Scrolling content question

I have done this multipl times before without a problem. I have a short block of scrolling text that does not align flush left, as it has been created. It scrolls horizontally AND vertically when it should only scroll vertically. Both text boxes are the same width and the scrolling content box is on the pasteboard touching the edge of the page. Any thoughts as to what could cause a minor horizontal scroll like that?

No. It's just set up as scrollable content. I didn't even know it could scroll in both orientations. Previously, when I've done it, it's just moved in the one direction. Are there things that can affect scrolling text that would cause this, to the best of your knowledge.
Bob, on an unrelated note, have you seen or heard of multi-state objects being too complex to process? I have an issue where a file animates in the Preview Content Viewer, but then it crashes my InDesign and won't animate correctly on the iPad.

How Do I Link to Custom Component States From Scrolling Content Buttons?

Hi there, I'm in need of some help as i've got a deadline to meet within the next few weeks and im stuck!
Basically what I've done is i've made a scrolling content lists, containing about 10 products in each one, my plan was to turn each product into a button so that users could click on that product, and take them to a new page containing more detailed information on that product; when they've finished looking at that product they can click a button to return them to the list they were on previously. However I can't just make a brand new state for each product as there is a limit to 20 states, and I will need around 50 of them.
So, from what i've read I will need to create custom components. the only trouble with doing this is that I can't link to the custom component on a different main timeline state (I dont get the option to link to the states of the custom component).
If i put the image of the detailed product into the scroll panel I am able to link to it, however, it's inside the scrolling content and it just scrolls around and stuff which isn't what I want; as it makes it look messy.
- Basically I just need to link from the buttons in the scrolling list, to a more detailed page for that product. Then be able to return to the list using a button.
If anybody has any input on how to achieve this, please help me out. Starting to panic now as this needs to be finished before september :s

Hi Tom,
Adding this back here to share my wireframe with the community.
Have put a quick .fxp together based on the 'product' section of your project.
Take a look at how the product lists are linking into the product detail pages within their custom components.
Using this model you should be able to expand out to infinite product detail states. If a particular product area has more than the maximum allowed states, just start a new custom component (part 2 for that product section).
Let me know if you have any questions. Hope this sets you on a path to getting your project complete. It's looking nice.

Checkpointing - control file contents question

Some clarification is needed if possible...
When you commit a transaction:
- commit scn is recorded in the itl of the data block and undo segment header
- lgwr records the committed scn (for all data blocks involved) to the redo log
Checkpoint Event
- (3 seconds or possibly less passes by) CKPT wakes up and signals DBWn to write dirty (modified and committed)
blocks to disk
- CKPT records the scn of those blocks in the control file (data file and redo thread sections) and the data file
header (task of checkpoint when a log switch occurs)
- Checkpoint position in the Redo Log is forwarded
Control file contents question:
When LGWR writes the commit scn to the redo log, who writes the scn to the control file? LGWR or CKPT?
Also, when is the redo thread scn written?

This is my understanding of the stuff. Feel free to correct me.
Checkpoint SCN , as I mentioned in my last reply is the marker of the point till which the data is "chekpointed" to the datafiles. This marker tells the controlfile that in the case of the crash, where to start recovery of the datafile and have to go which extent in the redo stream? This is only available in the datafile header and in the controlfile. This doesn't get recorded in the redo log file/stream.
I mentioned checkpoint queue in my reply too. Though I couldn't find any reference directly mentioned between this and in the checkpoint SCN but I believe my theory , if not totall, partially is correct. The incremental checkpoint is the stuff which makes the decision that how many redo blocks needs to be applied to the datafile if its closed without a proper checkpoint. So this part is maintained in the Datafile header itself in the form of the checkpoint SCN. When not matched with the conrolfile checkpoint SCN, which is always higher than this, a recovery is reported.
I hope its somewhat correct. Do let me know your views too.

Creating a static page navigation frame, that only scrolls content?

I need help, please.
I am trying to create a new site. On each page,I want the top navigation bar and the bottom navigation bar (and in an ideal case scenario a left side bar)to be static. I never want the actual 'bars' to disappear when somebody scrolls the page. I only want the actual content (text w images etc.) to scroll. In other words: I would like there to be a static C frame of sorts - and only the "stuff" in the middle 'moves' or can get scrolled. (Sorry about my non-technical terms - but thats the only way I can best explain it).
Can anybody tell me how I could create that effect with iWeb?

There are many way to do that. I have two ways of doing it, both are javascript:
1) having nav bar and side bar move as you scroll on your page. example:

I have a few questions:
I have been studying this and have been lurking this forum for a while, but I still don't seem to get some stuff work.
First of all, I'm trying to make an article, that in horizontal orientation, only scrolls horizontally (flattened stack) but in vertical orientation is one long page.
     This is what happened during my experiments:
     1: I made a document flatten_h.indd which is 1024x768px and is 5 pages.
     2: then I made flatten_v.indd and it's 768x5120px loooong one page.
     3: in the properties of the folio builder panel, I selected "smooth scrolling off" and turned on "horizontal swipe only".
     4: uploaded it to the iPad and it worked. the horizontal orientation was horizontal swipe only, the vertical was smooth scrolling. awesome.
     5: I decided to change the background colour and updated the thing on the iPad, and it broke. Both orientations were horizontal swipe only. weird.
     6: i changed settings, restarted, everythinged, and still could not get it to work again. I can not do it anymore.
     7: I started to look for alternative solutions, like changing the vertical to 768x1024px and the content would be html content, that can free scroll. this is a possible solution, but it was bothering me that it should not be this way because I don't want to design it in HTML.
     8: then I tried it with scrollable content in the vertical layout. (following the instruction in the DPS_Tips_Overlays_v11.folio file) This is where it becomes confusing, because the scrollable content just would not work. it only shows a little "?" on the middle of the page, and that's it.
So I have 2 questions:
1: how can I achieve that the horizontal layout is in "horizontal swipe only" mode, and the vertical layout is freescroll long page.
1.5: if it's not possible, then how comes that I was able to do it once?
2: why does the scrollable content thing gives me the questionmark? I followed the instructions in the DPS_Tips_Overlays_v11.folio file, and still does not work.

How can I create a horizontal scrollbar with a centered thumb that scrolls content from both sides?

I am having trouble figuring out how to create a horizontal scrollbar component either by itself or nested inside a data list component that will have it's thumb centered in the track when running and reveal content from either the right or left side when the thumb is moved. The furthest I have managed to get is to create a data list component with a scrollbar component inside that has a centered thumb that reveals content from the right side of the list (0 through 10 of the items) but only reveals blank area when tracking the other way. Is there a way to create say… negative items in the data list… 0 through -10? Or am I approaching this the wrong way. Please help. Thanks.

Thanks. I guess I was hoping for an answer that addressed my question from a designer's point of view rather than a developers'. As a designer with over ten years experience using Adobe products for print work it is difficult to understand why "centered" is such a complicated concept when designing art for use on the web. It is so frustrating to realize that most containers for images and text can only be resized by pushing and pulling handles located on the right and bottom; Catalyst seems like a great start but if Adobe really wanted to impress the "design" community it might consider putting all that supercharged code underneath the hood of some more familiar "design" tools. Maybe a "catalytic converter" would allow the introduction of a "centered" tool for every element.
After all, why is it literally twenty-five times more difficult, requiring the use of three additional programs to create a component that functions exactly like a typical data list and scroll bar with the exception that the thumb is "centered" on the track and reveals images from both the right and left. For that matter why not also have as an option a thumb that snaps to the bottom of the track and reveals images from the top… and one that snaps to the right and reveals images from the left when you run the project? It just seems so logical to expand the scroll bar component to include these options.
I am very glad to have Catalyst and will redesign my project to fit within the constraints of the tools available in the program but it seems that if Adobe is really serious about Catalyst being a window into the world of web design for designers/AD's that perhaps it might benefit by focusing on what might improve the program from the designer's point of view. I hate to say it but the Catalyst forum is already rife with answers to questions that are riddled with code… Literally. And to be honest most designers don't have the time to decipher that code. As a designer I work regularly and have a deep understanding of Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro, Final Cut Pro, Final Draft and modo. I do hi-res assembly, retouching, design and layout, identity, production, 3D modeling and rendering, video editing… and before I switch to using Catalyst for web mock-ups I am going to need a more "designer" friendly set of tools and definitely a "centered" control.
I really think Adobe is fantastic. But I also think it could take a lesson from a great little company called Luxology. I tried learning 3D modeling and rendering for years with programs like Lightwave, Maya and others, always with mixed results. Then Luxology came along and actually delivered on their promise to create a 3D program for artists. What was the factor that made all the difference? Well, besides the Apple award winning interface and sets of tools it was the training available on their sight. The program itself ships with thirty-six hours of quicktime movies. And hundreds more hours available for download. I have never yet not been able to quickly and easily find an answer to a question I had about how to accomplish something in modo. You know how long I have already spent on Adobe TV searching through videos and on the Catalyst forum searching through topics trying to get an answer to what I thought was a very simple question? Way too many. If I have a question about a Luxology product that I can't find the answer to do you know what I do? I call Brad Peebler, the President of Luxology. I'm not special nor do I work for some special development house with special privileges that is simply their policy. And that policy has paid big dividends. Both ILM and Pixar has licensed their technology.
Well… I apologize for this long response but I really think that if Catalyst is going to attract the market it wants that it will have to consider putting some designers on the development team. After all… Isn't that what the promo videos tout… Finally a web design program for designers. Well, I guess we'll see.

Mouse Scroller Algorithm question

I have a mouse controlled scroller which I've fashioned from Lee Brimelow's excellent tutorial. I'm at the stage now where I want to add more thumbnails to the scroller's content area, though when I do, the scroller will not scroll any more than 8 thumbnails in either direction.
My question is (for those of you who are way better at Math, than me) how do I complete the algorithm to compensate for adding more than just 8 thumbnails - into, say, 30 thumbnails and have the scrolling behavior always show the last or first thumbnail when the mouse is at either side of the scroller movieclip?

Business Content Questions - Urgent

Can you please help me with the following questions...
1. I installed business content for CRM Sales Activities. I was also successful in loading transaction data. There is some master data that also needs to be loaded, but many of the master data datasources are not available when I checked RSA5 in the CRM system. How should I approach this problem?
   2. When installing business content, if "match (X) or copy" is selected and if we select background installation, will the system overwrite the objects or will it leave it in the existing version?
   3. When activating business content reports, I get the error "BEx transport request xx is not suitable or not available". What could this mean?
   4. After development, do I simply gather all the objects and transport them to QA/PRD or do I have to activate business content in QA/PRD systems also?

Parallax Scrolling content shifting

I created a website using the "Parallax is Fun" template. After customizing for my own use, I noticed a shift in page content as I scroll down to view my sight. How do I keep the pages from shifting left and right? Header links are responding correctly, but as they scroll to each section, the viewable page does not align in a clean, consistent vertical manner!!! Thanks for any help.

East Scroll bar Question

Hello - im building a site, and i want to incorporate a
scroll bar for text, as i want each page layout to be the same, and
not useing a scroll bar will not let me achieve this. I have tried
to use a textArea, but here i cannot chnage the font and style of
the text, it defuals to courior, and also puts a horrid grey
outline to the text area, which i do not want. This is really
annoying !!!
I hope someone can help me quickly !!!

Remember that such a scrollable content area will often
affect the
site's overall usability. In the worst case the visitors
might end up

I doubt this added website was done in Muse, but can Muse do this sort of thing repeatedly ... or just at the top of a page?

Canvas won't scroll content, but scrollbar appears?

Hello, i've tried porting this at actionscript.org with no
luck.
I have a class that extends canvas and i populate the object
like so:

the scrollbar will appear when the cards total width exceeds
the boundaries, but the scrollbar doesn't scroll the content (the
cards) when dragged back and forth. Although the scrollbar does
appear to adjust it's size correctly proportionate to the content.
Is there additional code i need to add for the scroll functionality

Does electronic version Adobe Dreamweaver CSS with PHP come with the labs or files used in a college course? What is on the CD and is there a way to get the content with the Barnes and Noble e-book? This should be a Barnes and Nobel question but they seem to have troubles answering the questions like this.

Why does the down arrow button scroll content up?

The new logic/behavior with swiping up/down is now: "you are moving the content, not the scrollbar"
I can accept this as a somewhat good logic. It makes sense..
But should'nt the arrow keys behave the same way to make this behavior/logic consistent?
The arrow key down still scrolls the content up (if you think like that)
Or does the arrow keys scroll the scroller down.. Well which is it?

That would change the trackpad behavior, which is not what I'm looking for, but thank you
