Scrolling in SAFARI

I've posted something similar before when the MacBook came out in its first week, but not many people seem to have noticed the issue.
Now that the macbook's been out a month, I wanted to find out if more people are noticing this:
When using two finger scroll in SAFARI, the web page doesn't seem to scroll smoothly as compared to the old MacBook White and MacBook Air first gen. Somehow there just seems to be a waving/rippling effect.. I don't know the technical term to explain this. The page displays fine as soon as I stop scrolling, but while scrolling there seems to be a rippling effect of some sort.
I tried it on a demo machine at the shop and it has the same problem. also on MBP late 2008 as well.
Is anyone else noticing this? Do you know if Apple will fix it? I love the new MacBook but I use SAFARI a lot and it's annoying the ** out of me...

Most think it can be fixed with a patch.

  • Color fades when scrolling in Safari 4

Since upgrading yesterday from Safari 4 beta to Safari 4 proper (and from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7), a strange things happen: when I scroll up or down in Safari, the color fades. It returns if I stop and click outside the app (i.e. on the desktop background), then recurs if I again scroll in Safari. Didn't happen before the upgrade, and it's quite annoying. Any suggestions?

What are the exact steps you took to fix the problem? I've run Repair Permissions twice now, restarted Safari, and still having the issue:
    http://www.thekruels.com/grabup/714cfa6b8dc4e60f9bd24a058870ecc8.png
The above example occurs when I scroll down any page. The content of the page becomes very, very dark and completely unreadable.

  • Hi!  My magic mouse won't scroll in word for mac - but it scrolls in safari and outlook.  So frustrating!

I just upgraded to OS X Yosemite and am using Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 version 14.4.5.  My magic mouse no longer scrolls in word - though I can click on things with the magic mouse.  And the magic mouse scrolls in safari and outlook.  Any thoughts?

I had the same problem. I just quit Word and restarted and it worked. I tried with a new document just to try it at first and when that worked, I tried it on the document I was working on and it was fixed!

  • Smooth Scrolling in Safari

Is there a way to enable smooth scrolling in Safari? I know is enabled in the Mac version of Safari but is there a way to do it on PC?

I already discovered the answer to my question in another post. Turns out Safari 5.1 does not have the feature for smooth scrolling. I think it did in earlier versions but was dropped in v 5.1.1. Apple, we need it back!
Now, I don't know how to cancel/withdraw this question. Can someone help me with that?

  • 10.6.5 breaks scrolling in Safari

Just upgraded using Software Update and scrolling in Safari is no longer smooth when using the touch pad. I used to be able to read a web page and slowly scroll down at the same time. Now web pages flicker badly as you scroll. Try smartmoney.com, bbc.com and even news.google.com. I see people recommending the Combo Update, is it different? Also, can I use it since I already did Software Update?

I repaired permissions before the combo update and then again after the update. There may be some improvement but now I am sensitive to the flickering and may not be the best judge of it. My wife did volunteer this morning (before the combo update) that the computer seemed to be slower than it has been. She uses it every day and I did not tell her about the update so that confirms what I had felt about it also being slower.
I have the MacBook Pro with 2 video cards in it and I switched to the faster card and there are definite improvements in screen response and with pages loading faster in Safari. Scrolling in Safari is a little smoother but iPhoto is still real jerky.
I'll consider this solved because I think something in the video drivers has been updated (negatively) and it will take a further update from Apple to fix it. It's really too bad because I just became an Apple user this year and was impressed by how smoothly every thing works. Now the jerkiness in Safari and iPhoto feels more like the old MS Windows experience.
Thanks to all for the help!

  • Why does it lag so much when I scroll in Safari? (OS X Lion)

I've noticed that ever since the OS X Lion update, webpages in general are pretty laggy when scrolling.  I let the page completely load and when I scrollthere is stuttering and lag.  It is made most apparent when I use momentum to scroll a long webpage.
It seems to happen mostly with more complex pages (which makes sense I guess).  For example, some parts of NYTimes.com doesn't have much lag when scrolling.  But most websites (like mine: http://wistfulwriter.com) are pretty laggy.  I know I use a background image and use special fonts, but I never had this problem before the Lion update.  Many other sites lag too: CNN.com, WashingtonPost.com, etc.  It seems like any time there is an image, there is stuttering.
I have tried setting the zoom level to default (command-0) just in case, and I have exited unnecessary applications and everything.  The lag is still there, regardless if I use fullscreen mode or not (though on some sites it is not as noticable in windowed mode).
    Any clues?  Thanks!

Clay G wrote this on another thread so I'll give you his suggestions and it WORKED FOR ME!
Go to FINDER-LIBRARY-PREFERENCES- and delete the folder com.apple.safari.rss.plist
Go to FINDER-LIBRARY-CACHES- and delete the folder com.apple.safari
    Restart your Mac.
I too was experiencing some severe lagging in some web sites-using Safari.
Also heard that Adobe (v 10.1) can cause lagging problems. V. 10.0 is more stable.
Did what Clay offered and NO MORE LAGGING.
BTW, you'll have to do a search(SPOTLIGHT) for SAFARI but it pops right up and you still have all your bookmarks and favorites.
    Hope this helped.

  • Jerky scrolling and Safari not displaying most jpegs in one user a/c

    Hi
I upgraded my 15" mid 2010 MBP to Mountain Lion and find that it is behaving oddly. I have two different user accounts and the oddities vary between accounts. In one, most jpegs in Safari are not displayed, substituted with black rectangles with patterns of coloured dots (in the other, there is no problem with rendering pictures). The scrolling of pages is extremely jerky in Safari and far from perfect elsewhere (slightly jerky in Preview eg). Even the dock magnification is jerky, with icons breaking up as you pass over them.
In both accounts the scroll bar in Safari flickers on and off irrespective of whether the setting in General prefs is for the scroll bar to display permanently or not. The less troubled user account is noticeably snappier in action (eg opens the About this Mac screen with no delay compared with a second or so in the other account).
I've tried ditching the caches for Sarari with no effect. I rebuilt permissions after the install. I'm at a loss to know what to do next as it feels like a generic video problem but, bizarrely is more or less confined to one account.
    Any clues?
    Best

Check Safari > Preferrences > Extensions
If there are any installed, turn that OFF, quit then relaunch Safari to test.
If it's not an extension issue, try troubleshooting third party plugins.

  • Slight latency when typing and scrolling is Safari

Something is wrong my Safari.  There is a slight delay when typing and when I scroll really long webpages that are fully loaded into the browser.  I created a new system profile and verified this problem is NOT happening there.  It's very annoying and I don't know what is causing this.  It only happens in Safari and no other program that requires typing and scrolling.  Can someone help?
    Thanks!

I created a new system profile and verified this problem is NOT happening there.
It only happens in Safari and no other program that requires typing and scrolling.
Since it's a user specific issue and only Safari, more then likely a third party Safari add on that's causing this.
Go to Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab.
    Deselect:  Enable plug-ins
    Quit then relaunch Safari.l
If you notice a difference when typing and the scrolling issue disappeared, follow the instructions here >  Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues

  • How do you scroll in Safari??!!

As I was typing another message in this forum with my iPad, I realized that I could not scroll back up or down if the post was longer than the 10 lines that fill this compose box.
All you can do is swish the page up or down,, but really need some way to arrow ip or down, or maybe it is just that the scroll bars interface does not work properly on iPad Safari.
I noticed the same issue trying to scroll inn Google Docs earlier.
    JH
when i type this far down, can't get back up to the top of the message!
Scroll bars should have popped up on the right side by now, but they didn't.

You have to tap and hold at the top or bottom of the textarea. It's actually slightly annoying if you want to just place the cursor on a line at the top or bottom when it can scroll, because the scroll can be unexpected.
It does seem that the textarea scroll is way too slow though.
What would be nice is if you you could two-finger swipe inside a textarea when it has focus, or if you could tap and hold in the box and get a little up-down arrow telling you that you can now scroll the area via up/down motions, kind of like some browsers do when you click a scrollwheel.

  • Continuous scrolling in safari doesn't work

I've installed Mavericks and thought this feature will work. But it doesnt, neither with reading list nor with shared links. Even though there is a name of next article/link at the very bottom of the page, it does't scrolls further. Any idea what could be wrong?

I am having same problem on my mac pro, logitech wired mouse, scroll to next article is not working in safari shared links. Does somebody know some keyboard shortcut for scrolling those articles? Therefore I hope that apple will adress this issue and fix it in next update, because as graphic designer I am forced to use laser wired mouse.

  • Scroll Bar Safari Mavericks

    Hi everybody!
I've upgraded my Macbook Pro early '11 to Mavericks yesterday and I think I've found a bit of a bug in Safari. When idling on a web page, I've noticed that the right scroll bar activates and deactivates intermittently, thus creating some kind of a flicker.
Does anybody have this problem? Do you think is a Safari bug or a Mavericks bug?
    Thanks!

This happens in Mac AppStore too!

I have two displays and experienced a similar problem on one of them. I eventually reduced the offending display’s contrast and the Safari scrollbar normalized.

  • PDF Scrolling in Safari

Pdfs scroll very badly in Safari. It is jerky, very sensitive, too fast. This has come up before in the Communities, but the solutions I've found either don't work or aren't relevant after OSX updates. In preview scrolling is well behaved.  Any update solutions?
I am using a Magic Mouse on an iMac running OSX 10.9.1,  Safari Version 7.0.1 (9537.73.11).
Same problem on a MBP (same setup).
    Thanks

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • [MBA 2013] Choppy Scrolling in Safari and Adobe Reader

    Hey guys
just got my baby from the local Apple store a few days ago.
This is my first ever Apple product and I am loving it in many ways...
except for an issue with scrolling and animations.
Despite having installed the latest drivers
I am still getting often choppy scrollings in Safari.
Normal pages like Engadget and the Apple website are smooth,
but when i go to sites like Facebook, it immediately goes choppy. That's fine.
Yet nothing beats the choppiness (is that even a word ) in Adobe Reader
I am a university student and I need to view lecture notes in PDF format frequently in class.
Scrolling these files is not an enjoyable experience especially if the notes are long,
i mean it's mainly text inside these files and very rarely do you see an image,
so I'm guessing it's not a problem with the memory nor the HD5000 graphics.
You can call it stuttering or even frequent freezing coz it's simply UNBEARABLE.
Somehow i guess it might be either :
    1. Issues with the drivers (coz I've heard that the 2012 MBAs don't have this kind of problem)
    2. Adobe Reader for Mac is simply not well-built :s
    Specs:
    2013 Macbook Air
    Core i5 Haswell 1.3Ghz
    4GB Ram
    128GB SSD
    Anyone got solutions?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi WiLD_Cat,
No solution I'm afraid but just to let you know I have exactly the same problem with my MBA core i5 1.7GHz with 8GB RAM which I purchased last week. Some web pages (Facebook is a good example, The Guardian as well) are really unresponsive/choppy while scrolling up/down, while others are ok. I have also noticed that typing text into web forms (such as this one) produces a noticeable lag with text appearing).
Obviously interested if you or anyone else has a solution!

  • Jerky scrolling in Safari 2.0.4 (since 10.4.7)

I was disappointed to find that the recent 10.4.7 update made two-fingered-touchpad-scrolling extremely jerky in Safari. In order to make sure that I wasn't just imagining it, I got a copy of 10.4.6's Safari for comparison, and there is a definite difference. Anyone noticed this problem? Shiira for example scrolls like butter...

Without knowing what's in the CSS file and what's unique about that installation of Tiger, it's impossible for anyone to tall you. Why can't they update their system to 10.4.11 and the many updates that go along with it?
