Scroll speed in finder windows too fast.

I have a folder with 249 folders in it.
I need to select folders more than a month old and get rid of them.
To do this I change to list view, sort by date newest items at top oldest at bottom, drag through (bottom to top) and select the items I want to trash while holding the mouse button.
The scroll speed is so fast that I am at the top of the list before I can stop.
Where is the preference for FINDER WINDOW scrolling speed?
FINDER version 10.4.2

Threre is no speed control.. but try this instead:
do what you've been doing... finder.. list view... sort by date, but select the FIRST item you want to delete by clicking on it ONCE.
then scroll down 'til you can see the last item you want to delete, press the Shift Key, then select the LAST Item on your list.
You should have automatically selected everything between your FIRST and LAST item.. which you can delete, or move en mass.
Good Luck

running 10.4.11 finder window too large need to get lbak to default.

    Hi again BDA...
I'm not certain if it will work on other windows. I am more concerned with it working with the Firefox interface and did not try it on an alternate window.
On Sep 4, 2012 2:47 PM    (in response to Alexander_Apple) you said:
"Firefox uses it own settings & Method for that"
That does make sense which is why I asked if any of the Mac gurus know where in Firefox I go to change the setting. I wasn't really keen on adding another 3rd-party app to my machine. There must be a simpler route to take. Maybe change a preference in Firefox 3.6.28 or in the Displays Preferences? My display is a Samsung LED monitor Model NO. SMBX2235. My Displays Preferences are: "1920 x 1080 @ 60 HZ (NTSC) Millions" but, having not changed them since first setting up the monitor, I'm fairly certain it's not the Displays Preferences. Is there a chance I hit a Function key plus a letter or number one day when typing? I don't recall doing so.
Thanks for all  your suggestions BDA. I find  it's a bit confusing when you type the word "Windows" with an uppercase "W". Windows to me is something used on an IBM compatible computer. I, personally, do not consider one computer to be better than another. They each have their own advantages and disadvantages and  each type of machine can handle certain apps better than the other machine.
Thanks again BDA. I hope you have a great day!

  • PDF/X makes the scrolling speed of ClearScan PDFs much faster

    Hello all,
I am using 9 and X (trial) to find the best solution for reading scanned documents on Mac and iPad. I recently found that ClearScan OCR makes scanned black and white PDFs very light. Consequently, scrolling of PDFs on Mac and iPad becomes faster than regular bitmap PDFs.
However, there is a problem in ClearScan that bitmap image area become heavier than the original scanned files. I usually scan paper documents with a resolution of 600 dpi and downsample them to 600 dpi when OCRing. So theoretically, scrolling and pinch zoom in/out speed in Preview.app should be the same between the original documents and OCRed ones. You will be able to reproduce this problem if you OCR the following PDF. Try ClearScan + 600 dpi downsample + US English.
    http://articles.adsabs.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/nph-iarticle_query?db_key=AST&bibcode=1990ARA%2 6A..28..215D&letter=0&classic=YES&defaultprint=YES&whole_paper=YES&page=215&epage=215&send =Send+PDF&filetype=.pdf
But if I export OCRed document as PDF/X after saving it as a regular PDF, the bitmap area become very light and scrolling speed in Preview.app becomes very fast, while I get a preflight error when exporting to PDF/X. The file size of the exported document becomes about two times larger than the regular ClearScan PDF.
My question is; What is the main difference between regular PDFs and PDF/X? How can I get the same effect of the scrolling speed difference without exporting regular PDFs to PDF/X which is heavier? Any technique?

    Hello lrosenth,
Thank you for your comment. As you mentioned, I do not need to use PDF/X in fact because I do not send them to DTP companies.
Is there any tips to change the scrolling speed faster without using PDF/X? I do not know why the image part of regular PDFs after ClearScan is heavier than the originals.

  • "Name" portion of my Finder windows too long

When I open most (but not all) Finder windows, the Name section is extremely long, even when the names in the directory or folder are very short.
Does anyone know a way to reset or define the width of the name column? The other columns seem fine.

Thanks, I agree it's a bug but one doesn't throw such words around here too quickly. Here  are the main issues:
    • It does not matter how I adjust the size of the NAME section in a Finder Window in List view. The next time the very same window is open, it defaults to the original size when initially opened with the NAME section too long for the content.
    • The NAME section is always extremely long regardless of what is in the list (see image attached).
    • Often, the TAG dot is so far over to the right that is does ot appear.  It is not visible because the LIST COLUMN is too long. The rest of the window columns (SIZE, KIND, etc.) are similarly completely hidden in the overlarge window scrolling off to the right. They can be scrooled into view, but still default to the "too large" size when the window is opened.
    • About half the time, it is not possible to adjust the LIST VIEW column size by the handle betweem the sections (NAME, DATE, KIND, etc.). Clicking on the handle (the line between sections) has no effect and the left and right arrows do not appear. This seems to be limited to only the NAME section ofthe window.
Again, resizing the screen does nothing to fix any of this. I've looked at the FInder Preferences in the User Library which I have bolded below. I have opened and changed these in TextWrangler but they revert to the exact same settings, which I assume is becuase there is no way to quit the Finder w/o it saving the currently used preferences and settings (at least the unmutable ones). I will try booting in Target mode and replacing that file later today to see if i can force the OS to default to a smaller column size.
Please! No more "novice" answers to this question. It's not a matter of my not understanding how the Finder works, nor any user error. The Finder windows on this system, for whatever reason, are not working efficiently and not accepting user adjustments for some reason. THAT is what I am trying to address.
Thanks again, Edwin Drood, for your confirmation of the issue.
    Best,
    mm

  • Finder window too large

I am running 10.4.11.  Somehow my finder window became too lagre.  How do I make it smaller?

Is it just one Window, all of them, or is it the Desktop that is too large?
Did you accidentally hit Zoom, CMD+Option+8, do it again, or open System Preferencess>Universal Access>Seeing & turn Zoom OFF.

  • Finder window too big to resize

one of my finder windows was enlarged to the point where i can't make it smaller again. i can't move it far enough up out of the way to see the corner tab for changing size. suggestions?

Click the green button in the upper left corner and it will fill the screen (exactly). You can then resize from the lower right corner.

  • Finder windows too large

Every time I open a new finder window in 10.2.8, the bottom of the window extends past the bottom of the screen. I have to press the green button to be able to adjust the bottom slide on the new window. Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Bill,
You can also reposition the finder window (by grabbing it at the top of the window after you have used the green button and pushing its bottom right corner to size). Close this finder window, and now, new finder windows should open where you last positioned this window. It should remember its postition on opening a new finder window.

  • Finder window too large  - can't resize

Somehow my Finder windows are longer than my screen and I cannot reach the bottom right corner to resize. Is there a secondary way to make my window smaller?

  • Scrolling in Bridge CS6 is too fast/jerky

In CS5, the metadata and file list panels (et al) scroll about 1 line at a time so it's easy to scroll to the right spot.  I'm finding CS6 is much harder to scroll precisely--either magic mouse or track pad on my Macbook pro.  I find myself reverting to the scroll bars which, especially on the Mac, I'm not in the habit of ever using and isn't as productive.  Ideally, scrolling should be fluid like other apps on the Mac.  I'm hoping this is just a beta issue.
    Bart

Using the hand tool is what I've been doing but it takes a long time on large images. In Photoshop at high magnification the scroll bar is slow enough to not zip by the image so I would think there would be a way to set it in Illlustrator.

  • How can I get my OS X Mavericks finder window contents to scroll?

Since I upgraded to OS X Mavericks I've noticed that I can't do the 2-finger scrolling through my finder window contents any more - any one know how to turn it on again?
(I have scroll bars set to always in syspref)

Oh sorry - yes I have - I made sure all my settings were identical to what I had set up on my old (OS X 8.5) macbook including the track pad.
I can scroll everywhere else (chrome/windows/evernote/notes etc) except in the finder window - and as I'm always grabbing stuff from there it's quite annoying.

  • How to change fonts and background in a finder window?

I have searched all over the system (10.5.4) and can't figure out how to change the font that displays the text in any finder window.
I know you used to be able to change the background of any finder window too.
    I must be getting old!
    Any ideas?

I don't think you can change the typeface (at least not with 3rd party hackies such as what Unsanity offers), but you can change the typeface size. With the Finder active click Cmd-J (View->Show View Options) and choose a different font size.
    Hope this helps

  • Modify finder window?

When I open a finder window in list view it ALWAYS looks like this.
So then I always have to drag the column to make it look like this.
Is there anyway to have it always open with the columns all snug like in the second picture? (I'm running 10.9.5)

Here are a couple of possible things to try:

There are many others that came up - so it seems this is a common problem. So if you find one of these helpful let us know.

  • Touchscreen scrolling is too fast / broken in Acrobat 10.1.5 on Windows 7

Open a document more than 100 pages and try touch scrolling up and down in Windows 7. The document scrolls WAY too fast, making it necessary to use the scrollbar. Document should scroll at the speed of the gesture. At the very least there should be an option to adjust the sensitivity.
This basically breaks touchscreen scrolling, especially for people with hand impairments.
Is there a way to fix this behavior?

In Logic X, the mouse click wheel scroll is way too fast on the arrange window and the piano roll.  Is there a way to adjust this?  This is the way I scrolled for MIDI editing on Logic 9

Hi cris2121, assuming you're using a mouse from apple, go to >System Preferences<
it's here where one can configure a mouse device.
Additionally you can also configure Scrubbing in Logic: "When in scrub mode, you can slowly move the playhead in the Tracks Window and the Audio (and optional MIDI) will be played back. The playback speed depends on how fast you move the Playhead in either direction."

  • Lion mouse scroll speed scrolling too fast

System Pref > Mouse > Scrolling Speed is set to the slowest level and it is still way too fast!  Heard others complaining about this on a Parallels discussion group and thought I would post here.  Incease the range of scrolling sensitivity in an update please!  Reply to this post if you are having the same issue.
Scrolling was always way to fast in leopard when using Iphoto, but this with Lion it is too fast everywhere else except for huge files.

I suppose you are using a non-Apple mouse. You will need to update the software, and adjust the tracking multiplier within the software.
Logitech just came out with an update for Lion.
