Scrolling to view image attachments!

I just upgraded to Tiger, and noticed that in Mail when I get an email with an image attachment, I have to scroll up, down, left or right to view the entire thing.
If I remember correctly, in Panther it would scale the image to fit in the window. This is very annoying being that I must view images sent in emails all day long! Please help! Thanks.
G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9) Mail

Hi Mike,
Welcome to the Discussions.
The scaling of images that are true attachments works the same in Tiger (Mail 2.x) as it did in Panther (Mail 1.3.x). There may be differences where images in the emails you receive are embedded in HTML. These are the only images I have seen behave to not scale.
To check for the presence of HTML, open one of these messages, click on View in the Menubar, place the cursor on Message and choose Raw Source. This will show you how much HTML is present.
Also, do these messages have the Slideshow button showing in the last line of the Headers?
More info, please.

Apple Mail isn't going to change the format of any of your attachments. it isn't going to corrupt them either.
Exchange is a transport protocol and server. The issue you describe is not related to Exchange.
There are many different versions of Microsoft Outlook in use and they all have e-mail bugs. Different versions have different bugs. Some Apple Mail hack to get around a bug in Outlook 2003 may cause the same message to be problematic in Outlook 2000. Fix them both and another issue will cause trouble in Outlook 2007. You can't fix this. Apple can't fix this. Microsoft can and has but that is irrelevant if your recipients are using older versions.
One specific problem is that Apple Mail always sends image attachments inline, as images, not as iconized files. You can change this with Attachment Tamer. Just be aware that use of this software will break other things such as Stationery. E-mail is just a disaster. To date, no one outside of Apple has ever implemented the e-mail standards from 1993. Apple has continually changed its e-mail software to be more compatible with the de-facto standards that Netscape and Microsoft have unilaterally defined and people documented as "standards" after the fact. The e-mail messages that Apple Mail sends are 100% correct and do not violate any of the original standards from 1993 or the Microsoft/Netscape modifications. The problem is entirely bugs and limitations in various versions of Outlook.

• What do I do to view images on CS5-64 when it will not open them?

The program will not open images, either directly or from Bridge. Using Win 7 on a Dell PC.

Strange, after rebooting, both Ph CS5 and Bridge are working again. Thanks for getting with me.

• Disable inline viewing of attachments in Mavericks mail

Dear all
In previous version of the OS, there was an easy terminal fix to disable inline viewing of attachments in mail. Instead of bulky and cumbersome images and PDFs, I used to get nice, neat icons.
This terminal fix doesn't seem to work in Mavericks.
Online sources tell me to buy a separate app called Attachment Tamer to fix this.
Just wanted to find out whether there is a way to do this without additional software.
Thanks in advance
Best regards
Zam

Sorry, that page is a description of the basic functionality that is supposed to work in Mavericks, but is entirely failing to work for me. I tried calling Apple Support on the phone, and went through many attempted fixes with the experts, but they eventually threw up their hands in despair.

• Image attachments sent from Cameraroll are displayed inline/embedded - why?

Dear community!
I often send pictures from the camera-roll by email to several email-addresses.
I would like the recipient to recieve the email with the images as attachments, but now, they are displayed as "inline" / "embedded" images in the mail body, instead of file attachments. Some of my recievers are using a CMS system to handle inbound email, and in these cases, when the images are embedded, they will not recieve the attachments correctly in their system.
Is there any settings to toggle this ?
Best regards,
Daniel

As with the Mail app on a Mac, the iOS Mail app displays all image attachments as inline or viewed in place, which is not the same as embedded. Photos are sent as true attachments to the email.
Depending on the recipient's email client, a photo attached to an email will appear inline or viewed in place (as with the Mail app on a Mac or with the iOS Mail app), or as an attached file only which must be opened separately to be viewed, which the sending email client has no control over.
When I receive a photo attachment sent by Outlook that appears as an attached file only with the sent email in Outlook, the photo appears inline or viewed in place within the body of the email with the Mail app on my Mac and with the iOS Mail app with my iPhone and iPad, which Outlook has no control over.
You cannot change how an attached photo or image appears in the message body with the iOS Mail app, and an attached photo or image that appears inline or viewed in place is not the same as embedded. The iOS Mail app does not support composing in HTML, which is required to embed an image.

• Mail not allowing image attachments

I have a client who was on 10.2.8 using Mail. All of a sudden (no change made to the machine) Mail started saying that attachments that were images were being downloaded, but not able to be seen in the email (the attachments list it as being there but you can not access it.)
The same thing is evident with a new user account as well.
I eventually decided to do an archive & install of 10.3.5 (not preserving users or network settings). I dropped his Mail folder back in and tested it - same problem. I did an update to Quicktime 7 (7.04) and he could recieve image attachments from himself, and from PC users - just not from Mac users!
It looks like something is changing the content-type of the image attachments. Here is the (abreviated version of the email - i cut out the image source) source for the email:

Aaron,
Let me recap:
The problem with any image attachment is seen in the client's Mac and Mail program, regardless of the Incoming Server? You proved this by setting your account up, using Mail operating on his Mac, and image attachments were prevented?
Did you examine the messages in Raw Source view, by any chance? If so, did you see any of the expected attachment headers within the body?
Is the message consistent for containing the attachment?
Although not known to me, for this problem, the thought of font issues come to mind, but I think the Raw Source view would let you get around that. Perhaps it would be worthwhile to examine and confirm all fonts. See:

• Viewing images in Finder

I am a new to Macs after years on PCs. My question concerns viewing images in the Finder. In Windows XP you can open a folder of images and the number of thumbnails in the column automatically adjusts to fit the width of the window. Now you can scroll up and down to view what is in the folder.
On my Mac, when I open a folder of images in the finder I have to scroll side to side as well as up and down to see the thumbnails. Is there anyway to set the view so it adjusts itself automatically? I know I can use the slider to adjust the size of the icons to fit, but this seems like another needless step to take.

• Problem with scrolling after rotating image

Hi,
I am trying to write a simple image viewer in flex. I came
across a problem which I've been trying to solve through the past 4
days. In my example I want to rotate the image and then scroll
around once its been rotated (Say after the user would zoom in). If
I rotate the image by 90,180 or 270 deg and then move the scroll
bars the image disappears. Has anyone else had this problem? Any
suggestions welcome, thanks!

rotate.end();
angle += 90;
rotate.play();

</mx:Script>
</mx:Application>

Thanks for a quick response. I did something simillar before
(using the Canvas instead of the VBox) your suggestions fix the
scrolling issue but it still does not work the way it should. If
the rotation is 0 then the scroll bars "fit" the image (So you
don't go out and see any white space). If the rotation is say 90
than it doesn't allow the image at full height, little bit of the
page and no scroll bar to move down, also it gives you a lot of
room to move to the side event though you can already see the image
at full width. It's event worse when you do 180 deg rotation. Do
you think this is something that is achievable (to have scroll bars
that fit the image regardles of the rotation) ? Thanks

• How can I scroll around an image if its zoomed out?

Hey guys, quick one for you.
I have no problem using the hand tool/spacebar to scroll around an image when zoomed into it, but as soon as I can see the whole thing I can't scroll around anymore and its just locked to the center
I am a After Effects user so I find this a bit annoying that I can't do this, so I figure there MUST be a setting somewhere I could change to enable it.
Thanks!

by Buko wrote:
Sorry but "How can I scroll around an image if its zoomed out?" has got to be one of the stupidest question I've heard on this forum in some time. Brandon really needs to think before posting.
I've noticed your usual vitriol toward people having simple questions has ramped up about 200% since the advent of Jive, Buko. Maybe you need to disengage, or neck some holy fermented blue agave juice and take a nap?
I see the question as perfectly cromulent, and I use the suggestion I've given quite often. Apparently, a good reason why anyone would want to do that has escaped you, and it's made you even crankier than usual. So you react by giving the gift of vile condescension instead of just ShuttingTFU and letting someone else handle it. (Next time you blast Ramon for the same thing, take a look at your own behavior). And apparently, it's not enough for you to just accept that the way someone else wants to work is different than your workdflow, or is something that never even occurred to you. Maybe some folks just want an answer to their question, and secretly wish you'd shove your bad attitude up your [asterisk-substituted name for your lower-dorsal body opening]. Of course, some folks are just too polite, or they're new visitors here and won't say that to you because they don't know the legacy players and behaviors here. But I'm not either of those things, and I will. Because if you can dish it out, surely you can take it, right? RIGHT!?!?
Now...why do I think the question is worth answering? Sometimes I want to be able to have an entire smallish image visible at 100% magnification in order to view it as it will appear in its final destination. AND I want to do some work on it while keeping all my currently-open Palettes visible; maybe I want to move my image out of the way of a big dialogue box I've called up. (I'm only working on one monitor...sorry if that makes your hardened jaw drop down to your chest).
In Single-Window made mode I'd have to grab and move the whole window, but I can't do that if I have a big dialogue window open. In full screen mode I can scroll around and see all parts of that image at 100% without having to Tab my palettes to their hidden state, or shove my open dialogue nearly off-screen.
Think past your own nose, Dude! And LightenTFUp!

• Not able to view images in gallery, when they are ...

Hi,
The file explorer was showing two default images folder and I was unable to delete one of them as I was unable to view images via gallery. Then i installed X-plore and deleted one of the images folder. Now, when I click images and select memory card as storage space, I cannot view them via gallery and view them only via X-plore. Please suggest how can I correct this issue.

Maybe I am stupid but if you delete the imagefolder, it will be gone. You can set your default imagefolder: goto Media-> Camera-> Settings-> Use Memory-> Card. You can also backup your card to PC, reformat the card in your phone, because it makes default maps for images, video, audio,.........and then copy your images back to the specific folder.

• Firefox saves images to wrong location, but only when using "View Image"

For a while, I have had the problem above. I can save images just fine if I don't use the "view image" function first, with the images going to the intended folders.
Just to clarify, unlike some of similar problems I have seen described here, I am perfectly happy with Firefox remembering where I wish my pictures to go, on a site to site, or model to model (within the same site) basis.
The problem lies in that if I use the "view image" function, either in a new tab, or in the existing one, Firefox will often prompt me to save in a random folder where I have previously saved a picture. It will even suggest folders that I have not accessed for days.
Example:
I save image A to folder A, by right clicking the image and selecting "save image as".
I then (immediately after this), right click image A again, select "view image", then right click the resulting picture, and select "save image as". Now there is a fine chance that it want me to save the image to some other (previously used) image folder, even if I have not used the folder for a while, and even though I have just saved the same image to folder A.
This problem persists with multiple image file types, on multiple sites (I just tried it with someones avatar in this forum, and it wanted me to put it with my holiday pictures from 3 weeks ago).
I appreciate any assistance you can give - jinxie
FYI; If I "one-click" a file (like an mp4) to download it, it goes to my main / default download folder as normal.

This is because Firefox will track where you have saved images or other files from the website domain. Then whenever you select to save the file to your computer, Firefox will start the Save As wizard in the latest folder that you have used last time.
Here is an example:
If you save an image from the domain
123.com
into the folder
123
it will save there. Then you save an image from the domain
456.com
to the folder
456
. Next you save a different image from the domain
123.com
. The save as wizard will assume that you want to save it with the other image from that domain and will automatically start in the
123
folder.
This can make saving files faster and more organized, however not everyone wants this feature enabled.
To disable this feature you can do the following:
#Go to
about:config
in Firefox
#Locate the
browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite
string
#Change the value to
false

This should fix the issue, but please report back if it doesn't.
