Scrolling over images in Word is choppy & lags on Mac, but not Windows

I have a large Word document with about 10-15 images that is about 50 pages long. When I scroll through the document, it lags in an extremely annoying way past the images and graphs; it is very choppy and almost freezes the program. I'd be willing to send admins a video of my screen showing what is happening.
I have 8 GB of RAM, I have a mid-2014 model MacBook Pro, and have no other windows open, and my machine is able to use multiple Adobe programs without flinching. It's not my computer but it IS how my computer/word is handling the document.
I opened this exact same document on a windows computer and it works perfectly well. I am able to scroll as I would on any website, and the content of the document does not affect my scrolling speed or display. Again, this proves that it is the functionality of the mac/program.
Beyond this issue, this document has crashed my Word multiple times when saving. Many other have reported the saving issue and also this scrolling lag issue. This is extremely frustrating and I would really appreciate if someone could let me know what the issue is and how to solve it.
I have tried the following fixes:
- Reinstalling Word
- Turning off transparency and increasing contrast
- Opened document with friend's Mac - issue persisted on their Mac as well.
- Copied information in a new document and saved it. Same problem persisted

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

  • Excessive lag in VI on Mac, but not Windows

I have created a VI that accepts user input to collect, save, and open voltage waveforms from a DAQmx board. It is a while loop and a state machine with a lot of information in it so I understand that efficiency might be an issue. This lag only exists, however, on a Mac, whether it is compiled into an application or run through LabVIEW. The VI on my Windows 8 machine has no issue handling 1000 samples, but when I run it on my MacBook, asking for 10 samples creates approximately a 20 second lag between data aquisition and data display, and a 30 second lag when asking for 100 samples, etc. This is the case for my Mac desktop as well. Could this be an issue with the way a Mac handles this information/memory, and are there any quick fixes to reduce this lag? Thank you for your input!

It would be helpful if we could see a bit o' code.

    Hello,
Please make sure that the next button is pinned to the right side as there in the attached image.
If it is already pinned, you can try removing any embedded HTML code and checking it.

  • Cut/Paste from Word to Illustrator CS3 for Mac suddenly not working

This issue regards Illustrator CS3 for Mac on a Mac Pro with 6 GB.
Exactly one week ago I created a number of Illustrator files by cutting charts from a Word 2008 document and pasting them into an Illustrator document.
In the past I have dragged the images (or clip art) or simply used Control-C or even Control-X, but by whatever method I opted for, getting the image from Word to Illustrator CS3 has not been a problem.
Yesterday I got a new chart and a request to replace an old image - one that I had created last week on Tuesday by the Drag/Drop or Cut/Paste method.   For reasons I can't begin to imagine the process simply won't work now.
I also find that if I simply select text in a Word Document, hit Ctrl-C and then try a Ctrl-V in Illustrator I don't get to see my text pasted in - ONLY if I already have a text block open and the cursor in place will I get to see the text copied over into Illustrator.  This is very strange and not at all how things have worked in the past - typically I would see the new Text Object just appear, and then I could move it to wherever I wanted.
I have opened up a number of old files that I know were created with copied text and also opened the associated Word files (earlier versions of Word) and again find that I can't copy text over, or even move images over - even though I clearly could do this before.  I have also tried entirely new files - also with no success.
I was at an Apple one-to-one session this morning and they were more than mystified by this.  I can Cut and Paste into Adobe Photoshop Elements, but I can't even cut and paste from Adobe Photoshop Elements into Illustrator CS3.   I can drag the Photoshop file (from the Finder window) into the Illustrator document and poof - get my image that way, but it's as an image only.  If the base image in question is a vector image or something else having a plurality of elements, I can't then select the elements in Illustrator to change their color, delete them, or otherwise play with them.
I have brought up a word document on another Mac system that also has Illustrator CS3 and find that it too can't drag/drop cut/paste between the two applications.   At Apple, we did confirm that such ability is operational in the new Illustrator CS4, but none of their store systems still have CS3 to provide yet a third system to test.
I have deleted my Illustrator CS3 preferences, tried flushing the p-ram, and of course run fix and repair permissions - no dice.
My Mac systems update daily and there is nothing in the main update log that shows anything for Adobe or Office (nor do I think there should be).  Adobe Update reports that everything is up to date, and I don't see a history file to know what might have changed in the last week.   Office also reports fully up to date and happy.
As I can cut and paste the images into an email for Mail and into Photoshop, I am fairly certain that it is NOT a Microsoft Office 2008 issue.  The fact that another Mac with Illustrator CS3 also can't cut and paste suggests that is is really not something personal to my main system.
It is almost as if this is some clandestine "update" intended to encourage me to buy Illustrator CS4.  Given that I bought Illustrator CS3 less than a year ago, I really am not eager to buy the new version.   The greeting on the Adobe Support page that CS3 is no longer the current version and therefore supported was most annoying.
I am really hoping that someone out there has an idea of what to try changing, removing and/or adjusting with respect to Adobe Illustrator CS3.

I tried the Select by Path option - can't believe I missed it - and found it made no difference.
I actually uninstalled and reinstalled the whole app.  When I tried to simply re-install (can't remember it's exact phrase) it got part way through and then demanded another disk - but I only have one DVD with the application - the extra DVD is for tutorials and it didn't accept that one either.  So I restarted that process and chose to completely uninstall.  Then reinstalled - hey with only my one disk - gee, just like the first time.   And then it seemed to work.
I was not aware of the save as PDF option - but yes I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 for Mac so that option is there - and it seems to work too.
There were of course a slue of updates, and I let them all proceed - but even with them all in place the system is fine and I can once again drag and drop / cut and paste things back and forth.   I just tried a text block and "The Quick Brown Fox" pasted in with a clipping mask about 10 times the size of the document, but other than that it was ok.
So I have things working again on my primary system.   Will try and figure out what's wrong with the other one - but a reinstall might be the easiest game there too.

  • Facetime Choppy on iPad 2 but not iPhone 4

My parents have been using their iPhone 4 to do Facetime with me both on my iMac and iPad 2 with no problems.  I bought them an iPad 2 so that they would have a larger display for Facetime.  Unfortunately, the video/audio is choppy on their iPad 2 but not on their iPhone 4.  Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot the problem?  I would think it's related to the router or their ISP's bandwidth, but their iPhone 4 works perfectly fine (e.g. no lag/choppiness).
    Thanks...

the ipad wifi unit is not that strong, and the camera is less than a meg.
Tell them to stand next to the router and turn on all light in the room, it should help alittle, but you never going to get the same quality as the iphone

  • Images links (jpegs) that show on Macs but not PC?

    Okay, I'm curious!
Help me out here if you can...
I update images on a company website using a Mac.
After updating, all testing on my end shows the image as it should.
I have a co-worker test on there Mac and it's fine on their computer.
But, when another co-worker on a PC checks to view same page...
The image is NOT visible just the box with the X and the images tags.
The inserted image is a jpeg with no spaces in the title, should work...
Any ideas out there as to why an image (jpeg) shows on Mac and not PC?
    Thanks,
    Star*

Only two possibilities I can think of:
    1) an image path problem - img src= is pointing to the wrong folder or directory on server.
    2) an unsupported image type.  Most browsers can't render CMYK images.  When you saved image, did you save it for the web as a progressive jpg in RGB mode?
If none of the above, post a URL to the page so we can see it, please.

  • Mp_statusreceiver directory over 50GB - MP has been removed from this server, but not completely?

I had a server run out of disk space today.  Digging in, the ccm mp_statusreceiver directory had 650,000 files in it, over 50GB in size.  From what I understand, I think that folder is queuing up messages to go from a management point to the primary
server, but the server in question had it's management point removed a couple of weeks ago.  It seems like it's still gathering data to send, but not sending it to the primary server, and filling up the drive.
If that's the case, then it seems the management point didn't actually get removed from the server, even though it's no longer listed in the config manager console as a management point.  (The server still has a DP on it.)
How can I clean up whatever remnants of the MP are installed on this server?

    Hi,
Yes, you need a path for mp.msi. I saw that is located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\bin\X64.

  • Scroll function in MS Word, version 2011 Office for Mac

Updated to OS X Yosemite, and the ability to scroll line by line thru the document is no longer working.  I can move thru the document using the sliding bar on the side, but difficult to get to when more than one file is open.  Have tried closing program, shutting down and reboot, searched help, checked many different documents, also created new document - cannot find a way to turn this option back on. Is there one?

thank you all for your replies.  this sounds like the community threads i saw about Outlook and Maverick earlier this year and last year.  Some folks loved it---no problems--while others hate the upgrade with Outlook because it's major time killing problem city.  I'm guessing there are variables at play here---like what your hardware is (macbook, imac, macair) and the year of your hardware.  And knowing MSFT, i'm guessing that there are variables there too (DVD, online office 365 subscription, and which year the software for either was created.  i have been down this road before with Apple and MSFT---two different tribes that do their best not to get along as much as they should.
we really need forensics on everyone's hardware, software, year of each, and source of software (DVD or online) before we could spot a pattern as to what works and what is going to be a problem.  It would have to be this community that solves it because i know from experience MSFT won't be much help…..and even Apple's support folks do not like trying to solve problems involving MSFT software.
so net net---please post another round letting us know your hardware and year, and your Office for Mac 2011 software version and year. also, if you do solve a problem, please let us know too.  thanks everyone

  • NEF images loaded on iMAC into PSCC are distorted, but not on Preview or second iMAC or MacBook Air

NEF images loaded onto one IMAC into PSCC are distorted but show normally in Preview.   Same NEF on second iMAC and MacBook Air are not distorted.   Questions
    1.     Is there a setting in PSCC that needs to be tweaked
    2.   Is the PSCC loaded on the iMAC corrupted or need repair?   How does one determine which and how to fix?
    Thanks

You have some lens correction enabled or a graphics hardware acceleration issue. nothing that a reinstall would fix. Since you haven't provided any relevant exact technical info, nobody can say more.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • Illustrator CS4 lags on Intel Mac but not PowerPC

From what I can tell the lag only occurs when selecting an object in a project. Once I select any object there is about a 5 second delay where the beachball will spin until finally the object is selected. Also, about 50% of the time the selected object will jump across the screen after it is selected. It happens in any file, new or old, and with any size file from very complex to new documents with just one line in it. There are zero problems on my old PowerPC G5 tower but any time I use Illustrator on either my old MacBook with a Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz or my brand new MacBook Pro i7 2.3 Ghz it happens. I have found that using a selection box eleminates the problem but the fact remains there is a problem that needs to be resolved. It makes Illustrator almost unusable - any help would be VERY appreciated.
    Thanks for the time.

So I ended up formatting the hard drive and reinstalling OS X and all CS 4. This fixed the lag problems I had for about a week, then suddenly today I created a new document, threw a few lines in and BAM! The same thing started happening again - every file, new or old is lagging again. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!
EDIT: Here's a video of what is happening. Note, after selecting the line you can see the blue endpoints of the line but it takes several seconds for the selection box to appear around the line. The beachball is also not showing up in the screencast.

  • Using Kodak AiO 5500 over Airport Express- works on my Mac, but not on PC

The subject says it all, folks. Just got a new Airport Express 802.11n and hooked up both printers (Samsung ML-1740 and Kodak AiO 5500) with a powered USB hub. Both printers are visible in Airport Utility (and Bonjour Printer Services in Windows).
I'm running OS 10.6.3 on a MacBook Pro, 15" 2.4GHz Core2Duo system. On this system I can use both the Kodak and Samsung, no problem. But then on both of my parents' PCs only the Samsung printer works, although I can see both using Airport Utility and Bonjour Printer Service.
What the heck is going on??
    Thanks in advance!

I would perform the following steps for testing:
    1. Disconnect the Samsung printer, so that just the Kodak printer is connected.
    2. Disable the firewall at the Windows machine (the Windows one and all third party)
    If that's successfull, you can
    3. Re-enable the firewall and you probably need to allow traffic on port 9100 (not 100% sure about the exact port)
    4. Re-connect the Samsung printer

This drive is shared and opens in IE but Firefox gives msg
Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (p) isn't associated with any program.
