SCSI to USB on Mac OS8.5?

I have a PowerPC with OS 8.5. I've been using ZIP disks to store audio files from an external hard drive on the PowerPC. I carry the ZIP disks over to a MacMini, and use a newer ZIP drive to upload audio to my client. I bought a SCSI adaptor cable, another adaptor and double female USB connector so as to try to load the audio files directly from the external hard drive on the PowerPC to the flash drive, not using the ZIP disk route (ZIPs are corrupt or the drive is old and tired, so not a dependable medium for transfer any more) but I don't see the flash drive on the desktop.
Is there any way to have my PowerPC recognize the USB drive when I have it connected to the output of the external hard drive connected to the PowerPC?

That's never going to work — the protocols are too different. It would help if you post back with the model Power Mac that you have, so the availability of PCI slots or onboard USB ports is confirmed. If you have PCI slots, you can install a USB PCI card and then run the USB Adapter Card Support 1.4.1 download. This would enable you to use the same "USB-only" Zip drive on the Power Mac and the Mac mini. This assumes that the problems that you're having with Zip disk transfers are related to the older SCSI-based Zip drive. If the problem is with the Zip disks themselves or that you just want a more direct method of transfer, attempting to use flash drives with the USB Support 1.4.1 files could present a problem. The older USB Adapter Card Support downloads (1.3.5 & 1.4.1) are dated, in terms of their database of supported USB peripherals - like flash drives. Even when running OS 8.6 on some older Power Macs that I had, I found that I needed to update the USB Support driver files with those contained in the OS 9.1 Update, in order for my 1 GB flash drive to be recognized. The OS remained the same - OS 8.6, but the OS 9.1 USB Support files (v. 1.4.6) were fully-compatible with it. I'm not sure if these drivers are compatible with OS 8.5/8.5.1 - I never tested them, but I have my doubts that they'd be recognized. The OS 8.6 download is an update for systems running OS 8.5 or 8.5.1. Keep in mind that any pre-OS X version of the Mac OS will only support USB 1.1 speeds (max 12 Mbps, compared to USB 2.0's potential for data transfers at up to 480 Mbps), regardless of whether you install a USB 2.0 PCI card. Again, post back with the model Power Mac that you have, so the recommendations made here can be helpful and accurate.

i have an old LaCie 4GB external hard drive i'd like to get some files from, however, i need to find a solution to getting the 25-pin SCSI port adapted to either USB or FireWire so that i can use my G5 to extract the files.

There is no download for 10.4.x or 10.5.x, there is a very slim chance you can get 10.5 by calling Apple, but usually you can only get it on eBay & such.

I rebooted the Mac Mini holding the Option key down but it doesn't work. I used an USB drive with O.s 10.7 from Apple that I have used previuosly with other computers and I also tried with a CD install O.S 10.6
It seems that the Mac Mini can't recognize the keyboard inputs and I tried with 3 different keyboards but still didn't work.
I also reset the SMC and PRAM but I had no luck. Any clues?

You are discussing just what I am dealing with about a friend. Just an early answer, is that there are SCSI-USB adaptors, costing about US$70,- to US$130,- here in USA. Have yet to find if this AGFA is supported in OSX. Can work with OS9 (Classic), will have to check if what software can be downloaded.
You are thinking of doing what I am working on my friend to get away from. Moving everything off his 10 year OS9, past his 5 year OSX to his 2.5 year OSX! Your avenue a possible but, but possibly not worth it.

Restoring the Adobe application via Time machine is not a good practise and may cause other issues as well.

Can't Mount External SCSI to USB Drive

Hi guys- I currently have a problem involving an external scsi to usb drive that I can't mount. I tried the usual commands, fdisk -l, mount, lsblk, to discover the device but it's not showing up in /dev.

I'm using the latest kernel. The device is a macally Hi-Speed USB 2.0 external drive enclosure. Yesterday my BIOS was detecting it, and later that night I actually mounted the device with mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/drive_2, I fired up the computer today and it's not there anymore, not in BIOS, not in the OS. This thing is acting very buggy and It's starting to scream hardware issues. There is a blue light on the enclusure that tells you when everything is okay, but now the light is red. Plus I can't hear the drive spinning.
arobson- I tried your suggestion and ran udevil monitor and a message popped up "Monitoring activity from the disks daemon. Press Ctrl+C to cancel." Then I plugged in the drive but I'm not sure what's supposed ot happen. I didn't get any messages after that.

A stills digital camera with a USB port is always Mac-compatible? If this is not the case, how can I be sure of said compatibility?

Hi, Ulises. The Powershot SD600 is listed as an OS X-compatible device in this list; a brief note in this article explaining what that means says:
"...when you plug in your digital camera to the USB port, Mac OS X senses the connection. The preinstalled Image Capture driver tells the Mac you plugged in a camera, and then launches iPhoto to import your pictures."
So you should be able to import pictures directly into iPhoto via the SD600's USB cable. In the worst case — if you find that to be untrue, and you can't figure out a remedy — a $10 card reader will solve the problem. Even if there is no problem importing directly from the camera, a card reader may be desirable, since it would let you perform the import process without running down the camera's battery to power the transfer.

No PowerMac G4 with G4 built-in by Apple has built-in SCSI access. (a few people have some upgrade CPUs whose firmware may still support 9 booting,
inside the PowerMac G3 beige).
PowerMac G3 beige was the newest G3 with built-in SCSI access. It supports up to Mac OS 9.2.2 and Mac OS X 10.2.8.
PowerMac G4 MDD 1.25 Ghz with no Firewire 800, but with built-in Firewire 400 supports Mac OS 9.2.2 booting, and can take either Firewire SCSI from now defunct OrangeMicro and Ratoc, PCI SCSI from ATO that support in some cases up to Mac OS X 10.4.11, or USB SCSI adapters. Its maximum OS is Mac OS X 10.5.8, though under 10.5 and above, can't use Classic, but can still boot 9.2.2. It does require a 9.2 installer disc that came prebundled with it to install 9.2.
Powerbook G4 pre-2003 1 Ghz models with rear mounted USB and Firewire ports are very similar to the PowerMac G4 MDD 1.25 Ghz in their support, except you'd be looking at PCMCIA cards to try to accomplish what the PCI cards could do.
Powerbook G3 Bronze a.k.a. Lombard are the last with built-in 29 and 30 pin (for SCSI Disk Mode you need the 30 pin adapter) SCSI. These could boot up to 10.3.9 if their CPU wasn't misdesigned (a few were), and they came also with built-in USB, unlike the PowerMac G3 Beige.

Sharing XP PC with C4280 connected to USB on Mac

I've just had recent issue with printing on XP Laptops to C4280 connected to IMAC USB Port. This has never been an issue before. What occurs is I can add the printer C4200 Series and it's appropriate drivers to either laptop but printer does not print it just goes into que. I've checked all obvious settings and reinstalled drivers on all computers. I've added and deleted printers dozens of times. I'm using a Linkys router to my cable modem. One re ocurring message is Access denied, unable to connect. I have no firewall set up.
Any help is appreciated

I am using USB-6009 under mac OS 10.6.8 and python.
I am trying to run the following commmand:
analogOutputTask = nidaqmx.AnalogOutputTask(name='MyAOTask')
I get the following message

Honestly, I am not too sure about this, but were you able to acquire data before or is this your first trial?
From the usb-6009 product page, it says the following.
For Mac OS X and Linux users, download the NI-DAQmx Base driver software and program the USB-6009 with NI LabVIEW or C.
