Scrolling desktop images DVI to yellow RCA video on my Sony 40" Bravia

I attached a "DVI to video adapter (M9267)" to my MacBook Pro 2,1 (late 2006).  The desktop scrolls downward in endless stream on my 40" Sony Bravia.  How do I stop the scrolling?

It will never work through simple cable adapters because the yellow connector out of your Playstation carries YUV, which is chrominance information mixed in with a baseband. Your monitor cannot decode such a signal.
Even if you somehow found cable adapters that would facillitate a physical connection, the monitor would not respond to composite video. Sorry for the bad news. There may be more expensive boxes with active electronics inside them that would do all the conversion. But that doesn't sound like what you are looking for.

  • Power Mac Mirror Door DVI or ADC to SINGLE RCA VIDEO OUT to a TV...adapter?

I have a Mirror Door G4 tower that I would like to use as a media center, with an old(er) Magnavox 19" television that only has the single yellow VIDEO IN jack, and the red and white audio L and R. Is there a converter cable that is similar to the one I used to use with my old G4 Powerbook which took the mini DVI and turned it into either composite video out? (I think it was Mini DVI, maybe ADC, whatever that little square video out on the Powerbook G4). I am prepared for low-res results, mostly just want to look at the itunes window and occasionally view utube clips or DVDs.
Also, does the G4 take the original Airport card (not the extreme), and if so does it need a separate antenna the way some G5s do?
And finally should I get good results with a Bluetooth dongle plugged into a USB port on the rear of the G4 when connecting a white Apple wireless keyboard?
Some of these answers will of course sort themselves out with experimentation, but any tips or experience in doing these things would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, m.

I expect the weasel-words in Apple's description are there to be sure that whatever Video card you choose, the card does actually provide the signals needed. These are the VGA-equivalent signals around the Bar at one end of the connector. That gets you Red, Blue, Green+Luminosity, H-Sync and V-Sync. Those signals in combination are all that is needed to build S-Video or Yellow-RCA composite video On-the-Fly (not buffered).
The signals can be sliced and diced to get slightly different versions of Analog Video using adapters built around the SKART interface. There is a cheap one-chip wonder converter used in lots of converters, also loosely called SKART.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SKART
This does NOT do conversion to Digital Video, DVI, or HDMI when starting from VGA. That kind of converter has memory and scanning hardware that pushes the cost up higher than the price of an display card.

  • How to connect satellite set-top box to Qosmio G50 using RCA video-in cable

I want to connect my satellite set-top box to my Qosmio G50 laptop using the RCA video-in cable I received with the computer. (yellow, red, white RCAs and a Jack)
Could you help me where should I plug this cable as I have not found any instructions in the users manual. (The user's manual list this cable on page 21, so it can be used for something somehow for sure!)
(The set-top box does not have coaxial output, and I do not want to include another machine (eg. an old VCR) just to use coaxial connection.)
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Connecting composite RCA video to an HD15 monitor directly?

    Hello,
I am trying to run a composite RCA video signal directly to my Sony SDM-HS75/B monitor that only accepts HD15 or DVI inputs. Is there a cable I can purchase that anyone on these forums has used? I have seen the following cable for sale on eBay but am unsure if it will work with my needs:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/VGA-to-S-Video-RCA-Composite-Cable-Adapter-for-PC-TV_W0QQite mZ320185507645QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item320185507645
To be more specific about what I'm trying to do, I am trying to record video from my XBox 360. I am running the video and audio from the XBox 360 to my Elgato EyeTV 250 capture device, which is then connected to my G5 for recording. I am splitting the composite video signal with a 'Y' adapter so that the video runs to the EyeTV 250 and also splits to my monitor so that I can play the game or watch the video without the delay from the recording, while the G5 records the other split signal in the background. If my monitor had a composite RCA video input this would work just fine, but it only has an HD15 input, so I need to know if there is a cable that can take the composite RCA video with an HD15 end that will plug into my monitor?

No, that cable will not do the job. You need more than just a cable. You need a signal converter like the GVM-2000 ($90). You can probably find similar devices at your local Circuit City.

  • Compressed VideoFormat for sending Desktop Images

    Hi All,
In JMF 2.1.1 solutions, the ScreenGrabber captures the desktop images and uses RGBFormat. Which other VideoFormats can we use so that we can send the compressed data using RTP but still allow higher resolutions. JPEGFormat suports higher resolutions ?

Source format doesn't matter. JMF will transcode whatever the source format is into whatever the RTP format is for you automaticlly. Max resolution you're going to get is the minimum of the two.
In windows, that leaves you with the options of JPEG and H.263, but H.263 at maximum supports CIF (352x288), so you're going to want to use JPEG_RTP as your video format.

  • I am unable to change my desktop image

In System Prefs, selected Desktop & Screensaver. Selected image from pane at right. Used to be the desktop image would change as soon as I clicked on it. Now, nothing happens. Same results when I select an Apple image vs my own jpeg. Checked Help, and I am following the instructions. Thanks for any help offered!

Your System Preferences preference file has become corrupted and unable to save your changes.
Use the Finder Go To Folder and type
    /Library/Preferences
    and click GO.
A window will pop up and scroll down until you find the file
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
drag it to the trash (note there may be two of them, one is locked original, delete the other one you can move)
Now reboot the computer and launch System Preferences, you will now be able to save your changes.

  • Hello! i downloaded OS X Mavericks on my mac .since then my computer didn't restart properly. My desktop image doesn't appear after logging in and i'm unable to shut it down.

Hello! I downloaded OS X Mavericks on my Mac and my pc didn't restart properly.my desktop image doesn't appear and i can't shut down my pc. what can i do ?

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Note the timestamps of the BOOT_TIME log messages, which refer to the times when the system was started. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
☞ When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent of each. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
☞ If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
☞ Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Scrolling an image in a scroller container by dragging mouse

I have an image inside a group with a scroller.  When the image is larger than the scroller size, I get the scrollbars and can pan the image as desired.
I have listeners that create and resize a rubber-band box as the user clicks on the image and drags the mouse over it.  That's working fine.
What I want to add is an automatic, smooth scroll, so as the mouse is being dragged over the image, it begins to scroll as the mouse approaches the edges of the scroll area, and will continue to scroll smoothly until the edge of the image has been reached, or the user moves the mouse back.
This is how my components are set up:
    <s:Scroller id="sourceScroller" width="450" height="500">
         <s:Group id="sourceScrollerGroup" horizontalScrollPosition="0" verticalScrollPosition="0">
              <s:Image id="sourceBitmap" mouseDown="_mouseDownListener(event)" mouseUp="_mouseUpListener(event)" />
         </s:Group>
    </s:Scroller>
The image source is loaded dynamically.
My tests have involved changing the value of the sourceScrollerGroup.horizontalScrollPosition and .verticalScrollPosition, but that had no effect.  I'm not sure how to proceed.  Would appreciate any pointers in the right direction.

  • Pictures I have deleted are showing up when I try to change my desktop image

    Hello all,
I changed my desktop image with no problem. However, as I was scrolling through the images in the iPhoto option, I realized that some pictures that I deleted months ago are still showing up. How do I get rid of these pictures completely? Thanks!

Do you have by error two "iPhoto Libraries"? One with a different name, for example "iPhoto Library2" the other one with the Original Name. I am just guessing.
In iPhoto you have a Trash, which you need to empty regularly!

To see your user folder in the Finder sidebar open a Finder window. From the menu choose Finder > Preferences to open the Finder Preferences window. Under Favorites check your name (the user name you choose for yourself). Your username will show up in the Finder sidebar. You can also check Pictures to see to hopefully show the link to your iPhoto Library.
By default your iPhoto Library will be in your Pictures Folder unless you moved it.
This short video on YouTube explains it well: Display Missing Finder Sidebar / Icons - Mac OS X Mavericks - YouTube
If you still need help I would do to the Apple Support Communities at Welcome | Apple Support Communities since the Finder and iPhoto are both both Apple products.

  • Macbook, Mini DVI to Composite/S-Video and Vizio 32" LCD.  HELP: Resolution

So I bought this adapter to hook-up my LCD TV to the Macbook, and I cannot get the correct resolution for this TV.
"32" HD 1366 x 768 native LCD HDTV" is the Specs.
NOW, I did download SwitchResX, but was unsuccessful in registering the custom 1366 x 768 resolution, the LCD TV simply prompts: "No Signal"
Under 1280x768 the TV does work, but it looks blurry.
    Please Help

The Mini DVI to Composite/S-Video is for use at standard TV resolutions, such as 640 x 480. Fo the full 1366 x 768 try using a DVI to HDMI cable with the Mini-DVI to DVI adapter

  • Desktop Image and Screensaver: doesn't work

I can not change my desktop image, and my screensaver won't start.
I was playing around in Desktop Preferences tonight, setting different speeds for the iTunes Artwork screensaver to see how it'd look, and suddenly, System Preferences just crashed on me. I wasn't doing ANYTHING strange, just playing with the options of the original screensavers that came with my computer, which is brand new. I don't have any third party screensavers loaded on my machine. The desktop image was one I made myself, with Photoshop. I have absolutely no idea why it's acting this way.
Even stranger, out of curiosity, I created a second user account and tried the screen saver while logged in the second account. The screensaver worked just fine. But still nothing in my main account. Any ideas?
When I try Desktop Images and Screensaver now (within System Preferences), it CRASHES on me. I get this error message:
"The application System Preferences quit unexpectantly.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple."
If I reopen it again, I get the same thing. The second error dialog will always have the option to "try again." If I try again, I can actually open the Desktop Images and Screensavers window. I can't change anything, however. If I try changing something, I get the following message:
    "System Preferences -- New Settings
New settings have been created for this application. Do you wish to use these settings from now on?"
With two buttons for yes or no. However, no matter which button I select, I get the same results.
I've run OSX through Jaguar and Panther, so it's not like I'm a new user who just clicked the wrong thing. I'm seriously stumped here. Can anyone help? I'm a little worried about this.... Thanks.
Dual Core Intel Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

THANK YOU!!!! Yes, it was the preferences in my library causing the problems. I just deleted the screensaver preferences, and that fixed all the problems, including the desktop image problem.
I also think that maybe an alarm clock program I downloaded called Aurora may have been partly to blame. I had Aurora authorized to wake my computer from sleep, even though I had password protection enabled. This might have conflicted with the screensaver somehow, dunno.... Let me know if any of you are successfully using Aurora without any problems, and I will reinstall it. But for now, that program is off my system.
Anyways, thanks a load. You guys are all very helpful. -- Dean

  • How can I use applet to get the desktop image of client

    hi,I have a question to ask u.
How can I use applet to get the desktop image of client? Now I develop a web application and want user in the client to get his current image of the screen. And then save as a picture of jpeg format ,then upload it to the server?
I have done an application to get the screen image and do upload file to server in a servlet with the http protocal.

Since the desktop image is on the client's local hard drive, you'll need to look at trusted applets first.

  • Does anyone else have an iMac that displays a non-selected desktop image at start-up?

I bought my system new in 2009. It's a 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo Intel processor with 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 installed memory. I'm running OSx 10.6.8 Mavericks. The behavior of not displaying my chosen desktop image is new and disturbing. Although the problem seems to be malevolent and non destructive, the cause of the condition is difficult to understand & correct. If Macintosh has designed this to indicate a more serious problem, I salute the protocol but now ask for conditions that may trigger my machine to ignore it's user directed programming and decide to display a 'default' desktop image. Interestingly, at the same time the correct image remains on the Display tab of 'System Information' page . What's wrong with my untouchable, reliable, uncrackable Mac? A more obvious sign of corruption is the sporadic temporary freezing, from a few seconds up to what seems to last over a minute, of most media. It happens while using many different players including iTunes, iDVD player, VLC, Quicktime, Flip4Mac, etc. Any intended help with either or both of these glitches will be reviewed and appreciated. I'm trying to work out if it's just this mac I'm working on, or actual bugs/annoyances of InDesign CS5 (version I'm using is 5.5)..
    What version of OS X?
WHat exact vesion of InDesign? Hold down Cmd and select About InDesign. Is it 7.5.2.318 or something else?
    3) ID doesn't quit when I tell it to (but it loves to 'unexpectedly quit' which I'm guessing is this mac more than ID)
No, this is InDesign's fault. Post a crash report to http://pastebin.com/ and post a link here and we'll tell you why it happens.
Most of your items sound like some third party software interfering with InDesign. They don't sound like normal problems.

  • OSX Mountain Lion - Cannot change desktop image

I used an image I'd downloaded as desktop wallpaper. I have tried to change it to the default image, other images, sold colours, but the same image always returns after I reboot (warm and cold boots). Note that I can change the desktop image, but it always reverts back to the old image. The changes do not stick. I cannot locate the image in Finder. Any ideas?

I have the same situation as Marc; however, I do not have access to images. The multicolor circle keeps turning.
This application (Desktop & Screen Saver) is not working anymore.
    Thank you.
