Scrolling madness

I must be missing something, but my iPhone's driving me crazy: when I try to scroll up, down or sideways, the touch screen is so sensitive that I constantly, unintentionally open pages. Is there a trick to the scrolling process? An area of the screen in which I won't select stuff I don't want? A finger technique? Or is this the way the phone's designed, so that getting from an item at the top of a list to an item further down inevitably involves loading unwanted pages one after the other? This is not isolated to my phone, but is the same on my wife's phone. Can anyone help with advice on this matter?

FWIW, I've had my iPhone for about 2 weeks and I've had the same problem. It's finger technique. I'm getting better at it. Accidental selections are rare for me now. Scrolling requires a quick brush with the finger...no lingering allowed.
If you're like me, you'll eventually get the hang of it.
I've learned a few tricks. If it's a long list (like in Contacts or iPod), you can hold your finger on the letters on the right-hand side and scroll to a particular letter. Also, you can get back to the top of any list by tapping the menu bar at the top of the screen.

  • Smooth Scrolling made clear and easy

A new folio appeared in Bob Bringhurst's jewel app "DPS Tips", discussing all kinds of special content and interaction. In the Smooth Scrolling section it states that you cannot create Smooth Scrolling articles simply by "Adding" an article. This should be achieved by "Importing" Articles. And it specifically states that you can't create horizontally scrolling articles. This baffles me ! I know it can be a bit tricky, but when explained and understood carefully, there's no problem in using the "Add" button or even to create a horizontally scrolling article on the fly.
The tricky part is, how the InDesign file (an article's half) is 'born'. To be able to use the "Add" button to create a properly scrolling article, you must check that the Document Setup upon making a new file (or even later on) is set to the proper single-page size (in a 3:4 dimension) and with the desired orientation (landscape or portrait), before you hit the "Add" button. Because this is where the Folio Builder gets its information from about the dimension and orientation. Afterwards, you set the page's length with the Page Selection tool – but take care: ONLY the length ! DO NOT use the width or orientation properties with this tool, nor use the Height setting in the Document Setup, although these seem very obvious for this task. You can even correct a page afterwards, and get the "adding" right (and lengthen it properly) if it has been malformed and unaccepted by the Folio Builder before.
So, to conclude: start a scrolling page with a single page, normal size (1024x768), landscape or portrait, add it to the Folio, and then lengthen the page with the Page tool's Height setting. Don't forget to set the Smooth Scrolling option accordingly among the Article's properties in the Folio Builder panel. No big deal !

That's indeed the culprit: when you have already set the elongated landscape page upon New Document. But it's still easy to correct that afterwards: switch it back to 768 in Document Settings (the cropped content becomes invisible but remains in place), aAdd the layout (it will become the landscape version), and stretch the page to the desired length with the Page tool's Height property.
Both methods can be difficult, depending on the way you prefer to work. Visual designers who already find it hard to keep track of a Package folder will shiver upon seeing the rigid hierarchy of a Folio folder; technical users won't mind preparing a folder stucture like that. Using ADPS requires many more unlogical steps than just this, like updating a design (not at folio or layout level, but only the whole Article) or discovering that one missing or extraneous orientation prevents the folio to be previewed.
So either way it is fishy...
But I'm glad that this aspect will be tackled by an update, soon !

  • Datagrid scrolling madness

    Hi all.
I am trying to get a container to scroll when a datagrid is
    scrolled.
Is there any easy way to do this.
I am aware of the h and v scrollposition properties but the
difference in how the datagrid scrolls causes the two items to
    scroll out of synch.
    Any help is greatly appreciatted

Hi, you can do this by percentage. Here's an example

  • SQL Report with Scroll - javascript

This is an example of Apex SQL Report with Scroll - made with javascript: http://tryapexnow.com/apex/f?p=12090:9
    Waiting for comments here.

Yes, because of the page generated by APEX, if you use the Report Template APEX 4.0 Standard, the div created for the report table has the ID "with_scroll" but there is another div which actually contains the table, and it's ID is "report_with_scroll", they just add a "report_" in front of it.
    I find the table by searching through the childs of that div: var table = document.getElementById(myRegion).rows[1].cells[0].firstChild;
You can use the first one, with the ID "with_scroll", but this code line will be longer.
Also to addapt the script for other report templates, you just need to see the code generated by every template, and correct this line, to get the real table containing your report.

  • Smooth scrolling horizontally rather than vertically

Hi is it possible to have smooth scrolling set from left to right rather than up and down, I've done some research into smooth scrolling and all i could find was articles showing smooth scrolling vertically. If this is not possible is there another way to set a horizontal scrolling long page?
    Cheers
    Clinton

Hi Thanks for your response, did you mean using the scrollable frames overlay? or in the builder set the Article behaviour to smooth scroll horizontally? I basically wanted to have a  really long horizontal scroller made up of a series of images. I've tried the scrollable frames overlay however once you filck to the scrollable page it locks you on the page and the only way to get out of it is to select a different chapter in the bookmarks. I've also tried setting the behaviour to smooth scroll horizontally however it still snaps to the individual pages, id prefer if you could scroll between pages? (im previewing on the content viewer for ipad, not sure if this has anything to do with it?)

  • Premiere Elements 11 + Windows 8 pro = slow timeline scrolling!

    Hi!
I experience slow redraw of the timeline clips when I scroll,
which makes it very difficult, slow and unpleasant to edit!
This in nothing new to you all, as I have read in many posts about this problem!
And everyone is asking (below these posts) questions like:
"do you have the latest QuickTime codecs?" or "do you have the latest graphics drivers?"
or that our pc are slow or that we work with strange video formats or to change to no thumbnail in the clips or that its
    the antivirus fault or whatever.
    It is not all these!
    As I have read:
-It can happen in many versions of Premiere Elements(maybe in all of them, I don't know)
-It can happen in both ATI/AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards
-It can happen in all hardware configurations CPU/motherboards
-It can happen in all windows versions and both 32/64 bit
So I am guessing it is not our fault.
Can Adobe finally fix this problem with an update? It's been so many versions until now!
    please... Is it so difficult?
Can't the programmers see what are we talking about? Can't they fix the programme?
Before I bought Premiere Elements 11 I had the 9 version in windows 7(64bit)
The same problem, slow/laggy timeline redraw when moving back and forth.
The solution I found was to disable the Aero feature in windows 7!
And oh my god... the timeline then was so fast and smooth, I was so happy to edit!
So I compromised with that(disabling aero).
Recently I have upgrad the same PC to windows 8 pro(64 bit) AND bought Premiere Elements 11. (hoping for speed in every possible way!)
The slow timeline scrolling still happens in both PRE9 and in PRE11.
And guess what? in windows 8 pro you can't disable the "aero feature"!!!
You can only change some visual settings, and even if I disable all of them, nothing changes!
So are we really stuck with the laggy timeline scrolling in windows 8???
Premiere Elements 11 is so much faster in all other things (exept the timeline scrolling)
In the preview window for example. It can play really smooth, in real time WITHOUT render preview
some pretty difficult compositions I make! multiple layers, with greenbox and many other filter effects!
Which in Premiere Elements 9 (in the same PC) the preview play was very laggy!
(don't forget that with aero disabled in PE9(win7), same PC, same complicated compositions, timeline scrolling superfast!)
I think they made some pretty good graphic card use in the preview play in PRE11!
I present and edit a youtube show with Premiere Elements with demanding compositing and everyone thinks I use Premiere Pro CS
version or After Effects CS. But I don't, I want to be legal and I can't aford the prices of these applications
so I buy and use the Elements series which are very powerful as well, if you know what to do and HOW to do it!
See for youselves my show I posted today(in Greek, I am from Greece), which I edited in PRE11.(pefrect greenbox, perfect!)
http://youtu.be/HdKAKI6P8tU?hd=1&t=1m28s (open in a new window)
or move time to 1:28 from the below youtube video window.
But unfortunattely the timeline scrolling made my editing unpleasant and slow!
My question is: Will I, (now that I have upgraded to windows 8 pro 64bit) have to edit ALL my next shows/videos
with the slow/laggy timeline scrolling??? please tell me something to hope for...

I have an ATI/AMD FirePro  v4800 1GB GDDR5 with the latest drivers for this card (8.982.8.3)
Is my video card not compatible?
this slow redraw of the timeline happened way before
and everytime a new driver version came up I had installed it but that didn't change anything.
Only with aero disabled I would enjoy a fast timeline scrolling in windows 7. (now, not possible in windows 8 pro)
Bill how can you explain this? Same video card and everytime with the SAME NEW drivers, aero on=slow timeline, aero off=fast timeline!
Is there some kind of a fix that we can always wait from our graphics card companies to include to new drivers??? (for how long???)
or maybe is it all up to Adobe and its own programme?
Are we all supposed to have old video display drivers?
Can someone make some kind of a poll for people who have this problem to vote to see where this problem apears, in which configurations, in which graphics cards? (assuming they have latest drivers)
so we all finally know what/where is the problem.
I love the premiere elements series and thats why I want this to be solved.

  • Feature request: horizontal mouse scroll

    Hi,
I would like to submit the following feature request:
please improve the emulated mouse in Windows guests in VMware Fusion so that it can handle horizontal scrolling made available by mice with a "tilt wheel" (such as those from Logitech, Microsoft and the Apple magic mouse). Currently, it only supports vertical scrolling.
    Thank you!

  • Is there a way of making the Edge Commons parallax effect work smoothly with DPS on the iPad?

I want to create a feature for an iPad magazine utilising the parallax effect shown here...
Parallax Scrolling Made Easy (Adobe Edge Animate Online Week, Episode 9) - YouTube
I am using Digital Publishing Suite to publish to an iPad.  I ran a test and the effect partially works, but not smoothly.
As you scroll down the animation does not play.  Once you finish scrolling the animation then jumps to whichever point has been reached on the timeline, rather than animating as you scroll down the page.
Is there a way to get the same animation effect through DPS that you see in the browser?  Or is it not compatible?
    Thanks!

    As lllaass said, you can't.

I'm having an issue with freezing while viewing messages. The screen will either totally freeze or will scroll madly up or down.

    Thanks for the question.

Is the Messages you are checking the Native Messages or are you checking Bridged Messages? If you are checking Bridge Messages what version of BlackBerry® Bridge™ are you using on your BlackBerry® smartphone?
Have you tried turning off the BlackBerry® PlayBook™ for 10 seconds and turning it back on (as opposed to using the restart button)?
I look forward to you reply.

  • Behaviour for Calender in iOS 5 has changed - but rather irritating

After upgrading to iOS 5 the behaviour in Calendar in iPhone has changed - and not to it's advantage. There are two issues, and they go like this:
    1.
Before: When I moved an event in Calendar fra e.g. Nov. 2nd to Dec 2nd the Calender window stay positioned at the Nov 2nd I moved the event FROM.
Now: In iOS5 you are now moved foreward TO the date Dec 2nd you move the event TO. From there I have to scroll back to the date Nov 2nd for further editing on that date. Rather irritating when you have for instance ten event you have to move to a date in the future.
Is it possible to change these settings so you stay in the calendar at the date you started editing?
I have not been able to find out how or if this is possible, but maybe someone knows?
    2.
Before: When you wished to delete an event in the Calendar, the delete button was quite close to the top, and a light scroll made it visible.
Now: In iOS5 there is now a rather big square for Notes at the bottom and before the delete button. So now you have to scroll two times instead of one. Time consuming when you use this often.
Can this square with Notes be deleted somehow?
Help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Strictly speaking, you are right to say that IMAP does not support Push (I think there is a P-IMAP protocol that does).
But the feature (i.e. automatically downloading messages from the server as they arrive at the server) definitely exists, and it worked just fine before iOS5 (it still works in the mail on a mac I believe). Your IMAP mail server needs to support IDLE, but assuming that it does, you can receive mail the same way you would via push mail.
But in answer to the OP's question, my understanding is that the latest version of iOS5 no longer supports the IDLE command (just like push, but calling it that apparently causes confusion for some) in IMAP. So until another update, I think we are stuck with fetching every 15 min.

  • Component AV cable not working any more

So a few months ago I bought the Apple component AV cable for travel and home use and it's been working great with my iPhone 4. However recently I just tried it and it stopped working. I Plug it into multiple TVs and the video plays but it plays in black and white and plays as if the vertical went out like on an old fashioned TV, scrolling madly bottom to top over and over. The audio appears to play just fine. I did recently upgrade to 4.2.1 and I'm not sure if I tried it after that update. Anyone hear if the update killed the cable or is it mine simply died prematurely?

    Try this.
Check Settings >iPod>TV Out. Look what it is set too. Judging by your symptoms, it is set to PAL. It should be set to NTSC.
Let us know if that helps.

  • N96 keeps rebooting on startup

I was having my N96 working quite satisfactory until I expected to receive a vcard.
The device rebooted and after finishing the startup process it reboots again.
It keeps rebooting for the last hour.
For the short time it is up, it seems works properly - I even get reminders working.
It also reports I have new messages...
However, it is very slow in response.
Sometimes it even detects the PC Suite. But it is the last thing before white screen appears,
I've tried to connect the cable to backup the info, but there is not enough time to do so.
I tought that a possibility would be to upgrade the firmware, but invane too.
Is there any way to (at least) backup the data from the device?
    Regards

You have not provided any details about when the reboot happens, so how can anyone tell where to fix?
What is on the screen? GRUB? "Uncompressing kernel"? "Linux Version.."? "INIT:..."? "login:"? Something else?
Do the disks spin? do they seek? make any noise at all?
Does the screen stay black? flash? scroll madly?
    A hint, please.

  • Display of eBay Sales Manager Sold Page to wide for screen. Scrolling is driving me mad. Help please for Newbie to Mac!

I have a new Mac Book Pro 13” & an iPad for my Amazon and eBay business. I have been a PC user.  The problem relates to both.
On my eBay Manager Sold page, the display of the page is wider than my screen. I use Safari and all other webpages are fine apart from this and a couple of other eBay Sales Manager pages.  I have tried using the eBay default column widths for the Sold display page & also setting the widths of the Sold columns to my own preferences.  However, on each page refresh the display page width reverts meaning I am having to scroll left and right to see full details of each sale.
Help would be much appreciated as it is driving me mad.  I have tried all the usual things - page display, clearing cookies, restarting computer but nothing helps.

    Hey mylittlefleur,
Sounds like the eBay Manager Sold page expects a very wide window.
Does the content get too small if you zoom out the window?
Zoom in on webpages - Safari Help
Make the webpage content larger: Choose View > Zoom In, press Command (⌘)–Plus Sign (+), or pinch open on your trackpad. To make only text larger, choose View > Zoom Text Only before you zoom in.
Set a minimum font size for webpages: Choose Safari > Preferences, click Advanced, then select “Never use font sizes smaller than.” Click the pop-up menu and choose the minimum font size you want.
Expand to full-screen view: Click the green full-screen button in the top-left corner of the browser window, or press Control-Command (⌘)-F. To return to standard view, move the pointer to the top-left corner of the screen, then click the green full-screen button again, or press Control-Command (⌘)-F.
Of course you can zoom out to see more.
