Scrolling FAIL in Safari

Since upgrade to Lion, I am getting absolute scrolling failure in web pages.
The number of bugs that are coiming up in this very bad os, as it goes through daily use are unprecedented.
The newest is failure to be able to scroll up or down on web pages.
Also CLICK FAILURE and other unpredicatable page loading behavior.
This is happeneding with a 1 year old 17 in MacBook Pro and a 20 inch alum. iMac 2007.
iMac has newest trackpad.
Restart of Safari does not always fix it, sometimes requires a full restart.
The LION BUGS and FAILURES keep mounting up.
I HAVE applied the latest OS update
10.7.1 which fixed a wifi problem.

Yes, I'm having the same problem. There's nothing there to enable me to scroll up and down unless I extend the screen slightly to the right (as you look at it). Then it appears. Go to another page and it disappears and you have to extend the screen to the right again. Very time consuming and annoying if you're trying to get work done.

  • Flash Player keeps failing in safari

I am using mac OS X Yosemite.
For some unknown reason flash keeps failing in safari, but works in chrome. I can't seem to resolve this issue, This is what I tried so far from answers I received in the apple support forums:
If you can't install or update Flash, follow these instructions.
If you have installed the latest version of Flash, please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.
    Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced ▹ Delete All...
In the sheet that opens, check the box marked
Delete All Site Data and Settings
then click Delete Data. Close the preference pane.
    Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    Step 4
    a. If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then select the Security tab in the Safari preferences window. In the list of plugins on the left, there should be one—and only one—entry for "Adobe Flash Player," showing the same version number that you installed. Select that entry. On the right there will be a list of websites for which you have specifically allowed Flash, if any. It's normal for the list to be empty. Below that is a menu labeled
              When visiting other websites
From that menu, select either Allow or Ask.
    b. If you still get the alerts, then go back to the Flash Player preference pane and select the Advanced tab. Click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
    c. If the alerts still persist, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
              Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
              Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
              Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
    Then click the button marked
              Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
    Step 9
    Select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
We have also run diagnostics on my mac but could not resolve this and eventually I was told the only thing left to do is seek support from adobe.
    Please help!

alright, also, I saw that in those instructions it tells me to delete these:
    <home directory>/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash\ Player
    <home directory>/Library/Caches/Adobe/Flash\ Player
now I can't find any of that stuff but I did find two files called com.macromedia.Flash Player.plugin.sb
in the library sub folders. should I delete them?

  • Sliding Panels - Problems Scrolling Horizontal in Safari

    I have adjusted the CSS in order to make the Sliding Panels widget scroll horizontal using the float: left;
It is working fine in Firefox but no matter what I do it does not scroll horizontal in Safari, it continues to scroll verticle.  It seems as if it is just not responding to the float in the style.
    What am I doing wrong?
Here is the URL to the page I'm working on.
    www.wyndetryst.com/testportfolio/portfolio.html

It works fine in my safari. Do the examples work in safari?  (Example 2: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/slidingpanels/SlidingPanelsSample.html )
Did you also change the rest of the setting or just the float:left. As it needs width changes as well as seen in the example.

  • Why can't I scroll only in Safari with my magic mouse

Every so often I can't scroll only in Safari ( Firefox etc. OK) with my magic mouse. I can resolve that by quitting Safari, holding the option key while clicking on Go. This brings up library, click and click on caches. Then click on Apple: safari. Trash the cachesDB and empty trash. Click on Safari and the previously open window comes back up and you can scroll. This lasts an indeterminate amount of time and then freezes again.  How can I fix this permanently?

I just turned them off. Will see whether this solves the problem when I can go for days without it freezing. Thanks. One question. Why are the extensions on in the first place?

  • Vertical Scrolling problem in Safari

I'm currently having an odd vertical scrolling problem in Safari.  This issue is not reproduced in Chrome or Firefox.
I've been able to reproduce this issue doing something very simple:
I have a browser wide rectangle with a solid color.
Beneath that I have a browser wide photo.  (Rectangle set to browser edges and then fit to fill with photo.)
And beneath that I have another browser wide rectangle with a solid color.
    Then I scroll.
Once the photo (the middle element) reaches the top of the screen I have shut the scrolling off so the photo will stay static. (Initial motion 1 / Final motion 0 set in the "Fill/Scroll" tab - and the key position is set so it stops at the top of the browser.)  As expected, the lowest box continues to scroll upwards and cover the static photo.
This very simple effect is flawless in Preview mode, Chrome, and Firefox.
Yet in Safari, the photo, once it reaches its resting spot, does stay static, but seems to jump and jitter all over the place while I continue scrolling and the below content covers it.  (In the other browsers it's super solid like a real static background.)
I've read there are some parallax scrolling bugs in Safari Mavericks.  But I'm still in an older operating system using 10.8.5 and Safari 6.0.5.
Any suggestions or work arounds on how to correct this? (Again, I'm controlling the scroll using the scroll tab found with "Fill". Should I also be using the one found under Scroll Effects?  What the best one to use? Although it does work in the other browsers… so…  maybe I'm not doing anything wrong and this really is a Safari problem.)
    Thanks you.

    Hi
Please share the site url, I will have a look.
    Thanks,
    Sanjit

  • Download failed. Safari cannot download this file.

    Hi there!
I am trying to transfer a Ticketmaster ticket from "oss.ticketmaster.com" to Passbook. I have done this several times in the past, no problem. However this time, I am getting the following error message, "Download failed. Safari cannot download this file."
Has anyone else encountered such an error... and could it have anyting to do with the new iOS updated that was recently released?
    Thank you!!
    Celeste

What sort or type of file would that be?

  • Touch scrolling fails in Outlook 2013

Recently the ability to use the touch screen to scroll through email messages has failed on my Surface Pro II running Office 365's (Office 2013's) version of Outlook.  I can get the touch scrolling \to work by removing and recreating the Outlook profile, but as soon as I activate the iCloud add-in for calendar and contacts, the touch scrolling fails.  I have no iCloud email account.  The mouse scrolling through messages works fine.  The connection between Outlook and iCloud has operated perfectly until just the last few days.  Any suggestions?

If this is an Exchange account, why are you trying to configure it as a POP3 or IMAP account?
Anyway, time-out issues are usually caused by having a virus scanner installed which integrates itself with Outlook.
    Which do you have installed?
Depending on your virus scanner solution (even when it is just a trial), you must either uninstall or disable this integration component. Testing it with your virus scanner disabled is not a proper test; you really need to disable the integration part.

    Hi,
I have an Apple Magic Mouse working perfectly, but not scrolling while using Safari (works fine on Firefox etc). I can't find settings on Safari to fix it...
    Can anyone help with this?
    Thanks

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click Details then type facebook in the search field then remove all facebook related items.
Now empty the Safari cache. Press Command + Option + E on your keyboard.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try accessing your Facebook page.
If that didn't help, click History from the Safari menu bar then click Clear History.
Quit and relaunch Safari and try Facebook again.

  • Gmail access fails on safari. But it works when i login as administrator. Please help!

I am unable to use gmail from a regular user account on my iMac.It fails with an error string that ends with "... becasue Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server "accounts.google.com". "
I have tried resetting safari and it does not help.
I have tried adding DNS entries based on some discussion board suggestions and that does not help either.
I am able to access gmail as an administator on the same machine though!
Please point me in the right direction, please! Thanks!

You may have to take the computer to the Apple store to have the computer checked out.
    Dead line is tuesday?
    1. Try an external USB keyboard.
    2. This may help.

    3. Virtual keyboard
There is a virtual keyboard available in OS X 10.8.4
        System Preferences > Keyboard
Checkmark the box beside "Show Keyboard & Character Viewrs in menu bar.
Click "Input Sources"  and then "Show input menu in menu bar".

  • Why is mousewheel scrolling disabled in Safari 5.1?  Fix in sight?

Why is mousewheel scrolling disabled/broken in Safari 5.1?  is there a fix in sight?  I see posts going back to July about this.
This is too much of a fundamental, functional problem to have continued for so long.  I upgraded to 5.1 in hopes of the frequent crashes ceasing, but now I'm immediately struck with this problem.  Not a good start.

Agreed, going to Firefox is the step in the right privacy direction.
    http://yro.slashdot.org/story/11/09/25/2131205/facebook-cookies-track-users-even -after-logging-out
AdBlock Plus, BetterPrivacy, Ghostery, Click&Clean and yes even NoScript (drag a Temp allow all button to the toolbar)
To deny your computer from accessing Facebook
    In Admin user
    sudo pico /etc/hosts
Arrow down below the material you see there and don't change it
    add
    0.0.0.0 www.facebook.com
    0.0.0.0 www.facebook.net
control x to exit and save.
another easier way (can use in Standard User this way) is to use the free TextWrangler and open file by name:
    /etc/hosts
    and perform the same thing.

  • I have osx 10.6.8 and have lost the side scroll bars on Safari.  When I go into System Preferences there is NOT an "always" option for displaying Scroll Bar.  How do I get it them to display again?

When using Safari the scroll bars no longer appear on the right hand side.  When I go into System Preferences the option to Always have the scroll bars displayed is NOT there.  How/Where do I go to get these to show all the time?

It SHOULD be under the General tab in System Preferences:
(Note that this is a Mavericks screenshot, but it should be there in Snow Leopard, too, if indeed you're still running 10.6.8 as your profile says)

  • No vertical scroll bar using Safari or Firfox

I created my own website using Dreamweaver CS3 and it looks great using IE. I just viewed it in Safari and Firefox and noticed there is no vertical scroll bar on the right so people can not see the bottom half of my pages. I have researched this online and nothing seems to be working. Any ideas will help. My website is www.binglevet.com if that helps anyone view the source code. Thank you. Caroline

You are awesome! I actually did run that report and there was this message; however, I didn't realize it was the main cause for many to be unable to view my site when using Firefox or Safari. I deleted the line and it now scrolls in both browsers. Thank you for the help.

  • Unwanted/unneeded scroll bars in Safari 4

I have a blog (www.RabbiBen.org) that suddenly began to show scroll bars next to each entry, in addition to the usual bars at the right side of a window. These bars only appear in Safari, not in any other browser I have tried. Is there a way to get rid of them in Safari?
My guess is no, given the number of posts regarding problems with Safari 4. Maybe Apple rushed this release too much.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Ben Sendrow

Just looked at you page. Imeditly I knew what the problem was...
Here's the text box div tag, div class="sfblogentry"...
*The css for the above div should be set to none for scroll bars or not set at all in the css.* The scroll bar is set to auto. When set to auto some browsers will show a scroll bar even is one is not needed. Or, when set to auto the text inside the div is so close to the inner walls of the text box. The browser will trigger for a scroll bar even if a scroll bar is not needed.
Here's a link to what your page should look like in Safari.
Click to view your fixed sample web page.
Was an easy fix took less than a minute to fix. There may be some elements missing and I didn't want to short through all the css pages to re-link them. There is six some odd css pages. Way to many css pages for a simple page like your.
To be honest with you, the html and css coding is a mess. If someone else was to take over the coding for your web page. It would be faster to rebuild the site than to work with what you have been provided.
