Scrolling in Safari very wavy and stutters compared to Firefox--Solutions?
Playing with my new Macbook Pro for the past two weeks. I have noticed that scrolling up and down through sites found on Safari, especially news stories with pictures and texts, seems very wavy and stutters slightly, enough to be disturbing. I finally downloaded Firefox just to do a comparison and noticed that this phenomenon is greatly improved or completely disappeared in Firefox. Is there a way to fix or adjust Safari to improve this? In Firefox I am not able to use the three finger swipe to go back a page or forward, which I really appreciate.
Another phenomenon, which might be the norm here, is that when I click on the sidebar to scroll up and down a page, and move the bar fairly fast, I see a big wave across the page corresponding to the position of the sidebar.
Anyway, I would really like to stay with Safari if I can get it to perform a little more smoothly.

No solution I'm afraid but just to let you know I have exactly the same problem with my MBA core i5 1.7GHz with 8GB RAM which I purchased last week. Some web pages (Facebook is a good example, The Guardian as well) are really unresponsive/choppy while scrolling up/down, while others are ok. I have also noticed that typing text into web forms (such as this one) produces a noticeable lag with text appearing).
Obviously interested if you or anyone else has a solution!

Select Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them and test.

Musca scrolling webpage is very slow and a little freezing

I installed Musca on yaourt ,my os is x86_64,
when I scrolled in firefox ,the web page scrolled very slow and with some freezing.:(
but the termial (urxvt) and other apps was working without this problem.
my video driver is x86_video_radeonhd ,
my video card is ATI HD3650.
when I use fvwm ,all things works well!
thanks for your help!!!:DHi, I see you're pretty new to the forums. Unfortunately, I don't know what could be causing your problem. So, let me first direct you to the thread about musca here. You may also want to look at the ATI thread (no idea). Have you tried enabling/disenabling compositing?
Secondly, let me direct you to the Forum Etiquette guide, especially the part about bumping. Usually you should only "bump" your thread after 3-5 days and after you have tried more, researched more, and only to tell us any new information you have, like "XYZ doesn't help either, it makes Firefox segfault."

Space bar scrolling in safari is slow and laggy
Been searching this for a few days, and while I know some people are having "jaggy" scrolling issues in Safari (caused - or not - by the new Flash install), my experience is slightly different, and appeared at some point over the last week or so.
In short, it's just a lot slower to scroll via space bar. It used to snap right down to the next part of the page almost instantaneously, but now it sorta "slides" down. Scanning long web pages is a drag.
Chrome and Firefox still jump instantly to the next page via space bar, so it's a Safari-based issue. Curiously, the two-finger scroll is still fairly instant on Safari, but it's not a natural movement for me.
Anyone else having this issue, or possible fixes?Ok...
Some users with a similar issue found a solution by uninstalling the Flash plugin, then reinstall new, then repair permissions. See this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11691898�
Uninstall Flash
Install the most recent version of Flash here.
Now repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. -
When I scrolled text became very small and I do not know how to get it back to normal
I don't know what happened. I was moving my mouse over the screen and the text kept shrinking, until it's so small you can barely read it. I don't know how to get it back to normal size.
Holding the Ctrl key while scrolling increases or decreases the zoom level. You can reset the zoom by pressing Ctrl+0 (zero). [[how-do-i-use-zoom|More on Zooming here.]]

Safari very slow and crashing : (
Can anyone help?
Since Monday I have been having problems with Safari running really slowly, despite having a full signal on my broadband connection. It has also crashed every night this week. I have found the crash log for today which I have included below.
If anyone has any ideas why this is happening, please could you let me know. I am not hugely technical so if you could keep any instructions simple, that would be really great!

Trash the preference file and restart (com.apple.safari.plist).

Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
You could also try a Restore if the reset doesn't work.
You may have defective batteries. Were these purchased new? -
Cover flow is very slow and crashes on iOS 5 or is it just my iPod Touch?
Basically, everytime I use cover flow on my music and scroll around it laggs and crashes. The simple solution is to not use it I know but I'm just wondering if you guys are having the same problem.
Same here on my 3GS. Found that restoring a second time the phone helps,no more crash,but still very slow and freezing,compare to flawless response on previous IOS3-4.
Note that looking at diagnostics reports,it have lot's of "LowMemory" and "awdd" messages with dates corresponding to the times is was using cover flow.
Even outside of cover flow,my 3GS registers lags corresponding "LowMemory" reports quite often.
I enable then sharing to Apple of those diagnostics on the phone,hope they fix this soon! -
Slight latency when typing and scrolling is Safari
Something is wrong my Safari. There is a slight delay when typing and when I scroll really long webpages that are fully loaded into the browser. I created a new system profile and verified this problem is NOT happening there. It's very annoying and I don't know what is causing this. It only happens in Safari and no other program that requires typing and scrolling. Can someone help?

Since it's a user specific issue and only Safari, more then likely a third party Safari add on that's causing this.
Go to Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab.
Deselect: Enable plug-ins
Quit then relaunch Safari.l
If you notice a difference when typing and the scrolling issue disappeared, follow the instructions here > Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues -

Using the PrintScreen-before-and-after-each-action method seems a
little better for me. Either method requires way too much editing
for a simple "let me show you" movie. I have moved on to version 3
since it seems to behave a little better.
I think it is odd how sometimes Captivate puts an action
(like a mouse click) on a background from *two* slides previous.
Why would it ever go backward - especially skipping over the
previous slide to get an even older screen. If I have forced a
screen capture, you would think it would stay with that.
I realize that I am not using Captivate where its strengths
seem to be (eLearning) but there must be a lot of people capturing
demos of web-based material. Does everyone have this
problem? -
Why does my safari browser frequently gives me a gray screen? I resetted my safari many times and it doesn't help. Also sometimes when I scroll it gives me this weird scrolling effect where everything is either upside or messed up.

My macbook pro is running very slow with some strange mouse and window movements. The trackpad is very unresponsive and when responding the cursor moves on its own and/or very erratically. When on safari the window suddenly zooms in or highlights words and looks them up via dictionary. I currently have a wireless mouse connected and I am still having the same problems.
I fee like I may have a virus or my laptop is perhaps being accessed remotely. All of the sharing options are unchecked.

Very worried!!Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo). -

How do I remove an unwanted toolbar? I added a radio station to my ibook and it set up its own toolbar so when I go to Safari I have to use it. It involves using Bing for everything as well. It's very annoying and I want to remove it. I can't just type in a URL and have it go to the site. It takes me to all of Bing's choices. Also, when it anticipates what I'm typing (incorrectly) and I have to delete it's guesses all the time. Can anyone help?
Have you looked at Safari's menu bar > view> toolbars to see if it can be unchecked from there,also see if there is a button to collapse the toolbar on the bar itself.
