Scrolling credits that aren't star wars style?

How do you do this?

Use the "Scrolling Block" title. (Or is it "Rolling Block"? I use the Swedish iMovie, not English.)

  • "Star Wars" style scrolling title?

I am a new iMovie user (one week) and am getting frustrated already with the limited titles that seem to be provided. I am looking for two kinds of titles:
    1) A "Star Wars" style scrolling title to present a paragraph of text that bridges a narrative gap in my movie. I thought I could use the "credits" one, only to find out that iMovie automatically splits the text into two halves as though it were crediting people for roles in a movie. Argh! What I'm looking for is not exactly "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" where it disappears to a vanishing point at the top, but just something where a block of text can scroll smoothly up from the bottom and disappear up the top of the screen (if that makes sense).
    2) Also looking for a way to make "subtitles" that appear lower on the screen than the one provided with iMovie.
    Thanks!

...but just something where a block of text can
scroll smoothly up from the bottom and disappear up
the top of the screen (if that makes sense).
    Have you tried "Scrolling Block"?

    iMovie.
Note that iMovie lets you adjust the vertical position of certain titles. As the title plays in the little preview window, move the mouse over the window. If the cursor changes to a cross the title is movable. Click on it to drag up or down.
    "Centered Title" is one.
Other titling options are built into your Mac. They include all the text options in TextEdit, which lets you make lots of cool text. You convert the text into an image and import it.
You can also use the Ken Burns Effect in iMovie to zoom/pan across images of text. You can create a block of text of any style or combinations of style, capture it as an image, and import the image using the Ken Burns effect to animate it however you like.
It's possible too, of course, to purchase third-party title plug-ins for iMovie.

  • Star Wars Far Far Away Credits Question

Again, my apologies for simple questions, but still learning iMovie. I love the Star Wars credits. The only problem is the text scrolls so quickly. I know you can extend the length of the clip, which will then slow down the scroll, however, then I have a fairly long boring trailing part of the end where the text is barely legible, before it will transition to my next clip. Is there no way to control the speed of the scrolling text or somehow cut off the end portion once the text has scrolled by?
    Thanks!

I run into the same issue you mention with the trailing portion. Don't know the fix, but I typically use this workaround.
Create this text in a new temp project, use QT custom export to retain highest settings (to match your source format), and then re-import this back into your main project. This way, you have complete control over which portions to lop off (or even play around with the speed controls).

  • Star Wars scrolling effect

Does anybody know how to create the Star Wars scrolling into the distance titling effect?
I assumed it was just a matter of manipulating the aspect ratio of the frame inside Livetype, but I couldn't find the controls to do this! How do I create this effect?

You can also get FXFactory, a free FXPlug handler from Noise Industries. It comes with a set of freebie filters and one of them is StarTitler. Very slick, very easy to use.
    http://www.noiseindustries.com/fxfactory/
Oh, sorry, just realized this is a Livetype question. The FXPlugs from Noise Industries will get installed so you can use them with FCP and Motion, not LT.

Right now any should work, but to future proof it a bit I'd get the middle one with the Real Graphic card in it, & upgrade to the 2.7 CPU.

  • Can't use time machine star wars interface in Yosemite

Since upgrading to Yosemite I can't get the standard user interface to work with time machine.  When I enter time machine it looks normal (although there aren't any stars anymore), but there aren't any file to restore.  I can scroll back in time, but there's nothing there.
If I just open the time machine disk in finder I can click into the backups folder and access the various date/time stamped folders and access and restore files that way just fine.  Did the old star wars interface go away with Yosemite?  If so, what's the purpose of the Enter Time Machine menu option now?

Just for others who see this page but the highlighted answer doesn't work: I have a MCB with a second, external mornitor - when I tried to access the backups via the finder window on the 2nd monitor, TM didn't work. When I moved the Finder window to the laptop's own display and accessed TM from that display, TM worked fine.

  • Time Machine Star Wars Gets Stuck

I am having a very odd Time Machine problem. I'll start by saying I believe I have followed all things Ponzi and this is something else. I don't think it's the backups, somehow TM itself is hosed.
The backups were created on a USB drive connected to an Airport Extreme, but the problem persists even if I connect the drive directly to my iMac. My MacBook Pro has no issues. I can access the iMac backups from my MacBook Pro without issue wirelessly. I can also access the backups on my iMac indirectly by navigating the drive directly.
When I click Time Machine in the dock on my iMac with no Finder windows open, the drive mounts, and a window pops up, then TM stops and never scrolls up the Star Wars display. Clicking around with my mouse does nothing, unless I click the close icon (the red circle) on the window. Then, briefly, the bottom of the Star Wars display shows (the Restore on one side and the Cancel on the other) and TM "comes back" and it is as if I Canceled from the Star Wars display.
I've followed the steps in the Ponzi note under Star Wars, no change.
This is a very old setup that has worked for years. Still, I deleted the TM backups and redid them, and so they are a few days old and only 3 backups have been performed. But, again, all is well on my MacBook Pro with the iMac backups, so I don't see how that can be the problem.
    Thoughts? I'm stumped.

    (5) repaired the drive.
You still need to repair the sparse bundle.  Repairing the partition it's on doesn't do the disk image.
I used the retail family pack Snow Leopard disk I purchased.
That is also the way I repaired the internal disk (no errors) and repaired permissions.
Have you verified your internal HD? Yes, no errors.
If so, are you sure your internal HD has the GUID partition map scheme? It's Mac OS Extended Journaled and I've never reformatted it or partitioned it.
Very odd why you're getting the " can't install because OS X can't boot from the internal drive" message.  Something is wrong somewhere.  I don't know if it relates to the other problems, but it sure is suspicious.
Three screenshots. It seems the combo buttons don't work (I hear the sound but no file/clipboard) and so these were taken with my iPhone.
That's odd, too.  They should go wherever your screenshots normally go.
#1 When TM is "running" and I right click on a file. The background is just my wallpaper
Ok, now I see what you mean.  The display isn't getting cleared, the "star field" and timeline aren't getting displayed.
OK, I used Address Book as you requested, and the behavior is exactly the same. "Nothing" happens except TM is actually running, and when I click Close I get "Cancel.... Today (Now).... Restore" on the bottom of the screen for a second or two.
Ah, that's what we need to know.  It's not just the Finder.
This looks like your installation of OSX is damaged, but could be a hardware problem.  Since you can't reinstall OSX, try running the Apple Hardware Test.
If you have an Intel Mac, see: Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test.
If you have a PPC Mac, the AHT should be on one of the discs that came with it.  The disc should have Apple Hardware Test and instructions for running it printed in very tiny type.
In either case, run the Extended tests (that may take an hour or more, depending on how much RAM you have).  Write down any error code(s) it shows.

  • How to get Star Wars Rebels in-app purchase to transfer to children's Family Share account?

My wife downloaded the Star Wars Rebels game to her iphone and to the kids ipod/iphone with a different apple id.  We then purchased the full version from inside the app for $5.00.  I deleted the version on the kids phone, and went through the family share purchases in itunes to download the version that my wife had.  The game works but is limited because it is still telling us that we need to buy it.
How do I get the in-app purchases to transfer to my kids (family share) account.
Yes I tried the restore purchases button in the app already with no success.

    Hi, Matt.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are running into an scenario where an in-app purchase will not show on a Family Sharing device.  At this time, in-app purchases are not able to be shared via Family Sharing.  I did verify that the Star Wars Rebels app is able to be shared, but the Content Packs offered with this app are in-app purchases.  If you wish to access the Content Pack on another device, you would need to purchase it on that device.
There are a few things that you can't share:
Songs added to iTunes Match from outside the iTunes Store
    In-App Purchases
Items that are no longer available on the iTunes Store
    Items that were hidden
    Apps that aren't shareable
Which purchased content can I share using Family Sharing
    Cheers,

  • Star Wars Battlefront For e-Mac?

I recently played Star Wars Battlefront on a friend's PS2 and it was awesome! I recently became aware that is available for the Mac, but it requires a 64-bit processor. Being an e-Mac user, I believe all I have is a 32-bit. I would love to get this game, but am not going to buy a new computer for it. Has anyone played on an e-Mac? If so, any problems? Do I dare buy it? Thanks

    David Dobesh,
If you check Aspyr's SWBF webpage, it gives the system requirements as # Operating System: Mac OS X 10.3.6 or later
    # CPU Processor: PowerPC G4/G5 or later
    # CPU Speed: 1GHz or faster
    # Memory: 256 MB or higher (512 MB recommended)
    # Hard Disk Space: 2.7 GB free disk space
    # Video Card (ATI): Radeon 8500 or better
    # Video Card (NVidia): GeForce4 MX or better
    # Video Memory (VRam): 64 MB or higher
    # Media Required: DVD DriveThe requiremnts aren't calling for a 64-bit processor but a 64MB video RAM board; all eMac models eMac have 32MB video RAM. You can probablly actually run the game, if you use the games preferences to set it on medium graphics rather than full graphics quality, and are willing to accept some glitches. Try Googling "Star Wars Battlefront eMac 32MB video" and look through some of the game reviews that turns up.

  • Very specific question re: scrolling credits

I am using the "scrolling credits" theme to end my movie/slideshow. I can't seem to slow down the scroll and the credits are flying by. Any one know how to do this?

In addition to AppleMan's good advice, I thought I would provide an extra tip that may help with the Scrolling Credits title.
I'm not sure whether the tutorial AppleMan has linked to covers my tip, as the tutorials aren't playing for me at the moment. Maybe Apple is doing a bit of maintenance.
Here's my tip. If you have used one of the backgrounds provided in iMovie, to which you are applying a Scrolling Credits title, you may have to extend the duration of the background clip as well as extending the title duration. iMovie's behaviour here is not always consistent.
So, if the title has defaulted to, say, 4 seconds and you want, say, 20 seconds, you should firstly change the background clip to 20 seconds. To do this, either double-click on the background clip to bring up the Inspector, or click on the small gear icon on the background clip and select Clip Adjustments. From here you can change the duration of that clip. Finally, follow AppleMan's advice on how to change the duration of the actual title text. Ensure that this duration exactly matches the new background duration, unless you wish to add a transition at the end, in which case extend the background further.
One other tip. For double-clicking to work when editing, you need to set this feature in iMovie's Preferences. In the Preferences window there is an item "Double-click to" - with 2 choices, Edit or Play. Check the Edit box.
Hope this is useful. I've personally had trouble with "Scrolling Credits" timing and this is how I solved it. The same tip applies to the timing of the "Far Far Away" title. In fact that may have been where I first encountered the timing issue (can't recall).

  • Smooth Scrolling Credits for FCP !#$#

To start, I am creating scrolling credits from scratch in Motion 2 to import into my NTSC-DV FCP5 session.
I had accomplished beautiful scrolling credits in Motion to FCP about 6 months ago and cannot for the life of me produce good looking scrolling credits again! I have gone through this forum and there are about 100 different ideas out there...export using the animation codec with "render fields" selected, simply import the Motion session into FCP and render it, use large fonts, use the "scroll up" behavior, use keyframing... I have even tried After Effects which was WAY easier than Motion but produced similar fluttering effects.
Any way I try to do it, the scrolling text always comes out in FCP after rendering (and viewing on an external monitor) with the all too common jagged scroll...like the letters are fluttering in between fields as they scroll up..
My latest atempt in Motion to create this scrolling text consists of this:
    1) Open an NTSCDV session in Motion
    2) Using the text tool I write in my credits in the "Inspector" under the "text" tab
    3) I then appply the "scroll up" behavior to the text from the "Add Behavior/Text Animation" dropdown menu at the top of the screen.
    4) The record light below the canvas is on, I goto the newly added "Scroll Up" behavior in the "Inspector" under the "Behaviors" tab and there is a keyframe already added at the beginning of the "Scroll Up" layer in the timeline. I move the "Position Offset" slider down so the beginning (top) of the text is right below the bottom of the screen.
    5) I then move to the end of the "Scroll Up" layer in the timeline (which is 30 seconds long BTW), add another keyframe in the "Scroll Up" layer and slide the "Position Offset" slider so that my text has just disappeared at the top of my screen.
    6) I drag the cursor through the 30 second roll in the timeline verifying that it scrolls up the way I want.
    7) I ensure the project properties are set correctly before I save. This includes making sure the field order is set to "Lower" in the "General" tab, and in the "Render Settings" tab making sure the output antialiasing method is set to "Best" and that "Use dithering" IS checked. In the Motion Blur setting the samples are set to "8" and the shutter angle is set to 360.
    8) I then save the project, import the project file into my FCP NTSCDV session, drag it to the timeline, render it, and playback to an external monitor.
    Possible Problems:
    1) I am thinking that maybe the text is scrolling up too slow and it is impossible to get clean text without the jagged/fluttering effect. As when I shorten the scroll to 20 seconds there is less of a fluttering effect (but it is impossible to read the text as it is scrolling up so fast)
    2) There is some "Project Property" setting in Motion that I have messed up.
    3) I should not be using the scroll up feature with keyframing but perhaps just keyframing the actual text itself to move up? (although I have tried this with worse results)
I have wasted hours trying different routes, reading the manual, searching this forum, to no avail. Who has the magic recipe I am looking for? Please help.

    Bryan,
I attempted to adjust the white level, the field order, but don't think ever got to messing around with FCP's processing settings...I am actually encoding the film right now as I was under the gun and actually found the "scroll" plugin in FCP to work just as good if not better than Motion without any tweaking so had to roll wth that. I will attempt to tweak the Motion file again though as I cannot bear sub-par credits. Will also email you the Motion file if you don't mind.

  • Scrolling credits are unreadable when played in full screen

yet they look fine when I am typing in the info on the small screen. How can I fix this so the credit font quality is good when showing the movie in full screen?
    thanks,
    Charlene

I figured it out on my own.. seems that if you have too much info in the scrolling credits, it distorts itself. ARGGHH... had to delete and create a 2nd screen to keep the credits rolling.

  • Cannot open Time Machine restore screen (Star Wars)

I've got a Late 2006 iMac (amongst others) running Lion 10.7.5 which I backup to a NAS drive and for some reason I can't get into the Star Wars restore screen to access the backed up files. When I select Enter Time Machine it connects to the NAS which is a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo and sometimes it makes Finder the focus application but then nothing. The machine seems to backup just fine, no errors connects and disconnects to the NAS. I thought at first it may be the NAS or the backup set where the problem lay, but I even connected a USB drive to it, again it backs up but will not open Time Machine to restore anything. It is driving me mad all the other machine I have work just fine, and the problem is this one has some homework files for my which I need to recover.
    Thanks in advance.

Is that the one in several languages? If so, that's a *kernel panic.* They're usually hardware, but not always. Disconnect everything, except keyboard and mouse. Reconnect one at a time to see if you can find the culprit.
If that's no help, disconnect everything again and run the Apple Hardware Test, from the separate disc that came with your Mac. Instructions should be printed on it (in very tiny type).
If it passes that, you might want to download and run the Rember app, a free and much more extensive memory test: http://www.kelleycomputing.net/rember/

Several tries produced the same results. I then went to a different hard drive and opened applications for the problem hard drive.
You lost me there. What is the "different hard drive"? A clone? Of the same Mac?
Which is the "problem hard drive," the replaced internal?
It appears the restore brought back everything but almost all application icons are grayed out with a slash across them, not third party stuff either but iTunes, Safari, System Preferences, Mail etc. When clicking on them I get the pop up "You can't open the application ____ because it is not supported on this type of Mac"
This almost sounds like you got PPC stuff restored onto an Intel, or vice-versa.

  • Time Machine does not display old files: the star wars screen stays stuck

I have been looking for an known report, but can't find it.
In Time Machine, I don't see the 'star wars' panels anymore. It was working when I installed it.
In an activated Timemachine screen, the date slider on the right of the screen does not react. Only the front most screen is seen = "now".
I used to have time machine on an airportextreme; but because of adding a shared USB printer I had to move the external HDD to my own iMac.
Time machine tells the backups are successful.
Did I do something wrong by moving the HDD around?
Did I do something wrong with 'permissions'? [I added myself as a user with read permissions.]
    Should I reinstall Timemachine?

Sort of. Time Machine stores backup differently when they're done locally vs. over a network.
Double-click your external HD. It should have a "sparse bundle" including the name of your computer. Those are your network backups.
Double-click the sparse bundle to mount it, then try Time Machine again. If that doesn't work, quit Time Machine and control-click the TM icon in your menubar, or right-click the TM icon in your Dock, and select the +Browse ...+ option. That should show your backups in a small window; select them and click the +Use Selected Disk+ button.
Post back with your results and we'll explain further and see how you want to proceed.
