SCVMM service causeing Windows Server 2012 R2 to hang at "Please Wait"

I have a problem with the VMM service causing my server to no longer boot. I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 server running on Hyper-V that has only SCVMM installed on it, I was getting ready to install SCCM on it after I finished migrating the machines to
a new hard drive. After I moved the VM's all of them ran fine except the server with VMM on it, I spent plenty of time on Bing and Google trying to find out why my server was stuck at Please Wait and I found nothing, not one thing. I eventually disabled the
SCVMM services in msconfig from safe mode and now it boots fine.
It cant be because I moved it because I had a previous VM that was my WSUS, Essentials, RRAS, RDGW and one i installed VMM on it and rebooted the same happened.
This did not happed when I was setting this up at my other deployment for another company

I think have fixed it, I set it as disabled as I updated VMM to Update Rollout 1 and 2 and applying the changes described in the update description. Then once complete I set the service as Automatic (Delayed Start).
If anyone else has this issue pleases share your experiences here.
Now its has returned, not this sever only has VMM 2012 R2 (with all updates) and only that no other services

  • Boot up of Windows Server 2012 Essentials seems slow (extended Please Wait screen) and there are errors in Health Report

    Dear Sir or Madam,
I have been experimenting with the evaluation version of WS2012e trying to get the installation and subsequent build into an optimal set up, and once I have everything I want it to do mapped out, I'll set it up with the full version with using the key that
    I bought.
However, I've noticed that the server seems to experience a delay during cold boot - it sits with a Please Wait screen for about 60-90 seconds before it presents the screen with an option to Log on.  I have also discovered from running Health
Report, that there are some entries in the event logs which appear to coincide with start up times, and which seem to be interconnected to each other in the issues they are describing, and I have copied an example of one of those health reports below.
I assume that everything sorts itself out in due course, because the events say the process will be re-attempted and these errors don't repeat again after the system has booted up.  I also have the server set to suspend when not in use with the Lights
Out add in, so it shouldn't need to cold boot often - but I wondered if there's a way to correct these errors so that they don't hold up the boot up process?  I'm also concerned that these errors will cause me later problems with storage pools and
the like at a later date - the disk replication one seems particularly worrying.  Alternatively, are these errors just a normal part of the start up process - the timing of when different processes start relative to each other - and can be safely ignored?
In trying to understand what the events describe, I thought that WE2012e acted as its own Domain Controller, and yet it seems from the event log entries that it is waiting for another server to respond to AD / DC requests (but there isn't another server
on my home network).  The other thing I remember from when I first tried out WS2012e, is that it took control of DHCP or DNS from the router, and I found that frustrating when waking up my laptop and it wouldn't connect to the internet until the server
had fully booted up and re-asserted its network settings.  Is this another symptom of the same problem?  I remember seeing a posting at the SBS Diva's site about how to update the server so that it gave connected PCs a backup option for connecting
to the internet when the server wasn't available, and was going to try to find that again to see if that helped.
By way of background - there isn't another server in my home network.  This is an attempt to do a clean install onto the same hardware that I ran the initial trial of WS2012e, now that the trial has expired, so I'm not trying to migrate from an existing
server.  I moved all the data on the trial server off onto an external disk, with the intention of importing it back once I had the Storage Pools set up the way I wanted on the new build, and since I didn't want to keep anything else about the server
trial.  Am I correct in thinking that I don't need to go down the Migration route during installation, and can go through a Clean install in this circumstance?
I'm running on an Asus P8-H77-i motherboard, with an i5-3470s CPU and 16MB RAM, and I have WS2012e installed on 256Mb SSD formatted under GPT with uEFI boot - the latter being the main reason for the reinstall, instead of just giving the Evaluation
version the new key on the original MBR set up.  I've also enabled Intel Rapid Storage and Rapid Start - and successfully set aside the hibernate partition on the SSD - but discovered that this is about forcing a hibernate after suspend, allowing
the system to power down until its needed again, and then resuming from hibernate on the SSD rather than cold boot each time.  That seems to work, but doesn't improve the cold boot times at all, which was what I was hoping for - ideally the way my
laptop will boot from cold in a few seconds into Windows 8.
    Yours faithfully,
    Avon

The DNS server is waiting for Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) to signal that the initial synchronization of the directory has been completed. The DNS server service cannot start until the initial synchronization is complete because critical DNS
data might not yet be replicated onto this domain controller. If events in the AD DS event log indicate that there is a problem with DNS name resolution, consider adding the IP address of another DNS server for this domain to the DNS server list in the Internet
Protocol properties of this computer. This event will be logged every two minutes until AD DS has signaled that the initial synchronization has successfully completed.

The security of this directory server can be significantly enhanced by configuring the server to reject SASL (Negotiate,
Kerberos, NTLM, or Digest) LDAP binds that do not request signing (integrity verification) and LDAP simple binds that
are performed on a cleartext (non-SSL/TLS-encrypted) connection.  Even if no clients are using such binds,
configuring the server to reject them will improve the security of this server.
Some clients may currently be relying on unsigned SASL binds or LDAP simple binds over a non-SSL/TLS connection,
and will stop working if this configuration change is made.  To assist in identifying these clients, if such binds occur this
directory server will log a summary event once every 24 hours indicating how many such binds
occurred.  You are encouraged to configure those clients to not use such binds.  Once no such events are observed
for an extended period, it is recommended that you configure the server to reject such binds.
For more details and information on how to make this configuration change to the server, please see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=87923.
You can enable additional logging to log an event each time a client makes such a bind, including
information on which client made the bind.  To do so, please raise the setting for the "LDAP Interface Events" event logging category
    to level 2 or higher.

    Hi KerguelanAvon,
Based on your description, it seems to be hard to narrow down the cause of this issue. Please refer to following operations and monitor the result. It may help us to go further, and then solve this issue.
    1. Please refer to the following article and troubleshoot slow boot.
New Slow Logon, Slow Boot Troubleshooting Content
    2. On your server 2012 essentials, please start a BPA scan and fix all that it can find, then monitor the result.
Regarding to those critical Errors in Health Report, please perform
Dcdiag on the server. Meanwhile, please refer to the following article and troubleshoot network connectivity, firewall setting and AD DS issue.
    DFSR Event 1202 (DFS Replication)
    Hope this helps.

    Hi Justin,
I'm reading through the links you referred me to but it's taking a while.  In the meantime I tried running BPA as you suggested.  I'm sure when I ran it before, it didn't say much beyond 81 checks completed, and I couldn't find a way to get any
    more detail.
    Now it says
    Problem:
The DNS client is not configured to point only to the internal IP address of the server.
    Impact:
If the DNS client is not configured to point only to the internal IP address of the server, DNS name resolution can fail.
    Resolution:
    To resolve this problem:
    1. From the client computer, open the Properties page for the network connection.
    2. Make sure that DNS is configured to point only to the internal IP address of the server.

Thanks for reading this question, I do not write much English.
I am implementing Remote Desktop Services in Windows Server 2012, I need to know the size of the database to create and feature on the .mdf and .ldf, I searched in different microsoft link but I have not received a response.
Kindly appreciate your cooperation and attention.

    Hi Alejandro,
I am implementing Remote Desktop Services in Windows Server 2012, I need to know the size of the database to create and feature on the .mdf and .ldf
If you want to know the size requirements of .mdf abd .ldf files, since they are parts of SQL database, I suggest you refer to SQL forums below to get more professional support:

  • Guideline of installing remote desktop services in window server 2012 r2

    Hi,
I tried to install remote desktop services in window server 2012, I joined my current domain ( in window server 2003).
During installation, it require me to promote my server to domain controller? This is one of the requirement for remote desktop services?
If I didnt join any domain, it prompt me I must join a domain.
Anyone can advise me? provide me a steps by steps guide will be perfect!
    Thanks

    Hi GP_IT001,
In your current network do you currently have a domain controller? You mentioned that you "had" a Domain Controller running Windows Server 2003.
Am I correct in thinking that you no longer have this server?
    As this article mentions:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/f3d0543a-edab-4eb2-8360-3658a3351bb0/licensing-issue?forum=winserverTS
You will need a domain environment which means you'll need a server that is a domain controller, and I believe that it will also need to operate Windows Server 2012 or above. You could, if you wanted, setup a new server (virtual or physical) as a domain
controller and use that if you wish.
    Best regards,

  • Not working properly Computer Browser service in Windows Server 2012

    Good afternoon.
Migrated from 2003 to 2012 Active Directory, all is good, but the service Computer Browser in Windows Server 2012 is not working properly.
Online, there are several hundred computers, one network, no segments. PDC is the Master Browser, it is in my list of all the computers, but gives customers or Backup Browser computers only part, and in alphabetical order, giving the first 70 computers and
    all.
    Looked packet sniffer:
Microsoft Windows Lanman Remote API Protocol
    Entry Count: 70
    Available Entries: 251
So on Master Browser shows 251 computer, and the client 70.
If disabled on Windows Server 2012 Service Computer Browser, Master Browser is a computer running Windows Server 2003. He gives all computers.
What is the problem, how to get Windows Server 2012 to work correctly as a Master Browser?

More info. I have high lighted in bold where the issue is. This is a massive headache for me at the moment

  • Windows deployment services in windows server 2012 : operating system not found

    Hello,
In order of learning WDS in Windows Server 2012, I created a simple test environment composed of :
A Domain controler running WS 2K12 and hosting both DHCP and WDS services. (with the option of not listening port 67 checked while installing WDS)
A test computer, with no operating system
I also added a Windows Server 2012 Standard WIM file and added also (located in [DVD]\sources\install.wim), boot file image (located in [DVD]\sources\boot.wim)
But now, when i start the client, it gives the following error:
While i don't find any reliable solution on Internet, Im looking for your help if ever, anyone faced this problem and found a solution for it or not
    Thanks in advance!
    Lotfi BOUCHERIT

I find it strange that client and server IP are the same. Is there any sort of DHCP relay agent running on your WDS server ?

  • No Option To Install SNMP Service on Windows Server 2012 Standard

    Hi,
was wondering if someone could help me with the below issue.
i am trying to install the SNMP service on our new 2012 server however the role doesn't even exist?
could someone advice on how we can install this role? i have looked everywhere but am unable to find an answer
    thanking all in advance

the snmp role is being depreciated and replaced by CIM.
but you should still be able to add it.
its a feature - from server manager select install roles and features, click through the roles till you get to the features page and select snmp from the list

  • B1DIEvent Service on Windows Server 2008 x64 - installation hanging

I'm trying to install the B1DIEvent Service on a Windows 2008 x64 Server but the installation is not completing. It does create the directories in the SAP folder but the installer hangs at roughly 95%.
It seems to not be able to register the service on the server.
Does anyone know if there would be compatability issues with Wondows 2008 Server x64? Or are there any speciffic steps that I can take to install this?
I have installed MSMQ on the server.
    Any help would be appreaciated.
    Best wishes
    Edu van Zyl

    Hi Edu,
Did you followed the instructions compiled in the other threads showing how to recompile the dll???
Just follow step by step what is described there, it should work.
DI EVENT SERVICE ON 64 SERVER
    1. Change compilation option to x64
    2. You have to replace the following 2 lines modified marked with:
    char msg[ 398 ]; // Old was mgs[378]
    sock, msg, 398, 0, (const struct sockaddr*)&sAddr, sizeof(struct
    sockaddr_in));
    3. Replace the old dll by the new one compiled
    4. Don't forget to register the dll (after compiling and copying in the right folder):
    C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64>regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP\SAP Business
One DI Event Service\SAP Business One DI Event Server\SBO_SP_TransactionNotification\B1DIEventsSender.dll"
Both Ad and Andres succeeded to do it.
    Hope it helps
    Trinidad.

  • How do I remote control a user in remote desktop services in Windows Server 2012?

    Hello,
we currently operate in a 2008 R2 environment with the majority of clients connecting to our terminal servers.  We use the remote control feature in terminal services manager to connect to a users session when a user phones our helpdesk with
    a question / issue.
Just today I've installed 2012 server on a hyper-v virtual machine to have a play with it.  I've installed the Remote Desktop Services and noticed this remote control feature is gone.  I can still log off or send a message to a user, but I can
no longer remote control their session.
I've seen one or two other posts stating this feature has been removed completely.
    So, a couple of questions:
    1. How on earth do I "shadow" or connect to a users session now?
    2. If I have to go third party to get this functionality back, what's the best software on the market for this and does it support remote connecting of users who have their RDP session span multiple monitors? (2008 R2 doesn't)
    3. Will Microsoft ever bring this feature back? as at this stage I doubt we would move to 2012.  This is the one feature that is crucial to the day-to-day running of our helpdesk.
    Cheers.

A large percentage of our IT support business is through remote management. Most of our large enterprise customers are Terminal Server environment (now called Remote Desktop - why does Microsoft have to change EVERYTHING - how would they feel if I changed
the colour of the sky from blue to red just because I could?).
Last week, after much expense to the customer (and realising that there WOULD be some cosmetic headaches to contend with Server Management) we installed a new "Remote Desktop Server" for them and shifting them from 2003 - a big leap so we discovered.
During deployment it came as a HORRIFIC surprise that we could not remote control user's sessions!
Yes, we ARE to blame for not fully realising the cock-up Microsoft has made for us. We should have fully researched every detail of what changes they made and what they have robbed us of.
Firstly, the removal of the ability to fully manage user's sessions came as a HUGE blow!
The remaining multiple issues that followed (including the hugely cumbersome and SLOW way of accessing user's sessions and the false information that the console was reporting users logged in when they had already logged out) suddenly resulted in us decommissioning
the new 2012 installation in favour of a 2008 R2 installation.
Some may ask; Why not use "Third Party" apps to counteract the issue? Firstly; why spend MORE and why use a third party app that "is as" cumbersome to use just because of a freaking feature that Microsoft deemed a "security risk" - for G.D sake!
We have now been directed by management to convince customers that a move to 2012 is NOT recommended - good choice boss, I love you!
The question is; will Microsoft re-implement this feature and fix Server Management performance/accessibility in a future release before 2008 R2 is no longer available? Probably not - it looks like their stubbornness to forge ahead with their craze mind-set
of transforming their products into something that is now annoying millions (including their bloody push towards everything-cloud which NONE of our customers want anything to do with).
Microsoft! Get us back on to your side and take a step back, take a deep breath and listen to consumers!

  • Software Protection service at Windows Server 2012

    Hello
I've faced the issue with Software Protection service. The service is not able to start from Task Scheduler. When I try to run it manually it fails to start to. I found the theoretical solution at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3033200 but it doesn't
work for me. I was mange to start the Software Protection service when I add a user NETWORK SERVICE with Full Control to the C:\Windows\System32 and I allow inheritence of subfolders and files. It would be the great news but our AD policy deletes the NETWORK
SERVICE and the issue occurs again causes for eg. issue with Windows Activation or installation of the Desktop Expirience feature. Is there any other soultion to fix it without adding the NETWORK SERVICE to the system32 directory?

    Hi,
    Thanks for your post.
What is the error when you try to start the service, access denied?
You could use ICACLS to reset permissions.

  • Windows Search Service Crashes on Windows Server 2012 R2

    Hi,
I'm running Windows Search service on a Windows Server 2012 R2 (24GB RAM, 8-core proc). The index catalog has a little over 2 million items (files and folders indexed).
Every once in a while this service crashes, and either remains in limbo or automatically recovers and restarts the index from zero. I'm trying to find out information about what may be causing the crashes and about how to prevent them. Unfortunately, I don't
seem to be able to find much about the Windows Search service on Windows Server 2012 R2. So anyone who may have input on this, please chip in.
    Additional info:
    - As mentioned above, the server OS is Windows Server 2012 R2. This is a physical server with 24GB RAM, 8-core proc and over 2TB of storage.
    - This server acts as a DC and as a File Server. In addition to this and Windows Search service, there are no other major services running here
    - Symantec Endpoing protection is installed and running on this server, but I've made sure to exclude the Window Search database from SEP
Here are some of the errors that are generated when the issue happens:
The error below may show up in the event logs. If it shows up more than once, the indexing service has likely crashed and won't recover.

I attempted to stop the indexing service, but it didn't stop. I noticed though that the indexing GUI started responding as soon as the
the service stop command failed. The indexing service seems to have picked up where it was (~300K items) and continued indexing.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your post.
To resolve this problem, use the Registry Editor to change the default timeout value for all services.

  • Windows Server 2012 Standard - Remote Desktop Management service won't start

Dear colleges, I'm seeking your help in resolving a weird issue with Remote Desktop.
The Remote Desktop Management service gives the following error message any  time it is attempted to start:
"The Remote Management Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."
The Event Viewer error message is as follows:
"The Remote Desktop Management service failed to start. Error code: 0x88250001"
Whenever I connect to the server with RD I get error message that the Remote Desktop Licensing Server isn't configured and that the RD trill will expire in N-days. The server is up to date updates wise and has been licensed for 5 RD CALs. The server hosts DNS
server and has AD DS role installed, is virtualized to have one Hyper-V server.
I read some blogs about having both DNS and AD DS on one box is a bad sea and a root cause of the issue. Well, that very well may be, but for me that's an option as I'm not going to get a box to just host DNS. There should a solution to this as I shouldn't
only one suffering from this issue.
I also read about KB2871777 - Servicing stack update supposedly addressign this issue. Well, it's on my system and the issue is there too. :)
Will I loose ability to RD when the trial expires or it's just another misleading MS message that can be ignored?
How do I mend Remote Desktop Management service to start?
    Appreciate your help!

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server forum.
Can administrators perfectly connect to RDS environment?
In meantime please check that you have properly configured and activated RD License role service and install RDS CAL on it. It might also possible that you have configured RD License server but it server can’t find it and giving you error due to certificate
also. Please check that you have properly configured certificate on your RDS Server. Try to install and update below hotfix for License related issue.
No RDS license when you connect to an RDS farm in Windows Server 2012
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2916846
If you have configured both RDS and AD DS on single server then also you may find some error reading this. If so please try to setup both roles on different server and check the result. In addition to this, please check below articles.

  • V3 Printer driver on Windows Server 2012

    Hello there.....
I have installed Print services on Windows Server 2012. I have read several forum and found that it is a best practice to install V3 drivers if workstations run on Windows 7.
Our all of workstations have windows 7 so I want to install v3 printer drivers. we have printers of HP and Canon mostly.
So can anyone tell me how can I get V3 drivers of HP Laserjet P4015 for example...
I have installed a driver but found its v4.
Please tell me how can I install V3 driver for HP, Canon printers.....
    Thanks
    Kind Regards
    Namvi

You would need to use the V3 drivers that the vendors provide to Windows Update
    http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx
    or from the vendors website

  • Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation error while installing SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise edition on Windows Server 2012 R2 standard VM server

I've been trying fresh installation of SQL Server 2008 R2 enterprise on Windows Server 2012 R2 standard VM server several times for two weeks, but always get the error "Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation". At first, I attempted
to install all features, but failed several times. So I decided to try install just Database Engine service, and still fail at the SqlBrowserConfigAction_Install_ConfigNonRC_Cpu32, with the error "Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation".
I remote login to server with my admin domain account. This account is in server local Administrators group. I
    1. Right-click on setup.exe file | properties | Compatibility tab | select compatibility to Windows 8.Then click OK.
    2. Right-click on setup.exe file | Run as Administrator, to start the Installation Center.
I have the document of my installation steps and zip file of the installation logs, if you need to take a look.
    Appreciate for any help!
    ntth

    Hi ntth,
"Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation"
The above error is always related to the Windows account SID mapping. I recommend you login into Windows using another Windows account which has administrative privileges and run SQL Server setup using that Windows account.
Besides, please note that we need to apply SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 or a later update when installing SQL Server Windows Server 2012 R2. For more information, please review this
