Scrolling/arrows issue on a Mac

I'm working on a simple application that makes use of several
lists, etc that need scrolling functionality. Have no issues with
users on a pc, but some mac users are having trouble not being able
to use the scroll wheel or arrow keys to move down in the list
(only option available is clicking on the scrollbar).
The user is viewing the app using Firefox - is this a bug or
is there some attribute I need to turn on? The same issue came up
for the user when viewing the cell phone store application on the
adobe site

I am not an expert in LaserJets, but since no one else is helping, I'll try.
The P1100 series is not supported in Snow Leopard according to this.
There is, however, support via a generic driver.
Let's start with a reset of the printing system:
- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it, then choose "Generic PCL Laser Printer" and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Only in FF, Not Mac OS folder windows, when scrolling arrows are held at length scrollbar keeps scrolling to the top or bottom of long web pages with no way to stop this action.

When ever I single click the up or down ARROWS on my Firefox browser windows, they respond just as they are set to in my Mac OS 10.4.10/System Preferences/Appearance menu. They Jump to few lines up or down the Browser Page. Smooth Scrolling is not checked On. But, even when it was checked On, this same anomaly is Repeatable.
    - Holding either Arrow Button longer than a second or 2 will result in the page scrolling All The Way in the direction of the selected arrow.
The Arrow button that was selected stays highlighted until the scroll bar reaches its end.
This anomaly does not happen in any other Mac App on my computer. Each time I select and Hold either scroll Arrow Button on any other app. or any folder on my desktop, as soon as I release the button the scrolling action stops immediately.

You need to reset your default settings. This just happened to me recently!
Exit out of all fire fox programs the go to
    Start>Run> (firefox -safe-mode)
a box will come up and press reset default settings

  • Please bring back an option to Add Scroll Arrows!?

Mac OS X v10.7 Lion - has removed scrollbars and changed the direction of scrolling to better align with iphones, ipads, etc.  Thankfully, there are options to go back to behavior similar to classic scrolling behavior, with one important exception.  Unfortunately, scroll arrows are now completely gone.  OUCH !
Through preferences one can make scrollbars be presented.  Behavior can be based on the type of device being used, or scrollbars can be displayed all the time.  I choose to display scrollbars all the time.
Through preferences one can make the scrolling direction go back to what one expects if one used Mac OS X versions prior to 10.7 Lion.  When I'm scrolling content on my MacBook Pro, I'm either using devices that are not "embedded" in the display (the trackpad or the mouse).  When others do scrolling say on an iPad, where the scrolling is directly on the screen, I get it that the direction is different.  But don't change up and down so it will match a phone or tablet when I'm on a device where I'm doing indirect manipulation of window content.
To the core complaint... Scroll Arrows are Gone:  I cannot get scroll arrows any more.  Take a look at Mail or Safari.  This is especially needed in Mail.  I get lots of mail.  I want to be able to scroll up and down by pages (yes there is another preference for this) using the scroll region.  I can do that.  But I also want to be able to scroll the window (say preview window, or mail message content window) by one line at a time.  However, there is no option that I can find.  Maybe I want to see the whole paragraph at the same time.  Maybe I want to see a code fragment of 5-10 lines all at one time.
Some might say we should just use the up and down keys on the keyboard.  I would like to do that.  However, with Mail, Apple still has not provided the ability to move from message to message in the preview pane without MARKING THE MESSAGE AS READ !  Most email messages (like this one :-) are too long at least for quick browsing.  When I use the up/down arrow to go from message 42 to message 49, then 42 thru 49 are marked as read, even though I can do this in a second or so with seven down-arrow presses.  Certainly I can't read 7 real-life emails in a second.  See below for a post two years ago requesting this feature which many Mail programs have, but which has never been added to Mac's Mail app:
        https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1988930?start=15&tstart=0
Marking "Read" When Viewing in Preview Pane
...Similar discussions occurred on 10.4, 10.5, and 10.6.  Here we are on 10.7, but this request has been ignored...
Please bring back some method for turning on scroll arrows again!    And yes, give the option for controlling whether they're stacked at bottom of scroll region, or for using the more common model of up arrow at top of region and down arrow at bottom.
Sadly, this is also a core behavior of Mac OS X 10.7.  I have Chrome installed.  It does not allow scroll arrows either.
So, Apple... Accept that you went too far.  Bring back options to turn on scroll arrows.
...and go back and review that mail preview behavior too, while you're at it.
    Thanks,
    Alan Carwile

    Alan,
while the two finger scrolling is a sometime substitute for scroll arrows it is completely inadequate as a full time solution. It is useless in programs like excel that can have multiple split screens and only scrolls in one at at time and there is no reliable way that doesn't affect other operations to tell the program what screen you want to scroll in.  With scroll arrows I got arrows for each window when I split the screen.  It is typical of apple's (and steve jobs) hubris that they would eliminate these.  It's fine if you think it is more sleek efficient use of the screen not to have scroll bars, but why recognize the need for scroll bars and allow us to turn them on and not scroll arrows?.
Forgetting the split screen problem, on the large databases I have with 10s of thousands of records anything other than scroll arrows is unpredictable because the scrolling speed is dictated by the size of the database and the sideways scrolling with the track pad is clumsy.
The lack of compatability in Lion whether with programs or user interface speaks poorly of Apple and it is the first time in a long time I've thought I might be headed back to the dark side.
And I think they do this on purpose, to make people bend to their paradigm -- see Job's refusal for the longest time to let keyboards connect to the iphone.
And, I know I'm not speaking to apple here, I'm speaking to Apple users. Apple doesn't seem to care or think it can do any wrong and has had that attitude for a long time.

  • How can I get the vertical scroll bar in firefox for mac to operate more smoothly?

This scroll bar issue has been a real pain for awhile, though it seemed to be better for a period of time and now has grown much worse again. I'm using Firefox 22.0. I try to grasp the blue scroll bar (right side placement) to move it up or down for pages that require scrolling to view, and it is very hard to hold and move the bar, plus it often bogs down as the colored wheel shows up as if the software is trying to process the action. It's very frustrating. I'm set to "smooth scrolling" in the Firefox settings, but that doesn't help. Is there a way to fix this and make the scroll bar move quickly and smoothly in Firefox for Mac?

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • I can't scroll by hitting the space bar, or clicking on the scroll bar itself, or even use the scroll arrows- how do I make them work again?

I wake up, unhibernate my laptop and suddenly I can't scroll by hitting the space bar, or clicking on the scroll bar itself, or even use the scroll arrows. In other programs it works fine. What happened and how do I fix this?

You may have switched on [http://kb.mozillazine.org/accessibility.browsewithcaret caret browsing].<br />
You can press press F7 (on Mac: fn + F7) to toggle caret browsing on/off.
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Scrolling_with_arrow_keys_no_longer_works
    * Tools > Options > Advanced : General: Accessibility: [ ] "Always use the cursor keys to navigate within pages"
You can press Ctrl + L to go to the location bar.

  • Does Mountain Lion Restore Scroll Arrows

I am really sorry I ugraded(?) to Lion from OS-X 10.6. Losing colored sidebar icons in both te finder and application file open/save windows was really a big problem for me. Also, the removal of scroll arrows from scroll bars is a big disappointment. Also, file open/save windows take a long time to load the folders and devices available. I can't imagine why Apple is going backward on this stuff. I guess the next step is to release black and white retima displays?
Anyway, does anyone know if the scroll arrows and colored icons have been restored in Mountain Lion?
    Thanks - Bill

You've got it in one. Macs built their name on usability and lived in the shadow of the utterly unusable, unstable but ubiquitous windows-driven PCs.
 seem to have learned from that that market domination revolves around building systems with crap features that nevertheless have some popular appeal rather than focussing on making great systems. The next thing to be lost will be durability. My old macs never died, but I suspect either through hardware or software obsolescence, we will all be forced to upgrade on a 3-yr cycle before long.
What happened to the old mac ethos of durability, usability and aesthetic beauty? It died with the release of Lion 10.7 last July.

  • Scroll arrows are gone

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4143623?start=0&tstart=0
I have submitted feedback. Or is there a way to see them that I am not aware of? You know how much of a PAIN it is to go up and down a Quicken 2007 document without the icons?

    John Wolf wrote:
I do not understand why Apple took away such a useful feature, but perhaps its things lke this that keep them out of the business market.
This won't solve your problem, just an answer. They took away scroll arrows because of the shift in UI hardware over the past 10 years. The primary methods for scrolling, for most people on most apps, even without considering iOS at all, have moved from clicking scroll arrows and tapping arrow keys, to scroll mice (on both Windows and Mac) and trackpads on laptops. And trackpad-equipped laptops are now outselling desktops. Applications that have kept up should be coded so that they're just as easy to scroll with the new hardware as the old hardware.
I realize accounting is a special case because it's heavily keyboard-driven. And I use keyboard shortcuts a lot, including arrow keys, all the time. But on the whole (I don't have Quicken 2007) I haven't noticed the missing scroll arrows. I only miss them in applications that improperly support line-by-line scrolling with my scroll mouse.
As for the business market, Apple does not care. They don't market there, and their absence there doesn't seem to bother them one bit. The latest reports are that sales volumes of scroll-arrow-less iPads is steadily increasing inside corporations...despite Apple's complete lack of effort in selling into corporations.

  • [TroubleShooting]Continuity Wi-Fi issue. iPhone and mac not on the same wifi network

Ive been following this and other forums since Yosemite came out few weeks back & i can see many other people are having this issue as well.
The issue is that I'm not able to make/receive calls on my MBP using my iPhone via continuity.
Ive tried all of the possible solutions made here and elsewhere on how to resolve this issue. [playing about with settings and iCloud]
When I'm at home all of the handoff and continuity features work apart from making and receiving calls. Tells me my mac and iPhone are not on the same wifi network, even though they are.
    Now, the solution?
Now this is where tourbleshooting comes in. Ive taken my mac and to my homegirls house & all of the features worked including phonecalls, without changing anything, except?? THE ISP and the router at her house.
Personally i live in London, Uk. At home i have sky, and my girl has TalkTalk.
So im 99.9% sure this has nothing to do with the OS X, but rather its the ISP or the router.
Now I'm asking for help from anyone that understands the ISP's and routers, on what kind of issue there might be. Im no computer wiz kid, but I'm guessing it could be something that has to do with the NAT type. (Call of duty on ps3 haha) At my house its moderate and my homegirls - open? could that be the issue? if so are there any router settings i can play about to see if that solves the issue?
    Thanks.
Please only post if you know what you're talking about because i don't want anyone giving me some next instructions for my router so i end up without internet what so ever haha And whoever is having the same problem, id appreciate if you'd post on this to keep the post alive

Apple TV mirroring issues even with Mac mini, airport extreme bought at the end of last year, and an iPad 2

I have the same issue with ATV3 and iPhone 4S. Everything works properly, no buffering issues when watching netflix, vimeo, youtube BUT when I try mirroring even a small 15sec iPhone movie it stutters and buffers and results to a choppy playback..same with larger mp4 files such as 1-1.5GB, buffers forever and never plays, I just re-encoded the same movie to 700MB and plays perfectly..
Why Apple, why?..so close..I can accept the bigger movie files issue, but not being able to playback properly an iPhone movie is funny..I recorded a movie with lower bitrate through Filmic Pro (Economy mode, up to 16Mbps)
    and plays properly.
Is there an upcoming software update going to solve the problem or is it hardware related and therefore not fixable.
Please don't reply with a network related answer, by 2012 we know how to set up our networks and everything else runs flawlessly.
I'll apreciate a fast answer, we love Apple, but if it can't play an iphone movie (or a high quality movie from iTunes) it's just not up to my standards.
    Thanks again.

  • Page shift due to vertical scroll bar issue

I'm working through a vertical scroll bar issue in my design, using a ProjectSeven CSS page template. When testing the site in my browsers (FF/Safari/IE/Opera), and IF the scroll bar is not present, the entire page shifts to the left (the width of the scroll bar) when I click a link in the left column of my design. The page does not shift when the vertical scroll bar is present. Support at P7 suggested the following fix:
    html, body {
    height: 100.1%;
    margin: 0 0 1px;
I've tried placing this markup in about ten different places but can't seem to find the right location in the code. Is it possible for someone in the forum to take a look at my page source and show me where/how to locate this fix?
    See my test site at:

    Thanks .  .  .  .

    PZ,
I'd like to place the fix where you've suggested, but that's the whole issue.
I simply don't know where my CSS ends (duh). Is it possible that you show me exactly where?
Hopefully this is the right section of my code:

  • Quality issues with new Mac Mini 09?

I've been itching to hit the 'buy' button -- but in reading the many postings about the new Mac Mini, I'm seeing lots of issues with the bluetooth ... *wireless signal* ...
Is there anyone who's not experiencing any problems?
Sounds like it may be a hardware issue with connections... the last thing I want.
My other choice is the 2008 Mac Pro which seems trouble free.
    What do you think?
    Thanks.

There is a general issue/trend with the new Mini. There are plenty of reports in these forums and the news has begun to hit the wider press; I guess this is more important to a company with only 2-3% desktop share than posts to these forums. I went to the Genius Bar on Saturday and they have now lodged an official bug report with Apple. It looks like the Mini cannot pair with more than one HCI device. So if you pair with the mouse first the keyboard won't work and vice-versa. They don't think the Mini hardware is broken but that we will just have to wait for Apple to fix the firmware.
Where I do agree is that some issues are OS-X 10.5 related and can therefore affect all Macs. The WiFi has issues where it randomly drops, it doesn't seem able to re-connect at all to channels above 13 and only manually to channels below 12. The system resume function is unreliable. All these started when we moved from 10.4 to 10.5 and so far they have not been addressed. One issue is that there does not appear to be a way for users to log bug reports, except when software crashes. However, the bluetooth issues on the Mac do appear real and are either firmware or hardware related.
