Scrolling of timeline

Hi everyone :")
Is it possible to switch off the scrolling of timeline during playback or record? Maybe someone know how to do this...

in the bottom right corner of the timeline area, click the icon with two vertical arrows pointing at each other.

  • Weird Automatic Scrolling of Timeline

    I am running Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 7, 64 bit, with all the latest updates.
    I'm getting some weird automatic scrolling of the timeline happening.
    When I hover the mouse pointer anywhere on the left side of the screen, (including over the "File" menu bar portion) the timeline automatically starts scrolling left.
    When I hover the mouse pointer anywhere on the right side of the screen (like over the vertical scroll bar), the timeline automatically scrolls right.
    The only way to stop the scrolling is to move the mouse pointer away from the sides of the screen.
    This seems like an error -- but did I accidentally turn on some feature?
    Any suggestions how to get proper control back?
    Thanks,
    Nick

    Thanks for looking into this o promptly.  It's in the middle of the clip I'm marking.  It just happened again to me, and I'm paying a bit more attention to what happens when it occurs.
    All is well as I'm working on a video track,  using the "go to next/previous keymark" arrows, which moves the CTI.  I want to fade to black so I right click and hold to drop the marker, but when I release the right mouse button, the diamond marker is "stuck" and moves left/right/up/down as I move the mouse.  (unexpected behavior)  I have to right click the mouse a couple of times to get it to release the key frame marker.
    Now when I move the mouse to the far left to select the "next keymark" arrow, the CTI stays put on the timeline and scrolls off the screen on the right as I move the mouse to the left, dragging the whole timeline back to the beginning.  The keyframe that I just dropped is somehow corrupt.  The CTI won't land there if I click next/previous and if I put the CTI on top of it and try to delete it, it stays on the screen.  Deleting the clip from the timeline and inserting it again (loosing my markers) returns me to a stable state.
    I'm guessing it's a mouse driver.  My PC is a Dell laptop and I'm using a USB connected mouse and keyboard, rather than the touchpad.

  • Scrolling in timeline goes pixelated

    Hello,
    Whenever i watch i youutbe video people scroll through the timeline without having the picture to render.
    What happens for me is. I scroll through my video and the picture get's picelated and I see it loading the frame.
    Is this hardware sided or can I do something inside the software?
    Specs:
    AMD Fx-4300 3.8GHZ
    8GB Ram-1600MHZ
    ATI HD 6450 If i'm corect.
    BTW:
    What are good memory and multiprocessing setting for me?
    I have no information about my HDD's
    I will research if needed.

    As Rick says, you can turn off Adaptive Resolution if you want. Details about preview modes are here:

  • Crash when scrolling the timeline

    this happens every single time:
    if I zoom on the timeline, then I scroll to the right (to reveal next edits), Premiere crashes. if I zoom to the left it doesn't crash.
    sometimes it says "sorry Premiere has to shut down we'll try to save the project", while other times it simply crashes and the default Apple crash report appears.
    this happens on CC 2014.1 and latest 2014.2 and it's very frustrating because I have to use workarounds in order to move through the timeline.
    I'm on OS X 10.9.5, on a new Mac Pro with 2x D700 GPUs, 3.5GHz 6 core CPU and 32GB ram.
    any idea on what's causing this problem and how to solve it?
    thanks!

    Here's another thread on a similar if not identical issue: Premiere Pro CC Crashing when Scrolling Through Sequence in Timeline - Audio Waveform Goes Blank First.
    In order to keep the discussion centralized, please post the following there:
    information about your system
    a crash log
    If the Renderer is set to use GPU acceleration, please switch to Software-Only [File>Project Settings>General]. Also, if the pulldown menu for the Renderer shows both CUDA and OpenCL, try both of those options.

  • Preview does not update when scrolling through timeline ?

    Hi there,
    I have a strange problem since I installed the new After Effects CS4. Usually when I scroll through the timeline, the preview always live-updates in a lowres version, and when I release the left mousebutton, the quality gets better. That's the way it should be. But now, nothing happens when I scroll, but when I release, the preview updates. This is quiete enoying, because when I do font-animations, I need that live preview. Am I doing something wrong? On the exact same computer of my collegue, it works perfectly...
    Thanks for any hints...
    Michael from not yet sunny Munich

    Hey! You're my man!!! I always looked at the buttons beneath the preview-window, but nothing changed. I've never seen this button you mentioned.
    THANKS A LOT! That saves a lot of time!

  • Turn off vertical auto-scroll on timeline?

    When working zoomed in on some detail on the timeline, with tracks numerous enough (and large enough) to extend vertically off the top and bottom of the timeline window, FCP (5.1.4) sometimes starts trying to "help" by auto-scrolling vertically, just as I move the cursor near the top or bottom edges of the window.
    It's always unpredictable: it doesn't always happen, but when it does, it's always NOT what I want, frustrating my concentration, and requiring a manual scroll back to where I was working.
    Any way to turn that off?

    Hmm, thanks, Jerry: I feared as much.
    I am using a generic USB (HP actually) two-button mouse with a clickable scroll wheel - although of course, this auto-scrolling occurs with no buttons nor wheel clicked (nor wheel scrolled) - just when the cursor is moved towards the edges of the timeline window.

  • Scrolling the timeline

    Greetings. First time poster, long time FCE 3.5 user.
    I have been at this FCE game now for about a year and a half and have a love/hate relationship with it. My background was with the DPS product Perception RT which was an absolutely amazing editing package. Unfortunately DPS is gone and that simple pro system Perception has been left well behind in the ever changing world of digital video.
    Onto the modern I guess.
    What I want to know is whether or not FCE can scoll the timeline during playback. I like to see the position of the scrubber on the timeline as the video plays back and I constantly have to hit stop, advance the timeline and resume playing again. This is tedious. If it cannot than this little update from the folks at apple would be a welcome addition.

    Thanks for the feedback. I have a list of suggestions for apple. At its base FCE is great but I'm afraid someday I may punch out my computer in a fit of frustration.

  • Problems with scrolling through premiere timeline using arrow keys and shift arrow

    This is a really weird problem in cs6.
    When I load a clip into the source monitor i can scroll throughit fine using the arrow keys, and shift arrows and my shuttle pro controller.
    When I place the same clip on to the timeline it really struggles to scroll using the arrows or the shuttle pro, its really kerky and sdlwo to scroll the timeline, which is really frstrating, becuase it can play the footage fine in the source monitor.
    The clips will playback fine, but scrolling through them just doesn't work as it should any ideas?
    Cheers
    Mike

    I changed my shuttle settings to make the shuttling more responsive:
    1 - 5 times second
    2 - 10
    3 - 15
    4 - 30
    5 - 45
    6 - 60
    7 - fast as possible
    At least I changed this a long time ago - don't know if these are the defaults or not.
    It'll only shuttle as fast as your system is responsive of course - so if you get instantaneous scrubbing by dragging the CTI in the timeline with the mouse, you should be able to get good performance with the shuttle. Of course that performance depends on the type of footage and how demanding it is on CPU to decode and whether youi have effects applied etc etc etc.
    I edit pretty much exclusively with Sony XDCAM EX 1080P 25 footage we've shot on EX3 and PMW-350 etc and I get very very fast performance on the timeline - no issues at all i7 6 core 4GHz with 24Gb ram and fairly fast RAID array for footage.

  • CS4 - scroll timeline view to playhead

    I am in process of updating my systems from PPro2 to CS4.
    With the timeline selected:
    I mark both in and out points in the timeline. I use the hot key for "Go To In Point", then zoom in and the timeline view stays centered on the in point, moving the out point outside of timeline view.  If I use the hot key for "Go To Out Point" with the timeline selected, the playhead disappears as it moves to the right but the timeline view does not follow... it remains at the in point.
    With the Program Monitor selected:
    If I use the "Go To" buttons on the Program Monitor, the zoomed timeline view does jump to the playhead position as expected.
    Also If I have the Program Monitor selected instead of the timeline, the hot keys for the "GoTo' functions work as expected and the zoomed timeline view does jump to the playhead.
    It appears that with the timeline selected, a hot key command to "Go To' in or out does not scroll the timeline view as in PPro2.
    Am I missing something?

    It appears that with the timeline selected, a hot key command to "Go To' in or out does not scroll the timeline view as in PPro2.
    Sad, but true. I've taken to slapping the Space Bar twice to get the zoomed-in timeline view to move to general vicinity of the outpoint, after using the Go To Outpoint key command. Very annoying. It is a bug, I would say, so be sure to file a bug report. Not likely we'll see another update for CS4, but perhaps they'll see fit to rectify the problem for CS5 (or 6...).

    The description is in the title: Premiere Pro CC Crashing when Scrolling Through Sequence in Timeline - Audio Waveform Goes Blank First.
    Just started today, won't stop crashing now after a minute or two, and always does it when I scroll through the timeline of a sequence.  The audio waveform goes blank first.

  • Is there a keyboard shortcut to move the handle of the timeline window to scroll it forward and backward......?

    I want to use keys to control the part of the timeline that I want to see by scrolling the timeline ahead and backwards.....exactly what we do with that handle at the bottom of the timeline......

    I don't know a keyboard combination to scroll the timelime left or right, but you can easily do it, either
    using the trackpad (two finger drag), the magic mouse (1 finger drag), orthe "Hand" tool. Press H to select it. Click and hold, and drag.

  • Scrolling a really wide picture (timeline)

    I am making a timeline. I have made it really long, the scene
    is in the middle, and I want to be able to scroll the timeline both
    directions, left and right. I have made to buttons, and have made a
    code that functions. But I believe I need a test that stops the
    process whenever the user release (let go of) the button. Now it
    seems like the process is working even when the button is released.
    It works fine when the user comes to the end of the timeline, then
    the process stops. But if the user let go of the button in the
    middle of the timeline, the process is running anyway.
    Here is the code ("frem" means forward, "tilbake" means
    backwards):
    stop();
    Frem_btn.onPress = function() {
    speed = 3;
    _root.Tallinjen_mc.onEnterFrame = function() {
    trace ("this._x er: " + this._x);
    if (this._x > -2180) {
    this._x -= _root.speed;
    else if (this._x < -2180){
    stop();
    Frem_btn.onRelease = function() {
    _root.speed = 0;
    Tilbake_btn.onPress = function() {
    speed = 3;
    _root.Tallinjen_mc.onEnterFrame = function() {
    if (this._x > -2180 && this._x < 3499) {
    this._x += _root.speed;
    Tilbake_btn.onRelease = function() {
    _root.speed = 0;
    stop();
    else if (this._x > 3500){
    stop();
    Tilbake_btn.onRelease = function() {
    _root.speed = 0;
    stop();
    }

    I deleted the onEnterFrame loop, and now the timeline scrolls
    just one step when I press the buttons. So if I want the timeline
    to move, I need to press again and again. But I want the timeline
    to scroll when the button is pressed. So I need some kind of a
    loop. But which one? It should probably test whether the mouse is
    pressed or not. Any suggestions?

  • Force timeline window to scroll with playhead?

    Is there a way to get Final Cut Pro 5 to scroll the timeline to follow the playhead during playback? It's disconcerting to have it go off the edge of the screen and not get a sense of where I am in the sequence until I pause playback.
    Thanks,
    Judd
    (Sorry if this has been asked, but Apple doesn't seem to want to let me search the archives today. Guess there are just too many iPhone users asking questions still...)

    A very simple trick is to move your mouse cursor over the scroll bar at the bottom of the timeline and use the wheel of the mouse to move right or left.
    I have Logitech mx1000 mouse and the wheel on it has the ability to inflect right or left actions as well as the wheel rotation. These right/left actions scroll the timeline as well (and the cursor doesn't have to be on the bar at the bottom).
    good luck.

  • Is there a way to expand the number of layers shown in a timeline?

    Hi,
    Right now it seems I can only get two layers to show in the timeline at any given time.  I don't see any way to resize the timeline so that when applying more grading layers, I can see all the layers at once without having to scroll the timeline view.  Is there a keyboard short-cut I'm missing, or some widget on-screen that can let me do this?
    Thanks,
    Jason

    Hi Patrick,
    I'm working on a 30" monitor, so it's effectively 2560x1600.  It only seems to be showing 2 tracks at a time, unless there is a preference or setting I'm missing that I can't seem to find in the documentation.  Here is a screenshot:
    I don't see any areas for expanding the timeline.  I can scroll vertically in the timeline, but I can't seem to actually get a larger static vertical area for showing more tracks at once.  The only vertical resizing widget is to expand the bottom or top panels, not the timeline.
    Thanks,
    Jason

  • How do I create a scrolling slideshow in iMovie?

    So I know how to make a basic slideshow in iMovie, but I'd like to create a "scrolling/sliding" slideshow (see link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXit8kxCCTg). That video uses videos, however, I'm using still pictures. The pictures can all just be side by side too, they don't have to stack like one on top of the other (I'll edit all my photos before hand to make them the same height). I'm using iMovie '11. I'll probably have 150-300 pictures all together. I'd also love to add a timeline to the bottom of the pictures to scroll with the pictures...should I just add that in to each individual picture before hand, and then put it all into iMovie, or can I do it all in iMovie? Also, towards the end of that youtube video, it all starts scrolling backwards....is there a way to do this???
    Basically, I'd like to create a scrolling picture timeline with continuous text scrolling across the bottom that I can also play in reverse. Is this even possible in iMovie? Any help with this would be GREATLY appreciated. This is time sensitive. I really need to know how to do this by Friday. THANKS!!!!!

    I agree with John that you could do this in Final Cut Pro X and Motion, but there is probably a plugin that you can purchase that would do the hard work in Motion for you.
    I think it might be technically possible to do this in Motion and export out in a file that iMovie can import, but in the video example, there is a lot more going on such as multicam syncing that would require Final Cut Pro X. Motion's strength is not to use it as a video editor. It is best used as a way to create a special effect that you can then use in a FCPX project.  (just my opinion)
    Here are some example of FCPX plugins. There are hundreds more.
