SCVMM 2012 - Doesn't show Server 2012 R2 Editions

Hello,
I have SCVMM 2012 with the latest service pack and agent versions installed. I have Server 2012 R2 Standard edition VMs running but I'm unable to select the correct operating system from the General tab under the VM properties. The most current operating
system to choose from is 64-bit edition of Windows Server 2012 Standard. How do I make 2012 R2 Standard an option from the drop down list? Thanks
Pat
Pat

upgrade to SCVMM 2012 R2 - that adds full support for the 2012 R2 operating system.
Otherwise you never add additional OS support.

  • Migrate FROM Server 2012 R2 Essentials TO Server 2012 R2 Standard

We have a new server with 2012 R2 Essentials. Failed to realize Essentials need for Domain Controller role and Deltek Vision Software running on new server does not run on Domain Controller.  We are prepared to upgrade to Server 2012 R2 Standard,
and have read the "Transition.." article in the Tech Net Library, but it does not go into much detail.  Need to know what else is involved and does the transition remove the FSMO requirement?   Does the transition wipe out all
programs and SQL Server installations? I have found articles on migrating from standard to essentials, but not the other way around.

    Hi,
When you talk about the "Transition" means Transition from Windows Server 2012 Essentials to Windows Server 2012 Standard?
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj247582.aspx
If you talk about the migration, i think you could do the migration process.

  • Up gradation from server 2012 r2 foundation to server 2012 datacenter

I am trying to upgrade Windows 2012 Foundation to Windows Server 2012 Datacenter. As foundation allows only 15 user and i want unlimited users. I have not been able to find any instructions for accomplishing this.  Any pointers to this
    info will be helpful.
    Thanks,

    Hi Zeeshan,
As I know, upgrade of Windows Server 2012 Foundation is not supported. For more detials, please refer to the following article.
Introduction to Windows Server 2012 Foundation
If didn't want to be limited to a total of 15 users in Active Directory, you should consider other Windows Server edition (not Windows Server 2012 Foundation).
    Hope this helps.

    hello again,
meanwhile I was lucky to find this article about Idenity Mapping in TechNet in the Storage Team Blog:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2012/10/09/nfs-identity-mapping-in-windows-server-2012.aspx
Likely to be overseen at the end of one paragraph it says:
"Client for NFS does not support NFS V4.1 in Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012"
Question : Is this an official statement and is it still valid with most recent
Windows Server 2012 R2 that NFS client does NOT support NFSv4.x  ??

  • I installed CS6 and now Lightroom doesn't show CS5 as an Edit option

I installed CS6 and now Lightroom doesn't show CS5 as an Edit option. CS5 is still installed on my computer. How can I add it to Lightroom Edit options?
    Mac 10.6.8

You can add CS5 as an "Additional External Editor" on the External Editing Tab of the Preferences panel. See this screenshot, I have Photoshop CS5 as my prime editor, and have added CS3 as an additional external editor:
Then when you use "Edit In...." you'll see both options available..

  • Software Update Point doesn't show Win 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1 updates

I started deploying Windows 2012 R2 Datacenter servers and some Windows 8.1 workstations. I wanted to make sure that my Software Update Point was downloading updates available to those OS's and after going in to Administration -> Overview -> Site Configuration
-> Sites -> Configure Site Components -> Software Update Point, I notice that those OS's weren't available to select.
I then did some searches on the web and thought my problem was two fold:
    1 - I was using SCCM 2012 SP1.
2 - My SCCM 2012 Software Update Point was on a Win 2008 R2 server
So the first thing I did was upgrade from SCCM 2012 SP1 to SCCM 2012 R2. I then created a Windows 2012 R2 Datacenter server and installed WSUS on it. I then added the server as a Site System Server, added the Software Update Point to it and configured it.
Unfortunately, this still didn't help me as you can see from the screen shots below:
What am I doing wrong and what needs to be done to have all the updated Operating Systems and Microsoft Software added to my Product list?
    Thanks... Frank

To follow on to narcoticoo's statement, have you actually initiated a catalog sync from within the ConfigMgr console yet? If so, has it completed successfully (you can check the moniotring workspace or you can watch the wsyncmgr.log).

    Jason...
I just ran a Synchronize Software Updates from ConfigMgr Console. I then went Monitoring -> Software Update Point Sync Status. It's showing my new WSUS server ( 2012 R2 ) but it's not showing any updates are being sync'd through it. See this screen shot:
I then went to the wsyncmgr.log file on my site server which is the OLD WSUS server ( Win 2008 R2 ) and say this:

It appears to me that when doing a Sync, it's still trying to use my OLD WSUS server instead of my new one. I removed the Software Update Point from the OLD WSUS server and uninstalled WSUS from it. I'm not sure why it's still trying to sync from the old
server rather than the new one. Any ideas?

  • Running Server 2012 R2 Guest on Server 2012 Hyper-v

    Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone's been able to find any information on whether or not this is supported. We want to run some R2 virtual machines but aren't ready to upgrade hosts from 2012 to 2012 R2. I know that back in the 2008 R2 days, a hotfix was released
to support 2012 guests. I'm wondering if there are any plans for this or if one is even required.
I was able to install a R2 VM (I told wizard it was running 2012), but that's not quite the same as it being supported.
I'm also wondering if anyone's come across any good documentation or info upgrading SCVMM + Server 2012 with hyper-v cluster to the R2 versions. The info on TechNet seems pretty sparse at the moment.
    Thanks

    Hi,
The Server 2012 as the guest system in 2012 Hyper-v was supported with no additional hotfix.
For the Hyper-V cluster upgrade please attention the following hotfix:

  • Can DPM 2012 R2 backup SQL Server 2012 AlwaysOn enabled databases

Is it possible to use DPM 2012 R2 for backing up
SQL Server 2012 AlwaysOn enabled databases ?
Because if Alwayson configured for any Database , particular database is not available to select for backup.

    Hi,
Yes, starting with DPM 2012 SP1 SQL AlwaysOn enabled databases can be protected as long as they are not part of sharepoint farm. DPM shows the Availability Groups under Cluster Group.
You must explicitly add the system account NTAuthority\System or NT AUTHORITY\DPMRA to the Sysadmin group on SQL Server.

  • Server 2012 R2 Essentials and Server 2012 Standard

This is for a small business with all of 2 employees. I setup up the domain on the Server 2012 R2 Essentials. We have since found out that one of the applications was over loading the server so he went and bought a different server. Well that server has 2012 Server Standard. I added it to the domain but when I tried to make it a domain controller, I was getting a conflict error with the domain levels. So the question is, what is the best solution to resolve this? My first thought it to just create the domain on the Server 2012 and just blow the old domain. But maybe there is a better way to do it? any ideas?

  • How can I upgrade Windows Server 2012 Essentials to Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials?

I have just installed Windows Server 2012 Essentials on my Home Network (from the installation DVD).  I have done absolutely no  configuration  Installing Server 2012 was an oversight;  I meant to install Server 2012 R2 Essentials.
I tried to correct by installing R2 from its DVD, hoping it would do an upgrade.  That didn't work.
Is there a simple way to make it possible to install the correct OS?   For example, can I just demote the existing server and remove any roles that were installed, so that the R2 disk will install over top of the existing installation?
Alternatively, is it safe to just reformat the partition and install R2?
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn408635.aspx seems to imply that this is OK.
    David Pike, P.Eng, MCITP

Hi Larry.   Thanks for the reply.  It didn't work, but I don't believe you are wrong.  Rather I think there is something weird in my system.  I'm marking your reply as answer.
Some background:  I'm repurposing an older PC (Compaq SR1614X) as a home server, to manage my home network, use as a gateway to my Azure server, and to help my Server 2012 training (on MVA).  I've been messing with it for nearly two months,
on and off.  From the start, I've had trouble installing the server 2012 software (see previous threads August-27 and August-16
), but when I got to the point that I could install Server 2012 Essentials, I thought I could upgrade to Server 2012 R2 Essentials exactly as you suggest.  That was where you helped me a lot, i.e. you confirmed that my expectations were reasonable.
So when it didn't work, I spent most of yesterday trying various different procedures.   I got tantalizingly close, but still no cigar.
I can install any Windows Client and Server 2012 Essentials, but the R2 Essentials installation never finishes; it goes into an "error 0x000000C4" boot loop.  At first I wondered if it was because I was installing a server over a
server, but you confirmed that's not the issue.  I later verified that I cannot install R2 over Windows 7 either, whereas R1 over Win7 is fine.  I can only surmise one of two problems:
I have a bad installation disk
    There is a hardware issue
I plan to eliminate (1) by creating a new disk from a new download.  I have verified that the latest ISO file and the one I have been using have identical byte counts,
For (2), I had suspected that the problem was that the older system has no UEFI, but since R1 installs OK, I am discounting that.  Today's effort:  to eliminate the DVD drive, I will try booting from a Flash Drive.  To eliminate
the hard drive, I will try installing to a different drive.
I am hoping you can help with one more thing.  When I run setup.exe with the /noreboot option, I have a better chance of success.  The option suppresses the first reboot only, but that one (after "Expanding the setup files") always
fails, so suppressing it gets me almost to the end of the install.  Is there a way to modify setup.exe so the it always runs with the /noreboot option?

  • Push Data From Sql server 2012 (Express) to Sql Server 2012 (Standard) (i.e. Client to Server)

    Hi all,
I’m new to this new idea /task/work.
My Idea: To push data to server (Sql Server 2012 Standard or Enterprise Edition).
    What I’m having? :
1.A server pc (Windows  Server 2012 + Sql Server 2012 Standard or Enterprise Edition installed).
2.Two or three Client pc in number (lets us say Windows Server 2012 + Sql Server 2012 with Express Edition installed).
3.These 3  machines (1 server + 2 client pc) are in communication with one and another(LAN).
4.Assume that, I'm having one database let us say “Company_DB” with single table “Tbl_Employee”(as of now) in server and similarly in both reaming client PC too.
    i.e.
Server is having Company_DB (Database), is having table Tbl_Employee
Client A is having Company_DB (Database) , is having table
    Tbl_Employee
Client B is having  Company_DB (Database) , is having table
    Tbl_Employee
    What I did ?:
    Step 1: Suppose that, today I entered/created  10 employee details in Client A (say 1 to 10).
Step 2: On the next day, I created some more employees (say 5 employees i.e 1 to 5)
     in Client B.
    What I need?
I need to push/send/store these records (i.e. total 15 employees details) should be present in my SERVER PC.
I googled for the same, found some suggestions like SSIS or
    Import/Export wizard etc…
How can I achieve this?, and this should happen for some regular intervals like 3/5 hours without any duplicate data.

sounds like Merge replication to me

  • VB 2012 Express and SQL server 2012 Express

My Windows 7 computer just crashed and I am trying to resurrect my VB 2012 Express code.  I have been using Access 2007 but lost my license info and installation media, so I am considering a change to SQL server 2012.  I have downloaded it, but

I know how to use a database engine, but what I downloaded as SQL server 2012 Express seems to be something else.  I am in <st1:place w:st="on">Africa</st1:place> and things don't work well here.  I
have an app that says SQL error and usage reporting, and when I answer the questions nothing happens.  This must not be the SQL 2012 Server Express (or is it?).  Maybe you can point me to a useful download link.  What I have is totally obscure.
Here is my goal:  I have a completed VB 2012 project that uses Access 2007.  My Windows 7 computer crashed and I am desperately trying to move the application to a Windows 8 machine.  I do not
have my installation disks for Access, so I thought I would give SQL server a try.  I obviously downloaded the wrong thing.  The Microsoft web site gives me the following download choices - none of these make sense and they are not explained - please
