrobat pro X

Can anyone point me in the direction of help and support specifically for a total beginer on acrobat pro X. I have worked through various help files for other versions but some things just are not clear. Perhaps it is a installation error? Creating a simple word file in either Word 2011 for mac or pages will not convert with text recognition into pdf. This is just the start of an array of issues. automatically changing the text in a text box dependant on the value of combo box etc.
please help...

I have created a number of documents in Word 07, or in Pages. The documents have been saved as pdf as you described using cute pdf or print and pdf. The problem is that when I try and recognise the text in acrobat X I get a message about the font not being supported. I have tried using different fonts that do exist in Pro X, but get the same message. How can I overcome this. I want to edit the pdf after using the wizard to add the fields etc.
Secondly, when I write a simple script to display certain fields dependant on a choice in a combo box, the script fails to run, or that is how it appears. I was supported by another user who wrote the script for me, I cut and pasted this and it still did not work. However when I copied and pasted their fields into my document and renamed everything, hey presto. The settings/properties where all the same, I put both docs next to each other and checked the field properties one at a time working through each tab. I thought about using the debugger and looking at the values of key variables to see if things were changing or being accessed, but I was unable to set watches.
Hence I'm looking for a reference guide to pro X and a suitable debugger to check syntax etc because I just cannot understand what is going wrong here. I also noticed that on the debugger, the combo box for script, console sometimes is only 1/2 visible.
I have used PASCAL in years go by and an used to a set by set debug, is there something available for javascript for free?

Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.

You can download the setup file again from this Link (Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | XI, X ) and Burn it to a DVD Disc using Windows Explorer.

How do I edit a "fill and print form" using Acrobat Pro XI?

We recently upgraded to Adobe Acrobat Pro, version 11. We have some staff who previously created "fill and print" forms with Adobe Acrobat 10. However, now when they try to use version 11 to edit the form, they receive the following message: This form cannot be edited in Acrobat. Please use Adobe LiveCycle Designer to edit this form.
If I remember correctly, version 10 (or some package suite) use to install LiveCycle along with version 10. This doesn't seem to be the case with version 11. So... How do we obtain LiveCycle Designer? Is it still available to install on a desktop or is it only available in the cloud? Or, preferably, is there a way to edit the form using Acrobat Pro version 11?
I don't work with Adobe forms, so any information you can provide will be extremely helpful. Thanks.

LCD forms can only be edited in LCD. However, Adobe stopped distributing LCD together with Acrobat. You need to purchase it separately now, but if you had a previous license you can get it at a large discount, I think. Try the LCD forums for more info about that.

You can click on accept or buy ,which ever option you see on that dialog box.It will prompt you to type in your Adobe Credentials.You can license it by doing the same.
If it still doesn't work ,follow these steps and see how it goes .
Delete all the files from following folders:
[Home]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/SLStore
[Home]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/SLCache
And, delete all files from following folder except cache.db
[Home]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AdobePCD
Then launch Acrobat and try to activate and check.

Which signature style are you talking about?
You can go ahead and try uninstalling and reinstalling it and see if that works for you .

Problems using Acrobat Pro to scan with 10.5.2 and HP7280

I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm trying to use Acrobat Pro to create PDF via scan. The scanner I have is an HP Photosmart C7280 all in one. When I try to use it, it starts up HP Scan Pro and gives option is scan to Acrobat. Unfortunately, when I ask it to do so, it crashes Acrobat.
Any ideas on what to do to make this work?

As for Adobe/HP.
They have had a long running feud of Sorts for years running.
there was a very long period that spanned several versions of Acrobat, and HP Print Driver Updates. where every time adobe issued an update for Acrobat. Hp had to turn around and issue an update to their print Drivers.
The controversy swilled around If a Pdf was printed through acrobat or Reader to an Hp Printer all you would se was a series of very fine line screwed sideways much like looking at a TV screen the Horizontal hold adjustment was out of whack.
I'm sure Aandi , and Mike as well as myself posting thousands of times over the years to use the work around of going to print menu advanced and choosing print as image. And if it cleared the problem, to get on the horn with HP and let them know their driver was broken.
HP would fix it it work for a month and Adobe would do another update, and the same thing would happen.
It would be like the joke about Peat and repeat sat on a fence. If Peat fell off who's left? Pete. Then you would say repeat. And the person telling everything would repeat until you caught on.
You would think that a Software That depending highly on how printers would print would actually have sample of printers from the printer vendors to test on.
I also find it strange you never hear of any other printers having as much problems with adobe products.

You didn't forget to Advanced menu and set Reader Rights.Once you do that then, they can save and send back to you.

Java Scripting in Adobe Acrobat Pro

Company that I work for wants to create a form using Acrobat Pro with Java Scripting that allows access to data source. Is that possible? It is only being sent out to 350 people. Would we have to purchase LiveCycle still? Would really appreciate any input. Thank you

Depends on a couple of things.
Do you have Acrobat X Pro or Acrobat XI Pro?
If you have Acrobat X Pro then you also have Adobe LC Designer and can use an XFA based form with OLEDB to connect to your data source.
If you have Acrobat XI Pro then Adobe LC Designer is no longer included and you would be creating an AcroForm. In that case then "No" an OLE database source would not be directly available. But you could use a webservice to achieve similar results with Acrobat JS if you were using a web server.

Designer refuses to use Acrobat Pro for Preview

every now and then, Designer (9.002) stops using Acrobat Pro as its preview engine and wants to use Acrobat Reader. I have no idea what causes this. So when you try to preview your document, Designer tries to launch a thread using AcroRd32.exe and since Acrobat.exe is running, it refuses to display anything.
This means you cant use the JavaScript debugger in Acrobat Pro to debug your scripts.
This is getting incredibly frustrating because there doesnt seem to be a way to tell Designer to play nicely with Acrobat Pro again.
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, but this has been working for a while now and only does this sometimes.
Anyone else getting this or know how to fix it?

Well it seems that you can actually (or used to be able to) debug Acrobat JavaScript from within Designer itself using Acrobat Pro as the Preview renderer. As it actually spawns a real instance of Acrobat.exe, the JavaScript editor can be brought up during Preview mode (or used to be able to)
I have noticed the Debugger blink up a window that disappears whenever I deliberately force an exception.
Now my question is: Is this a known bug (Adobe?) and if so when is a likely fix going to be released? Or has one?

I am trying to use Acrobat Pro version XI to crop my PDF but can't find the "PAGES" tools

I have a 1 page PDF that is 9.5 inches wide with about 1.5 inches of margin. I want to crop off the extra white space and center the image so that it fits on a normal letter sized page. However, I can't find any sort of crop or trim command in Acrobat. When I google cropping a PDF I find references to a crop command that is in some sort of "pages" collection of tools but I don't have any pages menu either. Is there a way to use Acrobat Pro for cropping ? How?
I also have photoshop and have tried importing and cropping there but when I export the image back to PDF format I find that its 10X the size it started. Its important for my purposes that the file be small.

Well it was installed yesterday and I spent hours trying to find the option as virtually the first thing I did when I launched it, so I'm quite sure I would have remembered if I changed it. However it was installed by a push from our corporate software distribution system so maybe that has a way of reconfiguring some options. Why they'd bother is a mystery to me though. How Can I Create a Print Button on a PDF Using Acrobat Pro That Will Also Work on iOS?

I created a Print Button on a PDF document using Adobe Acrobat Pro on my Mac. The Print button works perfectly on different browsers on my Mac and on Windows (running under Parallels Desktop) as well.
When I open the document on my iPad the Print button doesn't even appear. I am guessing that this is a Flash issue but it may be more related to the fact the the action for the button is to access the Print menu item, which doesn't exist under iOS.
Is there any way to create a Print button using Acrobat Pro that will work on a Mac and Windows but also on iOS?

In order to initiate printing by clicking a button, the button has to have either an "execute menu item" type action or use the "print" JavaScript method. As you guessed, the former won't work since there are no menu items to execute, and the latter can only work if the particular PDF viewer you're using supports it. I'm not aware of any that do on iOS.
The button doesn't appear because you're probably opening it in the default PDF viewer, which doesn't support forms at all. If you were to open the form in Adobe Reader, you'd see the button but it wouldn't work.

Mac using Acrobat Pro v9 can't connect to shared review hosted on Sharepoint server.

A person at our company has a Mac with Acrobat Pro v9 and can't connect to our shared review hosted on a Sharepoint server. The shared review is initiated from a PC using Acrobat Pro X.
They can access/login to the Sharepoint server via Safari on the same computer both inside the company and from outside.
They used to have it working just fine for months, then suddenly (recently) it stopped working and it just keeps saying that it can't connect.
When trying to connect, Acrobat doesn't ask for credentials. I've tried hunting down where those credentials are stored to try and delete them to force it to ask again, but no luck there either.
I also have a Mac (but I'm running Acrobat Pro XI and now DC) and I can access the same shared review that doesn't work for them. And I can't seem to break it for me (as an effort to figure out their problem).
Any helpful guidance on how to get things back on track would be greatly appreciated. My head hurts from beating it against my desk. :-|
