Scripting the keyboard and mouse to be disabled

Hello all,
I have a need to temporarily disable both for security reasons, and then enable them again. Can someone help me out? I am fairly new to AppleScript, so please keep it simple if possible.
Thanks in advance,
Jerefrog

'I have a need to temporarily disable both for security reasons, and then enable them again. Can someone help me out?... so please keep it simple if possible.' - you cannot, via AppleScript, ... for security reasons.
Sadly, you just missed the lastest Philadelphia Area AppleScript Users Group [PAASUG] meeting.
Other Philly MUGs: 'Mac Programmers SIG', 'MLMUG', 'Macs@PACS'', 'MacBUS', and 'PHAD', to list only several.

I have had the same problem. It was cured by turning computer off and/or restarting it. I am not sure  if once was enough. I think shutting down must cut out whatever it is that blocks bluetooth. Good luck

  • Need to have the keyboard and mouse 100 feet away from Mac

I need to have the Keyboard and Mouse/Track-pad 100 feet away from Mac Mini.
    What are my options ?
    Thanks

In your case with the need to control it from multiple locations the best and realistically only solution is to use Screen Sharing to remotely control the Mac.
With this solution you can control it from anywhere you have a network connection and could use a laptop to control the Mac mini. This is the solution I use in a very similar situation.
Bluetooth does not have enough range, even RF wireless keyboard and mice devices also would not have the range, and I don't believe there is a suitable USB solution.
The only other possibility that occurs to me is to use an IP based KVM. A KVM (Keyboard/Video/Mouse) switch box allows multiple computers to be controlled from typically a single keyboard and mouse. However there are versions which allows you to do this over a TCP/IP network i.e. Ethernet. Then again you would be able to do this anywhere on your network. Here is one example - http://www.aten-usa.com/products/productItem.php?model_no=CN8600
Personally I still strongly recommend using Screen Sharing. Its built-in and completely free!

  • The keyboard and mouse have stopped 'talking' to the computer. New batteries in both units. Can't write, e-mail, text etc. What do I do next?

The keyboard and mouse have stopped 'talking' to the computer - cursors do not move in response to mouse, right and left clicks do not register and typing does not happen.. Batteries have been replaced on both. The computer seems to be working normally in all other respects. The little green 'on' lights on both the mouse and keyboard light up for ~10 seconds, blink for about 20 seconds, and then go out. Computer shut down and restart did not change the situation. What's next?

Get a wired keyboard and mouse for times like these, also to perform at boot keyboard commands in emergencies.

Not if you purchase them wired!  Your worries will be over.

  • K8N NEO 2 Platinum sometimes doesn't initialise the keyboard and mouse

I got a K8N NEO 2 Platinum for christmas, and everytime it reboots (fine when you turn it on fresh), it produces the shortest of bleeps, and doesn't initialise the keyboard and mouse. The only way to do anything then is to go for the power button and windows xp shuts down. It is still responding, just the bios hasn't initialised the keyboard and mouse.
Anyone know anything about this, and how to solve it?

  • Slight Crack on the Keyboard and Mouse...wat shud i do?

I have a slight crack on my keyboard and mouse pad. I really don't know how it appeared coz I always keep my macbook safely and it never fell or anything.
    Thanks

This happened to me back in october, the genius actually replaced everything but the bezel around the screen, now this afternoon ive opened my macbook and 2 pieces have come off on the bezel above the ridges at the top, and on further examination the bottom case is cracking too. Are apple still repairing these outside of warranty? ive read on various boards that they are and its a known problem, or theyre not, does it just depend on the genius in question? because i live over an hour and half away from the nearest apple store and im reluctant to go if i cant get it repaired for free.

  • Controlling Startup Using the Keyboard ande Mouse

In answer to an earlier post, I was given a method for switching startup disks at startup via the keyboard. Hold the control key down while starting.
That particular startup key combination is not among the listed combinations in the apparently incomplete article on the Apple support site: Mac OS X keyboard shortcuts:
    <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75459>
Go figure. How many others did they leave out, I wonder... holding the mouse button down on startup to open the CD drive is not listed, either.
Does anyone have any idea where there is a complete list? TIA

    Hi, Roger!
Some keyboard shortcuts aren't universal and don't work with all Mac models, like the Startup Manager (Option key during startup). Perhaps some commands were intentionally omitted from that particular listing for such reasons, rather than being unintentionally missed.
Here are more/other key commands, if you're interested:

  • Remember the Keyboard and Mouse System Preferences ...

    Hello,
In the KEYBOARD SYSTEM PREFERENCES, I have unchecked some keys attributed by the system (ex: F2 = Dashboard, F12 = all windows, etc ...). Every time I restart the computer all thoses changes are lost and I have to uncheck them again. Anyway to keep those changes permanent ??
    Thanks in advance.
    Robert Lespérance

The keyboard preferences are in "com.apple.systempreferences.plist"
found at Your User Folder / Library / Preferences/
will need to check all prefs after reboot
Changes don't take effect until the pane is closed

  • Problems installing OS  I have an iMac 21.5 (Mid-2010) and in trying to load a new hard drive, after choosing the installation disk the apple logo comes up and then stops and the keyboard and mouse goes dead.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

    Problems installing OS
I have an iMac 21.5 (mid-2010) and I'm trying to install a new hard drive.  When I choose the installation disk the Apple logo comes up and it stops there.  Then the mouse and keyboard goes dead.  I'm trying to install 10.6.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Since you have a new hard drive, there is nothing on it, so you need to boot from an external source (and probably format the hard drive before installing an OS). Are you booting from the 10.6 install disk? Better yet - do you have a bootable backup clone or at least a Time Machine backup?

  • HT1752 I have an old iMac (the rounded type with monitor).  I need a new keyboard and mouse.  Will any work?  thanks for any help!

I have an old iMac for 2002....it's the rounded type that has an attached monitor.  The software is way outdated (OS X 10) and I only really use now to access 3,000 plus songs and old video of the family.  Both the keyboard and mouse no longer work.  Am I able to use any keyboard/mouse and plug in using USB?  Thanks for any help!

Most any USB mouse or keyboard should work. Borrow one if you can and just plug it in.
If the USB circuits are at fault then you can access via Firewire Target Mode with another Mac in order to get at the files.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Another alternative would be to remove the hard drive and use a USB adapter to access it as an external  drive.

  • I was thinking of a new keyboard and mouse to go with the iMac

But I think the keyboard and mouse that come with this set will do their job admirably.
    Any comments?

    Just a little background here:
I was thinking of a Bluetooth Apple keyboard, which might come in time, but no real hurry.
The mouse was a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse. A few problems though:
CompUSA had one for $70, A little much fo a mouse.
And Compusa doesn't carry it anymore. Prolly the $70 asking price.
That and it might not work with the new configuration.
I played around with the Mighty Mouse at the Apple Store. Thought I could live it with it.

  • Keyboard and mouse don't work at all in 1 on 2 times!

When my computer has already been started up once and I start it up again, then the PS2 keyboard and mouse will not work, but only 1 on 2 times precisely! So one time the keyboard and mouse are working, the other time keyboard and mouse are not working. The rest works fine. Quite mysterious isn't it? Who has a solution to this?
If the power has been totally off and I put it back on again, then keyboard and mouse work properly.
I have looked into the BIOS, Integrated Peripherals for something like PS/2, I couldn't find it, I have put out several things in the BIOS, but it didn't work.
Now follows a list of everything I see when I am into the BIOS with the standard settings for integrated peripherals.
Could it help to put items on and off here?

Have you tried using a usb keyboard/mouse?
I don't use any usb, only use PS2. Maybe it is possible to use some sort of a PS2 to usb converter, but I would rather like the PS2 to work.
