Scripts and Workflows set as iCal alarms not functioning in Lion...

...or it could be becuase i am using a Beta version related to the Beta for iClloud and iOS5....I'm not 100% sure....
All I know is that I have scripts and workflows that used to work before the upgrade, they STILL work when I run them independantly using Script editor and Automator, but they do not run when the iCal alarm that they are tied to goes off.  Coem to think of it, the only way that i know those alrms are going off is that I get a notification on my synced iPhone that tells me they are going off.  - so i guess I really don't know if those alarms are working on my mac at home.
any thoughts or help?

For me it's completely random. Some examples of what's happened to me...
- I've set a new alarm (that I need to go off weekly) When I first set it it will pop up, but then the next week it will not. But then sometimes it will.
- I also have an alarm to check woot.com everyday that NEVER goes off.
I don't know if anyone else is having this problem (or if it's related) but something else also started happening the same time I installed Leopard... Occasionaly whatever window in any program I'm working in will all of a sudden go inactive / ghosted so I'm not able to type, etc. I have to click on the window I was working in to make it active again.
The tech I talked to thought that perhaps a pop up alarm was popping up OFF screen and therefore causing the inactive window problem. But after erasing all the info in my iCal (that's right, EVERY appointment had to be reentered) I know for a fact that's not the problem.

  • ICal invitations not functioning properly

    My invitations in iCal are not functioning properly; perhaps it's something I'm doing wrong.
    I have ticked all of the relevant boxes in both iCal and Mail to ensure that the invitations are automatically added to iCal. Here's the problem: According to the Apple instructions, you're supposed to tick on the invitation in iCal, then tick on the mail icon in the lower left corner to view your choices in the Notification area. That's supposed to allow you to accept, decline or tentatively accept an invitation. On my iCal, I don't see any of these options in the notification area. The odd thing is that if I retrieve the inviations via email through Entourage, all of these options are presented within the email itself, which doesn't happen in either Mail or Thunderbird. I prefer Mail and am looking forward to ridding my mac of Microsoft software, so I don't want to have to keep it hanging around just for that one item.
    Could someone please point me in the right direction? I can certainly follow instructions, if given.
    My thanks to everyone for their assistance in this matter.
    Respectfully,

    I'm having the same trouble! Help!

    Hi, My ipad has been stolen and I set up the erase data function in i cloud "find my device". I then changed my mind and wanted to change this to locate my device rather. When I deleted the "erase" option it removed my ipad from the find my device list. Can I restore it back onto the list?

    Once a wipe is sent, it cannot be stopped. You will not be able to track your iPad after that.

  • I have OS X 10.5.8 and I want to upgrade, but not to Mountain Lion.

    I have OS X 10.5.8 and I want to upgrade, but not to Mountain Lion. How do I upgrade to Leopard or snow leopard?

    Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
    You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
    You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
    After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
    If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
    You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
    To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
         OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
           Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
    To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
             See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.

  • OAI and Workflow - Setting Attributes to use in Notifications

    Does anyone know how I go about getting at attributes in a message that goes through the Workflow Adapter?
    What I am trying to do is to create a notification, which is more meaningful by adding some of the details I've passed through in the PARAMETER_LIST attributes of the Workflow message.
    Any ideas?
    Ian

    Kavitha,
    I've managed to do it, but using a simpler method (I think).
    In iStudio
    My Common View contains the attributes as follows:-
    EMPLOYEE_NUMBER (String)
    START_DATE (Date)
    LAST_NAME (String) and
    FIRST_NAME (String)
    My subscribing Workflow Event maps these Common View values into the PARAMETER_LIST array in the Workflow message. The mappings are as follows:-
    PARAMETER_LIST[v1].NAME=SetConstant (EMPLOYEE_NUMBER, "EMPLOYEE_NUMBER")
    PARAMETER_LIST[v1].VALUE=CopyFields (EMPLOYEE_NUMBER)
    PARAMETER_LIST[v2].NAME=SetConstant (START_DATE, "START_DATE")
    PARAMETER_LIST[v2].VALUE=CopyFields (START_DATE)
    PARAMETER_LIST[v3].NAME=SetConstant (LAST_NAME, "LAST_NAME")
    PARAMETER_LIST[v3].VALUE=CopyFields (LAST_NAME)
    PARAMETER_LIST[v4].NAME=SetConstant (FIRST_NAME, "FIRST_NAME")
    PARAMETER_LIST[v4].VALUE=CopyFields (FIRST_NAME)
    I also created the publishing Workflow Event. To get the values out of the PARAMETER_LIST array, I simply used the 'TrueConditionalCopy' transformation. For example,
    EMPLOYEE_NUMBER=TrueConditionalCopy (PARAMETER_LIST[v1].NAME, PARAMETER_LIST[v1].VALUE, "EMPLOYEE_NUMBER")
    In Workflow Builder
    I created 4 additional ATTRIBUTES in the Workflow:-
    EMPLOYEE_NUMBER_ATT (Type - Text)
    START_DATE_ATT (Type - Text)
    LAST_NAME_ATT (Type - Text) and
    FIRST_NAME_ATT (Type - Text)
    I then created my MESSAGE (Called 'Approve Update Employee'). I added 4 new MESSAGE ATTRIBUTES to this message:-
    EMPLOYEE_NUMBER (Type - Text, Default Type - Item Attribute, Value - EMPLOYEE_NUMBER_ATT)
    START_DATE (Type - Text, Default Type - Item Attribute, Value - START_DATE_ATT)
    LAST_NAME (Type - Text, Default Type - Item Attribute, Value - LAST_NAME_ATT)
    FIRST_NAME (Type - Text, Default Type - Item Attribute, Value - FIRST_NAME_ATT)
    In the Message Body I used the '&EMPLOYEE_NUMBER' notation to bring back the values into the message when the Workflow runs. For example, "This message has been created to tell you that Employee &EMPLOYEE_NUMBER has changed some details. Details are First Name is &FIRST_NAME, Last Name is &LAST_NAME and their start date is &START_DATE. Please Approve or Reject this change by using the buttons below."
    In the Workflow Diagram
    After the START node (Subscribe Maintain_Employees.Update_Employees) I added a series (4 in all) of "Get Event Property" Standard Workflow functions (GETEVENTPROPERTY) in order to find out the values from my parameter list.
    As an example, here is the one I did to get the Employee Number.
    In the 'Node Attributes' tag (when you double-click on the "Get Event Property") set the values as follows:-
    Name = Event, Type = Item Attribute, Value = OAI Message
    Name = Property, Type = Constant, Value = Event Parameter
    Name = Event Parameter, Type = Constant, Value = EMPLOYEE_NUMBER
    Name = Item Attribute, Type = Constant, Value = EMPLOYEE_NUMBER_ATT
    (Note that the 'Event Parameter' is the name you set it to when you did the SetConstant mapping i.e. EMPLOYEE_NUMBER. The 'Item Attribute' is the target ATTRIBUTE that the result of calling the GETEVENTPROPERTY will be put.)
    I finished off the Workflow by creating a NOTIFICATION called 'Update Employee Notification' which uses the 'Approve Update Employee' message, and added the Result Type of 'Approval'.
    If the message is APPROVED, then the workflow calls the Publish Event (END node type), if REJECTED then the Workflow goes to an END node (and not processed any further).
    My Workflow looks like this.
    START (Subscribe Maintain_Employees.Update_Employees)
    GETEVENTPROPERTY (to get EMPLOYEE_NUMBER_ATT value)
    GETEVENTPROPERTY (to get START_DATE_ATT value)
    GETEVENTPROPERTY (to get LAST_NAME_ATT value)
    GETEVENTPROPERTY (to get FIRST_NAME_ATT value)
    Update Employee Notification --> REJECTED --> END
    APPROVED
    END (Publish Maintain_Employees.Update_Employee)
    I'm not sure whether this is a good approach or not. The biggest upside is that I didn't have to do any additional coding. I only used standard OAI and Workflow functionality.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • ICal Alarms not working in iPod

    Around six months ago iCal alarms stopped working on my iPod.
    They do not even show up when I view a To Do or Event on my iPod. This happened all of a sudden and I have never changed any settings other than installing standard updates. I cannot recall if it was around the same time as an update. I use iCal 2.0.5 (1069). I was using a 60G iPod when this occurred. My new 80G has the same problem.
    Any ideas? I have searched everywhere(!) to no avail.
    I am very keen to get this feature back. Any suggestions most welcome. Thanks in advance!
    (This is my first post/question on here. I apologise if I have posted in the wrong place or asked a stupid question.)

    Believe me when I saw I have tried everything! I am not technically minded though I have covered all bases. I am just anxious to get this great feature back. It just seems strange that I am the only one with issues. This happened with my 60G then right through to now. I am actually on my second 80G as the first's battery failed after a month.
    Is it an issue with my Power Book? I seriously have not change any settings - EVER. Except for the standard updates.
    Thanks again for your quick reply Anyone got any ideas?!

  • No Alarms Work/ical alarms not firing. I have a solution that worked for me

    If anyone has had a look at this thread and still not found a solution...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1215043&start=30&tstart=0
    try this (busycal)...
    http://www.busymac.com/index.html
    I was having serious problems with my iCal alarms. They just weren't firing reliably, and I tried so many things to get it fixed. Nothing worked until I installed busycal. it's perfect! It's been totally rock solid for 20 or so days and I just purchased a full licence. Has very neat features like LAN sharing and google cal syncing. Even if it didn't need these features, I'd still use it because I rely on alarms firing, and busycal does it without issues. Support is also excellent (they email quickly, with accurate/helpful replies, and they've even made suggestions to me about settings I can change to make everything run more smoothly. amazing!) the quality of support, frequent updates and reliable alarms is worth the small registration price along!
    and no, i don't work for them, i'm just a very happy user and hopefully it will help some other frustrated ical users out there!
    alex =)

    try busycal support. they really are excellent and i'm sure they can help u work towards a solution. click "email support" in the busycal help menu.

  • ICal alarms not working after upgrade to Tiger

    After upgrading to Tiger my iCal (v 2.0.2) alarms were not working. The solution that worked for me was to go to the preferences file in my home folder and remove "com.apple.iCal.alarmsCache.plist" and "com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist". I removed both at the same time but you may want to try one at a time. Quit mail and then reopen it. After of couple of tests with a message alarm and an email alarm it seems to have solved the problem.

    Vicki,
    Force Quit iCal, from the  menu by choosing >Force Quit...>iCal.
    Paste this text ~/Library into the Finder Menu>Go>Go to Folder...window and select "Go." This will open the Users Library Folder.
    Then open the Calendars Folder which is in that Library Folder, and move any any files with "Cache" listed in the name field to your Desktop.
    Next open the Preferences Folder in that same Library Folder and move the com.apple.iCal.plist file to the Desktop.
    Log out/in or restart and open iCal.

    That is because the code on your phone has not been authorised to get the latest FW update. Either an operator is not passing it yet or its country specific.
    The best way to get a quick response is to use the boards. Please do not be offended if I don't answer emails immediately.

  • Can I set multiple iCal alarms to play iTunes 4 times a day?

    I would like it to play an iTune at 4 different times during the day (upon my AM Kdg class' arrival/cleanup time and again upon the PM Kdg class' arrival/cleanup time, for instance).
    Is this possible or am I stuck with only 1 alarm capability?
    (I don't want to buy a cd alarm clock - that's just another thing to plug into the wall. I want my iMac to work FOR ME!)

    Hi,
    I've been browsing the discussion forum and you seem quite knowledgeable.
    Regarding the question about triggering event alarms several times a day
    do you know if there's any way to modify the "repeat" menu to repeat tasks hourly (rather than typing in a specific time). I have a bunch of scripts I'd like to execute every hour, four hours a day, for a month. I'm using ical to control a sound installation in an art show.
    Thanks for your help.

  • ICal alarms not working for delegates

    I have a Mac OS X Server 10.5.4 running iCal server. I have successfully setup a couple of users and a delegate for one of the users that has write permissions. The alarms are working for the user but not for the delegate.
    I have searched the Mac OS X Server/iCal list and the iCal list with no answer to the issue.
    Thank you in advance for your help.

    This issue has been solved with the following from Cyrus Daboo. Thank you Cyrus.
    I believe that by default iCal ignores alarms on delegate calendars. I think you can change that by selecting the calendar in the list and selecting Get Info from the menu and then toggling an option in the resulting dialog box.
