Scrolling credits jerk in iMovie

I am experiencing a jerky scroll when I preview my text additions. They move from bottom to top ok but I notice a jerk as it proceeds. Does anyone know how to make this more stable? I also notice on some of the zoom from bottom to top is not real stable. Any fixes for this?
Thanks!

There are unfortunately no alignment choices in iMovie 10.   However you can do it manually with some fiddling about.  Highlight and delete "Description".   Then place the cursor to the left of "Name" and start pressing the space bar.  Eventually after about 32 spaces "Name" will start shifting to the right.  Do this for each row you need and adjust the number of spaces to centre the names.
In fact you can alternatively highlight and delete all of the Name  Description fields, press line feed and type spaces up the point you want your name to appear.   Another line feed or two and repeat for the second name etc.  You can type anything and change the font and font size, you just have to write spaces to position each line of text.

  • With scrolling credits can I have a mixture of spacing layouts?

In iMovie 11, when using the scrolling credits I see iMovie has them formatted with 'Actor Name' on the left and 'as Character Name' on the right, all nicely spaced so they line up neatly.
I've started my credits with a simple list of names set dead centre and now I want to have the rest of the credits in the default format but can't achieve it. How is it actually done? Is it possible to easily mix between types of layout like this?

  • IMOVIE SCROLLING CREDITS AND EXPORTING TO IDVD

    GREETING ALL MAC USERS
I CREATED A VIDEO PROJECT IN IMOVIE WITH SCROLLING CREDITS. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN I EXPORT THE GOOD IMOVIE PROJECT WITH SCROLLING GREAT TO IDVD TO BURN ON A DVD DISC THE SCROLLING CREDITS SHOWS UP AS A BLANK WHITE SCROLLING SCREEN.
I'VE HAD ONE ON ONES, GENIUS BAR, WORKSHOP AND ONLINE TECH SUPPORT. I'VE EXPORTED IN ALL FORMAT AND STILL THE SAME PROBLEM. WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON HERE? HELPPPPPPPPPPPP!...LOL.

Anyone? We had to delay our rollout. I'm so bummed about this. Doesn't Apple care that I cannot have credits at the end of my movie with the latest version on iMovie? Just a scrolling white screen. It stinks. I found someone who had a workaround by chopping the credits up into 4 second intervals. It looks terrible though - way too much black space in between the sections. I just don't know what to do.
My credits total about 24 seconds and play with music. In iMovie they look fine. (Not all CAPS). Once I publish in any format to any place they turn into a solid white screen. PLEASE oh PLEASE help me. This is for WORK. Clearly I need to change applications...

  • IMovie 09' Scrolling Credits keep getting deleted

Working in iMovie 09' I add the Scrolling Credits theme to the las 10 seconds of the movie. When I change projects or close iMovie and then return to the original project to make changes, the credits I added are no longer there. What happened? This just started today. Please help.
    Thank you,

When I use the scrolling credits title, I always hit the tab key and it saves. If I don't hit the tab key after inputting the text, it forgets.

  • IMovie '11 Scrolling Credits

I'm using Scrolling Credits for the last clip in my movie. The credits whizzed past, and some research led me to try lengthening the clip over which the title is placed, and to lengthen the title bar to match. I can read the credits now, but they finish long before the clip does, so I have a black screen and music playing for about 15 seconds. No matter how I set the lengths, the end of the scrolling ends in about half the time allotted. If the clip is set for 30 seconds, the scroll takes 15 seconds. If the clip is set for 5 seconds, the scroll takes 2.5 seconds. How do I make the title last the same amout of time as the clip?

I can. If I could only make the title longer than the clip, that would work. I can't extend the blue bar past the end of the clip. And no matter how long or short I make the clip, the title scrolls past in half the time. If it's long enough to slow it down to reading speed, that means I've got 15 or 20 seconds of black background and music going on after the credits are done.
I want to know how to make the credits last the same amount of time as the clip. Please note that extending the duration of the clip and the title does not help. The title remains visible for half of the duration of the clip, whether it's 10 seconds or 10 minutes.

  • Speed of scrolling credits

is there a way to slow down scrolling credits in imovie 09 to make them easier to read?  I have only had experience adjusting the speed of video clips...

Thanks.  I have actually gotten to be fairly decent with clip trimmer and the fade in, fade out and volume equalizing functions.  The problem I ran up against was when I wanted to use say a minute of the song that was at the end of the song.  If I import the song and it is the last clip in the iMovie project, it only imports as much of the song as there is video remaining.  I have gotten around this by temporarily adding blank space to end of video just so that I can import and trim the song.
As with many things I do, I sense there must be an easier way, but I haven't found one yet!

  • Slowing scrolling credits

i'm new to the imovie program..i was wondering how i can slow down the scrolling credits..it seems like it's going way too fast..thanks..

The scrolling credits will scroll to fill the time you have set for the scrolling credits to appear - in other words, they will scroll for the length of the blue box. To make them scroll longer, you can lengthen the blue box by clicking on the right edge and dragging to the right. You can also click on the left edge and drag to the left.

  • Effects, titles & scrolling credits deteriorating

    Hello everyone,
So far I’ve made two half hour comical movies of the kids (which have been met with rave reviews from relatives around the world)
    My problem is this,
Effects like slow mo and scrolling credits are fine when first created but as I play(ed) with adding more clips (with all the editing in and out of elements & clips etc.) more and more certain sections (1 x slow mo) became noticeably jerky. And the one scrolling credit would become more difficult to read (rippled might be a good word).
It seems the more I had anything to do with the project as a whole the worse these sections became.
The finished product is spoiled from what it first looked like (from when first creating the slow mo etc.) This I have proved because I did burn an early stage of both projects and these are noticeably different to watch both on Living Room DVD and PC.
Is what I’m seeing ‘because iMovie is not Final Cut Pro’ or can the average Joe get a quality product out of iMovie HD? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for the guidance.

    Hello, utterly me,
Welcome to the discussions. What final format are you doing? DVD?
If so, have you saved your DVD project as a 'Disc Image'?
I have found that if I have an iMovie with lots of transitions, effects, audio or if the entire movie is longer than about 1hr 20 min, ( and lots of mine are) iMovie just seems to get slower with more stuttering, often with video freezing while the audio plays on, and sometimes with audio skipping and stopping.
I discovered that if I manually move the playhead to be sure the effect/transition is what I want, the final burned DVD will be fine. I am usually putting photos and video clips together and adding audio segments. I use lots of transitions. Most of the time the video that originally played correctly after importing and editing will not even play much at all by the time I am finished.
I go ahead and close iMovie after making my chapter markers. I don't go directly from iMovie to iDVD because iMovie will want to render some of my clips and iMovie does not do a good job of that.
I open iDVD, create my project and then drag in the iMovie using the 'custom' tab, and selecting 'Movies' from the 'Media' option.
I save the final DVD project as 'Disc Image.' This will save a finished DVD project, ready to burn. You can check it with DVD player to see if the movie came out correctly and plays well. Then, you can burn your DVD disks using 'Disk Utility.' You can save the Disc Image of your movie and delete the original movie when you are finished, thus saving lots of hard drive space because the iDVD project is much smaller than the iMovie. You will, of course, not be able to edit the disc image, so be sure you are all done with editing before you delete iMovie! Once you have the disk image, you can always burn another DVD from it in the future.
Post back if you are still having problems, or if the above is not clear!

  • Very specific question re: scrolling credits

I am using the "scrolling credits" theme to end my movie/slideshow. I can't seem to slow down the scroll and the credits are flying by. Any one know how to do this?

In addition to AppleMan's good advice, I thought I would provide an extra tip that may help with the Scrolling Credits title.
I'm not sure whether the tutorial AppleMan has linked to covers my tip, as the tutorials aren't playing for me at the moment. Maybe Apple is doing a bit of maintenance.
Here's my tip. If you have used one of the backgrounds provided in iMovie, to which you are applying a Scrolling Credits title, you may have to extend the duration of the background clip as well as extending the title duration. iMovie's behaviour here is not always consistent.
So, if the title has defaulted to, say, 4 seconds and you want, say, 20 seconds, you should firstly change the background clip to 20 seconds. To do this, either double-click on the background clip to bring up the Inspector, or click on the small gear icon on the background clip and select Clip Adjustments. From here you can change the duration of that clip. Finally, follow AppleMan's advice on how to change the duration of the actual title text. Ensure that this duration exactly matches the new background duration, unless you wish to add a transition at the end, in which case extend the background further.
One other tip. For double-clicking to work when editing, you need to set this feature in iMovie's Preferences. In the Preferences window there is an item "Double-click to" - with 2 choices, Edit or Play. Check the Edit box.
Hope this is useful. I've personally had trouble with "Scrolling Credits" timing and this is how I solved it. The same tip applies to the timing of the "Far Far Away" title. In fact that may have been where I first encountered the timing issue (can't recall).

  • How to Reverse Scrolling Credits? Help!

I need a way to reverse the scrolling credits in iMovie 11. I want them to start at the end, and scroll backwards to the beginning.
    Anyway to do that?
    Thanks.

Make a project that contains your scrolling credits, and nothing else. SHARE it using Export to QuickTime. Choose Apple Intermediate Codec as the codec. Import this movie back into an iMovie Event by using File/Import Movies.
Now you can use this clip and go to the Clip tab of the Inspector and select Reverse.

  • Title on scrolling credits

I checked to see if this was answered, but I didn't see it anywhere. I'm trying to make some scrolling credits, but I want to put a title above the list. Something like "Cast (in order of appearance)" and then list the cast. I don't want a separate scrolling title for this because I have to wait until that clears before the credits start rolling. I just want to have it on top of the list. Does anyone know if this is possible?
Mac Mini Intel Mac OS X (10.4.9) iMovie 6.0.3

Hi Diana - there is no 'one-click' answer, but it is possible to almost do what you want.
    1. Create a centred title (with the 'over black' box ticked, and set to its longest duration) with the words you want, and in the preview click on the words and drag them to the top of the window.
    2. Trim off the ends of this clip to remove the fade-in/fade-out of the text.
    3. Copy and Paste this clip as many times as needed for the scrolling (which you will now add to these clips).
    4. Although you can now use the scrolling title option, its short-coming is that it will scroll over the title at the top of the page). In my experiment I used the Far Far Away title. Type in the cast etc, and choose a duration to last as long as your combined title clips. De-select 'over black', and apply this by dragging its blue 'T' to the front of the previously-created title clips.
    5. It may be worth changing the colour of the scrolling text for added effect.
See how that goes. You will need to experiment. Make the whole thing longer than you at first imagine it needs to be, as the scrolling travels quite quickly otherwise.

  • Centred Scrolling Credits NOT IN CENTRE? WHY?

    Using Widescreen format but
    Scrolling Credits NOT IN CENTRE.
Have centered them and they are nearly centred but lie just a little to the left side.
    WHY?

I have the same problem. iMovie 7.1.1 in a 4:3 project attempting to use the "Scrolling Credits" title. Here is how to reproduce the problem:
    1. Create a New Project
    2. Add a picture to the project.
    3. Add a Scrolling Credits title to the picture.
    4. Edit the title and delete everything.
    5. Now type in some long phrase like, "Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of the party and for all good people to come when they are called."
    6. If you push play (triangle pointing right) in the edit window it all looks fine.
    7. Now, push "Show Fonts"
    8. Select all the text you typed in and set the font size to 60.
    9. Press play again. The bottom part of your text will not show.
    10. Click back in the text editing area.
    11. Arrow down to see that all of your text is there.
    12. Press play again. All the text scrolls by, but is all offset to the left when playing. It looks centered when editing.

  • How can I make the scrolling credits slower?

At the moment they scrol really fast and you can hardly read them.
    Thanks

I cannot move the blue bar in any direction. The clip is stuck on 4 seconds - I didn't choose this length, when I selected Scrolling Credits and dragged them into the Project area that is what iMovie automatically set. Is there a way to extend thetime period beyond this 4s limit?

  • Smooth Scrolling Credits for FCP !#$#

To start, I am creating scrolling credits from scratch in Motion 2 to import into my NTSC-DV FCP5 session.
I had accomplished beautiful scrolling credits in Motion to FCP about 6 months ago and cannot for the life of me produce good looking scrolling credits again! I have gone through this forum and there are about 100 different ideas out there...export using the animation codec with "render fields" selected, simply import the Motion session into FCP and render it, use large fonts, use the "scroll up" behavior, use keyframing... I have even tried After Effects which was WAY easier than Motion but produced similar fluttering effects.
Any way I try to do it, the scrolling text always comes out in FCP after rendering (and viewing on an external monitor) with the all too common jagged scroll...like the letters are fluttering in between fields as they scroll up..
My latest atempt in Motion to create this scrolling text consists of this:
    1) Open an NTSCDV session in Motion
    2) Using the text tool I write in my credits in the "Inspector" under the "text" tab
    3) I then appply the "scroll up" behavior to the text from the "Add Behavior/Text Animation" dropdown menu at the top of the screen.
    4) The record light below the canvas is on, I goto the newly added "Scroll Up" behavior in the "Inspector" under the "Behaviors" tab and there is a keyframe already added at the beginning of the "Scroll Up" layer in the timeline. I move the "Position Offset" slider down so the beginning (top) of the text is right below the bottom of the screen.
    5) I then move to the end of the "Scroll Up" layer in the timeline (which is 30 seconds long BTW), add another keyframe in the "Scroll Up" layer and slide the "Position Offset" slider so that my text has just disappeared at the top of my screen.
    6) I drag the cursor through the 30 second roll in the timeline verifying that it scrolls up the way I want.
    7) I ensure the project properties are set correctly before I save. This includes making sure the field order is set to "Lower" in the "General" tab, and in the "Render Settings" tab making sure the output antialiasing method is set to "Best" and that "Use dithering" IS checked. In the Motion Blur setting the samples are set to "8" and the shutter angle is set to 360.
    8) I then save the project, import the project file into my FCP NTSCDV session, drag it to the timeline, render it, and playback to an external monitor.
    Possible Problems:
    1) I am thinking that maybe the text is scrolling up too slow and it is impossible to get clean text without the jagged/fluttering effect. As when I shorten the scroll to 20 seconds there is less of a fluttering effect (but it is impossible to read the text as it is scrolling up so fast)
    2) There is some "Project Property" setting in Motion that I have messed up.
    3) I should not be using the scroll up feature with keyframing but perhaps just keyframing the actual text itself to move up? (although I have tried this with worse results)
I have wasted hours trying different routes, reading the manual, searching this forum, to no avail. Who has the magic recipe I am looking for? Please help.

    Bryan,
I attempted to adjust the white level, the field order, but don't think ever got to messing around with FCP's processing settings...I am actually encoding the film right now as I was under the gun and actually found the "scroll" plugin in FCP to work just as good if not better than Motion without any tweaking so had to roll wth that. I will attempt to tweak the Motion file again though as I cannot bear sub-par credits. Will also email you the Motion file if you don't mind.
