SCUP 2011 for SCCM 2007 - SUP, WSUS plus MS PKI certificates (not self-signed ones)

I am installing System Center Updates Publisher 2011 for our SCCM 2007 R2 system.
Our SCCM 2007 R2 system runs in mixed mode. We have a dedicated server for SUP/WSUS and OSD/PXE functions.
Shall I install SCUP 2011 on the dedicated server? I have installed it on my Windows 7 computer. What is the best practice configuration? SCUP should be equivalent WSUS role for Microsoft Partners software updates. Am I right? In this case, I should install
SCUP on the SUP/WSUS server in my opinion.
We have used the SUP/WSUS to apply Microsoft updates without any problems so far.
When I am investigating the certificate requirement for SCUP 2011 code signing, I have found out that our SUP/WSUS server has some self-signed certificates for SMS and WSUS.
All our SCCM 2007 servers except one have self-signed SMS Encryption Certificate and
SMS Signing Certificate - those certificates are issued to
SMS by SMS. The SUP/WSUS server also has an extra self-signed certificate
WSUS Publishers Self-signed for code signing.
We do have our own Microsoft Active Directory Certificate Services internal PKI service which has been trusted by our AD domain. Therefore, I would like to use an certificate from the PKI service for SCUP 2011 server such that all our SCCM 2007 clients will
trust the certificate for non Microsoft software updates.
What should I do re the self-signed SMS or WSUS certificates on the SUP/WSUS server?
I just want to add SCUP to our SCCM 2007 system without causing problems to Microsoft updates deployment via SUP/WSUS.
Thanks,
SJJ123

Personally I have used the self signed certificate and used the AD Group policy to distribute the certificate. I think it would be possible to import a certificate from your PKI into SCUP. Have you tried this?

  • SCCM 2007 and WSUS 6

Is it possible to use a Server 2012 instance with WSUS 6 as a SUP for SCCM 2007?

    Only WSUS 3.0
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680712.aspx
Software updates in Configuration Manager 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) requires WSUS 3.0 SP1 or WSUS 3.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2). WSUS 3.0 SP2 is required to support Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 software update management for
the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 operating systems.

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.04 SCUP update causing SCCM 2007 SP2 R3 client to crash

When we started deploying the 11.0.0.4 update for Adobe Reader provided for System Center Updates Publisher (SCUP), we started having failures with our Operating System Deployments. When the 11.0.0.4 update installs during the Install Software Updates (via WSUS) step, it stops the SCCM client, causing the SCCM client to crash and uninstall. When the SCCM client uninstalls, it breaks the OSD process and the image process fails. Our current .wim file has Adobe Reader 11.x patched to the 11.0.0.3 level. We are using SCUP 2011. Everything was working ok until this update came out. We even tried creating an SCCM software distribution package to deploy the update and it still crashes the SCCM client when installed that way. Has anyone seen similar issues in their SCCM environments? Does Adobe have a support number available to get help with these types of issues? Thanks.

Try using the Adobe doc:  1   Introduction — Enterprise Administration Guide
Also, you'll find installing and updating via bootstrapper is easier than AIP over the long haul.

  • Search or Report on the CVE ID using SCUP 2011 and SCCM 2012.

I am in the process of deploying SCCM 2012 on a single server since we have a small environment, as a Primary Site Server.  The SQL databases are located on a separate SQL 2008 cluster.  I also have SCUP 2011 installed on the SCCM 2012 server.
I am starting to use SCUP as the facilitator to publish 3rd party patches into SCCM and I would like to be able to report on the CVE number that an update has.  I know that not all updates have a CVE and that microsoft updates usually publish this in
    the MSID article.
My question is if there is anyway to report on this CVE code from within System Center Configuration Manager?  If the data is in the xml file in SCUP and I can read it there, does that information get discarded when published to SCCM or does it remain
with the update but hidden in the SQL DB?  If it is hidden, I'm sure we can report on it but I would like to know if anyone else is pursuing this or had any other ideas for reporting on the CVE or searching for the CVE in SCCM 2012?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?
To my knowledge nothing was added to R2 that would give you the CVE. I think this can be done as a custom solution but it would take a while to do the R&D and write the solution.

  • Are new versions of SP for SQL supported for SCCM 2007 while in extended support

With SCCM 2007 R3 in extended support, are new service pack versions for SQL, such as 2008 SP3, tested and supported?  We see TechNet is not updated with this version.  We have tested in lab works great, but wanted to verify supportability
    before upgrading production.

Configuration Manager 2007 supports Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP3.
System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2, R2 and R3 now supports Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP3 as a Configuration Manager 2007 site database.

  • FEP Exemptions for SCCM 2007 Server

I configured a policy for my SCCM 2007 site server and used the SCCM Server Template. It came populated with the %programfiles%\Microsoft Configuration Manager\Inboxes\*.box. I found today that my SCCM server was backing up processing hardware inventory
and I looked at the %programfiles%\Microsoft Configuration Manager\Inboxes\Auth\dataldr.box and found over 6000 there. I added that path to my exclusions in the policy but it did not speed up .mif processing. Only when I turned of real time protection did
the backlog clear up. Is there a process that I might exclude that might be getting blocked? Should I post this in the SCCM forum?Orange County District Attorney

This is old post and there have been several changes in SCCM, and Forefront, specially successor for Forefront is System Center Endpoint Protection which integrated into SCCM. You could define filtering for both process and files and it should work, but
you might wait or enforce policy update on clients.
If possible try reproduce the problem in SCEP and check if it reproduce or not?

  • Database instance for SCCM 2012 and WSUS on a single primary site server

I am going to install SCCM 2012 and its SQL database on a single physical server. This is going to be a single primary site server. The default SQL instance will be dedicated to SCCM 2012 with no other named instances to be added on the SQL server down
    the road.
During the WSUS server role installation, there is the Database Options page asking for using (1) Windows Internal Database, (2) existing db server on this computer, or (3) an external db server.
Since SCCM 2012 doesn't share db instance with others, how should I handle the WSUS db that's going to be hosted on the same SCCM/SQL physical server? Do I really need to create a separate SQL instance just for the WSUS db?
    Thanks and regards.

Even though you can do it, it is the best practice to have SCCM 2012 and WSUS installed on separate instances.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh692394
When the Configuration Manager and WSUS databases use the same SQL Server and share the same instance of SQL Server, you cannot easily determine the resource usage between the two applications. When you use a different SQL Server instance
for Configuration Manager and WSUS, it is easier to troubleshoot and diagnose resource usage issues that might occur for each application.

  • Right Click tools for SCCM 2007 issue

We have SCCM 2007 R2 with Right click tools installed (I know this is not a direct SCCM query but linked to it and thought I might try my luck here)

The Addcoll.hta looks like the following

Has anyone had this issue and if so how have you resolved it?

You need to contact the author of the tool and get them to help out. This is not a CM07 issue.
However having said that it look like you are having a problem with the font.

  • Deploying Internet Exlorer 8 using software distribution- for SCCM 2007 SP2

    Hi,
I am trying to deploy Internet Explorer 8 in one of the clients having Internet Explorer 7.
But when i checked the execmgr.log, i found that the installation ended up with the following error.
"Program ran past its maximum runtime. It will be orphaned"
I even tried on other machine, but got the same error.
    Pls. help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
It most likley means that the installation either is waiting for input or showing a dialog and waiting for input, therefor it runs past it's Maximum allow runtime value. I would start by allowing "users to interact" so you can see any error message. Could
    be that IE is running?

  • I changed the captions for my family photos to include names, but when I exported the photos to make DVD's for family members, the old captions were there and not the new ones. How can I make a DVD to include the new captions with names?

I have labeled old family photos with names that I would like to share at a family reunion via DVD. When I export the photos to make the DVD, the old photo labels are back rather than the new labels with names. Can I export the photos with the new titles?

iPhoto shows you these Titles but the Finder shows you Filenames
If you export (File -> Export) you'll get the Export dialogue. Note the option at FileName to use the Title as filename for the exported photo

  • Re-use network share for SUP downloads between SCCM 2007 and 2012?

We currently have network folders created to download software updates for SCCM 2007. Now that we are bringing up SCCM 2012, can I point SUP downloads to those same folders so I don't need to duplicate file space for both SCCM environments?  Is
the structure the same so either SCCM can pull from them to their respective DPs?
    Thanks!
    Russell

No, you can't directly use the same folders and files for the package source locations. You can specify the 2007 folder as a source to download content from though when downloading updates.
Are you really that concerned about 20-50GB though? If so why? You should be using cheap storage for this.

  • SCCM / SUP / WSUS

Looking for some clarification on SCCM 2012 and WSUS integration.  I was not the person that set this site up and am coming in trying to get everything cleaned up.  The setup is a single Windows Server 2008 R2 with SCCM 2012, SUP, and WSUS
3.0.  The server has a direct connection to the internet.
When I login to SCCM and check the "Software Update Point Component Properties" the option to synchronize from Microsoft update is checked.  All of the PCs on the domain seem to be updating OK.
When I login to the WSUS console it shows over 4000 updates awaiting approval.
To me it seems like SCCM is bypassing WSUS entire and just downloading the windows updates directly from MS and pushing them out to the domain.  WSUS does not appear to actually be doing anything at this point.
My question - is the WSUS role even required at this point with SCCM directly updating from MS?
Secondary question - If the WSUS role is required for the updates still, does it harm anything to not have SCCM and WSUS synced?

First question; Yes, WSUS is required. ConfigMgr uses the metadata of WSUS. Also, the clients will still be scanning against WSUS, but based on the deployments send out by ConfigMgr.
Second question: Once configured ConfigMgr will automatically sync WSUS. You can see that on things like the configured products and categories. One thing you won't see are updates approved in WSUS.
Also, when you are using ConfigMgr for deploying updates, you should stop touching the WSUS console.

  • SCUP 2011 CreateDirectory failed

    Hi
I've been trying to set up SCUP 2011 on Server 2012 (WSUS 4) and am running into an error when trying to publish full content.  I have installed SCUP directly on the WSUS server.
WSUS is located on the E drive (E:\WSUS).  Thought this may be worth mentioning as it is a non-standard location.
I have tried both the local & remote connection types.
I don't get this error when only publishing metadata.
I don't think it is a certificate issue as I have tried using one created from our CA and also a self-signed one (and have copied them to the Trusted Publisher & Trusted Root CA folders).
I have checked the permissions (security and share) on the WSUSContent and UpdateServicesPackages folders and they seem to be correct.
I have tried Adobe and HP updates, which end with the same result.
I have gone through the 'Requirements to publish updates to WSUS on Windows Server 2012' steps in this article:
    http:// technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh134747.aspx#PublishToServer2012
I have tried the movecontent suggestion in this post; however it said the data was already in the location specified:

I have uninstalled SCUP, rebooted, deleted / renamed leftover folders, reinstalled, rebooted.

Thanks Lawrence, the NTFS permissions you specified differ slightly from what I'd seen previously.
I added CREATOR OWNER - Full, and Users - Special, but unfortunately am still faced with the same issue.
Unfortunately I am unable to insert images into posts at the moment so I cannot show you :(
The owner is set to SYSTEM by the way.
I forgot to mention before but I am a member of a domain WSUS Admins group, which is a member of the local WSUS Administrators group. I am also a member of the Local Administrators group via Domain Admins membership.
