Scrolling of screen using proximity sensor

Does anyone know how I can switch off the function that allows me to scroll and select using a finger placed close (but not touching) the screen?<br>Thanks

I stand corrected, there's no mention of this on the user guide, odd.

  • Nokia X6 Touch screen and Proximity Sensor

    Hello!I have a problem.
When talking on the screen are activated any keys - the media, the button to turn off the microphone. Sometimes when you dial and put the phone to the ear he cut off talks. Proximity sensor works and the screen fades to where my ear. I do not know how to obtain it but it is very nasty. Version of software after the update is 30.0.003 but the problem remained. Please help!

  • My phone's proximity sensor is always turned on.

When I turn on the screen, the proximity sensor is turned on as well. I definitely turned off the siri and there's no app to activate the sensor. I read some question like this and they said reset its settings, but it doesn't work. What should I so? I think it drains my battery life.

You didn't read my problem. Calling is working. If you wanna see ur proximity sensor is on or not, turn off your room's light and make dark. And you can see. I don't have any problem with calling someone and it works well. But this proximity sensor is always working even though I don't call anyone. Do you have any solution? If not, don't reply it

  • Locking the screen with the proximity sensor

    Hi,
I'm hoping that there's a setting for this and I just missed it.
According to the manual the phone has a proximity sensor so that if you're talking on the phone and it's pressed against your face, your face won't be pushing buttons.  The manual also says that it only works while making calls.
Is there a way to enable the proximity sensor for other times, i.e. when the screen is locked?  The reason I ask is that I keep the phone in my pocket - if there's an alarm reminder (or text message), the screen temporarily unlocks, so when I reach in my pocket and get the phone (even holding it on the sides), the alarm frequently gets snoozed or silenced - and goes away before I can see it.  I had the same problem with the mechanical buttons on my N95 but was able to resolve that by just being more careful taking the phone out of my pocket.  Doesn't work in this case!
Any thoughts on this one?  It's one of very few things that really bother me about this phone.  If there was a way to use the proximity sensor to keep the touch screen locked while the phone is in my pocket, that would be a huge fix.
    Thanks!

  • Proximity Sensor locks touch screen

Hello, I got a Z1C, the screen broke and I replaced it with a new funcioning one, but the problem is that whenever the proximity sensor notices that something (ear, hand, pocket) is closing in on it it does its function of locking the touch screen but it wont release it.
meaning if the proximity sensor senses something is near it it will lock the touchscreen but it wont release it, not unless I restart the phone by pulling the sim card out/in.
This is very annoying seeing as whenever I pull it out of my pocket / make a phone call I gotta pull the sim out and in again.
I tried changing screen, sent the phone to a lab who said that the sensor is perfectly fine and even hard reseted the phone, nothing works!
is there anything I can do? any drivers related to the proximity sensor?
    thanks in advance,
    Tal Lavi.

I can't be sure this will work but you could try performing a system repair as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone
Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the onscreen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP
If that fails then you need to either return your device to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/

  • Shouldn't the proximity sensor disable the screen during call w/headphones?

I've noticed that the proximity sensor does not automatically disable the touchscreen when I'm on a call if I have the headphones plugged in.Is this the case for others as well? Since I keep my 3GS in my pocket during these calls, what tends to happen is that the "end call" (or whatever it is called) button gets pressed from my movements and my call terminates at some point.
    Does this make sense?

I am experiencing the same issue. This has not been fixed as of 7.0.3. It's a very annoying issue since it completely breaks the "hands-free" benefit of using siri. Now I always have to take the phone out of my pocket, voice dial, turn the screen off, and put the phone back in my pocket. very hard to do on a bike.

  • Proximity Sensor: What if Apple told everyone to use their headsets?

That's essentially what they're doing by providing free bumpers. Not everyone is going to need it, cuz not everyone is going have reception problems. Though, the underlying cause for reception error (placing the antenna in an area where a user is likely to bridge it) will still be there.
My point is, what if for those people experiencing the Proximity Sensor issue, Apple just decided to say hey... use the speakerphone, use the supplied headset, or just hold it away from your face?
At least they finally addressed the problem, but it seemed like an after thought. Till the problem is fixed, I've been using the headset, but the thing is I shouldn't have to.
BTW: I can't return it, cuz my 3G is gone and my ultra-durable-scratch-resistant screen cracked (my fault, I know :p)

Would a cracked screen affect the operation of the proximity sensor? I wonder.
    Phil
Nah.. I was experiencing the problem before I accidently dropped the phone. I had took it in to an Apple store, and they offered to replace the phone for me, but I had to come back when I had more time and a day off from work. Well the day, I was supposed to come in, was the day I dropped my phone. MY BAD!!!, oh well.. hopefully it's a simple software fix.

  • [BUG] iOS 6 - BATTERY DRAIN : SIRI Raise to Speak/Proximity Sensor Always On/Flashing When Screen Active

Bug: Raise to Speak sensor for Siri remains on whenever the screen is active - regardless of Siri Raise to Speak Setting (enabled or disabled).
After updating to iOS 6 (via iTunes - not OTA), I noticed that my battery was taking quite a bit of a hit.  Granted I was checking out the new features but aside from a very short call, nothing major in the way of activity.
I had also noticed that Siri sounded quite a bit different with iOS 6 (10A403) than with 5.1.1 (9B206).  Not only did the Siri Voice change but also the responses vary between the two iOS versions.
Example: What is the weather like in Alaska?
    iOS 5.1.1 response:
Here's the forecast for Juneau, Alaska through Monday
    iOS 6.0 response:
Here's the weather for Juneau, AK through Monday (note: Siri does not say "Alaska", instead Siri says 'A-Kay'
With iOS 6, Siri sounds more robotic.  After looking at speech rate settings and comparing between the two versions, I could find nothing different.  I decided to post a video and this is where the Siri bug became interesting and tied into the battery drain with iOS 6.
Remember with 5.0.1 we saw a hit on battery drain and one of the fixes was a fix to the proximity sensor (http://hottipscentral.com/could-siri-be-hurting-iphone-4s-battery-this-little-li ght-might-mean-something/).  Well, it appears this bug is back in iOS 6.  When I went to do the video, I noticed that my 4s had a flashing light near the earpiece.  It remained on continuously.  The only time it would stop flashing was when the phone was locked and the screen inactive.  As soon as I hit the lock button to bring the phone out of lock, the sensor would begin to flash again.
Give it a shot, hold up your iPhone to a webcam and see if your result is the same.
Submitting this to Apple via the feedback form.  Please do the same if you are seeing the same behavior.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

I dont believe so Amy.  Phone has not sustained any damaging drops nor any liquid spills.  Was not an issue before but I figured I'd post as I believe this is a definite bug.  I neglected to mention that I have my wife's 4s (5.0.1 build) which I am using as a comparison.
Based on the issues folks are reporting with the ambient light sensor, its either the proximity or the ambient light sensor causing the drain.  I've turned auto brightness AND raise to speak both off and the sensor continues to flash as I described in my opening post.
If others can confirm, this will definitely need to be looked at by Apple and fixed.
I just found this - same behavior (posted 7/24/2012 on another forum - source link below).
Hi folks, remember the proximity sensor (always on bug) I reported here in iOS 6 Beta 1 bugs/feedback thread? It continues to happen in beta 3, I reported to Apple and the answer I got from them is that it behaves how it's intended to do
Thing is, when you turn Raise To Speak feature off, and use your webcam (no IR filter) to verify if it turned infrared proximity sensor off, results that it didn't. Since iOS 5 this bug has been present, power cycling, or doing a soft reset solves this issue but this solution does not apply in iOS 6. Don't have an idea on how hard it is on battery draining, but it makes no sense that this sensor stays on forever even when you turn this feature off. Unless it has to do with constantly display brightness adjust feature that we have noticed came with iOS 6 version. Doing some test of this feature (some of you commented about a brightness bug in earlier posts) I noticed that ambient light variations make that display brightness adjust accordingly to brighter or darker ambiences. Previous to iOS 6, the sensor samples the ambient light, and adjusts the brightness; it does this only once--each time you unlock the phone after waking it. Now in iOS 6 you can easily watch how brightness slider adjusts itself when display senses light variations. If you open Passbook app it raises brightness to full (it is supposed to act this way for easy reading of barcodes) but getting out of Passbook app makes that brightness readjusts itself responding to actual ambient light intensity (this adjusting task occurs slowly until brightness slider stops to right level).
I've checked and ambient light sensor and proximity sensor are separate and work differently but if Apple says that an always on proximity sensor in this iOS version is behaving how it is intended to do; all that I could think of is that it has to do with ambient light "sensing"??

  • My cheek/ear selects things on touch screen while taking calls. Proximity sensor problem?

    Hello all
Had my X3 Compact for a couple of months now and really liking it.
APART from the fact then when I am on a call the screen still seems to be a little sensitive to touch.
I hear beeps of things being selected. Very often when I finish the call I see the screen is on Notifications or Quick Settings screen, or sometimes the Date and Time screen. Sometimes I notice that my cheek/ear has turned on Bluetooth from the Quick Settings screen.
Sometimes while on a long call (ie more time in which to involuntarily press things) the other person will suddenly not hear me anymore - no doubt due to imprecise cheek/ear selection!
Is there something wrong with the Proximity Sensor? I have tested the Sensor with the available diagnostic and it seems functional. And my peripheral vision tells me that the screen goes black as I raise the phone to my ear.
I've heard that this model can occasionally overheat, but I've never noticed/felt any dramatic peaks in temperature.
    But something is clearly wrong.
As I said I have tested the Proximity Sensor.
I have not dropped or damaged my phone.
I do not use any kind of screen protector or case.
My software is up to date.
Any thoughts/ideas would be very welcome!!
(I have contracted the phone the EE in the UK - I have not contacted them yet as I thought it would be best to go straight to the manufacturers.)
    Thanks very much
    Jamie

Well I have been facing this issue since the first day itself and this isnt any issue at all!!
What happens is when we answer a call, out phone isnt in lock state and also we arent holding our phone constantly in one position to our ears/cheeks so theres rubbing of the screen (due to our ears/cheek) which eventually swipes down the Status bar Quick settings and then randomly turns on any feature icon our ear.cheek touches. And we keep hearing some beeps.
So what I do is once I answer a call I always make it a point/habit to manually lock the phone via Power button. This way I have found my personal solution to this problem.
And this is the only solution for this nagging issue
Also if you want, you can completely remove all icons which bother you from Quick settings so that even if your phone isnt locked while on call, nothing will get activated in the background.
So follow my steps and enjoy your Z3 without worrying about this issue.

  • Phone works great but when on a call proximity sensor kicks in turns off the screen. When I pull the phone away from my head screen is still blank. The force hangup/lock is the only way to bring the screen back on

    hi,
phone works great but when on a call proximity sensor kicks in turns off the screen. When I pull the phone away from my head screen is still blank. The force hangup/lock is the only way to bring the screen back on.
I purchaged it before one month onl. So i wont understand how it comes. Please help me. I am waiting for you reply.

"Your face is so ugly, it broke your phone!" Ha ha. Get it? How I was joking there? About your iPhone not working correctly after... <sigh>
But seriously, you said the situation only happens when you have been on a long call, so maybe the iPhone is just autolockng?

  • Where is the scroll bar that used to be on the left hand side of the screen?

Am very aggrevated at itunes 11.0   trying to search through my 16000 songs on my ipod.  there is no vertical scroll bar that used to be on the right hand side of the screen.  How do I get it back?????

    Thanks! That solved it.

  • Proximity Sensor Use

    Hey guys
I am looking for information on the use or the proximity sensor on the iPhone.  I have done Google searches and haven't found anything on the proximity sensor and development use.
Is the proximity sensor open to use for development?  Is there any documents at all mentioning the use of this or is this allowed by Apple?
    Thanks

  • Proximity sensor not working correctly...screen won't turn back on!

Alright so I'm loving my iPhone 4, but I've been having one glaring issue: the proximity sensor turns off the screen during a call(as normal) but then the screen won't turn back on until I lock, force hangup and lock again. Very frustrating because I was unable to dial a number to be transferred while in a call. Seems like the same issue is going on with other iPhone generations upgrading to iOS4 in the other forum sections, but I'd never think it to happen with a brand new 4. Could it have been my restore file from my 3GS?
Anyone else having this issue? Thanks.

If resetting the phone from Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All didn't do the trick, try doing a hard reset: at the same time, press and hold the home button (bottom of the phone) and power/sleep button (top of the phone) until it restarts. That seems to do the trick for almost everyone.
Will doing the hard reset lose all my settings and data, like the erase iPhone option?
Or will it just reboot it keeping all settings etc?
    Many thanks.

Hi I had this problem with my wifes case, my defender worked fine, turned out it was her white inner case. Did you get the Pink on white one? If so, I've been told you can color in the proximity sensor area of the defender with a black sharpie (on the white part) and that shouold fix your problem.
I just tried that as I have her case here still and coloring the proximity sensor area black worked.
