SCSI Controller for ULTRA 5

I would like to add a SCSI controller for my ultra 5
workstation for my SCSI-2 Wide tape drive. Any suggust
for this PCI SCSI controller ?/?

Yes it is possible. I am using now.You need a PCI SCSI HBA card with internal connector
like Sun option X5010A. Use Smart Card Reader tray for trial SCSI disk installtion, first. After reset all search SCSI device probe-scsi-all, write this device path down on a paper.
Edit OBP devalias; nvalias disk4 /pci@1,0/ ....../disk@x,0 Install Solaris from CD-ROM 1 of2, Select SCSI disk to install. Set No AutoBoot . When done try boot
from boot disk4. If this is what you want ,
edit boot-device? to disk4 setenv boot-device?=disk4
Key word: devalias,setenv,nvalias,prtconf -vp,eeprom

Need PCI SCSI controller for Sparc

I am perplexed at how difficult it is to get a Sparc-based PCI SCSI controller. I need help. If I search man section 7d of Solaris 9 I can find glm, isp, mpt, ncrs, and syshisl which appear to be drivers for PCI SCSI controllers on Sparc, but no idea of where to buy one (none of these are Adaptec, which I do know where to buy). If I search the Sun Store I can find part numbers for SCSI controllers but absolutely no description of them or which drivers they use. If I search the Sun documentation site I can find a few SCSI controllers mentioned but not referred to by the part numbers on the Sun store, so I still cannot get ordering info. When I search BigAdmin for driver support I find the pages dont tell me which architecture a driver is for. For example, I look up common Adaptec controllers and find drivers such as adp, cadp cadp160 but the web pages neglect to say they are for x86 only.

You find the SB100 and the V120 in the list of EOL systems (both are discontinued models).

For each computer, you can review the "Full Components List" link,
where there is a section that displays SCSI adapters,
including their part numbers and their sales option numbers.
You will be able to see that there was only one LVD card qualified
to function properly in the V120. You will also be able to see
that there weren't any LVD cards ever qualified in the SB100.
I anticipate the x6758a card will work fine in both, .
The SunBlade 100 desktop system is so old that it was already End-Of-Llife (EOL)
before Sun started to ship the SCSI card. Thus there was no reason
to go backwards and qualify the card to a disco'd platform.
If you do decide to purchase and install that card, be sure to read its manual carefully.
You will need to install separate driver software to the computers.
The QUS drivers ship with newly purchased x6758a cards, or can be downloaded from Sun.

I'm searching for a compatible SCSI Conrtoller for the SunFire x4500. I want to attach a tape drive form type hp StoreageWorks SDLT 600 to that SCSI controller. Any ideas?

Is this an OEM card? ATTO web site does not list such a model.
Otherwise, you'll be better off with a ExpressPCI UL4D or UL4S. I have run a UL4D in my G4 MDD for years with absolutely no problem. You could get one from ebay for cheap.

SCSI Controller AH2940UW

I am instaling Solaris 9 on a ULTRA Sparc 10 but the installation does not detect the AH2940UW SCSI controller.
Does this controller require a separate driver to be installed or is there another configuration that needs to be done?

Yes, it would require driver software, and Adaptec chooses to not create such packages.
Adaptec would have to also modify the chipset on that card to make it compatible with Sun's SPARC architecture.
It will not work. Period.
Find a different HBA.
Search the Hardware forums for keyword symbios.
If you search those forums with keyword adaptec you'll find how

HBA SCSI Controller number instance

How do I control the SCSI controller number for an HBA?
Inserted identical HBAs into two Ultra 5 (same PCI slot #1), to begin building a test cluster.
The primary Sun comes up with c1t17d0 the secondary comes up with c2t17d0.
On the secondary I've removed the /etc/path_to_inst and c2t17 links on /dev/dsk & rdsk, rebooted -ar and it still comes up as c2t17...
Any ideas would be appreciated.

you could try this..
1)
Backup /etc/path_to_inst and then modify the file such that the only
scsi references that exist are for the boot drive. Remove all of the
"pcipsy" and "glm" entries except for the one that is used by the controller
that has the boot drive. KEEP A NOTE OF THE PHYSICAL PATH OF THE CONTROLLER
YOU WANT TO RENUMBER.
2)
Remove all /dev/dsk/cN* and /dev/rdsk/cN* where N is the controller number(s)
you want to nuke and possibly the number(s) of the controller that no longer
exists
3)
Remove all /dev/cfg/cN for all N EXCEPT the controller with the boot drive.
4)
Remove /devices for the controller you want to renumber, as indicated
in step 1.
5)
Remove /dev/sdNN* that symbolically link to controllers you don't want
anymore. (These are compatibility devices only.)
6)
Boot with "-srv" option.

Max Hard Drive size for Ultra 10s

Hi,
I'm kinda new to sun and I have a ultra 10s with a 9 Gig factory installed HD.
I was wondering what the maximum sized IDE hard drive that can be installed. I would like to mirror the system as well. I've seen another post about this but the max size was a 27 Gig drive and didn't explain how to mirror. I have Solaris 8 1/01 meda kit does that include the required software to mirror the drives. I think it's called Raid Manager?

I'm not sure what the max drive size supported on an Ultra-10, but most
new Sun products are shipping with 40 GByte EIDE drives and use the
same chipset. Caveat emptor: Solaris <7 may or may not support EIDE
larger than 8GBytes, but since you are on Solaris 8 you should be ok.
For SCSI drives (requires a PCI SCSI HBA for the Ultra-10) the size can
be quite large. The most common large size SCSI drives today is 180
GBytes, but SCSI is designed to scale much larger.
You don't want RAIDManager for mirroring. Look for Solstice DiskSuite (SDS)
in your media distribution. If I'm not mistaken, it is cleverly hidden in
the "EA" directory on CD 2of2 in the media kit. Also, look for docs on
mirroring root using SDS on http://docs.sun.com

GDT-SCSI Controller and 865G Neo2 PLS

I try to install a GDT-SCSI RAID (GDT6528RS) Controller on a 865G Neo2 PLS. While POST of the controller works fine (it detects all the SCSI Disks, says "1 Disk for BIOS"), I can not boot of the RAID. The BIOS simply does not even try. I selected "SCSI" in the BIOS as first in the boot order, but no boot sector gets detected. I already updated the Firmware on the SCSI Controller, I tried to update the mobo BIOS, but I'm not sure which one to take, as it says "BIOS > 3.x are not supported on 865G Neo2".
Has anybody a hint what I'm missing? The SCSI Card seems to need a PCI-Bus Master-Slot, there is nothing mentioned about one of those in the manual. May this be my Problem?

I got the same issue here with a K8T-Master1 AMD64 Mainboard. The BIOS detects and displays the RAID-Controller (a ICP Vortex GDT8546RZ 4-Channel S-ATA RAID Controller), but regardless what is configured for bootup, the BIOS doesn't even try to boot from this (say SCSI) device. All worked fine with the old ASUS Mainboard before (CUBX-E). I will upgrade the BIOS now, and if this doesn't work either, i need a simple IDE "Boot-HDD", since this is a developer workstation and the RAID is very important.......

Sorry rakman2, but your suggestions will not work with that system.
A Sun V20z is Intel Xeon based.
No OBP, and therefore no OBP commands or utilities (such as probe).
Let's just wait for hero to provide more information.

... and an error about a ROM on a peripheral usually means unqualified 3rd party hardware.

The glm0 and glm1 are the SCSI busses. Now, my problem is to access the tape drives (in the autochanger) connected to that controller.
I cannot find out how to create mount points for those tape drives.
Any suggestions?

Did you do a boot -r?
That will do a 'devfsadm' which does all the /dev stuff for you.
Do you have the latest Recommended patch kit to make sure all your drivers are up to date?

Solaris 8 don't recognize a SCSI CDROM for installation

My Intel system has a IDE hard disk and a SCSI Adaptec 1542CP. I'm trying to install Solaris 8 using a Matsushita SCSI CDROM ( scsi id=5 ). The hardware it's fine because I'm booting DOS 6.22 and Unixware 7.11 using the same system.
Solaris diskette recognizes my SCSI controller but don't recognizes my CDROM. Please could you help me ?

Can you see them from the OBP with a probe-scsi-all etc....
Are they actually Sun qualified disks, have they got Sun firmware on them, what are the model numbers.
Have a search on sunsolve for the ST number if it's a Seagate etc etc and try and find some firmware to burn to them from another system.
Failing that connect to another system and run format and low level format time. The RAID cont might of burnt somekind of special headers to them, god knows....
What kind of RAID cont was it? What type of system are you using, and what system were they in?

Adaptec SCSI controller on Virtual XP mode

I am trying to get my SCSI HP ScanJet 3C/4C scanners to work on my PC. I just installed Win 7 64 bits Ultimate with the Virtual PC-XP mode I cannot get the driver to catch the SCSI controller as it is suposed to be "embedded" in Windows
XP (according to Adaptec) and thus cannot get separate drivers from Adaptec. It is an Adaptec AHA-2910C card.
It shows the card in the hardware manager of Win 7 but has no drivers for it. If I could at least get the XP mode to see it and install the driver , then I would be in good shape. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, that's just not possible, XP Mode running in Windows VPC cannot
see the real hardware of the PC. only virtual devices WVPC provides,
and pass through SCSI isn't one of the things provided.
VMWare Workstation may provide what you want, but I'm not sure about
any of the other VM solutions.

Ah, I figured it out. I booted and was looking around the CD on another box. The fusion drivers are not in the directory with the other scsi drivers. I found them so I will have another ARCH box soon. - kev

My SCSI drive on a SCSI controller PCI card wont mount using OSX Leopard. It mounts fine using OSX Tiger 10.4.11
How can I make it mount on Leopard?

I have PowerMacs G4 Quicksilvers with SCSI drives running 10.5.8. They boot and run OK without an added driver, faster with an added driver for their ATTO cards.
