Scrubbing FLV Movies - Performance?

Hi there Folks,
I am currently using the FLVPlayback, seekBar component to
scrub external FLV files. However I am finding the performance when
dragging the seekHandle is poor. i.e. If I drag the seekHandle at a
resonable speed, the movie seems to take a second or half second to
update on screen. This gives a very disjointed feedback/user
interaction which does not feel smooth when using.
My FLV files are fairly small, average a few meg, ranging
from 50 frames to 200, or 5 to 20 seconds.
Is this a keyframe issue with my FLV's? If so what is the
best settings when exporting FLV's of this size for use when
scrubbing?

I'll normally put a keyframe every 15 frames to get decent
scrub
performance...less is better, but then filesize goes up. 15
works pretty
good, IMO.

FLV movies now poor quality

Hi All,
I'm really struggling with this. In the past using DWCS3 I
have embedded FLV movie files into websites without a problem. For
example,

However, no matter what I do now with DWCS4, whenever I
embedd an FLV movie, the playback quality is jerky and poor. For
example,
http://www.cupcakemakeandbake.co.uk/lookatus/ourvideos.html
Even if I embed the first movie into a new page, it results
in a jerky (as if frames are skipping) playback.
I am not doing anything different. So, can anyone tell me if
they experience the same issue or even what I can do to resolve it?

It isn't DW, but a combination of how you compressed the
video, the
speed of your Web servers, the speed of your (my) connection,
and all
the connections in between.
In my case, both of those videos paused for buffering.
FWIW, I see you compressed cupcakemakeandbake_VP6_512K.flv
with:
Video: 364 Kbps
Audio: 128 Kbps
For a total 492 K throughput rate. For my connection (basic
cable,
typically 5 MB), I get my best results when I compress for a
total of
300 Kbps. Likewise for my clients, though I send those
through a
streaming server.
And even though strangersinthenight.flv is compressed at a
much higher
rate, my connection to davehollington.co.uk (talk-101) is
much faster
than my connection to cupcakemakeandbake.co.uk (123-reg) -
today. In
fact, my tracert to cupcakemakeandbake.co.uk timed out at 30
hops twice
while writing this.
Suggestion:
Try compressing the videos to a lower total throughput rate
with the
software you're using to create the .flv files.
You could also try a test with the cupcake video on your
davehollington.co.uk server to see if it is running from a
better host.
I can tell you that my connection to cupcakemakeandbake.co.uk
from here
California isn't ideal at this moment.

FLV movie not playing in webpage

Hi,
I need help here as I'm completely baffled.
I have created a. FLV movie which is placed in a webpage
created in Dreamweaver 8. I created the FLV in Flash 8 by importing
the Video and creating the Controls etc and placing all the files
in the same directory as the page.
On my own home computers, and also from the Hardrive, the
movies work fine.
When placed on the work intranet site, the page loads, but
the FLV file is just a white blank page.
Is there something that needs to be chnaged on the Webserver
to play FLV's or am i missing something here.
Any help would be appreciated.

Update:
Still cant figure out why the FLV file is a white box, but,
If I open the html page directly on the server it plays perfectly.
It seems to fail when opened from a linked page which is one
directory back.
for example I have a list of links on a page.
link one
link two
link three
each of these links target the html page in
Folder1/linkone.html
Folder2/linktwo.html
Folder3/linkthree.html
Each folder has its required flv file and swf file beside the
html file.
If I doubleclick the linkone.html file directly from the
directory, it works fine.
But if I click the link from link one.html the page loads
fine but the movie stays white.

Integrating .flv movie into Adobe Presenter

I'm using an external .flv movie in a Adobe Presenter project
that I'm working on. The file is played in a .swf controller that I
have used in other Breeze presentations with succes. When published
to my computer the presentation plays perfect. But once I upload it
to the server it no longer works. I'm using Sorensen Squeeze to
compress the .flv file but I'm worried that I'm using the wrong
compression. Can any one give me the specifications for .flv movies
to be used in Adobe Presenter.

Activity Window Shows "Forbidden" When Attempting to Play FLV Movies

I've noticed a problem for the past few months using both Safari 2 and 3 that when I go to certain web sites with embedded FLV movies, if I click on the movie, I get an error at the bottom of the Safari window that tells me to check the Activity window. When I do, I see that the specific URL for the embedded movie shows a status of "Forbidden." However, if I click on the link to view the movie directly from the source site (not the embedded version), I have no problems. If I try the same thing in Firefox, the embedded movies always play fine. I'm running the latest version of Flash (just downloaded 9.0.115 today) and still have the issue. Any idea why a movie won't play when it's embedded but plays fine if you go to the site directly? What could be causing a response of "Forbidden"?

Happy Dance!! I purchased a TV Show and it solved everything. I like the product... now, but what a pain all around, with very little direction. Thank goodness for forums like this. What a nice way to outsource your support to you customers! If it helps anyone, this is what I went through to gt everything working across a wireless AirPort Extreme network (iMac source):
1. Followed instruction out of the box, connected to network fine, established connection to iTunes fine, set up sync fine
2. Couldn't play any purchased content on ATV (unauthorized), logged in about 5 times on ATV, which is a PITA, no luck
3. Unplugged ATV, plugged back in, login in was successful
4. White screen on video, couldn't play purchased music
5. Purchased TV episode, everything played fine
Between steps 4 & 5 I also unnecessarily did the following over the course of a day:
1. Reset ATV
2. Reset ATV to factory
3. Removed ATV from iTunes
4. Deauthorized/reauthorized Tunes
5. Changes every video setting thinking that it was my TV, as Apple would never release a buggy product in the market
Anyway, thanks for the hints, as now I'm liking this little piece of gear.

Stopping an flv movie?

I need to stop an flv movie when I click a button that is not on the control bar. e.g. I have three pages in flash and when I navigate from the videos page after starting the playback of the movie, the audio from the movie continues to play. I have no idea why this is. Please, any help is appreciated. I only have about 2 hours to fix this. :/

How to use a Buffer on a flv movie inserted in flash

I've inserted a flv movie in my swf and, because it has 7.5Mb
I want to use a buffer when it is played.

Click on the FLPlayback component and open open the Component
Inspector window. There will be an entry for Buffer, change it from
.01 (or blank) to something between 15 to 45 (seconds).

How to burn .flv movie files to a viewable dvd

i have an older macbook (2ghz intel duo core 2 duo, 2 gb 667 mhz ddr2 sdram). i would like to burn some .flv movie files to a dvd which can be viewed on an ordinary dvd player. (i am unfamiliar with the computer's movie making software, unfortunately) is there a simple, user friendly method to do this? any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Have you tried just dragging them into iDVD? Don't see any reason why that shouldn't work. Not saying you'll get the greatest quality.

And from admin i will run my flash project where i can be able to open that uploaded flv file and

Yes its playing FLV in SWF.
See its golf movie people will upload from simple form
and in admin i will run my flash swf file where that flv movie play and
i can be able to edit that that means i am able to draw line and remove
anything if i wish ... or add anything ... in flv in run time environment.

When I try to File Save As on an .FLV movie, Firefox automatically changes the filetype to .mp4 while Chrome for instance retains the .FLV file type. I wanted to see why this is and how it can be fixed to work similarly to Chrome. Thanks.

If that file is an FLV file then Firefox should save it as such and not change the file extension.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

How can I use a FLV/MOV as one of 2 inputs?

I was wondering if anyone knew of good way to add a video to
a 2 input filter (that isn't a blend)?
I'm using a filter that is a lot like (Ryan Taylor's)
DisplacementMapFilter:

Which I've seen work with still images, but I would love to
see it work with a movie as 1 of the inputs.
If I can get help to make Ryan's filter to work with a FLV or
MOV, then I can get it to work on the filter that I'm working on.
I've got it to work with JPGs (by applying it to a BitmapData
object). And I've got a movie to work with a filter with 1 input
(which is pretty easy). But this one has really stumped me.
When it's a blend its really easy, but filters like (Ryan
Taylor's) DisplacementMapFilter.pbk won't work with just a
blendShader.
PLEASE HELP!

Quick and easy way to do it:
1) Load each video into an FLVPlayback instance. Listen for
the PLAYHEAD_UPDATE event.
2) onPlayheadUpdate, grab your frames with bitmapData.draw().
3) Supply those bitmapDatas to the shader:
shader.data.image1.input = bitmapData1
shader.data.image2.input = bitmapData2
4) Draw the result with the drawing API's beginShaderFill
method.

Can't Scrub QT Movies in Cover Flow/Preview?

Anyone know how to scrub a QT movie in Cover Flow and the preview in Column View? I see a play button that turns into a stop button. Is this 1980?
BTW, I don't have a clue why Apple doesn't put the QT controls under each QT movie in Icon View. This would be very useful.

Thanks Spacesuiter! Although I did not post this question, you have solved another problem that has been vexing my web site. My embedded movies would sometimes (tho not consistently) display only the playbar (no video) centered in the embed area like this. I just dumped the plugin you mentioned and it has solved the problem! Too bad Apple has not addressed this.

Control 2 flv movies with one button

Hello,
I am not even sure this can be done, but I am trying to
control 2 flv's with one set of controls. The reason; We have
footage of a talking head as one flv and footage of a microscope.
Basically, the guy talks and moves the microscope around. These 2
flv's have to be synched b/c the guy is talking and showing how
things look under a microscope (the original footage was shot at
the same time using 2 different methods - I imported both in
Flash). So, my quandry is that I need one set of controls for both
these flv's b/c if you pause the talking head, you also have to
pause the scope. I tried to make both flv's a movie clip and
control them that way, but got no where with that. I also tried to
build my own skin with a Play and Pause Button for now, but only
got as far as the code below. Basically, I can control one flv
component, but not both at the same time. Any ideas would help - I
am not sure if this is an AS issue, or a complete design issue, or
if it can even be done at all - thanks much in advance...

I have discovered that what I wanted to do above is not possible in Livecycle. The only thing that works in the Livecycle script editor is the xfa.host.print from what I found.
I was able to add a print button to a form that I scanned in that enabled me to print at 2 different printers at the same time. What I did was to first set up a mouse up action to execute a menu item (file>print) and then I added a second mouse up action to run the JavaScript below

This resulted in me being able to print to my default printer (HP) and the Xerox with just one click of the button.

Need help : for changing the flv movie size

i am loading my flv thogh xml link if load my flv the same
size what i kept in my folder using script shall i change the movie
size because lot of movies is loads dynmicaly i cannot go and
change each and evry movie

You should be able to change the product name in Google Cloud. The ChromeBook uses Google Cloud to print (Google Cloud uses HP ePrint). Log into your google account and change the printer name there.

.flv movie quits when viewing in web browser

I'm still having problems with my flash movies. I'm using the
.flv playback component in flash and when I preview my movie (an
.flv file) in flash it plays all the way through, but when I view
through a web browser the movie quits after 25 seconds (it's 30
seconds long). At 25 seconds in, the movie freezes (like when a DVD
movie freezes/messes up and the jumbled up boxes appear) and then
the movie quits even though it didn't have any problems loading.
I've encoded using Adobe Media Encoder 5 different times and
rerendered the movie from After Effects but am still having a
problem. Anyone have any idea what the problem is?

The jquery is there to animate the marquee, so even without the JS file the div container should still be showing up right? Part of the video tutorial said to switch to "live view" to make sure one of the div containers was positioning correctly, and when I do this nothing happens. It works for the guy on the tutorial so I am not sure what I am doing differently. Since it is not working at this point I have not added the jQuery, should I just assume it is a JQuery problem and continue on? I just don't understand why it is showing up in design view but just a blank white page in live view.
