Scrolling text vertically, offsetting from dead center

I'm trying to create an effect like what is shown on this page:
http://www.tooltabs.net/
If you scroll down past the first title block you'll see a lot of phrases set in a vertical fashion.
I have the start of what I'm trying to do, but the only option I can see is "center" "left" and "right".
Is there a way to offset the center setting to create the effect shown on my link?
Thanks!

Hi -
I am not sure I completely understand your question, but if you are asking how to get additional horizontal position control over a scroll that you have typed, edit the scroll to the timeline. Double click on the scroll clip on the timeline, and in the viewer, click on the Motion tab. Open the Basic Motion pane, and enter a positive or negative number that represents the distance (in pixels) you want to offset the scroll from center - in the first box next to the word Center. This will reposition horizontally the clip.
An easier way to do this is to make sure Image and Wireframe is turned on in the canvas. Then click on the scroll clip in the timeline and a wireframe "X" will appear in the canvas. You can then click on the image in the canvas and reposition it by holding down the mouse button and dragging it to where you want to place it. To restrict the axis so that it is only moving on the horizontal or vertical axis, hold down the shift key while dragging.
Hope this helps.

  • Can i change the colour of my scrolling texts from FCPX

i have a scrolling texts created at the end of my video clips in FCPX.
in this credit scrolling texts, i want to show the names of singers and their songs.
I also want to display them in different colour.
    SINGERS          white colour
    SONGS             red
i highlight the songs' names and changed to red
but what happen in FCP is all the texts after the one i highlighted become red.
just wonder if i want to do such thing.
    Do I need Motion5?
Also FCPX seems not able to let me enter any RGB vales.
Can Motion let me do that?
    Thanks.

    hI gfxzen,
    i finally did it.
i needed to double click my title texts in VIEWER to change colour to particular texts.
this's a good new to me.
i know this's not a FCP forum, i posted a question there and post the same question here. I thought maybe i can only do this in Motion.
now i know i can do it. It seems to me I can only do it if i double click my title texts in VIEWER.
i'm still not able to do what i want in TEXT inspector. i can change the colour but this always ends up changing colour for all the texts.
if you don't mind, i have few more questions:
after i double click the text in the VIEWER, a bounding box appears. i can do anything within the text box.
how can i get rid of the bounding box after i've done my edit. i always click on the inspector button to close off anything.
now i can change the colour, can FCPX let me enter any RBG valves.
I can pick a colour in the colour panel, it seems i can't enter any particular vales i want.
don't know if you know the answer or not.
if you do, can you let me know? thanks.

  • Scrolling text from motion too fast in fcp

    Help!
I tried using motion 4 for scrolling text but it scrolls too fast... it scrolls perfect speed in motion  but when I open it up in fcp 7.0 it goes faster.
my sequence settings match for fcp and motion 4.
I have tried auto, custom and fixed .
I have played with scroll rate mulitplier
I have shortened and lengthened the timeline
I have gone to some video's on setting this up i.e. vtc.com/products/AppleMotion4/Text/90443 and other videos... nothing I do seems to slow it down,.
    Thank you for your assistance

  • How to align text vertically?

This seems like it should be really easy: On a simple text slide, how do I align multiple lines of text vertically? Do I have to eyeball it, or is there a way to fix it exactly in the center, top to bottom?

    Hi -
There is no automatic way, but there is a way to make it slightly easier.
After you enter your text, grab the clip of type and move it to a portion of the timeline where there are no other clips.
In the Canvas click on the button on the top right and select Checkerboard:
    !http:/www.spotsbeforeyoureyes.com/CanvasCheckerboardBG.jpg!
This will make the background a checkerboard so you can count the squares to verify the top and bottom line are equidistant from the TV Safe Guidelines:
When you are done positioning the type, grab the clip and place it above the clip you originally wanted it to appear over.
You can either leave the Canvas set to display a checkerboard when there is no video present, or switch it back to Black.
    Hope this helps.

  • Aligning text vertically

I know how to center text horizontally within the text box in CS5 Extended (just click the same "center" icon you would click if you were using Microsoft Word or any other program), but how can I center it vertically (have it placed equidistant from the top and bottom of the text box)?  I know there must be a way.
    Thanks!

I think the question has to do with text arranged vertically, rather than text that is centered on a vertical line dividing the cell.
The example in column A is available in cells in Pages Tables. But of a kludge, though, as its achieved by inserting a return (option-return if you're typing it in the cell) after each character in the string.
The example in column B is made by entering the text into a text box, then rotating the box using the Metrics Inspector, aand placing it in front of the cell where it is to appear.
The example in column C has been horizontally centered in the cell using the alignment button on the format bar. There is also an alignment button in that bar to center the text vertically in the cell, but I hadn't used it before capturing the screen shot. This text also has an option return inserted after each of the first two words.

    Barry

  • Centering text vertically in text box

When you open a text box how do you center the text in the middle from top to bottom(vertically), not left to right. The text starts immediately in the top left corner. I need it in the center of a predefined text box size, so that if you drew a line across the center of the box from left to right, the top half of the letters  would be above the line and the bottom half would be below the center line. In other words there should be the same distance above the words to the top edge of the text box, as to the bottom of the text box, from the center.

Thanks for the reply. Let me start by saying I am definitely a newbie with Photoshop. So if you could explain what I should do in PS that would help. I'm using CS6 Extended. I really don't know the difference between Paragraph text and Point text, and not sure what you mean when you ask is this for an Action.
I selected the "T" Horizontal type tool, and drew a box. Then I started typing. It looks like my selections are left align, center align, and right align. But it does not Center it in the middle of the box. The text is still at the top of the box. I have to have the box a certain size because of the project I'm working on. I'm assuming the text I'm selecting is what you are calling Paragraph Text. How do you use Point Text.
It's basically the spine on a book cover. You place the Title and the Authors name there, but you have to make sure it fits within the spine width, and is centered in that area. Like if you were looking at the side of a book, the title/author should be centered along that spine from top to bottom.
    Thanks!

  • XML and scrolling text

    Hi,
My flash movie contains a text field and a scrollbar, when i
simply write the text in the text field and then publish the movie
the scrollbar works fine. However i need to read in the text
through XML but when i do this the scrollbar does not work. Is
there code that i need to implement to make the scrollbar
    automatically scroll....
    All help is appreciated,
    Thanks

    Okay found this:
    [Dynamic Text Box Name].autoSize = "center";
    [Dynamic Text Box Name].wordWrap = true;
however, the height really doesn't adjust when the copy does.
    If I start
off with the dynamic text box at 50 pixels high, it remains
    that way
when calculated in ActionScript using the [MovieClip]._height
    even
though it is much taller than 50 pixels with the copy in
    there.
So I'm back to the drawing board. I want to have an XML file
    with
Headline, BodyCopy, and disclaimer copy. I want to call the
    nodes into
    Flash and stylize them.
I DO NOT want to use CSS since I am using funky fonts that
    will not be
available on all machines. Want those fonts embedded in Flash
    so it
shows the same on any computer.

  • Scrolling Text horizontally (Ticker)

Hello, I would like to develop a scrolling ticker which scrolls text horizontally from right to left. I also want it to be scrollable (i.e. while the text is scrolling I would like to be able to scroll to the beginning or end of the scrolling text using the horizontal scrollbar, to view the history of trades etc.)
The scrolling text could be up to 6 lines each like this

A JTable with a a custom model would probably be best,
but take a look at this using a JScrollPane over a
JPanel that JLabels get added to every time a new
    "tick" comes in.
Obviously there are many problems with using this in

  • Scrolling text is jumpy/pulsing when compressed

I'm making end credits using the scroll up text animation behavior in Motion 2.1.2. Whenever I compress it for DVD Studio Pro and insert it the text looks terrible. It is pulsing in and out and is hardly readable. I found a few other people who have had this problem, but no solutions that have helped.
I have done credits using the scrolling text in Final Cut without much problem, but for this project I need motion in order to use text of different sizes.
    Here are my specs:
Project Properties - NTSC DV; 720x480; Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC D1/DV - 0.90; Field Order: Lower First (Even); Frame Rate: 29.97; Background color is black (0%)
Render Settings - Motion Blur Samples: 8; Shutter Angle: 360; Output Antialiasing Method: Best
I used Export using Compressor: DVD Best Quality 90 minutes 4:3; I tried using the Color+Alpha and just Color in the Output options. Premultiply alpha and Use field render are both checked. Use motion blur is not checked.
Most of the text is Geneva Regular 14 pt font. I have tried completely white as well as setting the RGB sliders all at 235 with no difference. I also tried using a black outline with no difference. The scroll up behavior has a rate of 52.
Please help! It took me forever to put these credits together and I don't want to start from scratch with another program. Making the text bigger helps a little bit but I would really like to keep it the same size for timing and format sake. However, I can't keep it like this because it looks terrible both on an Apple Cinema display and on a tv after burned to DVD.
    Thanks!

My first guess would be the font itself. Geneva is a pretty thin font and it's not likely to look good interlaced and on a TV. Can you try a thicker font?
I'd also turn off Field Rendering. It looked much worse with it on than off. Keep Frame Blending though.

  • How do I get text to flow from one page to the next in Pages 5?

How do I get text to flow from one page to the next in Pages 5 with the Maverick system?

What may be overlooked in Pages v5 is the notion of combining Text Boxes via the Menu > View > Show Arrange Tools. When you select two Text Boxes, an extra panel unfolds at the bottom of the Arrange Tools window. Uncheck one Text Box and this panel abruptly disappears.
One can achieve text flow effects between Text Boxes differently based on how one positions the Text Box overlap, and choice of effect above. Though not the accustomed flow found in Pages ’09 v4.3, flow does occur. Consider the possibilities of combining a Shape and a Text box to cut an irregular Text box.
If I create two Text Boxes and position them side by side with outline touching and choose Unite, this creates one larger Text Box and text flows across and down. On the otherhand, if I overlap the upper left corner of a lower Text Box over one above and to the left, then choose Union, pasted text fills the first Text Box and then flows across and down into the other box. Here is a Union example:
Intersect will leave a small Text Box where the two overlap, so not much value there. Subtract will cut a chunk out of one Text Box that is the size of the overlapping piece of the second Text Box:
And Intersect will leave an island in the center where the two Text Box overlap, with flow jumping over this bridge.
Clearly, this is not what we were accustomed to in the past, but with imagination, style, and layout tuning, it does offer alternative Text Box creativity and layout. Of course, there is the option of simply returning to the previous Pages version for true Text Box linking that most will want to use.
