Scrub3.exe - IBM Secure Data Disposal Utility - Problem
D10 6493 Problem
I have a refurbished D10 6493, upon boot up get the following message:
IBM Secure Data Disposal Util 2.0
Remote Deployment Mgr 4.1
Command Code Executed
C:\Dos7|Scrub3.exe /d=all /1=2
Return Code = 0
I changed the boot sequence to CD and tried to load Win7 OS but to no avail. End up with the following message.
What changes should I make to the BIOS so I can install my OS.
Ted
What does your startup sequence look like? Assuming you're trying to install the OS from optical, you should have the optical in front of the HDD in the startup sequence, and you might have to hit a key right after POST in order to boot the system to the DVD.
That message you're seeing looks like it might be a log from the secure erase utility. That's a utility usually used to wipe media. I'm guessing this is displaying because your system is booting to a blank (but formatted) HDD that's been scrubbed already.

Airport Extreme Utility problem with Vista (works with XP, MacOS)
Hi,
I just setup a new Airport Extreme network at my house, and most things are working fine. I have wirelessly connected at various points an Airport Express (using WDS), a MacBook Pro (OSX) and an IBM Thinkpad. I have several wired machines as well.
My problem: The wired machine I use to configure and setup everything is a Vista Ultimate machine. Unfortunately, the Airport Utility won't connect to the Airport Extreme (or Airport Express for that matter) from Vista. The utility works fine from XP or OSX, but not from Vista. Note that I'm using this in a wired capacity. The Vista machine is directly connected to the Airport Extreme, while several other machine are connected through a GBit switch.
Any help would be much appreciated? Is this a Vista security problem or an Airport Utility problem with Vista? It's most likely a security issue with Windows Vista. Vista has the ability to set "compatibility modes" for applications.
Try:
1. right mouse clicking the Airport Utility's .exe file.
2. Click the Compatibility tab. Change the Compatibility mode to Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
3. Now go down to "Privilage Level" and check the "Run this program as an administrator"
Apple never tells you this but you must connect to the Airport Extreme wirelessly. Now run the Airport Utility. You should see it. -
I've been given the unenviable task of troubleshooting and installing/distributing software written by a former co-worker. I've modified the LabVIEW code and built an .exe file. I've successfully installed the Labview .exe file on several computers, but it won't work on some others. What's more baffling is that I installed it successfully on one computer, uninstalled it, and tried reinstalling it with no success. In fact, it's a new error (Dr. Watson for Windows NT application error). It doesn't help that I have different versions of LabVIEW and Matlab on the target computers. Some have LabVIEW 5.1, some
have 5.0, and some don't have it at all. Some have Matlab 5.2, some have 5.3 (R11) and some have 6.0 (R12). It's also not clear to me where the Matlab m files should be located. I'm not sure if it's a LabVIEW Runtime Engine problem, or if it's a Matlab problem. I've also wondered how LabVIEW and Matlab talk to each other. When LabVIEW calls Matlab, it seems that Matlab is running in the background. In other words, clicking on the Matlab Command Window and typing "whos" or any other command/variable doesn't work.Jay del Rosario wrote:

Erasing Securely in Disk Utility
Erasing Securely in Disk Utility
I wish I could send this directly to the Apple software engineer in charge of Disk Utility, but maybe there is someone on this Forum who is technically very savvy and would stake their reputation on their answer.
I would bet thousands have had this same question cross their mind...
I'm trying to understand the process regarding erasing a hard disk using Disk Utility.
For this example, use a 300 GB hard drive that has the following:
150 GB of readable files
100 GB of files that were sent to the trash and emptied (but not "secure empty trash"… so just their directory info was erased when trashed)
50 GB of never used free space
I'm confused by the wording in the Disk Utility's erase options.
One of the choices is Zero Out Free Space.
Does that mean it only writes zeroes over the 50GB of never used space?
Or does it write zeroes over the 50GB AND the 100GB spaces?
Another confusing choice is Zero Out Data
Does that mean it only writes zeroes over the 150GB of readable data?
Or does it write zeroes over the 150GB AND the 100GB of unreadable data ?
If the latter is true, then the sequence probably should be
erase free space (unless it ONLY writes zeroes to never used space)
then choose
zero out data (assuming it also zeroes the unreadable data too)
Thanks for any helpPerhps I did not make myself clear (or you misread a verb or two).
I did read your link, but it does not clarify the technical design of this software.
The Erase button lets you "Zero Out All Data", but data to me is a file (whether or not it is readable in the directory of not). Whereas Free Space can be either virgin territory or trashed files with the directory info stripped clean. So why do you say that Zero Out All Data would include virgin disk space when there was never data there ?
Also if Erase>Zero Out All Data "writes zeroes to every byte on the drive", and projects an erase time of 13 hours, then why does it estimate 2 days 9 hours when I choose Erase Free Space>Zero Out Deleted Files? (Which further confuses the reader with this Apple description: It writes zeroes over the UNUSED space in the disk.) (My capitalization for emphasis). Yes, parts of it are CURRENTLY not being recognized, but it IS filled with data (as opposed to the virgin space being filled with no data).
So you can see why I am confused.
And though you may be right, I alwatys ask. "Would you bet your child's or your mother's life on your answer?"
That's why I left it an Open question for the moment ... hoping to also snag an Apple Moderator.
Thank you for your help though. -

Securing data from dba access , like Credit Card Details
Hello ,
is there any way of hiding CC details from all users in db level except specifc users
enrypting cc data like oracle hashed passwords
for ex,
case (1)
user 1 ( has access to these details )
select acc#,customer_name from cc_details
output : it will show all the details decrypted
case (2)
user 2 : ( doesnt have access )
select acc#,customer_name from cc_details
output : it will show all the details encrypted
both in db level , like using sqlplus or toad
any idea!

In reg's to reading data from datafile, that's where TDE comes into the picture; then no-one can read from data file directly.
There is no user who owns TDE; TDE is enabled on a database-wide level. So the >normal data owner (who is the only who should have full access to his own data with >DBVault) can use TDE to encrypt; no extra privileges needed.I’ve told about the user who is the owner of the database wallet (usually SYS). He can temporary disable encryption, takes the data, then restore encryption.
DBVault and TDE should be the perfect match for 'securing data from dba access , like >Credit Card Details'In other words we have yet another administrator (DV owner) instead of the good old SYS :)
And I have a question: in case the protection with DV of some tables was made from the SYS, can he make (in example) full backup or full export of the data (his ordinary administrative tasks)? If yes, then it isn't protection, if no, then...what?
The solution is somewhere else, I think -

HFM audit data export utility availability in version 11
Hi Experts,
We have a client who has a HFM environment where the audit & task logs grow very large very quickly.
They need to be able to archive and clear the logs. They are too large for EPM Maestro to handle and they don't want to schedule them as a regular event.
I am concerned because I am sure that these large log tables are impacting performance.
They want to know if the old system 9 utility they used to use is still available in the latest version. It was called the HFM audit data export utility. Does anyone know?
Thanks in advance and kind regards
JeanI know this is a reasonably old post but I found it through Google. To help those in the future, this utility is available via Oracle Support. It is HFM Service Fix 11.1.1.2.05 but it is compatible up to 11.1.1.3.
Here is the Oracle Support KB Article:
*How To Extract the Data Audit and Task Audit records of an HFM application to a File [ID 1067055.1]*+
Modified 23-MAR-2010 Type HOWTO Status PUBLISHED
Applies to:
Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 4.1.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 4.1 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Goal
Some system administrators of Financial Management desire a method to archive / extract the information from the DATA_AUDIT and TASK_AUDIT database tables of an HFM application before truncating those tables.
Solution
Oracle provides a stand alone utility called HFMAuditExtractUtilitiy.exe to accomplish this task. As well as extracting the records of the two log tables, the utility can also be used to truncate the tables at the same time.
The utility comes with a Readme file which should be consulted for more detailed instructions on how it should be used.
The latest version of the utility which is compatible with all versions of HFM up to 11.1.1.3 is available as Service Fix 11.1.1.2.05 (Oracle Patch 8439656).

Firefox, together with asghost.exe (Asus Security Protect Manager) uses up to 60% of CPU time on MANY sites. Firefox is the only browser which does that. One of many urls is below.
This is Vista on a Asus F3S Notebook (2007)Hi,
Thanks for the reply - you steered me in the right direction .
The only thing is - removing the 'My Videos' folder works only once. After re-starting the software it re-appears. The next thing I tried was unticking 'convert videos' .
Both the above made no difference. Transcoder.exe would return and tie up the computer resources.
So, the next thing was to remove 'My Videos' and create a folder with nothing in it (I called it NULL) and point the 'sync videos from your computer to your device' there.
This has cured my problems.
Without upsetting people, I cannot be very positive about this Blackberry Desktop Software. Without the above problems it is a resource hog (Rim.Desktop.exe). If someone had a net-top with say an Atom processor, this software would be render the computer unusable. -
I would like to know what protection is in place for administrative access to the AirPort via LAN connection. Does the app - Mac and Windows versions - encrypt the connection over port 5353?
I can't seem to find any documentation on this.
Hoping someone can help :-)Is there a method available for administrative access that does allow for encrypted credential transmission?
No
is there no way to save the running configuration to the start-up to secure against the reset problem?
No, but it is possible to save the configuration file in AirPort Utility to a location of your choice by Exporting the file, then Importing it at a future time.
This would save having to enter all of the configuration settings again manually, if someone had reset the AirPort router back to factory default settings. -

I'm doing a scan around a line by sampling data 360 degrees for every value of z(z is the position on the line). So, that mean I have a double for-loop where I collect the data. The problem comes when I try to plot the data. How should I do?
Jonas,
I think what you want is a 3D plot of a cylinder. I have attached an example using a parametric 3D plot.
You will probably want to duplicate the points for the first theta value to close the cylinder. I'm not sure what properties of the graph can be manipulated to make it easier to see.

Statistic on throughput of data loader utility
Hi All
Can you guys share some statistics on throughput of data loader utility ? If you are looking for number of records you may consider 1 Million, how long it would take to import this ?.
I need these number to make a call on using Web Service or Data loader utility. Any suggestion is appreciated.
Thank you.It really depends on the object and the amount of data in there (both the number of fields you are mapping, and how much data is in the table).
For example…
One of my clients has over 1.2M Accounts. It takes about 3 hours (multi-tenant) to INSERT 28k new customers. But when we were first doing it, it was sub-1hour. Because the bulk loader is limited on the record count (most objects are limited to 30k records in the input file), you will need to break up your file accordingly.
But strangely, the “Financial Account” object (not normally exposed in the standard CRMOD), we can insert 30k records in about 30 min (and there are over 1M rows in that table). Part of this is probably due to the number of fields on the account and the address itself (remember it is a separate table in the underlying DB, even though it looks like there are two address sets of fields on the account).
The bulk loader and the wizard are roughly the same. However, the command line approach doesn’t allow for simultaneously INSERT/UPDATE (there are little tricks around this; depends how you might prepare the extract files from your other system... UPDATE file and a INSERT file, some systems aren't able to extract this due to the way they are built).
Some objects you should be very careful with because the way the indexes are built. For example, ASSET and CONTACT both will create duplicates even when you have an “External Unique Id”. For those, we use web services. You aren’t limited to a file size there. I think (same client) we have over 800k ASSETS and 1.5M CONTACTS.
The ASSET load (via webservice which does both INSERT and UPDATE) typically can insert about 40k records in about 6 hours.
The CONTACT load (via webservice which does both INSERT and UPDATE) typically can insert about 40k records in about 10 hours.
Your best shot is to do some timings via the import wizard and do a little linear time increase as you increase the data size sitting in the tables.
My company (Hitachi Consulting) can help build these things (both automated bulk loaders and web services) if you are interested due to limited resource bandwidth or other factors.
