SCSM 2012 R2 Workflow Database Move Prerequisites

We would like to move our existing SCSM 2012 R2 workflow database to a brand new Windows 2012 R2 server with a new SQL database server. Do you have recommendations on prerequisites for setting this up? The new database server has not been installed
yet and the server itself will be created shortly. SQL and databases are not my area of expertise.
One of our resources will export the databases from the current cluster and we will import them over to the new database server.
For the server, we are thinking of having the following:
- One drive dedicated for OS,
- One drive dedicated for SQL program, instance, and tasks, and
- One drive for database backups and transaction logs.
Please provide us with some advise and let me know. Thanks.

Take a look here: http://codebeaver.blogspot.se/2014/12/service-manager-performance.html under the SQL paragraph.
on a side note, it's really good if you can split the DB, log and tempdb on different disk. And the tempdb and log should be on really fast disks.

  • SCSM 2012 R2 workflows and connectors are not triggered

    Hi All,
Suddenly in my SCSM 2012 R2 Production environment , the connectors stopped synchronising at the schedule time and the Service request was in New state for very long time (stuck in New state).
When I started troubleshooting , I saw the workflow status in SCSM console , oops!! no entries
In operations manager event log , no logs generated regarding the connector issue or the SR workflow issue .
Then I tried starting the AD connector manually , two event logs (information-LFX service) generated
    SyncBegin:Connector Id
    SyncEnd:Connector Id
    Then I stopped the services
    Microsoft Monitoring Agent
    System Center Data Access Service
    System Center Management Configuration
deleted the health service state folder content and restarted the services
Then issue is solved , the connector started syncg and the service request state changed from New to In progress and all the workflows were triggered.
Since there is no events logged for this issue , this gonna make a huge impact in SCSM environment since workflows are the key feature in SCSM .
Is this  a known issue in SCSM 2012 R2 and are there is any fix in the update rollups
Are there is any reason behind why we need to flush the SCSM health service state and how this affect the functioning of SCSM?
since we have the SCOM agent installed as part of SCSM installation and scom uses the same Health service state folder to monitor the SCSM server ??
sorry for too many questions , just to clarify my all doubts
Is there any permanent solution ?
    Thanks,
    Kalai

    Hi,
This issue seems like a performance issue. It is recommended that you schedule the AD/SCCM connectors to run when console/system usage is low since it can have an impact on performance.  You can use the following instructions to reschedule the AD connectors.

  • SCSM 2012 R2 Workflows and DW Jobs Do Not Come Up After SQL Node Switch

    Hello,
We have a MS SQL Server cluster consisting of 2 nodes in our environment. After nightly OS updates and consequent server restart of one of SQL Cluster nodes (where an update takes place) SCSM workflows stop working, in certain cases Data Warehouse jobs also
stop until I restart SCSM server and start DW jobs manualy.
According to logs SQL server switches a node succesfully, but still it is impossible to connect to the SQL Server for 1-3 minutes. Is this a normal behavior? Is there any best practice for handling SQL connection issues and patch management on SQL cluster
    nodes?
    Thanks!

Restart the system center data access service on the workflow server (the SCSM management group server you installed) any time the SQL server migrates. the workflow service runs every 30 seconds, looking for work to do, and if it fails a few times, then
it stops looking. restarting the service is the only way that i'm aware of to fix it.

  • SCSM 2012 - Problems running script in custom workflow

    Hi all,
I'm trying to create a custom workflow in the Authoring Tool that will send an email when a ticket in certain queues is unassigned, but I only want this to run during business hours. I've created the PowerShell script, and it runs great on its own.
However, whenever I try to add any kind of scripting event to a custom workflow, the workflow fails:
Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Common.InconsistentDataException: The requested objects had an unknown management pack. ---> Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Common.InconsistentDataException: The call produced inconsistent results. The data on the client
does not match the data returned from the server. The most likely cause is that client-side cache is out of sync with server data. ---> Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Common.ObjectNotFoundException: An object of class ManagementPack with ID %GUID% was not
    found...
If I create and import a management pack with an empty workflow, the workflow succeeds. If I use the "Add AD DS User to Group", the workflow succeeds. But as soon as I add a scripting event, the workflow fails.
For testing, I added a PowerShell event with this code:
    $a=1
I also added a Command Script event with this code and got the same error as above: ping SomeServer
I even tried a VBScript, but that caused the workflow to not run at all:
    dim someVariable
    someVariable = "some value"
I then disabled the VBScript activity and the workflow runs successfully.
I'm running SCSM 2012 SP1 with UR4. I am copying the .dll file into the SCSM installation directory (which is not in the default location). The GUID referenced in the error code is the GUID for my custom MP.
This is my first time creating a custom workflow in the Authoring Tool. Can you tell me what I'm missing? Please let me know if you need any more information
    Thanks!
    Marnie

Thanks, Anders. I had seen that issue in my searches on this problem. I had tried both the manual fix suggested in that post as well as upgrading to UR4 (so I'm on on SP1 UR4). Neither approach made any difference.
Am I supposed to do anything with the .cs, .xoml, and .xomlx files that also get generated? I noticed that if I move ALL the associated files into the install directory (not just the .dll file), then import the MP, I get a different error. Instead of the
MP being missing, the error is now:
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
       at Microsoft.ServiceManager.WorkflowAuthoring.ActivityLibrary.WindowsPowerShellScript.Activity_Closed(Object sender, ActivityExecutionStatusChangedEventArgs e)
       at System.Workflow.ComponentModel.ActivityExecutorDelegateInfo`1.ActivityExecutorDelegateOperation.Run(IWorkflowCoreRuntime workflowCoreRuntime)
       at System.Workflow.Runtime.Scheduler.Run()
This makes it seem like I do need to move ALL the files to the install directory, but maybe now the workflow just doesn't like my code?
    Thanks!

  • Incident Assigned - Workflow - SCSM 2012

    Hi,
I have recently implemented SCSM 2012 at our organisation and am implementing workflows for notifications.
I have created an "Incident Assigned to Analyst" workflow that will send a notification to the user and Analyst in question but am receiving a notification every single time the incident is updated with anything.
The logical fix would be to specificy the event criteria as follows:
    Changed from
Incident, assigned to user is empty
    Chanted to
Incident, assigned to user is not empty
... but the changed from class doesn't allow me to select the "assigned to user" property group.
... ... and on top of this, this also obviously won't trigger when an incident has changed hands.
I'm clearly going about this the complete wrong way - could you kindly advise if there is another way I direction I should be headed to achieve this goal?
    Any advice is much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Data Migration Service Manager 2010 and 2012 database to SCSM 2012 R2

I have search the web far and wide for a good answer to this question.  We are consolidating two separate instances of Service Manager (one is 2010 and the other is 2012).  We will being moving to a new Service Manager 2012 R2 instance.  We
don't want to upgrade the older versions SCSM (i.e. 2010 and 2012) of the software installation do to various reasons.
We want to export all open ticket from Service Manager 2010 and 2012, and import then into the new SCSM 2012 R2 database.  The best advice I can find is:
Export the data into a CSV file and import into SCSM 2012 R2 DB through a connector. I think there maybe too many data dependencies to do that efficiently.
I didn't find this, and I am hoping not to use this option which would be upgrade the two instances of SCSM 2010 and 2012 apps and DBs to 2012 R2, then some how transfer the data to the new SCSM 2012 R2 instance.
I am not sure any of these idea would even work, but I don't want to ask a question without trying to workout some possibilities.
    Thanks,
    Jay...

    Hi,
You may simply duplicate your SCSM 2010 environment and upgrade it to SCSM 2012

  • SCSM 2012 Side-by-Side upgrade

I am currently running Service Manager 2010 SP1 on two Windows Server 2008 R2 VMs (their databases running on a separate SQL 2008 R2 server), with SSRS being hosted on yet another SQL 2008 R2 server (4 servers in total make up the entire SCSM environment).
I would like to upgrade the entire environment from the ground up. Meaning:
Upgrade Service Manager itself to 2012 SP1
    Upgrade Windows to 2012
Move databases to SQL 2012 (already have new SQL server in place)
Move reporting to SQL 2012 (already have new SSRS server in place)
    Change server names
I really don't like doing in-place Windows upgrades, so considering all of the things I want to do, it seems like it would be much easier to build an entirely new environment, on Windows Server 2012 and SQL 2012, with new server names, and simply migrate
the data from the old Data Warehouse to the new Data Warehouse. Does such documentation exist?
If I can't do a side-by-side upgrade like that, then it seems like I would need to take this one piece at a time. There is of course the
TechNet article about how to perform the 2012 upgrade itself. I also found a TechNet blog on how to move the
    Service Manager and
DW databases to the new SQL server. I have not found anything that tells me how to move the reporting database (maybe I just need to point SCSM to the new SSRS server and redeploy the SCSM reports? Can anyone tell me how to do that?). And I have
also not found anything on changing the Service Manager computer names (we changed our naming convention for all System Center servers).
Can anyone tell me the proper way to approach this upgrade? It seems like I should do the Service Manager 2012 upgrade first, at least. But then what? What steps should I take and in what order?

So this is a VERY old notice, so you'll probably want to post a new one for yourself.
that being said, this upgrade plan should not be a problem, provided you keep the various parts in supported mode. This is the order of operations i would use:
Stand up a new SQL and patch to the final version you want
Install a new Service Manager environment to the new SQL instance, then uninstall and drop the service manager database. This is only to populate the master database with error text (see link in next step for details)
    Follow the steps at http://blogs.technet.com/b/servicemanager/archive/2012/04/22/moving-the-service-manager-and-dw-databases.aspx
to backup your database and restore it to the new SQL server, then reconfigure nodes to point to the new database.
Register a new DW with the new environment (if you are still inside the grooming window), or move your existing data warehouse using http://blogs.technet.com/b/servicemanager/archive/2012/06/28/moving-the-scsm-data-warehouse-dw-databases.aspx and http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms156421.aspx
Perform an inplace upgrade of the management group, using http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh495600.aspx
Install new "clean" management group servers using the version you want
Uninstall your old upgraded management group servers, and remove their Service Connection points. don't forget to move your workflow server to a new server (see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh524221.aspx)
The one thing to be aware of is that an in-place upgrade (step 5) will either work or it wont, and there isn't a lot you can do to fix it if it doesn't. test this carefully in a lab environment, then find and correct the root cause of any errors or issues
    before before proceeding to production.

  • SCSM 2012 - service requests auto complete even with activities in them

I introduced SCSM 2012 on Monday at out company. I have a number of service requests templates that the service desk use.
I have seen a major fault. Occasionally when a request is raised from the template the goes straight to complete and therefore the manual activities are stuck in pending and i have to kill the activities using a powershell script. Below is a screen shot
    showing an example.
THis was raised from a template the service desk use frequently. The template is ok because we have used it several times. In the example below service desk raised the template - as ever when you raise a request the system moves it from 'new' to 'In Progress'
    - which is fine you should expect this - but then it automatically moves it from 'In Progress to 'Complete' - this is without the activity being completed. The activity is then stuck in pending. No one is marking the request as complete, the system is doing
it - but why??????? there are no workflows set up at all for Service Requests

    Hi CCOTS-KN
You can actually quite easily test this.
Create an SR from a template that has 3 Manual Activities.  Once created it will progress through the 'Submitted' status to the 'In Progress' status.  The first Manual Activity should also be 'In Progress'.  Now complete the first Manual Activity,
then wait for the second Manual Activity to go to the 'In Progress' status.  Now, put the SR 'On Hold'.  Wait for a couple of minutes - until the 2nd and 3rd Manual Activities are paused.  Now resume the SR.  What should happen is that
the Manual Activity resume workflow should trigger before other workflows, resulting in the SR and the Manual Activities remaining 'In Progress'.  If the issue is not fixed, the completion workflow will trigger first resulting in a completed SR with paused
    activities.

    Cheers

  • SCSM 2012 - Self Service Portal installation Error

    Hi Everyone,
I am trying to update SCSM 2010 with 2012. So far I have successfully installed Database Server and Warehouse server, and now I am trying to install the self service portal but it is giving me an error saying "Setup has failed because of an unexpected
error. Please review C:\..\SCSMSertupWizard01.log for more details.
Here are some extra information in relation to this upgrade.
I have got 3 separate servers for my SCSM 2010 application. One act as a warehouse database server. second server holds the Service Manger Database and the third one has got Self-service portal on it.
Now as I said earlier, I did not face any issue upgrading the first two servers (warehouse and Database) but the last one is proving very difficult to just even start with.
Here is some interesting thing that is happening while I am trying to install my self service portal.
When I run the SCSM 2012 setup on my web portal server (Server 3) I get a setup screen with following option
and as I said earlier when I click this Upgrade option it starts the "requirements check" and fails just there with an error message.
Now here is the interesting thing, when I run the SCSM 2012 setup on my server 2 ( which has now got Database Server 2012 installed in it) gives me following option screen.
So when I select this option it starts to install Web content server and Sharepoint site server on my Database server. I do not want that. I want to have my web content server on Server 3 which already has  SSP 2010 on it. I have also installed Sharepoint
    2010 on my third server.
    What is the solution here?
Do I have to merge my Database and Web content server? is it some sort of untold requirement of SCSM 2012 upgrade?
    Please help me here.
    Svapnil

    Hi there,
    thanks for the reply..
here is the screenshots of the log files.

  • Reinstalling SCSM 2012 SP1 -- installation fails on Finalize step "while executing a custom action:RollbackCleanup" -- absolutely stumped!

I uninstalled a previous installation of SCSM 2012 in our lab environment because the person who installed it is didn't give anyone else permissions and they weren't available to make the change.  Since then, I've tried to install SCSM 2012 multiple
times and it fails every time during the Finalize step with the error shown in the picture below.
Things I've tried and double checked:
I am running the install with a domain admin account
I'm specifying a domain user service account during install which is local administrator on the machine
    I rebuilt the performance counters
    I'm running SQL 2k8 R2 SP2
    .Net 3.5.1 is installed
I see the following message in the System Event Log during setup:
Event 7036 - The System Center Data Access Service service entered the running state.
Event 7031 - The System Center Data Access Service service terminated unexpectedly.
It has done this 1 time(s).  The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.
It appears as though this happens 18 times before the service is no longer restarted and is left terminated.
Any thoughts or help on how to get this to work would be greatly appreciated!  Log excerpts are below as well as a link to the full log file at the end.

    - After this command was successfully applied I have tried to install the Service Manager Portal without any errors.

  • Trying to Perform an install of SCSM 2012 SP1 - SQL Analysis Services Not Installed

I'm performing a clean install of System Center Service Manager 2012 on a Windows 2012 server.   The prerequisite checker told me the Analysis Objects were not installed.   I clicked the link and downloaded the SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis
Management Objects.   I restarted the install and it still says it's not installed.  I also tried installing the 2012 version of the objects and still no luck.
I also tried installing both the x86 and x64 versions of these tools.
I have also tried the same install on a Windows 2008 R2 server and had the same error.  I'm convinced this is a bug in the setup.
Has anyone else seen this?  Is it a known issue?

Try to check the log file SCSMSetupWizardxy.log under C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp
perhaps it could not load Microsoft.AnalysisServices.dll assembly.

can you confirm if that assembly exists in the Assembly folder.
on a side note: SCSM 2012 SP1 supports 2008 R2 SP1 or above, and double check that the account you are using to install the SM is a local admin.

    Hi All,
Though we use SCSM 2012, the FIM 2010 Reporting (R2 SP1) installation throws the alert to run
KB2561430 hotfix (when run throght console) and above error (when run through commnad line). This is actually a bug and MS have fixed that in one of its FIM hotfix rollup. I could move out of the above error by applying the FIM hotfix mentioned
    in the below link.
