SCUP 2011 On Server 2012 WSUS

I've been having some issues publishing updates to WSUS from SCUP 2011 on server 2012 (I guess this is WSUS 4.0 or whatever comes on server 2012). Is SCUP 2011 not compatible with this version of WSUS?
2012-09-25 13:15:19.262 UTC Error Scup2011.4 Publisher.PublishPackage PublishPackage(): Operation Failed with Error: Timeout expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

This is now supported:

  • Cannot enter 3rd-party certificate into SCUP 2011 on Server 2012

    Hello all,
I am trying to deploy SCUP 2011 on Server 2012 with a SCCM 2012R2 primary site w/WSUS onboard.
Client is using a 3rd-party Digisign cert from a CA that is trusted through the enterprise. This cert has been imported into the private store and exported as a .pfx to be loaded into SCUP 2011. The Digisign cert is in the TrustedPublishers and Trusted Root
    stores.
Administrator registry hack applied for Server 2012
Options of SCUP 2011: Successfully connect to SCCM local site server and local WSUS server. However, when I browse and select the exported .pfx, I am not prompted for a password for the cert, and no certificate information is displayed. Also, there are no
entries in the Trusted Publishers tab.
I am stumped at this point. Any suggestions? SCUP just isn't looking at the cert (which was ordered according to the requirements in the SCUP blog.
    Thanks,
    -P

    A couple of questions...
    1. How, and where exactly, did you import the PFX to the WSUS Server (SUP)? Most notably.. the fully-signed cert needs to be in a cert store named *WSUS*, which has been notably difficult to create except when using the WSUS API to create it.
    2. You don't need to export the PFX for SCUP, only the CER (provided that the PFX is properly held on the WSUS server); but even so, if you already have the original cert from Digisign, why bother exporting from the store to import... you already *had* the
full cert that could be imported to SCUP?
    3. If you're not prompted for the password of the PFX, that suggests that it wasn't exported with a password, or, since no cert information is available, maybe the export failed completely?

  • SCUP 2011 not detecting local WSUS

    Hi,
I have the following ConfigMgr setup.
Standalone Primary Site with remote MP(DB Replica) and a remote SUP and DP. other roles are in primary server itself.
I installed SCUP 2011 in the remote Windows 2012 WSUS(SUP) server. when I configure SCUP, I try to configure the "Update Server" node by enabling publishing to an update server and selecting "connect to a local update server". But
the "Test Connection" is unsuccessful. If I select remote update server option and input the primary site server in there, then the Test connections succeeds. Is this how should I configure or the local update server option must work?

    Hi
When configuring SCUP, select connect to a remote WSUS (cannot remember the exact wording) and type in the fqdn of your WSUS server followed by :8530. i.e WSUS01.domain.com:8530
Because WSUS running on Windows Server 2012/R2 is using port 8530 (HTTP) or 8531 (HTTPS) and if you choose local it will default to port 80, so in order to choose another port you need to do it like I explained above.

  • Search or Report on the CVE ID using SCUP 2011 and SCCM 2012.

I am in the process of deploying SCCM 2012 on a single server since we have a small environment, as a Primary Site Server.  The SQL databases are located on a separate SQL 2008 cluster.  I also have SCUP 2011 installed on the SCCM 2012 server.
I am starting to use SCUP as the facilitator to publish 3rd party patches into SCCM and I would like to be able to report on the CVE number that an update has.  I know that not all updates have a CVE and that microsoft updates usually publish this in
    the MSID article.
My question is if there is anyway to report on this CVE code from within System Center Configuration Manager?  If the data is in the xml file in SCUP and I can read it there, does that information get discarded when published to SCCM or does it remain
with the update but hidden in the SQL DB?  If it is hidden, I'm sure we can report on it but I would like to know if anyone else is pursuing this or had any other ideas for reporting on the CVE or searching for the CVE in SCCM 2012?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?
To my knowledge nothing was added to R2 that would give you the CVE. I think this can be done as a custom solution but it would take a while to do the R&D and write the solution.

  • ...that no computers are registered to receive updates (Server 2012) WSUS issue

    Hi
    Server 2012 64-bit WSUS install
I have trolled as many forum posts as possible but they seem to relate to older versions of Windows OS.
I have clicked the "To set up a client computer" and followed all the steps to create a GPO etc.
However the computers on the domain still look to the internet for their updates and not the WSUS server despite the policy in place.
WSUS is sync and I have 1987 security updates waiting, 626 critical updates waiting etc.
I have approved 562 updates and declined 1338 so far.
I have created 8 separate computer groups.
What can I do to get my domain computers looking to the WSUS server to receive their updates?
    Many thanks
    Leo

    I would suggest starting with
Update and Configure the Automatic Updates Client Computer in the WSUS Deployment Guide, and the
Step-by-Step Guide to Understanding the Group Policy Feature Set.
The links provided point to solutions for much older OS. I am running a Windows 2012 Server environment with Windows 8 OS on client PC's. All the data provided on the link is for Server 2000/2003 and Windows XP. Must I assume that nothing has changed in terms
of registry values and methods of solution?
Very little has changed, the principles are the same, the Admin UI has evolved/modernised somewhat.
Windows8 does have a slightly changed auto-updating behaviour (relating to the post-install-restart behaviour) , but this is able to be modified with a GP setting.
The main settings for a client, continue to be controlled by the same registry settings (keys/values), and this can be configured by GP, and the resultant settings can be observed in the registry.
The applied settings, are consumed by the WUAgent and output to the windowsupdate.log, so it's easy to confirm if your GP settings are being applied correctly as expected.

  • Server 2012 WSUS Offline Install

Is there a new version of "Update Services 3.0 API Samples and Tools" that works with Server 2012R2. I have read that
Update Services 3.0 API Samples and Tools does not work with Server 2012R2. WSUS 3.2 uses
    WsusMigrationExport.exe from
"Update Services 3.0 API Samples and Tools" to
export the .xml file from a server that is connected to the internet. The current 2008R2 server that is offline from the internet uses WsusMigtrationImport.exe to import the .xml
file. I need to know how to accomplish this using WSUS on 2012R2 server.

Is there a new version of "Update Services 3.0 API Samples and Tools" that works with Server 2012R2.
No, and likely there will not be, as most of that functionality now exists within the capability of PowerShell.
WSUS 3.2 uses WsusMigrationExport.exe from "Update Services 3.0 API Samples and Tools" to export the .xml file from a server that is connected to the internet.
Actually, that is not the correct tool to use for the stated purpose. As posted elsewhere today in another thread on this same issue, the correct procedure to use is documented in the WSUS Deployment Guide:
Configure a Disconnected Network to Receive Updates and that procedure does NOT use any functionality from the API Samples kit.

  • SCUP 2011 CreateDirectory failed

    Hi
I've been trying to set up SCUP 2011 on Server 2012 (WSUS 4) and am running into an error when trying to publish full content.  I have installed SCUP directly on the WSUS server.
WSUS is located on the E drive (E:\WSUS).  Thought this may be worth mentioning as it is a non-standard location.
I have tried both the local & remote connection types.
I don't get this error when only publishing metadata.
I don't think it is a certificate issue as I have tried using one created from our CA and also a self-signed one (and have copied them to the Trusted Publisher & Trusted Root CA folders).
I have checked the permissions (security and share) on the WSUSContent and UpdateServicesPackages folders and they seem to be correct.
I have tried Adobe and HP updates, which end with the same result.
I have gone through the 'Requirements to publish updates to WSUS on Windows Server 2012' steps in this article:
    http:// technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh134747.aspx#PublishToServer2012
I have tried the movecontent suggestion in this post; however it said the data was already in the location specified:
    https:// social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/4a8f5aad-50f5-46ca-88e9-30ca2d5c368b/scup-2011-failing-to-publish-updates-createdirectory-failed-error?forum=configmgrsum
I have uninstalled SCUP, rebooted, deleted / renamed leftover folders, reinstalled, rebooted.

Thanks Lawrence, the NTFS permissions you specified differ slightly from what I'd seen previously.
I added CREATOR OWNER - Full, and Users - Special, but unfortunately am still faced with the same issue.
Unfortunately I am unable to insert images into posts at the moment so I cannot show you :(
The owner is set to SYSTEM by the way.
I forgot to mention before but I am a member of a domain WSUS Admins group, which is a member of the local WSUS Administrators group. I am also a member of the Local Administrators group via Domain Admins membership.

  • Cannot publish Flash Updates Verification of file signature failed for file SCUP 2011, SCCM 2012 R2 and WSUS all on same Windows Server 2012 machine

I am attempting to distribute Adobe Flash updates using SCUP 2011, SCCM 2012 R2, WSUS ver4 and Windows Server 2012.  Everything installs without error.  I have acquired a certificate for SCUP signing from the internal Enterprise CA.  I have
verified the signing certificate has a 1024 bit key.  I have imported the certificate into the server's Trusted Publishers and Trusted Root CA stores for the computer.  When I attempt to publish a Flash update with Full content I receive the following
    error:
2015-02-13 23:00:48.724 UTC Error Scup2011.21 Publisher.PublishPackage PublishPackage(): Operation Failed with Error: Verification of file signature failed for file:
    \\SCCM\UpdateServicesPackages\a2aa8ca4-3b96-4ad2-a508-67a6acbd78a4\3f82680a-9028-4048-ba53-85a4b4acfa12_1.cab
I have redone the certificates three times with no luck.  I can import metadata, but any attempt to download content results in the verification error.
    TIA

    Hi Joyce,
This is embarrassing, I used that very post as my guide when deploying my certificate templates, but failed to change the bit length to 2048.  Thank you for being my second set of eyes.
I changed my certificate key bit length to 2048, deleted the old cert from all certificate stores, acquired the a new signing cert, verified the key length was 2048, exported the new cert to pfx and cer files, imported into my Trusted publishers
and Trusted Root Authorities stores, reconfigured SCUP to use the new pfx file, rebooted the server and attempted to re-publish the updates with the following results:
2015-02-16 13:35:44.006 UTC Error Scup2011.4 Publisher.PublishPackage PublishPackage(): Operation Failed with Error: Verification of file signature failed for file:
    \\SCCM\UpdateServicesPackages\a2aa8ca4-3b96-4ad2-a508-67a6acbd78a4\3f82680a-9028-4048-ba53-85a4b4acfa12_1.cab.
Is there a chance this content was already created and signed with the old cert, so installing the new cert has no effect?  In ConfigMgr software updates I see 4 Flash updates, all marked Metadata Only (because they were originally published as "Automatic."
No Flash updates in the ConfigMgr console are marked as downloaded.  I can't find any documentation on how the process of using SCUP for downloading content for an update marked Metadata Only actually works.
    Comments and suggestions welcome.

Any idea or recommended work around?

Publishing operation failed because the console and remote server versions do not match.
The issue is exactly what the message says. When doing local publishing (i.e. when using SCUP), the version of the console (used by SCUP) must match the exact version of WSUS being published to.
To wit, the following are valid publishing scenarios. Anything not listed here will not work:
WSUS v6.3 (on Windows Server 2012 R2) with SCUP running on WS2012R2 or Windows 8.1
    WSUS v6.3 + KB2938066 (on WS2012R2) with SCUP + KB2938066 running on WS2012R2 or Win8.1
    WSUS v6.3 + KB2819484 (on WS2012R2) with SCUP + KB2819494 running on WS2012R2 or Win8.1
WSUS v6.2 (on Windows Server 2012) with SCUP running on WS2012 or Windows 8
    WSUS v6.2 + KB2938066 (on WS2012) with SCUP + KB2938066 running on WS2012 or Windows 8
    WSUS v6.2 + KB2818494 (on WS2012) with SCUP + KB2818494 running on WS2012 or Windows 8
WSUS v3.2 + KB2938066 (on Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, or Windows Server 2003) with SCUP + KB2938066 running on anything WS2008R2 or earlier
    WSUS v3.2 + KB2828185 (on WS2008R2, WS2008, WS2003) with SCUP + KB2828185 running on anything WS2008R2 or earlier
    WSUS v3.2 + KB2734608 (on WS2008R2, WS2008, WS2003) with SCUP + KB2734608 running on anything WS2008R2 or earlier

  • Publishing SCUP 2011 updates to WSUS/SCCM are failing

Hi, i'm using SCUP 2011 to publish some Dell driver updates to my ConfigMgr server. However, after creating a self signed certificate based on the installation instructions publishing updates keeps failing. I'm testing it all on 1 VM with all roles installed
locally: SCCM, WSUS and SCUP. Importing catalogs and assigning them is not an issue. Just when i want to publish a group of assigned updates i keep getting the error stating that publishing has failed. I tried creating a new self signed certificate, tried
to import it in Trusted Publishers and Trusted Root Certification Authorities. Tried using the WSUS self signed certificate to be used in SCUP. However no succes. Below is a snippet of the SCUP logfile. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks in advance!

  • SCUP 2011 for SCCM 2007 - SUP, WSUS plus MS PKI certificates (not self-signed ones)

I am installing System Center Updates Publisher 2011 for our SCCM 2007 R2 system.
Our SCCM 2007 R2 system runs in mixed mode. We have a dedicated server for SUP/WSUS and OSD/PXE functions.
Shall I install SCUP 2011 on the dedicated server? I have installed it on my Windows 7 computer. What is the best practice configuration? SCUP should be equivalent WSUS role for Microsoft Partners software updates. Am I right? In this case, I should install
SCUP on the SUP/WSUS server in my opinion.
We have used the SUP/WSUS to apply Microsoft updates without any problems so far.
When I am investigating the certificate requirement for SCUP 2011 code signing, I have found out that our SUP/WSUS server has some self-signed certificates for SMS and WSUS.
All our SCCM 2007 servers except one have self-signed SMS Encryption Certificate and
SMS Signing Certificate - those certificates are issued to
SMS by SMS. The SUP/WSUS server also has an extra self-signed certificate
WSUS Publishers Self-signed for code signing.
We do have our own Microsoft Active Directory Certificate Services internal PKI service which has been trusted by our AD domain. Therefore, I would like to use an certificate from the PKI service for SCUP 2011 server such that all our SCCM 2007 clients will
trust the certificate for non Microsoft software updates.
What should I do re the self-signed SMS or WSUS certificates on the SUP/WSUS server?
I just want to add SCUP to our SCCM 2007 system without causing problems to Microsoft updates deployment via SUP/WSUS.
    Thanks,
    SJJ123

Personally I have used the self signed certificate and used the AD Group policy to distribute the certificate. I think it would be possible to import a certificate from your PKI into SCUP. Have you tried this?

  • WSUS Role Failing on Windows Server 2012

    Hi Team,
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider:
SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid)
When we enablling the role on WIndows server 2012, I got the error like
Instance Name Properly doest not exist
    Paramater name : ConfigurationStore
But SQL server is working fine

When we enablling the role on WIndows server 2012, I got the error like
is this question related to WSUS + SUP + CM 2012 ? If so, some help from
    here?

  • Unable to install WSUS Updates KB720211 x64 and KB2734608-x64 on windows server 2012 r2 standard

    Hi,
Am testing SCCM 2012 R2 in virtual environment. To handle Windows 8 clients, need to install KB2734608 update, which is failing.
Not able to install WSUS Updates KB720211 x64 too. The server is on Windows Server Standard 2012 R2 x64.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi,
Agree with Michael. KB2734608 is applied to the WSUS 3.0 SP2. If we install the WSUS on Windows Server 2012 or later, the version of the WSUS becomes to v6.
    Best Regards.

  • Server 2012 R2 cannot update from 2008 R2 WSUS server

Our WSUS server is on a 2008 R2 VM.  Updates for all 2008 R2 and lower servers, and Windows 7 clients work fine.  I have one Server 2012 R2 in production and it cannot check for updates.  It gets 800b0001 as the error code.  I can
click on check for updates from Microsoft, then it does reach out to the Internet, download and install updates.
I also tried from my Win 8.1 laptop and I get error 8024402C.  Any idea's?

I found in another thread the fix.
In regedit go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Update Services\Server\Setup and change "wYukonInstalled"
    from a 1 to a 0.
    Installer succeeds.
However now the Update Services console does not work.  I get a connection error.
It's one thing after another with these things.  I don't understand why Microsoft can't ever make something simple.  IISReset did not cure this either.
The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server via the remote API.
Verify that the Update Services service, IIS and SQL are running on the server. If the problem persists, try restarting IIS, SQL, and the Update Services Service.
The WSUS administration console has encountered an unexpected error. This may be a transient error; try restarting the administration console. If this error persists,
Try removing the persisted preferences for the console by deleting the wsus file under %appdata%\Microsoft\MMC\.

  • Server 2012 R2 + WSUS = not updating

    Hi all,
We've (finally!) started to deploy Server 2012 R2 machines, and one of the things I'm having problems with is WSUS. I've patched WSUS (which is running on 2008R2) so that it's aware of Windows 8/2012R2 machines, and servers are querying/reporting against
the server correctly, and pick up their updates fine.
The problem comes from trying to install them. I've updated the GPO templates so that in it includes the 2012R2 options that force an immediate reboot, rather than having to wait for a 'maintenance window'. I've also disabled the maintenance windows using
    psexec + schtasks.
I can see, via the registry, that the 2012R2 machine is picking up the correct settings from the GPO, so that's not the problem. I think I've got everything set correctly, according to the all the articles/KBs I've read, but yet, the server doesn't reboot
    when it should do.
I left the machine set to reboot at 1000 this morning, when I got back from the Easter break (thinking that, maybe, for some odd reason, it just needed some time for WSUS to sync, or whatever), but even after 6 days of being on and idle, it didn't do anything.
My GPO is as follows (relevant entries):
Configure Automatic Updates: 4, install during automatic maintenance is unticked (time and date altered for testing).
I had been testing each hour, but I've since left it over the long Easter weekend, set to install just after we reopen, and it's not done anything.
Always automatically restart at the scheduled time: enabled - wait 15 minutes.
Delay Restart for scheduled installations: enabled - 1 minute.
    Any advice very gratefully received!
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Hi Michael,
Yes, the output from gpresult -r was one of the first things I checked. I've confirmed the settings are being applied from the GPO by checking the registry too.
You say a snippet from one of the machines that rebooted: none of the 2012 test machines have reboot themselves yet. They've just picked up updates, but not rebooted. In the windowsupdate.log file, the only entries are checking for updates. Keeping in mind
it's set to reboot at 1000, the update log reads as follows (sorry for verbosity!)
