Scroll Bar loses arrows

If I enlarge my window too far, both arrows go away on the bottom and the down arrow disappears from the right side. It wasn't always like this. It happens when the graphite bubble fills the scroll bar space completely. I am finding myself constantly re-sizing my windows in order to use the arrows. They are set on "together" under appearance in System Prefs.

I use SCROLL SWITCHER - Scroll Switcher is a small utility designed to allow the user to quickly and easily change (you can also do this in Terminal, but this is easier) the scroll arrow configurations in Mac OS X. There are 3 different arrow configurations to choose from: DoubleBoth, DoubleMax and Single. Download at: http://www.fixamacsoftware.com/software/ss/

  • Bring back traditional scroll bars and arrows

Why would Apple change a fundemental part of the UI? Removing scroll bars and arrows from the UI is unacceptable in my view. I understand you can restore scroll bar functionality from system preferences but having the arrows on certain apps is very helpful. What possible reason or improvement could warrant this action?

I'm a Wacom tablet user for many yeras, an not planning to get a Magic Mouse ($60.89) or Magic Trackpad ($96.03).
Why? Till 10.6.8 it work fine. It looks to me that Apple wants te sell more of there Mouse and Trackpads.
Just bring back traditional scroll bars and arrows as a option.
Apple starting to look like Microsoft. "We know what's best for you".
Just give the OSX users a option. I'll wait for a OSX update or for some one how writes a nice small utility to bring theme back. He/She will be a hero.

  • Scroll bar buttons/arrows

Scroll bar buttons (aka arrows) allow for much more precise scrolling than using fingers on a trackpad, dragging the scroll bar, or pressing the arrow keys. These methods are all too jerky, and it's too difficult to scroll to a particular line in a large document. I cannot possibly overstate my frustration resulting from elimination of the buttons. I'm pleading with Apple to restore them. Why not at least make them an option?
Is there some hidden option to get them back or some alternative I'm not aware of?

  • Why does my hotmail scroll bar down arrow turn into a diagonal resize instead?

With Firefox 5 in my hotmail account, when I try to use the down arrow on the scroll bar the down arrow turns into a diagonal resize instead. The diagonal resize works, but it won't let me use the down arrow to scroll down. The scroll up arrow still works okay. This doesn't happen when I use Internet Explorer with my hotmail account.

  • The right scroll bar down arrow is inoperative on Gmail tab. This problem appeared after update to latest version of Firefox. Is there a fix?

The down arrow on my Gmail tab does not function. If you click it the cursor changes and no movement of the scroll bar occurs.
Other tabs have the "dotted" section of the down arrow below but not in the down arrow itself. The down arrows still work except for Gmail tab.

Correction YOU need. I am glad to see them gone. Forgotten all about them, so please don't speak for everyone.
So Lion is still Broken… and Mountain Lion does not seem the fix the issue either…
Lion is not broken, you are simply having a lot of trouble adjusting to it and trying to forget your old habits. Lion is fine. And Mountain Lion not applying the 'fix' you believe is required does not bode well for your future usage and thus reverting to Snow Leopard may be your only hope of regaining these outdated features.

  • The right side scroll bar on firefox no longer has an up and down arrow after my last update. I have to fix this! Please help!

After my last update with Firefox, my right-hand scroll bar no longer has up and down arrows. I really need to get them back. I'm using a Mac laptop.

So the whole button is missing. I have no idea how to fix the default theme, since it is inside omni.ja, which is not accessible from just any archive handler, and I have not found any way to open it. My problems were with third party themes, and I managed to fix those by editing parts of the themes.
Maybe you could set up scrollbars yourself by using a userChrome.css file plus images. You could get some tips by opening third party themes and looking at their scrollbars.css files.

  • In Lion, why did Apple remove the up/down arrows in the scroll bars?  There is currently no way to move up and down in small increments.  WHY????

Every mac operating system software until Lion had the ability to use up/down arrows in the scroll bar.  This makes it easy to move up and down in small increments.  In Lion, it is impossible to move up and down in small increments.  Click on the scroll bar and it moves up or down an entire page.  When you try to put the curser on the scrollbar and move it up just a little, it moves a whole bunch.  With the up/down arrows, you can click on the arrow and it will scroll ulp or down one line a time.  There is no way to do this in Lion. Why would apple remove the very useful feature of up and down arrows.

    Yes, agreed a missing element.
Did you try using the up / down arrows on the key board.

  • Down arrow in scrolling  bar has disappeared

On most screens the down arrow in the scrolling bar has disappeared or occupies the same space as the page expansion square in the lower right hand corner. Tried having the up arrow both at the top and at the bottom of the scrolling bar. Diappearance occurs on all screens originating from Firefox. It is available on this screen and most linked pages from Firefox.

Check the properties of the file, in the Initial View Tab > Hide Windows Controls is not checked. You should always be able to scroll with a scrolling mouse.

  • Scroll bar arrows in Lion?

Just curious if anyone knows if there is a way to get up and down arrows back at the bottom of the scroll bars in Lion? I'm using a trackball mouse so it's a little annoying having to click and drag on that tiny little scroll bar...
Thanks for any insight you can share!
    Charlie

You can click on the space above or beyond the scroll bar. That faster than clicking on the arrows.
In the common preferences menue there are some options.
But Apple is proud of it's multitouch thing, the mouse now is from yesterday... ;-)
    Best regards

  • Down arrow in scroll bar missing

Most of the time the down arrow on the scroll bar is missing or occupies the same space as the page expansion square in the lower right hand corner. This happens whether the up scrolling arrow is at the bottom or the top. It happens with all pages on Firefox and most pages from search engines. Sometimes it is there. It is on this page and some linked pages.

strange problem. Not sure if it will help but you can try this:
run the following command in the terminal
defaults write "Apple Global Domain" AppleScrollBarVariant DoubleBoth
restart Firefox and see what happens. the above is supposed to put up and down scroll arrows both at the top and at the bottom of the page.

  • Down arrow in scroll bar disappears

I have a user using Acrobat Professional 8 on Windows XP Pro. When she opens a document in Acrobat she can scroll trought the document using the up and down arrows in the scroll bar. Then, at seemingly random times, the down arrow disappears and she has to restart Acrobat to get it back. Does anyone have any experience with or suggestions for fixing this problem?

Check the properties of the file, in the Initial View Tab > Hide Windows Controls is not checked. You should always be able to scroll with a scrolling mouse.
