SCSI error on new LUN/Zoning layout

I am connecting an array to a SUN V440 and I am seeing these error :
1. fcp: [ID 445167 kern.warning] WARNING: ssfcp_create_pip: fp1: no driver for device @w50001fe15008021d,0:
fcp: [ID 445167 kern.warning] WARNING: ssfcp_create_pip: fp0: no driver for device @w50001fe15007e358,0:

3. scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] ASC: 0x29 (power on, reset, or bus reset occurred), ASCQ: 0x0, FRU: 0x0
4. scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] ASC: 0x3f (reported LUNs data has changed), ASCQ: 0xe, FRU: 0x0
5. mpxio: [ID 669396 kern.info] /scsi_vhci/ssd@g600508b4001081c40000c00002d70000 (ssd55) multipath status: optimal, path /pci@1d,700000/SUNW,qlc@1/fp@0,0 (fp1) to target address: 50001fe15008021d,4 is online. Load balancing: round-robin
Is this just FC-AL loop reset due to bad disk?

Just for interests sake, what did you do just prior to these messages arriving.
Were you making zoning changes in a switch? The reason I asked is that adding or removings LUNS out of a zone will spit out some seriously worrying messages but they should be expected. I know as our operators tend to forget about RFC's and panic when I move Luns around.
Also, what sort of storage are you using? Some non Sun vendors require changes to the scsi_vhci.conf for the system to recognise the storage, especially HP stuff.
Line 5 seems to indicate that the storage in the first line of line 1 is ok and you have multiple paths to the LUN. Not sure about the second line 1 message if that makes sense.
Cheers

• New LUN Takes A long Time To Format and Errors Out

Good afternoon,
I have a Hyper-V Cluster composed of 4 nodes and these nodes are able to access multiple CSVs (14 in total). I recently requested a new LUN (LUN 15)to be provisioned
to my Hyper-V cluster in the size of 500GB. Here is my problem:
1. Formatting of a 500GB LUN (with quick format selected) should not take more than a few seconds. Instead, the quick format takes about 2hrs if not longer. I have actually
seen it go for half the day.
2. Once the formatting has completed (no errors), taking the formatted LUN offline freezes the Computer Management screen and shows the status (Not Responding). This
will take place for 30 minutes or less and show that the LUN has been taken offline.
3. In the Failover Cluster Manager, detecting the disks takes about 15 minutes. Once the available LUNs have been detected I can add the 500GB LUN to the Disks screen
without any problems.
4. While in the Disks screen, adding the LUN to the Clustered Shared Volumes takes about 5 minutes (too long).
Already seeing that there is a problem, I went ahead and used the Hyper-V Manager to create a 200GB vhd on the new LUN which has been added to the CSV. The bar indicating
the progress of the vhd creation does not display any progress (no green progress bar appears, not even a tiny bit of it) and after 3 hours (more or less) I receive an error, stating that the creation of the vhd failed.
NOTE: The vhd shows up in Volume 9 (LUN 15) but I can only bet that it will not work, plus I would not want to work with a vhd file which failed during the
creation process.
Long story short, I repeated the above steps to see if that was a temporary problem, but it is not. The same problem occurs no matter which Hyper-V cluster
node the operations are performed on. I would like to add, that I tested the creation of a vhd on an already configured LUN and the creation was completed successfully, and within a n expected time frame.
NOTE: When LUN 15 errors out, it's status shows "Failed" in the Failover Cluster Manager. This in turn, causes the re-scanning of available disks to take forever (in Computer Management) and it keeps searching. Pretty
much, the fail of one LUN affects the entire functionality of the entire Hyper-V Cluster.
Errors Listed In Event Details For LUN 15:
1. Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume9' ('Cluster Disk 5') is no longer accessible from this cluster node because of error 'ERROR_TIMEOUT(1460)'. Please troubleshoot this node's connectivity to the storage device and
network connectivity.

2. Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume9' ('Cluster Disk 5') is no longer available on this node because of 'STATUS_IO_TIMEOUT(c00000b5)'. All I/O will temporarily be queued until a path to the volume is reestablished.

3.Cluster resource 'Cluster Disk 5' of type 'Physical Disk' in clustered role '4530acc9-8552-4696-b6c3-636ff8d58c46' failed.
Based on the failure policies for the resource and role, the cluster service may try to bring the resource online on this node or move the group to another node of the cluster and then restart it. Check the resource and group state using Failover
Cluster Manager or the Get-ClusterResource Windows PowerShell cmdlet.

4.
Cluster resource 'Cluster Disk 5' (resource type 'Physical Disk', DLL 'clusres.dll') did not respond to a request in a timely fashion. Cluster health detection will attempt to automatically recover by terminating the Resource Hosting Subsystem (RHS)
process running this resource. This may affect other resources hosted in the same RHS process. The resources will then be restarted.
The suspect resource 'Cluster Disk 5' will be marked to run in an isolated RHS process to avoid impacting multiple resources in the event that this resource failure occurs again. Please ensure services, applications, or underlying infrastructure
(such as storage or networking) associated with the suspect resource is functioning properly.

• How do i get new LUN's created on the unmanaged fibre SAN to be recognised?

i created 1 and it didnt recognise it until i rebooted the vmserver - do i have to do this everytime i modify the FC SAN (the iSCSI SAN was much more dynamic)
i have tried partprobe from dom0 and it didnt help
surely i dont have to reboot?
Thanks

surely i dont have to reboot?Unfortunately, rebooting is the simplest option. You can also check if rescan-scsi-bus.sh (part of the installed sg3_utils) package works for you. It sends an HBA rescan command to all connected HBAs and should trigger the discovery of new LUNs. However, some HBAs like this, others don't.

I just received word from Sun saying that this is only a problem in the simulator. I am updating the software as we speak.
I will return after the system have been updated with more info.

Also, not that you shouldn't get to the bottom of this, but you should be aware that any of your development or mapping changes are likely still being saved to the respository.
In other words, you could continue working and just ignore these errors. We ran into this situation (it was indeed simply file permissions on the owb directories), but we noticed right away that at least our actual OWB work was in fact still being committed to the respository every time.

• How to get rid of "ORA-22881: dangling REF" error on :new.OBJECT_VALUE?

Hi,
I'm having trouble with a "ORA-22881: dangling REF" error against :new.OBJECT_VALUE when a trigger executes.
Here is the initial trigger:
create or replace TRIGGER "CSHEET_UPDATE"
BEFORE UPDATE ON "CSHEET" FOR EACH ROW
BEGIN
SELECT
updateXML(
:new.OBJECT_VALUE,
'/Csheet/METADATA/MODIFIED_DATE/text()', to_char(SYSDATE, 'YYYY-MM-DD') || 'T' || to_char(SYSDATE, 'HH:MI:SS')
INTO :new.OBJECT_VALUE FROM dual;
END;
And this is the error I get with even a simple UPDATE:
BEGIN
UPDATE CSHEET SET OBJECT_VALUE = OBJECT_VALUE WHERE rownum = 1;
COMMIT;
END;
Error report:
ORA-22881: dangling REF
ORA-06512: at "LNC.CSHEET_UPDATE", line 5
ORA-04088: error during execution of trigger 'LNC.CSHEET_UPDATE'
ORA-06512: at line 2
22881. 00000 - "dangling REF"
*Cause: The object corresponding to the REF that was accessed does not
exist.
*Action: Ensure that the REF value is pointing to an existing object.
However, if I add a schemavalidate() call at the beginning of the trigger then the error disappears.
New trigger:
create or replace TRIGGER "CSHEET_UPDATE"
BEFORE UPDATE ON "CSHEET" FOR EACH ROW
BEGIN
:new.OBJECT_VALUE.schemavalidate();
SELECT
updateXML(
:new.OBJECT_VALUE,
'/Csheet/METADATA/MODIFIED_DATE/text()', to_char(SYSDATE, 'YYYY-MM-DD') || 'T' || to_char(SYSDATE, 'HH:MI:SS')
INTO :new.OBJECT_VALUE FROM dual;
END;
Is there another way, besides using ":new.OBJECT_VALUE.schemavalidate();", to correct the :new.OBJECT_VALUE dangling REF issue?
Thanks
Keith

Hi Marco,
This is my version info:
Oracle Database 11g Release 11.1.0.6.0 - Production
PL/SQL Release 11.1.0.6.0 - Production
CORE 11.1.0.6.0 Production
TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 11.1.0.6.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 11.1.0.6.0 - Production
CSHEET is indeed object relational storage.
BEGIN
DBMS_XMLSCHEMA.REGISTERSCHEMA(
schemaurl => 'CSheet.xsd',
schemadoc => sys.UriFactory.getUri('/public/Schemas/CSheet.xsd'),
local => TRUE,
gentypes => TRUE,
genbean => FALSE,
gentables => TRUE,
force => FALSE,
owner => 'LNC',
enablehierarchy => DBMS_XMLSCHEMA.ENABLE_HIERARCHY_NONE
END;
The only "unusual" aspect of it is that it does some out-of-line storage, has a primary key assigned internally, and specifies a couple of unique restrictions:
Snippets from the schema:
<xs:element name="Csheet" xdb:defaultTable="CSHEET" xdb:columnProps="CONSTRAINT CSHEET_pkey PRIMARY KEY (XMLDATA.UCN)">
<xs:element name="LEGISLATION" maxOccurs="unbounded" xdb:SQLInline="false" xdb:defaultTable="CSHEET_LEGISLATION">
<xs:complexType>
<xs:sequence>
<xs:choice>
<xs:sequence>
<xs:element name="NAME" type="reasonable_data_T"/>
<xs:element name="CITATION" minOccurs="0" type="CITATION_T"/>
</xs:sequence>
<xs:element name="CITATION" type="CITATION_T"/>
</xs:choice>
<xs:element name="REFERENCES">
<xs:complexType>
<xs:sequence>
<xs:element name="REFERENCE" maxOccurs="unbounded" xdb:SQLInline="false" xdb:defaultTable="CSHEET_REFERENCES">
<xs:complexType>
<xs:sequence>
<xs:unique name="unique_pinpoints">
<xs:selector xpath="REFERENCE"/>
<xs:field xpath="PINPOINT"/>
</xs:unique>
<xs:unique name="unique_legislation">
<xs:selector xpath="LEGISLATION"/>
<xs:field xpath="CITATION"/>
</xs:unique>
And I rename and scope the REF tables:
DECLARE
gen_name VARCHAR2 (4000);
BEGIN
SELECT TABLE_NAME INTO gen_name FROM USER_NESTED_TABLES
WHERE PARENT_TABLE_NAME = 'CSHEET';
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'RENAME "' || gen_name || '"TO CSHEET_LEG_V';
SELECT TABLE_NAME INTO gen_name FROM USER_NESTED_TABLES
WHERE PARENT_TABLE_NAME = 'CSHEET_LEGISLATION';
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'RENAME "' || gen_name || '"TO CSHEET_REF_V';
END;
ALTER TABLE CSHEET_LEG_V ADD SCOPE FOR (COLUMN_VALUE) IS CSHEET_LEGISLATION;
ALTER TABLE CSHEET_REF_V ADD SCOPE FOR (COLUMN_VALUE) IS CSHEET_REFERENCES;
Nothing really non-standard and everything works just fine...except I HAVE to schemavalidate() to undangle my REF :( .
I don't even understand where the REF is coming from since it was my understanding that OBJECT_VALUE was considered an XMLType. Could it have something to do with the out-of-line tables?
Thanks
Keith

• Can't use new LUN from IBM SAN on Sol10 box w/ MPxIO.

I've got a T2000 running Solaris 10 06/06 hooked up to an IBM DS4300 via a dual-port Emulex L10000 HBA. Overall, it works fine... we've got a number of LUNs mounted, and MPxIO detects and "mpxio-izes" the device nodes. However, we've tried to add a new LUN, LUN 12, and Solaris simply won't detect it.
cfgadm sees the LUN:

c3::200500a0b817c7b1,31 disk connected configured unknownI've cut out LUNs 1 through 10 for brevity, but there are no holes in the sequence. Each LUN can be seen a total of four times... once for each controller on each port on the HBA. All except LUN 12, which only shows up twice, both associated with one controller. Also the disk is marked "unusable" while the working ones are "unknown". I don't know how cfgadm makes this determination. LUN 31 is actually some odd 16mb virtual device within the SAN that looks like a disk, but isn't usable.
We've scheduled a reboot -r for tomorrow morning, just because it's the least-effort and quickest maybe-fix, but it doesn't seem like it should be necessary. The machine is slightly behind on its patches (I just got the okay to put a patch run on the train...) but isn't ancient. I wish I had mpathadm, but this release doesn't have it and upgrading to the newest Solaris isn't feasible at the moment.
Any suggestions for non-reboot things to try?
The format command will not create device nodes for LUN 12, nor will devfsadm do anything.
Anyone have any suggestions where to start? There's nothing obviously different about LUN 12 compared to the rest in the SAN management interface.

We eventually discovered the problem: The LUN was mapped to the host, not the host group.
Why that matters is still under investigation... it should have worked fine. There are a number of other LUNs mapped to the host, and those work fine. We discovered this problem when we discovered some other LUNs that were in the host group as well, and ceased working when moved to the host. None of the LUNs are visibly different from the rest in configuration... something odd is going on, but Solaris itself isn't to blame.

• SCSI errors in a Sun/Storagetek environment

Hallo everyone,
i experienced SCSI error messages in the /var/adm/messages file.
The system is composed by a Sun server V240 connected to a StorageTek L700 library through two SCSI cables.
Apparently in a random way i receive some SCSI errors that make it impossible to complete I/O operation on a tape media (IBM LTO2).
Here is a sample of the message detail:
Apr 11 15:12:01 azmvipa scsi: [ID 107833 kern.warning] WARNING: /pci@8,600000/pci@1/scsi@4/st@0,0 (st0):

scsi: [ID 107833 kern.warning] WARNING: /pci@1c,600000/scsi@2 (glm0):
can you please update me, is there any patches required or which hardware has the exact problem............

This does not appear to be an actual storage issue.
It's likely to be a GLM patch issue.
If that is the only device that produces such error messages,
it could be an issue with a single individual disk drive.
As per Spectrum Infodoc 21216
http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/Example/documents/21216.html
the device path of /pci@1c,600000/scsi@2 for "glm0" is your boot drive.
Bring the system down, remove the disk, and reseat it back into place.
Log into Sunsolve and see if there are any
firmware patches for that brand/model of disk.
Patch updates for the GLM driver are usually a part of the kernel update.
Patch your system with the full Recommended Patch Cluster,
which brings the entire V240's OS up to current capabilities.

• Can't figure out why I'm getting this error on New-ADUser

The command is:
New-ADUser –SamAccountName “TestProvider” -UserPrincipalName "[email protected]” -GivenName “Test” -Surname “Provider” -DisplayName “Test Provider” -Name "Test Provider" -Enabled $true -path “ou=CompanyName,ou=Users,ou=Providers,DN=intranet,DN=CompanyName,DN=com” -AccountPassword (ConvertTo-SecureString "TEST123test" -AsPlainText -force) -PasswordNeverExpires $True
The error is:

I think it has something to do with the way I'm specifying the "path" but i'm not sure.
The user should be created in an OU: CompanyName > Users > Providers
The domain is intranet.companyname.com

Hi,
Instead of ou=CompanyName,ou=Users,ou=Providers,DN=intranet,DN=CompanyName,DN=com, try ou=CompanyName,ou=Users,ou=Providers,DC=intranet,DC=CompanyName,DC=com.

• ERROR: The new SAP tools in /usr/sap/DEV/EHPI/abap/exe cannot connect

Hi All.
I am attempting to upgrade my ECC 6.0 EPH3 system to EPH4.(System 'i' V6R1M1) I am hitting an error on phase PREP_INIT/CHECKPROF_INI which states 'ERROR: The new SAP tools in /usr/sap/DEV/EHPI/abap/exe cannot connect to your database.' The log file /usr/sap/DEV/EHPI/abap/log/DBCONNCHK.LOG contains more details about the failure.
At this point I see the processes has created to additional kernel libraries: SAPDEV70UP and SAPDEV70U2
I am logged on as DEVOFR per the documentation. DEVOFR is the owner of all objects in /usr/sap/DEV/EPHI.
Here is the error from DBCONNCHK.LOG :

My DBSL is at the latest version for my environment.
Has anyone seen this?
Thanks in adnvance.

• Error installing new 4630 e all in one to windows xp workstation with usb

error installing new 4630 e all in one to windows xp workstation with usb
cannot install this hardware error occured during this installation of the device the specified module could not be found
local printer trying to connect with usb. just purchased the printers.
Tried:
loading hp dectect to detect printer, can not detect it
loaded diagnostic says nothing is wrong
loaded drivers form hp website
if i go into device manager the comptuers does see the printer there, with a ! next to it saying drivers are not loaded, but cant get the drivers to load.
as the instructions say in the book received with the printer. to troubleshoot do this... which I did, uninstalled rebooted, removed cd and unplug usb, loaded software then pluged in usb and still get same error, cannot install this hardware error occured during this installation of the device the specified module could not be found..
someone help please

I also just bought a 4630 and have the same problem (Windows XP) BUT after finally figuring out how to enter numbers on the key pad I was able to get the device to recognize and accept my wireless connection HOWEVER when attempting to print the software claims it could not communicate with the printer BUT the printer worked just fine and I was able to get at least 8 pages of high quality text.
So, it looks as though HP is SNAFU, the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing.
I'll keep playing with the software to see if I can clean up this mess.
