    Hi Lisa,
From my understanding, SCS instance is typically installed on CI host, instead of DB host.
SCS could be installed on any OS supported by SAP (Windows, unix/linux, OS/400, etc)
    Thank you,

  • Stored procedure for getting host name, host instance and status of that host is it running or stopped.

    Hello all,
yesterday I got one task in that I have to stored procedure for getting host name, host instance and status of that host is it running or stopped.
any body knows where exactly, In which table this details are there in BizTalk databases.
    thanks

Status of the host instance is not stored in the SQL database for you to query the status using stored procedure. You have to either use Powershell or WMI to get the status.
In SQL, following table contains the details about the host like Name, LoginName, IsDisables etc but status of the host instance is not stored in the database.
    SELECT * FROM BizTalkMgmtDb..adm_HostInstance
    Powershell to get the status:
    http://axonolympus.nl/?page_id=186&post_id=969&cat_id=6&lang=en
    WMI to get the status:

  • OEM Host CPU was a bottleneck and the instance was consuming 9% of the host

select * from DBA_ADVISOR_FINDINGS gives me something like this:
Host CPU was a bottleneck and the instance was consuming 9% of the host CPU. All wait times will be inflated by wait for CPU.
Individual SQL statements responsible for significant user I/O wait were found.
Wait class "User I/O" was consuming significant database time.
Individual database segments responsible for significant user I/O wait were found.
Wait class "User I/O" was consuming significant database time.
The throughput of the I/O subsystem was significantly lower than expected.
Wait class "User I/O" was consuming significant database time.
Individual database segments responsible for significant physical I/O were found.

Wait class "User I/O" was consuming significant database time.
Hard parsing of SQL statements was consuming significant database time.

I am confused by the message:

Please help me to explain it.

At first sight, this does seem contradictory - but there are two or three reasonable interpretations, and you'll have to check the AWR report for the period to decide which is more appropriate:
Option a) Oracle is consuming 9% of the host CPU - perhaps there's something else going on that's consuming the other 91%. There is a section in the AWR that can confirm this:
    Operating System Statistics
    Statistic                                       Total
    AVG_BUSY_TIME                                  93,560
    AVG_IDLE_TIME                                 269,814
    AVG_IOWAIT_TIME                                     0
    AVG_SYS_TIME                                   56,261
    AVG_USER_TIME                                  37,170
    BUSY_TIME                                  13,490,550
    IDLE_TIME                                  38,870,398
    IOWAIT_TIME                                         0
    SYS_TIME                                    8,119,694
    USER_TIME                                   5,370,856
    LOAD                                               59
    OS_CPU_WAIT_TIME                              347,700
    RSRC_MGR_CPU_WAIT_TIME                              0
    VM_IN_BYTES                                   106,496
    VM_OUT_BYTES                                        0
    PHYSICAL_MEMORY_BYTES                 308,227,858,432
    NUM_CPUS                                          144
-------------------------------------------These times are in hundredths of seconds (usually) - we can check busy_time and idle time to see if the CPU is 100% used despite Oracle only using 9%. (Also check the other CPU figures that relate specifically to Oracle).
Option b) You are only using 9% of the CPU, but ADDM can see that (for some processes or statements perhaps) that elapsed time = CPU time, and wants to give the message that there is an opportunity for improving these statements by tuning. (Given the comments about wait times being affected by CPU usage, though, I doubt if this is the case).
Option c) There was a least one version of Oracle where some of the critical timings were reported in milliseconds rather than hundredths. This resulted in some silly conclusions when the ADDM could see SOME figures which were actually out by a factor of 10. Possibly one piece of arithmetic is showing 90% but the report you're looking at is showing 9% because of this code error. (Again, you have to cross-check the O/S CPU statistics with the Oracle CPU stats to check this theory).

  • Instance specific exe directories on central host

    Hi
I need to know, how to make out if
i have Instance specific exe directories on central host or
i dont have Instance specific exe directories on central host.
    kenel files on Central Instance:
    F:\usr\sap\VWP\sys\exe\run is available
    kernel files on Application Server:
    F:\usr\sap\VWP\D00\exe is available
Does that mean i dont have Instance specific exe directories on central host.
    Regards
    Ricky

    Hi
Start Profiles file of the application server is in Production box.  Path usr/sap/<sid>/sys/profile is as:
Content of Strat profile of Application server:
    Start_Program_01 = immediate $(DIR_EXECUTABLE)\$(_CP) pf=$(DIR_PROFILE)\<SID>_D00_<Application_Server>
    start application server
    _DW = disp+work.exe
    Start_Program_04 = local $(DIR_EXECUTABLE)\$(_DW) pf=$(DIR_PROFILE)\<SID>_D00_<Application_Server>
I believe it means, we dont have instance specific exe direcotries.

  • SolMan 4.0 - SCS instance allocates wrong ports

    Hello,
we have a solution manager 4.0 installation on IBM iSeries (System i / AS 400).
Kernel is 700 with patch lvl 92/dbsl patch 70.
Central instance is number 50, scs instance is 51.
The system is running in so far that I can logon to it and transaction SICK reports no errors.
Examining the system more accurately revealed that the j2ee server is configured but not operational (transaction SMICM).
Looking at the running jobs, i see that jcontrol, msg_server and server0 are not running.
The developer trace of dev_ms of the central instance shows errors:

Is anything wrong with our configuration(which we did not change manually) ?
Do we have to patch the kernel ?

    Hello Mr.Hermsen,
some profile parameters were set wrong by the installation routines.
SAP send me some reference profiles from a running solution manager installation and I synchronized our profiles accordingly.
I cannot remember exactly which parameters were wrong, but i guess it was one of the port numbers.
    Good luck and best regards,
    Jürgen Scheckelhoff

  • Sapinst.exe SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME= virtual hostname of (A)SCS instance

    Hi all,
For starting installation on HA systems with following command  INST_USE_HOSTNAME=<virtual hostname of (A)SCS instance>
    <virtual hostname of (A)SCS instance> points to SAP<SID> or GPSYSTEM  ?
GPSYSTEM is name of virtual host created during MSCS ,  or SAP<SID> which is created for A(SCS)..
Which is used for starting , However i have started with GPSYSTEM, resulting in some issues, therefore is suspect. Please advice.
    Thanks,
    Rahul

This host name need be the name which you put in 7.4.2 step 10(when you create the client access point, you also need assign a IP address to this name in your public network, this is refer teh installation guide for ehp4, not ehp5), if your DNS setting haven't done the resolution for this virtual host name, you need put a entry to you hosts file, for example, if you use virtual host name is GPSYSTEM, your hosts in nodeA and nodeB need have below line:
<IP address for this virtual host>   GPSYSTEM
Later on after finish this installation, you can let network team add it to your DNS setting.  you need can ping GPSYSTEM after you finish 7.4.2 and bring the access point online. You need use sapinst.exe SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=GPSYSTEM to do the installation.
BTW, you should add all your three virtual host name into your hosts file or setup in DNS at first, the three virtual hosts is:
    virtual host for failover cluster
    virtual host for DB
virtual host for ASCS(suppose you only need ABAP stack), below is my hosts before setup it in DNS
172.30.15.30     DBPRD    #virtual host for db
172.30.15.31     SAPPRD #virtual host for ASCS
172.30.15.32     CSPRD   #virtual host for failover cluster

  • SAPINST Repeatedly Checking Installed SCS Instance !

    Hi Gurus,
We are installing PI 7.0 on Solaris / Oracle platform. We have one Physical Server Having multiple logical instance ( no physical
partition, just logical partitions ) . SCS is installed successfully, without any issue.
On that same physical box, once the SCS is installed on X Logical Partition ,  to install the DB Instance on the other logical partition Y , we set SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME = xxxxxxdb ( this is logical host for db instance + db ) and EACH time we launch the SAPInst and what happen repeatedly is :
    - SAPInst first displays the message " Invalid Parameter  xxxxxx and xxxxxxdb
    - Next SAPInst displays the msg " Instllation of SCS Completed Successfully "
    - Next when we click on ' ok ' button , SAPInst  simply disappears without even displaying the Home Page of SAPInst, which
will have all the options for the various SAP Systems
    SAPINST.LOG has following entry

Any Suggestion that, why the SAPInst will behave in such weired way each time, we attempt to launch SAPInst on different
logical host i.e. XXXXXDB and still it will simply keep checking that SCS Instance has completed successfully and then
    disappear ??!
Any / ALL inputs are welcome and your time and efforts are highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    - Ishan

Are you using the same installation directory by chance? I've noticed this type of behavior when you re-use an installation directory (with all the log files and so on).
    Hope that helps.

  • SCS instance installation Windows2003

    Hi,

    Hi Lisa,
SCS (J2EE message and enqueue service) should be installed on CI.
BTW, SCS is a must in every environment if you are using SAP J2EE stack (from 640).

  • Catalog backup getting Error resolving host - unknown host name in dataset

I have new install of OSB version 10.3.0.1.0 [Admin, Mediaserver, Client] installed on the same OEL server. My Catalog Backup jobs end up with error " unknown host name in dataset" and the job detail shows only "Error resolving host - unknown host name in dataset" while I can ping the admin host with obtool pingh command. The standard auto created Catalog backup dataset looks like this:
    Dataset: OSB-CATALOG-DS
    # Dataset for backing up the OSB Catalog on this administrative host
    include catalog
I am able to create a separate dataset with the hostname defined and able to backup filesystems on the same host, np . Only the catalog backup from system generated dataset and schedule doesn't run. I appreciate any help or tip to make this catalog backup work. Thanks.

This problem is fixed by just restarting observiced on admin server.

  • Install BW7 ABAP+JAVA, why is SCS instance nr set to 00?

    Hi,
we are trying to install BW7 ABAP+JAVA, and SAPinst defaulted the SCS instance nr to be 00, and the CI nr to be 01. We cannot change this values from the SAPinst screen. We want CI to be 00 and SCS to be 01. Anyway to do this? Thanks.

You could try putting a dummy sapmsXXX and dummy SCS profile in /sapmnt/<other_sid>/profile to fool SAPINST into thinking there's already an instance running on sysnr 00.
Why do you want to reverse the SCS and CI instance numbers though?

  • SCS instance in   AS (ABAP+JAVA) / AS JAVA system

    Hello,
Can somebody pl. tell me what is function of  SCS instance in NW04s.
It contains message and enqeue services
But another instance also has message and enqueue services  for the same istance.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Tushar Chavan

    Hello Tushar ,
The Central Services form the basis of communication and synchronization for the Java cluster.
The Message Service keeps a list of the dispatchers and server processes of the Java cluster. It represents the infrastructure for data exchange (small datasets only) between the participating nodes. The message service also supplies information to the SAP Web Dispatcher about Load Balancing Between Many Java Instances.
The Enqueue Service manages logical database locks, which are set by the executed application program in a server process. The enqueue service also synchronizes data across the cluster.
    Integration
Central Services are always required when a Java cluster is installed. They are started on a server with their own system number and the system ID (SID) of the whole system.
Hope this will help you to understand .
    Regards,
    Santosh

  • Manually Moving VMS from HOST to HOST *WITH* Shared SAS Storage

    Hi,
    Environment will be 2 Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V servers.
They will be connect via shared SAS.  These are two identical IBM servers with shared SAS storage
I am hoping to eliminate using MS Clustering of the Hyper-V servers just to keep things straight forward.
In the event, I had a complete failure of one of the  physical server Hyper V hosts, I was hoping be able to manually add/import (not sure what the terminology is here) and run the virtual machines on the second host until the first is repaired.
If there is third party software that can do this, I would entertain it.
In VMware (I had two hosts and would manually remove them from inventory on one server and add them to a second server).
Ideally, if I could keep both Hyper-V hosts in a Windows Workgroup and as vanilla as possible.
    Thanks in Advance,
    G

    Hi,
Sorry for the late reply.  I have been researching all I can. And thanks to all for your patience and help!
Let's start with the hardware to help paint the picture:
    2 @ IBM X3550 M4
    1 @ IBM V3700
The two X3550's are going to be connected via 6GB SAS Cards (2/server for redundacy)
Current environment (residing on VMWare with older IBM Xseries servers DS3524 connect via SAS connections)  40 users total.
    Windows servers are:
    1 @ SBS 2011 (One and only AD/PDC)
2 @ Windows 2008 Servers that are CRM (these are Windows Member Servers)
5 @ Windows 2003 servers that are going to be replace with Windows 2008 Servers (these are Windows Member servers) (low usage servers)
    Just to recap:
The current environment running VMware 4.1 has both IBM X3500 servers able to see a  single 1.5 TB lun (SAS connected) presented by the DS3524.
Currently, in VMware, I can see the same LUN on both servers.  I have all my VM's on HOSTA, if HOSTA should suffer a system board failure, I manually connect to HOSTB with the VMware client and add the VMs that I can see on the shared LUN
    and add them to HOSTB.
My understanding is that its strongly recommend that my DC (not sure if they are implying PDC or BDC) on a physical server.  My hesitation is now I have to introduce a DC to SBS 2011 and manage a physical server and deal with with SBS 2011's quirks.
So I was hoping that if I presented a LUN to both my HyperV hosts (In a Workgroup), and created on my VMs on hostA, if something went very bad with HOSTA,  I could connect to HOSTB and "Import" them and manually start the VMs, especially since
    SBS 2011 is sensitive.
The client is okay with some downtime, so if the process is supported and works, then I am okay with doing the work.
Clustering or even Replicas will add:
    Complexity to the environment
Patching needs to be carefully planned as it would not look good to have to failover due to a Windows update on the primary host.
The tech's that support that environment will now need to know about Clustering and/or Replication ontop of the SAN stuff
I am looking at Veeam, Double-Take to see if they can work with 2 @ 2012 Hyper-V hosts configured in a Workgroup.
The SBS 2011 is the "hinge" that will make or break the success of this project.  I personally love the way 2012 Hyper-V works, but it would be great if a physical server outside of the HyperV hosts was not required.
    Thanks !
    G
